We live in an area with the 2nd cheapest electric rates in America.
A neighbor had solar panels installed in his house during the build.
One of his electric bills last winter was .32 cents for the month.
The highest electric bill we’ve ever paid was 3 winters ago.
We keep our house at 68 degrees F and my dad kept his apartment at 75 degrees Fahrenheit.
His apartment is attached to our house, but he can have his temperature set differently than ours, but it’s the same heat pump, heater and A/C unit.
Our daytime highs for that month was 20 degrees Fahrenheit.
Our bill was $140 that month.
Our house is 2220 sq ft and his 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom apartment with a full kitchen is 800 sq ft.
We’re wanting to install solar into our next home which we will build in MT.
Eric, thanks for your wealth of knowledge and insight. I appreciate it !
You're welcome Doc
Tariffs never hurt the country they are against, they only hurt the consumers.
Amen!
That's a naive ideology.
Offshore manufacturing of everything encourages manufacturers to move jobs and factories offshore.
The companies then lobby to avoid tariffs so we lose US jobs, tax base from jobs and factories, we educate other countries workforce and also transfer wealth offshore.
This guy's rant is so short sighted. China undervalued it's currency artificially. It's foolish to let other countries do all the export.
It undermines America to let China dump goods while giant corporations make gobs of money yet America citizens watch the middle class get crushed.
Made in China profits communism. It's an exodus of wealth like we've never seen
Tariffs are a double edged sword. They help regulate imports but drive up prices. I think they are best avoided, we claim to have free markets.
the government is going to spend the money anyway. at least it's a tax you have a choice to pay, or you can buy American.
@@AndrewBurbo-zw6pf but according to the Biden administration modern monetary theory MMT they can just print whatever money they want to spend. So this tax isn't for money to be raised by the government we're going to be 50 trillion dollars in debt in 4 years anyways it's just to hurt consumers honestly.
Love my solar. Nice sense of security. Always expanding. Absolutely DIY.
415 W Trina Solar Panels are under 55€ (60 $) here in Germany now. From the first module. If you buy full pallets it is even cheaper. In 2023 I has to pay 200 € (216 $)
WOW! Yes, Europe is being flooded the Chinese panels and EV's right now. That is an amazingly low price.
And we are 7nable to establish tariffs, because we are selling more german cars in china than in europe.
Volkswagen and BMW don't want their Chinese market to be cut.
I don't have any insider info, I did hear about the upcoming terrifs a little while ago, but after seeing how much prices have dropped for solar and batteries in the last few years, I definitely don't see them going down anymore no matter what happens. I'm in no position to build a large system but I bought a couple small panels and a LifePO4 battery with the money I had from extra hours I worked. Can always buy more later, or just settle with building something small with what I have if prices skyrocket past what I'll pay.
Glad you are working on your system. Hope you can build it up.
I love seeing the intro to your videos where you have your kiddos involved in your life & work!
Thanks. I appreciate that. I try to have them involved in everything so they can learn.

Revelation 3:20

Revelation 22:12-14

I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.
Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
The problem is, the solar industry wants people to buy entire home solar power systems for tens of thousands of dollars. More would be sold if industry would push hobby kits of 300 to 400 watt systems to power various little home projects.
I agree. That is why I show people how to DIY their own systems and start small.
recently got longi panels 450w 76$ a piece in thailand
That is an amazing price!
Thanks for the heads up!
You're welcome
I purchased my original 10 REC panels for $352.EA. In 2021. Found what I thought was a bargain of a deal on 10 more matching for $275.EA. Now Signature is advertising them for $104.EA. I should buy another 10 just to have @ that price.
Always good to have backup panels
Just last week, I ordered 26 x 345w *new* (Mission Solar) panels for $123/panel including shipping. Seemed like a pretty good price compared to my previous new and used purchases over the last 7 years. I can well believe what you're sharing :)
In EU we are currently at $85 per 435 Watt panel.
Cool
You keep saying "Gigawatts", don't you mean "Jigawatts"? I mean, come on, have you never watched the movie, "Back to the Future"? Come on! It is 1.21 Jigawatts! And you can only get that from a bolt of lightning!

