Loki's HE WHO REMAINS was RIGHT (The Only Way to Win Secret Wars?)

- Loki's final episode revealed that He Who Remains--a variant of Kang the Conqueror--was the real power behind the TVA. He spent millions of years eradicating entire universe, all to protect the multiverse form the events of Avengers: Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret wars. Even though "Loki" treats him as a villain, we think He Who Remains was the greatest hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

This is literally the best explanation I've heard so far concerning the multi-verse. There is no wrong or right, there's only the perspective of a person or people.
100% agreed
relativity 101 🙃
💯✔️🙌🏿👏🏿
His explanations are always good when he doesn’t weirdly fascinate over Mephisto
Really well explained indeed. Sacred timeline at a deep price
I like how they introduced kang in his peacemaker form before we meet his supreme villain form
I mean, arguably the peacemaker form is Supreme villain form from the perspective of all alternate timelines' inhabitants...
It’s not forms, it’s just different universal versions of the same person
@Big Drewop which in Peter parker's case take different physical forms....
The peacemaker form being a guy that commits multiversal genocide, kidnaps people and then brainwashes them to work for him!
The villain is gonna have a lot to live up to.
My understanding is that Kang's world in the comics was a variant where there was no Dark Age, and science was discovered hundreds of years earlier leading to humans on the Moon 500 years ago or so. But never mind.
He Who Remains in charge of the TVA knows that it's not a great solution, destroying variant divergent universes, but it's to prevent another multiverse war. We don't know the motivations of his conqueror variants, but we should find out for one or two soon.
I conside He Who Remains as a “Necessary Evil” for the greater good
I agree with you.
Free will Vs Control has always been the MCU's "dilemma". You should make a video comparing these from each film. Thanos obviously wanted to half the population, to allow the other half to thrive, Cap America wanted Avengers to be able to answer any danger, whereas Tony wanted Avengers to be put in check in Cap America 3. Hell, even films like Iron Man 2 wanted the government to control the Iron suit so they could keep everyone in check but Tony ironically didn't want this, and even in the Hulk film, thunderbolt Ross wanted Hulk under control but Banner wanted free will
Was just thinking, with Dr. Strange looking forward in time to see all the possible outcomes…maybe he saw Kang in all of them and realized the one where Tony sacrifices himself is the only outcome that Kang would ALLOW. I’m sure that there were other ways to defeat Thanos. But maybe not in a way that would still lead to Kang building on Tony’s tech and winning the multiversal war?
strange actually chose the one outcome where he doesn't die because he is needed for the future of the multiverse, if you look at his face when he's searching through outcomes you'll see he always dies until the final outcome
@@Clint2028CODE2 I saw someone say Strange was supposed to replace Tony's role in the mcu and that their time together in infinity war was a test to see the present mcu face meeting the future one. Would be interesting if Strange really is the key to the heroes winning the multiversal war.
Something like this could definitely happen! We know there were other ways to kill Thanos as we saw on Earth 838 but the only connecting people there were Doctor strange & a Maria Rambeua Captain Marvel variant. I think Kang set it up so that we had no mutants, no inhumans to help, leading to Strange only seeing one way & Tony discovering the inverted “möbius” strip & developing the time travel watch which He who remains has himself in Loki.
@@yourtube1424 exactly to all of that
Anything is possible with retcon
The multiverse is created through different choices in life. When he first used Alioth, Alioth chewed all of the branches of possibilities, but Alioth perhaps could not keep it up, so He Who Remains built the TVA, an organization that exists to preserve one branch, and made it the main trunk of the tree, and stopping any other branches from growing by capturing people who made different choices in life
He Who Remains was presented with the multiversal trolley problem, and eventually chose the lesser evil. Which drives home the point, with great power comes great responsibility.
If it’s not the BATTLEWORLD Route, I really-really hope they bring back a version of He who remains/TVA in the end to bring everything back to status quo.
