Love how the girls sang "rockaby chicken" lullaby to her. It's so cool that they recognized that (since this was probably sung to them when they were not feeling well) this could be a soothing thing for the dear hen. You are a sweet family.

Isolation, warmth, special care - that sounds like a good care plan. Also, I watched a video recently of a woman who's hen was not feeling well, listless, not eating. She gave her a warm epsom salt bath, submerging her to the neck and very gently rinsed her with the epsom salt bath, bathing / rinsing her in the bath for like 5 (or 10?) minutes. Afterward, the hen began moving about, going into the sun and eating. She recommended this when they are not feeling well.

I just had a similar one. I dewormed her, but saw no worms. I gave her antibiotics, sprayed for mites. Separated her. She did not want regular food and would only eat kitchen scraps and what she can forage. She is back with everyone and stands out of the crowd when they are eating.

Also feed them some fresh green to replenish the Mg.

Sorry to hear about your sick chicken it's always hard to know exactly what is going on with them. I had one similar but caught it quickly and did the ebson salt bath then gave her Poultry Nutri Drench in a syringe No needle. Gave little drops at a time and she started feeling better and started eating. To this day I don't know what was wrong but thankfully I didn't lose her. She's strong and beautiful. Many blessings to you and your family.

We have one just like that. Very underweight and the runt. Just found her looking poorly and straining. She passed a shell-less egg and prob still has more but due to lack of food they are likely shell-less. Yours may be experiencing the same. We have sequestered ours in hopes she will put on weight, eat some calcium fortified food, and pass her backed up eggs. Good luck!

I had one egg bound and she looked awful. Lethargic, like she was dying. You could see she kept pushing. I put her in a warm bath with Epsom salts, took calcium magnesium pills crushed them and put them in a couple ounces of water and got her to drink that. I fed her little bits of food to keep her energy up then another couple ounces of water few hours later. Left her quiet in a dark room alone with a kennel over night. Checked her 5am seemed little better so more food (didn’t eat much) and calcium water and by 8am she was strutting around but no egg. I was confused but then boom she laid a weird egg and then by noon she laid another egg with a crappy thin shell that broke. She was fine though!

Egg bound hens have a VERY distinctive upright, penguin-like stance, and will strain to lay the egg every few seconds. As time goes on and they cannot, their eyes will close as they get weaker, but the penguin stance and straining will continue. Warmth, massage, the warm bath, etc. are all good, as is coating an index finger with olive oil and inserting it into the hen's cloaca, running your fingertip around what you can reach of the egg to get some lubrication up there. Don't be squeamish, time is of the essence! 😁

I don't think you can go wrong giving her some panacur which would treat worms and giardia with all the rains. Its also very gut soothing. Any stress will often cause a cascade of problems with parasites being the main culprit. Syringe some water with dextrose or molasses and I'll even soak pellets to a very thin gruel with molasses to try to get their energy up.

Poor girl..I've had a couple do this last year. Showed all the signs of being egg bound, but nothing. Eventually, it went through the flock. Most got over it, but I lost 2 of the small ones. I tried corid, then someone recommended acidified copper sulfate. The wild doves were crazy in my run. I'm not sure...copper seemed to help drastically. I'm sorry she's not feeling well. They're so hard to diagnose.

I just had to put down a hen i thought was egg bound. Her behavior was identical to egg bound behavior. Especially standing like a duck. I tried all the suggested methods to get her to pass an egg. I couldn't feel an egg anywhere by feeling here sides and abdomen, and couldn't feel one after i put a gloved finger in her vent. In the end i took her to a vet and they xrayed her. No egg but a lot of internal fluid buildup. They inserted a needle and removed about a quarter cup of fluid (not infection). Turned out she likely had some kind of organ failure, possibly due to cancer. I had to put her down.

If you have healthy chickens, but they feel that they don't have enough room, then they will start pecking at eachother and pulling feathers. This will rapidly escalate to them culling the weakest chickens from the herd until they feel that they have enough space, and have killed off all of the chickens that were seriously injured during the culling. From your descriptions of your chickens harassing and plucking eachother, it sounds like you have about 10% more chickens in your coop than your chickens feel is acceptable.
