0:40 *according to my spirit guide, this is EXACTLY how this song was intended to be channelled/sung/acted (canadian cast nailed it)- the phantom would've sounded leo-ish and christine is psychically channelling him. its a real psychic phenomenon*
1. Ramin. Has such great control and plays the role perfectly in the 25th. I would sell my own soul to have his talent. 2. Crawford. Such a ghostlike presence and and the perfect person to start the legacy of that role. 3. John Owen Jones. Beautiful.
I just can't dig Crawford. Respect him for originating the role and I understand the ghostly presence he gives, but I need the Phantom to have some weight behind the voice, some power. He's such a dominating figure, not just a ghostly one. Agree completely with Ramin & John, I put Warlow there too but might just be because of Australian bias haha.
@@troyvirgona8738 Crawford's power is not always in his strength though, it's in the feeling and emotions he puts in his singing. Power doesn't always come from force. I personally prefer a less vociferous, strong, forceful Phantom if they are able to move me to tears, which MC has done better than anyone. That being said, we all have our tastes.
Michael Crawford will always be the best phantom for me, and when he sang this song with Rebecca Caine, my heart exploded. They're perfect together, I wish there was a clip of them singing this song
God I love this character. You can interpret the phantom in so many different ways, no actor plays this character quite the same. Ramin Karimloo struck me as a 'Haunted angel of music' type phantom while Micheal Crawford was more of a 'mysterious ghost' that really added to the mystery of the opera house. Gerald Butler leaned more into the 'Don Juan' aspect of the character, which made sense as he is one of the more handsome versions of the character. I dunno, I just love the phantom in all his forms.
no one had the conviction in their voice like Colm Wilkinson did and had the seduction like Rebecca did. Rebecca's voice was just amazing! Even her ending on Think of Me was one of the best I've ever heard. These were the people I saw in Toronto when I first saw the play and was mesmerized ever since!
Anthony Warlow is the greatest Phantom. Not only is his voice miraculous, but his movements, gestures and stage presence are unbeatable. Watch the little thing he does with his fingers at 1:35, and the way he extends his hands to Christine at 1:48. So powerful, sensual and magnetic. He had the perfect mixture of power and vulnerability in the Phantom's character.
Warlow treated the role as though he was singing Verdi... There is such amazing breath control, depth and passion in his voice. I am convinced that this is how the Phantom is supposed to be sung. I have nothing against the other actors playing them. In my mind, this is how I imaged the Phantom to sound like.
I had a Phantom comparison comp playing in the background as I was doing chores one day. His was the only voice to make me stop what I was doing and think "now who was *that?"*
out of all of them, i definetily have to say, Crawfrod and Sarah. the best. but i have to say, since i saw it on broadway with Hugh Panaro, he is my second favorite
My favorites are JOJ, Warlow, and Panaro. This is my favorite line in this particular song. Thanks for putting this together. It allows us to check out footage from other casts!
The way Hugh sings "you always knew..." gets me every time! They all have such a wonderful voice though... and they bring something different to the part. Excellent video. I must say though... Gary Mauer should have been a part of this :)
Where did the video of Ramin and Gina come from?! I wish they made a movie with them in it. Ramin and Gina are by far the best in my opinion. Sierra is a very close second
1.- Michael Crawford. I find his voice really seductive. 2.- Ramin Karimloo, my second favorite phantom. 3.- John Owen-Jones, almost in the same place than Ramin haha.
Panaro and McGillin in my opinion were the best. I loved Panaro's strong voice. To me, the Phantom's voice should be more dominant and forceful than Christine's and I feel they did that.
Awesome performances! Thanks for posting this. I love watching these comparison videos. I have never seen POTO on stage. It is now an item on my bucket list!
Amen! Finally.and to those who said wobbily-colm is being emotive(expressing his emotions). That is what separates good performers from great performers.Nancy Costello.
@bcm4134 Totally agree! His voice melts me into a tiny little puddle. He is THE most amazing singer to have ever existed. *blissful sigh* I love Ramin, too. Very nearly as much. But Anthony takes the cake. And my heart.
