Becky, it's nice to see you taking such good care of your chickens, please give us an update as to how this egg bound chicken is doing , and when it finally laid the egg. Thanks.
I appreciate you getting to the point and explaining exactly what we needed without all the fluff. Keep up the good work it was very informative
Thank you so much !! New at raising chickens, and I found one this morning lethargic, and tail pumping, watched your video and went step by step. I just checked her (about 6:30 PM), she was up and active, with her first egg laying right there!!! Thanks again!
My vet suggested I crush up fruit flavored Tums for the calcium. My girls loved it!
full of aluminum...dont' do it! don't take them yourself either...

I Know this is an older video but you are still helping people so much! We are new chicken parents and notice one of are best laying brahmas has an egg stuck. Gave her extra calcium and plan on doing a soak tomorrow morning if the egg isn't passed. She seems ok at the moment, not acting ill but we can see the stuck egg 😢 Thanks so much for your help ❤ I didn't know what to do for her.
Did the egg end up passing ! I have an egg bound chicken , I can feel the egg but unable to move it ! Chicken won’t eat , I’m worried she gone too far !
You have taken such loving care of that little hen. Thank goodness you were there for her. Glad you were able to realize what she was lacking to avoid further problems. Bravo Becky!
You are just the sweetest! So full of info and easy going. I've learned more watching a few of your videos than all my searches combined this year! Keep it up
Thank you so much!!! We noticed that our little hen wasn’t doing as well as her sisters, felt up her vent and realized she had an egg stuck up there. We went and soaked her in warm water and epsom salt, about an hour later she passes it as soon as we were gonna try and help her get it out!
This is fabulous information!!! I never knew the reason behind egg bound hens. I always have oyster shell in a pile in a special place inside the coop at all times because I don't want thin eggshells and the shells breaking inside the hen, eggs breaking inside the hens is often fatal. My hens are my pets too. They love flying up and sitting on my lap when I'm outside. I free range my girls, they love the extra bugs and hang out in the woods most the day.❤️
Yes I have oyster shell down, my favourite hen is egg bound just doing this now fingers crossed. If not it’s a trip to the vets.
@@hamper22 how is she?
@@queenieburgers50 She recovered fine thank you ❤️
@@hamper22 how long did it take till she passed the stuck egg ?
@@mitchspud1 I think it was within the day as I remember.
Hi Becky just so everyone knows Magnesium is what makes muscles relax & the heart relase & beat 'out',
Calcium makes the muscles contract & supports their strength so they can tense & in the heart's case beat "IN", so Calcium & Magnesium are the two minerals that feed the muscle system so they can contract & release & relax, so consider having some CAL Mag on hand or a product called CALMS. Great video thanks so much.
This is a very informative video! I learn so much from the step by step tutorials. Thanks so much.
Becky, I am following your directions right now with an egg bound chicken. She is resting alone right now, after having a soak this afternoon. Today will be 3rd soak for her. Thanks a TON for this!
well I hope it works for you! I lost 2 of my hens due to this wish I knew this 5 years a go
I think you are wonderful in everything you do and an inspiration to all who watch you. Thank you so much x
this might be really helpful in the future because I just got new chickens. Thanks Becky!
Thanks for sharing. Your video helped save our isa brown that had the same issue. While we had her in the water (didnt have epson salt) she dropped an egg. Soon after she began feeling better and is OK.
Hey everybody!! I just wanted to let you all know!
I had a hen who 3 days ago I saw my hen- all the signs and symptoms of egg bound.
She was looking pretty bad- yesterday I did put her in a warm Epsom salt bath ( I filled a horse feed bowl with warm water, Epsom salt, sea salt, and baking soda- in my kitchen sink with a laundry basket over her and covered that with a towel- I put relaxing 432 hertz music) and played that for her-
She sat in it for about 1 hour
I also gave her an eye dropper if 2droos Lobelia and 1 dropper full of valerian ( valerian relaxes muscles and lobelia pushes things forward- this is also a GREAT remedy for a collicking horse!! )
I made cod oil many months ago and rubbed some of this on her hind end and put it in the herb solution and gave her an eye dropper full- I did this two times-
She JUST passed her egg!! I am going to keep her in the box in the chicken coup for the rest of the day just for quite along with food and water- I also have egg shell calcium with her and all the other chickens as well.
