Thank you for the time you took on this video. For the last year I have been saving for and given gifts of your products in order to setup my studio so that I may follow your instruction. My studio has been a problem because of the white and natural light that floods the space. For other art mediums it has been great but I need to be able to transform it when I paint and it needs to stay consistent.
I literally just bought my brushes today that you suggested and was talking to my mom about the issue with my studio. Low and behold you put out this video.
Again thank you. You are so generous with your knowledge.

This was GREAT, thank you! When I first started watching your videos, I thought it was so weird to have your studio so dark, but over time since I have watched many of your videos and instructions, I NOW GET IT!!! This is probably a missing link in Many artist's work! I know for sure for me, this has changed my future as an Artist, Thank you very Much!!!

    Hi Mark,
You have set me into a spin! I've watched lots of your lessons over past couple of days, after having found myself frustrated with what I was trying to do having all the wrong ideas and horrible paint. I am now being transfixed by your wonderful teaching. I am ready to have a red hot go and thank you so much. I have ordered your products and will open them with enthusiasm, wish for once I lived in the U.S.! I would come to the live classes! My husband has watched the color checker video and we have only to make it now. Once again thanks a bunch, Lee :)

I think everyone is different in what a good home studio would be for them. I have a window in my room. Not so sure I would want to paint surrounded by all that black. It would depress me! I like my natural lighting as it reflects how the painting will actually look in a regular room when finished.

I agree, all black nd dark would drive me nuts. But I see why for sure. I'm going to try and do something to darken my studio but make it movable.

I'm with you, TT. I used to have an indigo massage studio, rose quartz bedroom, and the co-op art studio I'd joined had pale gold walls in the studio and classroom areas, and medium forest green in the front gallery. Black would be too much for me.

Well thank you for that informative studio lighting primer. Now I simply have to blow out my garage ceiling as the attic adds an extra 7 feet of potential height for mounting light fixtures. My lovely wife already thinks I'm nuts for putting our two cars outside and in their place, arranging my easels, rolling palette tables, rolling chairs and other studio eratta. This is getting expensive but I can wait to receive your brush holder as that tool does not involve demolition. Cheers

Your video style is like a star. I like your studio atmosphere. It is very particular and worthy of respect. Of course, what is important is your painting, and your explanation. When the weather is bad, I will try to paint like you. Because, when the weather is good, I prefer to go out and travel, and when I travel, I will paint, and this kind of happy feeling will be enjoyed by the audience.

Massive Paintings, I wonder what years 20 years, if more and more people are going to downsize, not be so burden with the UP keep, and HIGH costly TAXES, will be going smaller. Shadow box LOVE that Idea. I still have not made mine. Still trying to arrange my room to be my sleep area and studio. At moment have LOTS of tender plants I put out doors, but inside. Problem is the room has only ONE outlet. TRYING to figure how to extend and have it safe. I rent . Material Space savers have any? ROOM is 7x7Ft. on window and one door, and Full bed size. . Use as my chair, and Slip under for table that is used for paint, brushes. paper toweling. but still feel cramped.

This is so timely. I've been painting with a window of light behind me and its really been messing me up. I shift in my seat and the glare is reduced by my blocking the light and I suddenly realize that the painting doesn't look how I thought! Thanks for this.

You showed the ceiling light several times, but not in place on the ceiling... I still don't know where exactly to place the light to be sure I do not have shadows cast across my canvas as I paint.
I'll take a look at your other videos, perhaps you address this independently in another post... Thanks :-)
PS My challenge is finding a set up for a temporary studio, ie, using props to modify a room for a few weeks to paint there, but easy to break down when I leave... After ai see if I can find a separate video on lighting, I'll see what I can come up with using the tips you share here.
    Great channel, thanks!

Not sure how I'll set up with out a studio. I'd planned just a corner of a room but now I'll have to consider lights and dark. Any tips will be appreciated.

Hello again: hope all is well~you and your family safe in the crazy times. I have finally gotten in the house and trying to create a studio out of the area inside instead of a finished building on the property (was not able to finish that out).
Which leads me to another decision to make a studio inside.
I’m going to switch to less toxic Geneva paints.l
If you would be able to advise on that .

WHO ever heard of black walls, artificial light in a studio, and having to wear black while painting? IN all those paintings on the wall in the background of this video, one can see an overwhelming amount of dark blackness in each painting; even my husband sees that, and he is not artistically inclined. The cause of that is the fact of the black walls, the artificial light= BLACKNESS dominating the paintings. If you look at Bouguereau's work, Marguerite Delorme, or even Monet, or Cassatt, NONE of those artists' works have that, because they had LIGHT FILLED STUDIOS and whitewashed walls! SIMPLY SAID! FOLLOW the great artist of the past and you will NOT have overall blackness come out in your paintings, which looks ridiculous. Kimberly, artist

      1. Is it true? (Yes, you are a dick)
      2. Is it necessary? (Yes, you probably don't KNOW you are a dick. Also, the non-dick population should be alerted)
      3. Is it kind? (No. Well, yes, but only to non-dicks)
Therefore I am not going to post a reply here.