History is repeating, and knowing Allioth can end a multiversial power war, it’ll be one of the „must-haves“ in the next phases 😂
There’s a reason he who remains TVA sanctioned Tonys time travel and sacrificial defeat of Thanos. Once they reveal Avengers Tower was purchased by Reed Richards his descendent Nathaniel Richards aka Kang will find some kind of uplink to Tonys time travel tech in his old building which is why the MCU is the “Sacred Timeline” to He Who Remains it gives birth to him, the Avengers and Lokis may even go on in Kang Dynasty to assist a young Nathaniel Richards in dominating Alioth and ending the multiversal war clipping the timelines that birth dangerous variants just like he had scripted at end of Loki season 1 proving he is indeed “He who remains,” except maybe at the end of Kang Dynasty when the Avengers think they’ve won, Doom takes takes power and destroys the ENTIRE MULTIVERSE and taking its pieces and creating Battleworld in Secret Wars, but eventually loses and we are left with the single marvel ultimate universal now that the multiverse is collapsed. In fact it may be how we get the X men fully get integrated into the main MCU, because they’ve always existed in other branches like Xavier but now there’s only one universe some are able to survive and get to essentially resetting the MCU to the MCUU, the Marvel Cinematic Ultimate Universe. If Kevin Fiege is reading this and needs ideas hmu lol
I’ve watched every MCU movie and show, some more than once….and never put this all together. Nice work.
I always assumed that the coming multi versal war was the same multi versal war that He Who Remains was talking about at the end of Loki.
I've wondered that too. Weird time paradox stuff.
Bcoz of Earth 616 action, the people or even villains will unite against Earth 616 to stop messing with other universe. Thats when arishem will pass judgment, and he sent Galactus
What's the assumption in that? That is what that happens eventually
@@keerthichandra376 Because he says that it is. She kills him, starts a war that he wins and creates the sacred timeline. He says that it's happened countless times before. Not sure how Marvel is gonna retcon that though. There's no way they're going to devote the next 5 years of content and a full reboot to having the villain win.
My theory about he who remains is actually a variant where he discovered the multiverse but in his cautious mind he closed it to avoid potential dangers.
Thumbs up for Low-Key Kang Variants to Chill & Study With
There was always a multiverse. He just prunes the ones where they deviate anywhere towards a kang other than him getting anywhere in his life. Loki surviving became a VERY bad thing and pruned every timeline a Loki has ever been in. Loki directly causes some instrumental change where chaos occurs. The character development in the first Loki season points to Loki being part of the solution to an end of the time loop. He is the only one who can break the cycle, but sylvie represents the less docile version of Loki, the part that can ONLY breed chaos.
This got me even more excited for Quantumania than I already am.
Most excited I've been for an Ant-Man movie beyond "That looks fun."
Nocap we only a month away!!
I'm really worried about Quantumania. Usually Ant-Man movies are about fun. Putting Kang as an antagonist of one of them is really concernable.
@@LFValias The director has said that this Ant-Man movie will be unlike the others. That Quantumania will have stakes, that actually affect the MCU.
@@LFValias that's actually one of the reasons I'm really excited about it. I LOVE all of the Ant-Man movies but the general MCU lore like Ant-Man to the point of sometimes writing him [and the movies] off as a filler.
I'm hoping the consequences of this movie will have folks revisit the previous Ant-Man movies and hopefully show it a bit more love
My theory is strange will become the new version of He who remains. It would line up with his arc of wanting to use magic and protect all of reality. How cool would it be that he lost his hands and couldn’t perform surgery on someone to save them, but instead does surgery on the entire multiverse to save everyone.
amazing theory actually
Nah...
Like Black Priest Dr. Strange. Exactly.
If you think about it, Kang the Conqueror’s return is Loki’s greatest act of mischief
Loki sucks lol
The forgetting spell doesn't makes everyone on Earth forget. Instead, it modifies/ introduces/ replaces portions or the entirety of the universe such that the people within it will behave like those of another universe which Dr. Strange specified in his spell. The spell going wrong is the equivalent of a stack overflow, which caused partial/incomplete interpretation of Dr. Strange's initial input. At least... this is how I make sense of how a mind-affecting magic affects a multiverse when it malfunctions.
The Ultron episodes were breaking my brain because if the multiverse is truely endless then that means there are infinite amounts of variants of that same Ultron with the infinity stones wrecking the multiverse. The whole multiverse/time travel theory creates paradox's on itself over and over when you get into the details
Wow this is actually the multiverse summary I didn’t know I needed!
Yes indeed, he was legitimately correct about what he said.
Agreed 🤓
🤦🏻
Is there a third option?