I also have a slippery road lm tree which I share the branches with you hen- it’s a demulcent and nutritive.
I’m just so happy so I had to share this story 🌹❤️🌹
Thanks for sharing your story. How's your chicken doing today?
Brilliant. V helpful. Thanks.
Hi Becky thanks for your vid clip much appreciated. I have a hen that was walking strange 3 days ago, her butt was messy. I washed her yesterday after the bath she acted like she was on deaths door, but today she is up again and just standing around. I will do the Epsom salts bath & see how that goes today. Thanks again xo
You helped me so much as i was letting her soak. I didn't know when to expect the egg to dislodge. You said it may take several soaks.thank you for that so much!
Thank you very much.. I was having the same problem with my chicken and I though she was sick. Thanks God I did research and found you.. I have my chicken since she was born .. I live in Taiwan, I love your videos, thank you for sharing knowledge to me.
Thanks Becky. Your hen looks about like mine that's bound right this minute. She's a Rhode Island Red/Buckeye mix. YOU ARE AWESOME!
Great video Becky! Thank you for sharing the tips :) Enjoy watching your videos!
This was some really great information Becky! thank you very much....
That was helpful to see how you did that. If I just read about it I would be wondering if I was doing it right. Thanks!
Great video! There are so many newbie chicken peeps this is so helpful! Great info!🐓
You are so loving with your hens.
You are a godsend! I have been taking care of my neighbor's chickens because he's an 84 year old veteran and they had drug addicts over here not doing what they should be :-( I know nothing about chickens but knew something was wrong with one of them her butt was hanging and looked like her guts were in her bottom! Now I know that she is egg bound I just pray that she will let me get a hold of her to soak her. You guys please say a prayer for this chicken. Thank you so much honey you are such a help to us regular people!
Did she make it?
Great video! Nice step-by step instructions.
How did the chicken do?
Helpful video. I like you did things outdoors. Thank you!
How nice of you to share how to help your chicken lay eggs! Did she lay?
Nice, coop plans! Very handy for cleaning the big coop. Like a small chicken run.
Thank you! My hen is going through this right now.
Off to the store I go!
Another great educational video! Thanks!
Thanks Becky I appreciate the information so much. My poor hen got her first egg stuck and I feel terrible. This should help a lot and I'm hoping she passes it soon. 🙏

Thanks again Becky, another excellent video and i was not aware of this either.
I just gave you a new nickname, "The chicken lady" because of your in-depth knowledge about chickens.
I know this is an older video but I just recently found your channel and I am a new chicken mom. So this information is exactly what I needed b/c my best layer "Martha" is not laying and walking funny.. So thanks for the tips and I will be hunting up your website just shortly..

Great video Becky. Wow, you are really slimming down girl. Looking great. Thanks for the video.
I've got a 4mo Orpington that is limping very bad, I've separated her from ybe rest of the flock,
I'm not sure what it could be
I love you Becky, I'm doing this right now. Poor Henny is really vocal about her egg being stuck as she just started laying 2 months ago. Thanks
Omg thank you so much for telling these important things!
I adore your videos they make my day
Hi Becky, I've been doing this with my chicken for a couple of days, and she hasn't laid an egg yet. She looks very uncomfortable. What else can we try?
Thanks. We ran out of calcium a month ago and hadn’t been adding it to their food. Her belly looks like she swallowed a hard ball. :/ I’ve soaked her two nights in a row but just learned now after watching to add calcium to her food.
Hey Becky...your looking great chica!..much love from So.Cali.
Wonderful video. I love learning from you! You look like you feel really great, by the way. Very healthy.
((I have a high voice & it irritates people, which of course is hard for me to understand. But it helps if we try not to raise our voices an octave. I just wanted to pass that along.))
I have a question, can I take eggs from an incubator and stick them in with the broody Hen a few days before theyre gonna hatch? BTW I just found your channel and love it! Thanks for putting them out for us newbies :-)
Did the hen recover?
Thanks for this - I hate seeing chooks go downhill with this, it's so easy to prevent (although I appreciate we can't save them all).
Very informative. Thanks
Thankyou Becky!!
Becky - Love your show and LOVE your red hat in this episode! Can you tell me where you got it? Thanks!