Recently updated the firmware on my EG4 Lifepower4’s. After updating I charged them at @ 56.8v and all 12 BMS’s performed a top balance on cells. SOC of all 12 batteries are grouped much tighter now. They all have been staying within 5% to 6% of each other. My system is totally DIY also Eric. Good heads up for anyone considering buying more panels.
Thanks pal!
Glad your battery SOC is staying in a tight range. I may give mine another top balance to see if I can knock the three batteries that are really out of sync back into line.
@@CountryLivingExperience 👍
Darn it i need to buy the batteries asap 😮
Thank you~, solar panels are very cheap now
Awesome video! We always enjoy your content. This is a very educational piece and good for the public to know. Keep up the great work!!
Thank you! I appreciate it.
Glad I live in Thailand. 😅
Really like how nicely you have your panel ground mounting. Do you have a video on what you used to do that?
Thank you. We do...here.....ruclips.net/video/Un3qeh4W-68/видео.html
The thing I hate about your system is that it is on the ground. I hate that, both aesthetically and land use wise. Solar panels belong ON buildings and nowhere else.
That is extremely narrow minded and not practical in many cases. As an Architect, I do not recommend them on a roof.
Thanks for the info. 👍🏼
You’re welcome
I am happy i have found your channel. We are looking for land in Northern TX to homestead. I hope to learn a lot from your channel! 😊
FYI THE price of imports from china will go up 200%
Potentially
@@CountryLivingExperience our president said. That’s what he is planning 200%
Putting solar panels on the roof is stupid and a recipe for a headache. Not everyone has lots of land for ground mount solar panels. What if solar panels are elevated above ground on an open frame structure so space below solar panels are still useful? What are the best ways to build these open frame structure?
I agree panels on a roof are a bad idea. I recommend getting out of the city to a country property first and then you will have land to put a ground mount.
There are many ways to build a structure that will work for you....it will be a case by case basis based on your needs.
I've seen them raised high enough for a carport or backyard gazebo and even as lean-to attached to side of a shed. Lower clearance areas can cover a lawn mower or ATV, water pump shed, or you could stack firewood underneath.
@@tammieaf2712 Would love to see videos on strut channels being used for building solar carport.
If the panels are already here in the states then tariffs won’t apply.
The tariffs were already applied to them.
there is more solar panels behind you than there is roof to the house behind you lol....you should have used them panels as a veranda or carport
That GW HUGE STOCK of solar panels should be installed as 2-axis tracking floating solar on Lake Mead to give 12hr clean energy and pump excess water from Gulf Mississippi outflow via a new pipeline.
The state of Louisiana is disappearing due to all the locks, dams, diversion canals and levees preventing the Mississippi River from flowing and naturally depositing silt and mud. The Delta needs to flood to replenish the soil.
and make sure to save the receipts. most states and feds have solar programs during tax time
If you get more tariffs in US then we in EU get even flooded with more solar panels. We will be able to build a solar roof from Amsterdam to Palermo. - LOL
Very true
Its unfortunate that signature solars customer service has gone downhill. Their website had products on sale that werenin stock butncouldnt be added to a cart as well.
There are cheaper and more responsive companies out there and Inwoild tecommend doing tour research.
Their customer service has only improved over the years in my opinion.
Do you have active grid power and a transfer switch of some kind? Or are you completely disconnected from the grid? I'm looking to do the former until I can ween off the elec, per se
I have an active grid but my system is wired off grid like a generator essentially. I have about 50 videos you can check out on solar. A few of the early one show how I connected it.
Do you know of a good retailer in Ohio? Texas is a bit far to drive.
I don’t, sorry. Signature Solar does ship everywhere though.
With respect, do some research on the value of tariffs in international trade.
With respect, I have for many years and have a degree in economics. They are harmful like I mentioned.
I would buy some panels from Signature Solar, but… the freight fees were half the cost of the panels. I think my only option to not overpay on panels is to buy local, so I can pick them up. About tariffs on panel, so how is that going to work, with a glut of solar already there? I saw that far less panels were actually produced in China than I thought. Sure, they may be a Chinese connected company, but panels made in south Asian countries are not technically China. So I wonder if this is really going to make that much of a difference?
I totally understand. Freight is pretty expensive. I am blessed to live near Sig Solar.
The tariffs will probably completely stop the flow of new panels because of the expense. When the existing glut is run through, any new panels coming in will be twice the price that they were. Unless in that short period of time we can ramp up production.....but those will be expensive with our labor costs. They may get around it like you said. A Chinese company with a plant in Vietnam could technically get around the tariffs......theoretically.
@@CountryLivingExperiencelucky to live near a distributor like that! The thing is here in California, with the NEM 3 adjustments and high loan rates, it tanked solar installers. But.. I’m surprised how approachable Solar is from a DIY perspective if you are willing to roll up your sleeves. I’m guessing we’ll see a new batch of apparently “non-Chinese” solar companies appear out of nowhere. Haha. Question, I’m looking at a ground mount setup, adding some IronRidge rails to some posts. Do you have any rail equipment suggestions?
If you want to keep the panels lower to the ground, I have had a great experience with the EG4 Brightmount system. I did a few videos on it and I think it is an amazing price. Sig Solar also has a few new options like the Chiko mounts that have an optional ground screw instead of using concrete. Here is the link to it....signaturesolar.com/chiko-usa-groundflex-u2v-solar-panel-ground-mount-kit-large-module-version/?ref=countrylivingexperience
Your link to EG4 6500ex is the same as the 6000XP
Thank you. That is because the 6500 has been retired. The 6000xp took it's place.
i picked up 3.25 kws worth of panels for like 6oo buck acouple weeks ago.
Where? How?