Every word !! 🤣
Loki just cant do anything right
It really sounds like a built in reboot button. Every sacred timeline would be a new reboot of the movies
I'm almost certain the creation of Iron Lad will be the solution in Secret Wars. I think the avengers will end up going to go after child Nathanial Richards, only to be stopped and killed by Kang/He who remains.
but in the process for the first time in any Cycle in the MCU, Nathanial Richards will meet Kang, and Iron Lad will be created, who will unite the young avengers in Secret Wars to not create a new Sacred Timeline, but open up the timelines without the Kang Dynasty waging their Multiverse War.
It would be kind of cool if they went full inversion and we get a new TVA after all this. Time would sill need to be protected from threats like Infinite Ultron and the like so a TVA would still be needed. Even better if led by a Council of Nate's, who would replace the Council of Reed's from the comics in the MCU.
Awesome video Ryan. Thx for all the explanations.
I'm thinking Avengers: Secret Wars could be the last MCU crossover film; where it should end with He Who Remains winning the multiversal war again and the final post-credit scene should be He Who Remains watching the events of Tony Stark getting kidnapped by the Ten Rings in Iron Man (2008) where it fades to black after AC/DC starts playing Back In Black.
I look forward to your mcu videos more than any other on RUclips! Man if you went through The Animorphs books that would be awesome!
The channel is really amazing!
I love that I can just come on RUclips every morning and there’s a new video dropped
Screen Crush always has that goated content
I think the multiverse existed before the death of He who remains because in Loki episode 1 when Loki is in the TVA and he views his life you can see just as the film tape runs out if you pause at that moment it is labelled 616( The designated number for that universe) implying as multiverse existed..The sacred timeline is the timeline of the multiverse that does not lead to the rise of the evil variants of he who remains
We are now officially in the era of Kang 😤😤🙌🙌
1:40 The Langoliers!!!! I have never heard anyone reference that one. I've used that story as an analogy for years and I always have to explain! Wow!
Thanos didnt "destroy" the universe. He cleansed it from 50% of living beings. That is not universe destruction.
2:33 would love to see THAT multiversal war :D
The best way to resolve it was put the tva in the hands of Loki and sylvie. He who remains couldn’t risk changing the tva into more of a peacekeeping force as that would reveal the timekeepers being fake and then no one would agree to this idea, but he also knew tha Loki and sylvie had the potential to make it work without risking another multiversal war, due to their power as both being nexus beings.
True, loki and sylvie escaped the sacred timeline which would lead to their death. The multiversal war was about Kang saving his own universe in response to Earth 616 action. Earth 616 Strange, Wanda or many others unknowingly broke the timeline but fhey have Kang the Good who fix it for them. Since Kang the Good ( Earth616) is dead, Kang of other universe will plot against Earth 616 before their universe will end
Omg finally a proper breakdown thank you!!
HELL YEA! The Langolliers!
I got to Meet Bronson around 2k9 when I worked for VW in Detroit, He was the voice of the Black VW Bug that interviewed the Clelebs for the TV Spots.
When I met him and got an autograph he asked if I was a BHCop fan, I said no Balki & The Langoliers was a Great Flick!
He Laughed his Ass Off!
You’ve got the best MCU videos on the whole of RUclips, thank you! I’ll watch your vids an then I get to havin those same conversations with my friends too about it😂
I really can’t wait to see what is in store for the MCU. Thanks!
When I first saw Loki I assumed that after they killed he who remains everything they saw in that video about the multiverse in the first episode would happen and eventually they'd end up back at the end of the timeline again and Loki or Sylvie or both end up taking the job. It's like a loop they will forever have to go around until they take the job and keep the sacred timeline going.
Thanks for the video
You quite possibly passed the perfect place to put a Henry cavil as geralt clip in when u talked about the lesser of 2 evils
I've had this theory/idea for 2 months now. Got it re watching Loki, I asked what if He who Remains was telling us the future.. ie spoiling secret wars .. and he is the main villain, but also the hero , because Variants 😎🤘
I love this stuff. Perfect while waiting on the next movie!
The breakdown! 🔥🔥🔥 - Pap Brady
This full explanation is genius!