Thanks for the video becky
Fabulous attempt to ease hen
Thanks Becky for making it look easy and less intimidating. I have been slacking on giving the girls extra calcium and crushed egg shells. I hope and pray my girl makes it through, her little comb is folded over. :(
Thanks for sharing Becky.
nice ending lol.
She looks so happy in that bath! She knows she is loved!
I'm watching this while one of my chickens is in a bath, we have had egg bound chickens before and have done this before I just wanted to see how u did it and so far so good
+Katelin ussery Make sure you add calcium to their diet. Alfalfa hay works really good and they like it. Calcium helps them from getting egg bound
Becky's Homestead cool, our lil hen is alright now, we did get a couple of soft shell eggs from a different hen so we will be adding calcium to their diet.
the liquid calcium works better the kind for cattle u get at the feed store and h feed. it with. syringe works like a charm
Does regular human calcium supplement pills work?
Hey she’s the one who her own cabin! Wow. I stoped watching after the build. Nice to see her! She’s tough. Stayed in a tent and hid from people driving by and gawking at her. Here’s the thing I was watching her on RUclips gawking at her to she was amazing but then she said that I should buy land where no flood FEMA where it had electricity and I didn’t just plug into city electricity and she said be careful for swamps I think and I had all of those and I’m just about to go to the property and build my cabin so she’s my inspiration and she’s awesome.
Hi Becky. Just found this video today. Giving me great hope for success for a really lovely girl. Will get salts, set up isolation place tomorrow down here in Australia. Will comment if it works for her.
Any chance of you linking to the Mortar & Pestle used in ‘’How to Fix An Egg Bound Hen’’?
great topic!
Yes Becky will do🙂
Great video!!!
how do you build the fence for your chicken coop/enclosure is that a ready made wire fence or you made it yourself ?
I think one of my hen having similar problem.her lower abdomen is very hard when I touch there.do you think is problem is egg bound?
Hi Becky, the calcium tablets are calcium tablets for people? Or I need to look for a diferentes calcium tablets for animals?
Thank you very much for all your videos they are very informative and helpful.
🍃💛🍃
What kind of calcium did you use. I'm trying to find a kind at CVS, but I don't know which one. So can you please help me. Thank you
This is so helpful!! I just got chicks and some of my friends have egg bound chickens and they ended up passing away because I guess they didn't do it right, so this is great!
+Sydney Ashcraft Thanks Sydney, I hope this helps.
+Sydney Ashcraft You can also solve the problem by giving them back their egg shells crushed ... so after you eat the eggs or use them however, dry out the shells and than either grind them down down or throw them in a food processor. It will save you an expense of buying more things. Also you might want to learn about what chickens can actually eat it will surprise you. It certainly did me. I changed my chickens diet their eggs taste better an they seem happier an more eager when feeding time comes. I even vetted the diet with my own vet before hand.
+Tyger Arnett Can you please share a little more about how you changed their diet? What were you feeding them and what did you add/delete to their diet? Thanks
I hope Becky does a follow-up to let us know how things go with this chicken.
+Sydney Ashcraft It's a very drawn out painfull death for them.
Just wondering, how much do you spend on care/food for the animals per month?
Thank you so much. this helped m out.
Our hen is having the symptoms of being egg bound, but more. She also pooped out thin milky mucus a couple times. That makes me think it's something more serious. She also had clear (looked like water) liquid come out of her mouth. Any ideas what that could be. We are quarantining her. Thank you in advance, Meghan
Thank you very much
I like your seat! Where did you get it from? I need one of those.
I think the egg has bust inside my Isabel, what are her chances with this treatment? Thank you for the info x
"I THINK MY BACKS' UNCOVERED" LOL
lol
great video
Thanks it was so helpful....Love the video your Awesome:')
How would you know if the chicken is egg bound? Also, how many days do you have to do that for her to get the egg out? Thanks.
My barred rock pepper is having the same issue. We gave her an epsom salt bath and two calcium tablets but she hasn’t passed the egg yet. She is walking with her tail down and is very lethargic. Is there anything else we can do to save her?
Have you dealt with a chicken having an oviduct egg? My 21 week girl is believed to have one, according to the vet. We are waiting and hoping for the egg to pass through but still no egg. Since starting pain meds and an antibiotic she is perky and eating grass with her only symptom now being a decreased appetite and of course no egg has come out. I'm wondering if there is anything else that can be done.