They don't work for us.
They don't work for everyone.
Question: WOULD YOU ADVISE PURCHASING A QUANTITY OF PANELS NOW EVEN THO WON’T BE USING THEM FOR POSSIBLY A YEAR OR 2? WOULD ALSO BUY THE INVERTER & BATTERIES AT A LATER DATE. OR WHAT WOULD YOU SUGGEST PURCHASING NOW THAT WOULD BE USED ON A HOMESTEAD IN THE NEAR FUTURE. MORE THAN LIKELY THE HOMESTEAD WILL BE IN A DIFFERENT STATE THAN LIVING CURRENTLY.
I would. If you store them out of the sunlight in a shed or barn, they will be at 100% for years and years until you can move to your homestead and build your solar system.
@@CountryLivingExperience what brand(s) do you recommend, which ones have the best discount currently, & are they all compatible? There is so much information and “reviews” out there about everything that it can be discouraging and/or overwhelming trying to do your own research. Especially when the subject matter is somewhat complex (for me anyway).
The Aptos 440W Bifacial Solar Panels are currently 48% off which is crazy. I have not heard much about them but I trust what Sig Solar carries. The Canadian Solar 390w panels are 27% off and they have a great reputation. Not sure what you mean by compatible. They all work with any inverter.
@@CountryLivingExperience thanks! I’m gonna check both out. If the deals are that good I wouldn’t think it would hurt to grab even a few. I’m “solar illiterate” (lol) so yes, was wondering if different brand panels are compatible with each other and or inverters, etc. Just making sure if I had a hodgepodge of different brands they would all work together. I’m guessing they all need to be the same watt tho, correct?
@@jerrywall You're welcome. The brands are all compatible with each other. You are correct in understanding that they should all be the same or similar wattage.
What about the newer solar panels that can capture energy in the sun ?
You just described a solar panel.
Lol
About tariffs, I believe they are to discourage slave labor, which China has. That’s why they are so cheap. They are flooding the market to drive out competition and once they do then they will raise their prices.
Tariffs are garbage.
Yep
Good info!
Glad it was helpful
to be balanced my town (Colorado Springs) is building a factory in town to produce solar panel wafers (Meyer Burger)... on the other hand automation will probably be a big part of the "labor" times are changing and it's inevitable... need to adapt don't stay stuck in the past.... capatalism won't allow it and it also encourages less human labor. No capatalist is going to put "patriotism" first.
Incorrect, corporatism (which is a tenet of fascism) won't allow for it. Full free market capitalism is the only solution and it has lifted more out of poverty than any other system in the history of man.
50% tariffs on panels will grind the solar industry into the ground. ROE time is already too lengthy.
ROI for my original system was only 4 years in my area.
Chinas not the only country producing panels so no tariffs. And I don't mind paying a little more if it means not giving our enemy the capital to invest in a military machine we may one day go up against.
@majorhavoc9693 I don't mind paying a little more either. My panels are from a US company that makes them in Mexico.
Panels are not the largest cost in a solar ESS in the first place. Inverters, MPPT chargers and Batteries are all a bigger piece of the pie.
You're wrong about tariffs. Other countries hinder overseas sales of American products by imposing tariffs, while the U.S. lets those same countries import here with hardly a thought.
It’s all about more taxation for Ukraine and illegals!
Is that why Trump issued Tariffs as well? Interesting concept.
@@drcmotorsports
Except Trump had a much better economy and wasn’t trying to enslave humanity through the WEF!
@@drcmotorsports
Trump‘s tariffs were more about American jobs, which he was bringing back before Biden destroyed everything!
@@drcmotorsports
I believe the tariffs are there because the Chinese use slave labor, and they also saturate the markets with low cost products, until they destroy their competition. The US destroyed its currency so they need to send their production overseas.
Seems great but, you seem to be working on the systems all the time. How much time and money are you spending each month? Maybe it would be better to learn how to live with less power? I wouldn't be surprised if they tax the sunshine, afterall they got away with saying some ppl cant collect rain.
Solar once up is set it and forget it. But for the DIY'er solar upgrades, add-on's and tweaking can be very fun and satisfying.
I do upgrades. I don't work on my system much. I do a lot of videos about solar so I am no sure what you are talking about. Additionally most people place solar in an existing home with existing appliances hence the need for a larger system. Why use less if you can build a system to handle what you already have or what you desire....
I watch many of the vids you make. Thanks for the info. Somehow i got the impression that batteries need constant firmware uogrades, balancing and replacement parts. Maybe a channel survey would be a good idea to see if im in the minority? My neighbor spent 70k on a system and due to the utility company's buy back system they aren't really seeing a roi. Thanks for the info in the vids. I got the impression that batteries need co sta t work; firmware rebalancing. @@CountryLivingExperience
You're welcome. I have only updated the firmware on my batteries 2 times in 2 years. No money spent, no purchase of replacement parts. I have had a few parts go bad but they have always been under warranty with free return shipping.
In terms of your neighbor's situation, I totally understand. That is why I always recommend people DIY their own system and install an off-grid type of system instead of grid tied.