It’s been a minute since I’ve watched Loki but I remember Ravonna telling Loki that the Avengers time traveling was supposed to happen… But likely not for the reason she thought it was for. I think He Who Remains meant for them to stir the pot (so to speak) to create a Loki variant that would be able to make it to the end of the line (😉). And if he didn’t cull Steve’s “Peggy”timeline, who knows what heroes and villains were created there.
Kang = Rick Sanchez is what I got from this lol im kidding, great vid!
NIce video dude.
He does say he's gone by many names, one of which is conquerer, I believe he is the same as the one that has arrived because timey whimey
Niceeeee work explaining what could possibly happen 😭
Someone said it but I will say it as well. This explanation makes so much more sense and wow!!! Thank you, im now even more hyped for the new phase!!! And ur dog is beyond adorable. Do I dare compare him to baby groot?!?!? He is a close second lmao
I liked the "Smallville" reference you used
Hahaha Pac-Man sounds overlaid the Langoliers lol 😆 I almost spat out my coffee!
I had totally forgotten about ultron variants… bring back James Spader. Also isn’t there a theory that the TVA tried to stop Steve Rodgers from creating a branch by going back to Peggy and then he convinced them to let him stay and they figured it out?
the insanity of infinite multiverses means you can have infinite versions of characters who all differ by one thing like blinking 4 times at 8:04am instead of 5 times. or a strand of hair blowing differently in the wind. it is beyond the stark contrasting differences portrayed in the mcu.
I wonder if the Ancient One knew about the sacred time line? She knew about branch time lines and their potential negative impact.
Nice The Langoliers reference!
Great explanation
I hope eventually Strange and the other heroes work with a different variant of Nathaniel Richards such as The Iron Lad and do something better than the sacred time-line.
So i love your videos and wanted to ask you. So how come the sacred timeline starts branching before He Who Remains gets the dagger to his chest?
I'm going back to the ice for another 90 years!!
I'm too old for this!!

Hello there

I love the Langoliers reference
Incredible insight. Phase 5 is going to be a wild ride.
Since Loki is now the god of stories he has even more capabilities to literally write the story, how it all unfolds. He may be of more importance than realized if they use him in that manner
Am looking forward seeing Marvel Studios Loki Season 2
@screencrush are you sure that the sacred timeline is simply ONE universe? I was under the impression that it was multiple (yet a finite amount of) universes that all excluded Kang variants?
To my understanding (which may be flawed), the main purpose of the TVA was to eliminate any universe that produced a Kang (as he who remains had the omniscient foresight to predict his coming).
But that doesn’t mean there are universes that could have existed with out there ever being a Kang.
Strange- incursions???
Reed- WHEN THE WORLDS COLLIDE!!! ( starts rocking out)
When Steve went back in time he stayed in our timeline so there were 2 Steve Rodgers
Great Scott
In terms of the multiverse, I agree that it's either "stifling order or cataclysmic chaos." The concept of incursions and branched timelines, left unchecked, create endless problems that it would become impossible to keep up with. The MCU heroes will have to find a substitute for He Who Remains, but would they not have to implement the same law and order as Kang, as a means to avoid chaos?
At the end of loki Sylvie teleports loki to another time-line inside the TVA. You can do a video on how he who remains had that point in that time-line already preprogrammed to potentially have loki sent back to that time via sylvie. Sylvie is smart but I'm not sure she had time to program where she was going to send loki.
At that point, her decision was inevitable. The TVA exists outside of the Sacred Timeline or any timeline for that matter. They had passed the point of everything He Who Remains knew of what would happen. That's why he was excited. The fate of existence hinged on what Loki and Sylvie decided right then and there. By forcibly sending Loki back, she had already made her decision, therefore the TVA was already a different place from what Loki knew despite existing outside of the flow of time.
That pizza papa shout out was spot on. Morality in the multiverse is the differentiator
In the first 3 seconds I read the title "HE WHO REMAINS RIGHT" hahahah!
so it could also be that He Who Remains may be like the last remaining multiversal Avenger as well
When He Who Remains said: And that's the gambit. Maybe he was referring to the X-Men's Gambit, now we all saw Professor X in Doctor Strange 2. And also Wolverine is coming back in the upcoming Deadpool 3..
I see it like this. There are 10 people in an infinitely long hallway with a giant dragon following their path and eating people. This dragon will only stop after it's killed 9 people. After someone is killed, another person is dropped in so there's always 10 people in this hallway. So naturally, this dragon is always eating and people are always running/fighting each other to be the one person out of the 10 to stay alive.
Now, there's an option to choose 1 person out of the 10, have them live a peaceful life not even knowing the dragon exists, but then you'd have to continuously feed that dragon person after person. As soon as someone spawns in, they are sacrificed straight to the dragon. So which is the lesser of two evils?
The reason why people say the sacred timeline is the lesser of two evils is because the story is being told from the perspective of the timeline being preserved and protected, not the one being snuffed out. To me, it's pretty fucked up that one person (in the analogy) gets to live in peace and ignorance while people are continuously being killed at their expense. At least give them a chance to fight for their lives. That's the natural order of things. Sure no one gets to live in peace, but at least everyone has a chance and the choice to fight.
When you described how Kang controlled people you can transfer that to wanda as well
6:46
No, the multiverse isn’t destructive, sometimes making the best decision is.
You know what would be awesome? If the multiverse saga comprehends The transformation of this Kang that opposes The Avengers into... The one that remains
lmao Langoliers shoutout. I was a teen when that came out and I was like wtf is this
Hmm you made a great side point. What if they already setup a future X-men vs avengers storyline and we missed it. What if the X-men are from the universe where Wanda killed xavier
My theory is kang dynasty will with earth 616 universe being completely wiped out by kang.
In secret wars, a team of young avengers will travel to multiple universe to rally everyone together to fight the multiple lands.
Then we'll see the world war hulk will lead his loyal followers (the entire planet) into the middle of the secret wars joining other variant heroes fighting the kangs like X-men, fantastic 4 and all the Spidermen.
Kudos. You explained, far more succinctly, what my Aspie arse has laid out to over a hundred others, for months now.
(Wait, ya saw Dr Strange 2, but didnt see WandaVision, Loki or Spidey3(NWH) & are confused as to the future layout and Kang's power/relevance ??)
This was one of the best episodes.
He who remains seems like the "kang the conquerer" who succeeded. He killed all his variants and succeded in getting peace.
The implications of infinite universes in infinite timelines with the society we all live in here means as every spurned comic reader can predict.....RECONS are inevitable and divisiveness will bring this whole shabang will usher in the resurrection of an actual film industry instead of reheating the same plot over and over again
I agree with u this was a solid theory
I'd like to see an all out free for all between oliath and Galactus cloud
"In the grand calculus of the multiverse, Their sacrifice means infinitely more than their lives". I get chills and goosebumps every time I hear those lines from Strange(Existential Nihilism?), Dr Strange has got some pretty cool lines in the MCU, after Captain America ofc!
In our timeline he who remains is known as "Bob Iger", he was gone, we thought, but now he's back!
The thing that has been bothering me is the question of whether or not the sorcerers and Dr. strange (or even the Ancient One) knew about He Who Remains? This was something not even addressed in either NWH or MoM.
My inclination is that Dr. strange was aware of the governing TVA at the very least, but again none of this is addressed, and I hope it is addressed at some point.
I really wish the MCU would’ve stuck with one multiverse theory and ran with it, instead of combining multiple theories. By doing that, they broke their own rules on how it works. They just interchange the words timeline, multiverse, universe, dimension and realm and call it good.
America also tells Strange that she’s been to 72 different universes, aka prolonged multiversal travel = more incursions
America’s travel does not cause incursions because she has no variants
The thing about multivere timelines everything has already happened.
If HWR was telling the truth, then he was ridiculously relying on two Loki variants to do the "right, logical thing." That makes no sense. At a minimum, it was foreseeable that the two Loki's would disagree and fight each other with any secondary outcomes being unpredictable. No, HWR could not have been telling the truth, if logic and reason are the guide. With the MCU in its current state, who knows.
Did you call Alioth a purple vape monster😅
I wonder if at the end of all this is the infinity stones will come back into play and maybe the avengers 616 and other Denison’s all hold on to them like in the comics. Each avengers held onto a certain stone for a bit
You guys should break down Picard season 3
Kane's story involving Ravana Rimslayer in the comic book is like 😮😢
Hey was right that’s wild 😮
*perpetual state of chaos