That's true. But whoever sings this beautiful and haunting music certaintly are very good at what they do.They always seem to give me goosebumps.Nancy Costello.
Did not watch video while listening to it. One voice stood out. When i checked whose voice was it, lo and behold it was Ramin's. So powerful but beautiful. That sealed it. He has the best Phantom voice for me.
sometimes i wonder how colm wilkinson landed the part...i know he performed at Sydmonton, but Andrew said, "Yeah, we usually had stars we weren't expecting to ever perform...Colm was a rare case." : )
Based on audio alone: Panaro (the way he says "fantasies"... OMG) and Wilkinson (hate his voice in most PotO songs, but love it here) Based on acting alone: Crawford (agree with previous comment on how he prowls around the stage) and Wilkinson (love how he prowls around the stage as well) with honourable mention to Warlow, but because he overdoes it with the punting... like, I can't stop focusing on that damn pole.
That good sir was colm wilkinson. He performed phantom in toronto. He was supposed to originate the role in London, but at the time was playing Jean Valjean in Les Mis.If you ever get the chance to see him,do.He is probably one of,if not best stage actors you will ever see.Nancy Costello.
Favorite Phantoms are 1) Michael Crawford he has an amazing voice and made the roll what it is. 2) JOJ has the best power and range in his voice I have ever heard! 3) Ramin Karimloo he has got a great voice to, and really brings a dangerous edge back to the Phantom Favorite Christines are 1) Gina Beck definitly the best acting I have ever seen from someone playing Christine she makes me really feel for Christine 2) Sierra Bogess def my second favorite actress and she has such a lovely voice!
I can't understand why some people dislike Colm Wilkinson, but love Ramin Karimloo.Colm was ramins inspiration when he decided to become an actor. They are all good, very good or excellent at what they do.This is a very emotional and physically demanding role.(I wonder those who make rude comments,do they do this for a living?)Probably not.Nancy Costello.
Crawford has that ghostly voice, hugh with that sexiness, while Ramin with his powerful voice, Norm is v deep so it kinda describes the phantom's mysterious background, and Ben crawford for his backstage goofiness. I also like Ben Lewis ^^
My favorite Phantoms: Michael Crawford, and Ramin Karimloo. (JOJ is starting to grow on me though I haven't heard him much.) My favorite Christines: Sarah Brightman and Sierra Bogges.
I just saw Phantom of the Opera on April 25th with my chorus. It was my first time in New York and I had an amazing time. I fell in love with Hugh Panaro's voice and Trista Moldivan's (Christine Daae) voice was gorgeous! It stinks though because I can't find any performances from the two on RUclips or on any torrents.
#1 Michael Crawford - so seductive and just nailed this role - some of them seem to be overacting a bit too much for my taste #2 Anthony Warlow - also very seductive and a beautiful voice...
I'm Australian, so I am biased as hell, but I do love Anthony Warlow as Phantom :-) JOJ is great also IMO. But what I really want to see is a combo of some of the international Phantoms/Christines - give me Anthony Warlow (Australian)/Rebecca Caine (Canadian), Elisabeth Berg (Swedish)/Henk Poort(Dutch), Joke de Kruijf(Dutch)/JOJ(London), Mikael Samuelson(Swedish)/Ana Marina(Australian)...or any combo of the above (and others too)...then we'd really hear/see something awesome! :-D
I love Hugh because he was my first Phantom and i saw him with Sierra twice including the 25th Broadway production. They are my favorites overall but i adore Ramin also with Sierra. I also like Hugh and Trista because she was Christine the first two times i saw it. :)
IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER: My favorite phantoms are Michael Crawford, Ramin Karimloo, and John Owen Johns. My favorite Christines are Sarah Brightman, Sierra Boggess, and Gina Beck.
Wow! Am I the only one who noticed how different the later London versions are in terms of orchestration? The electric guitar sounds really prominent, and I'm pretty sure the U.S. tour didn't, and Broadway doesn't, use the electric guitar at all. I'm not sure what to think about it -- in a way it's a cool, rock sort of sound, but it's very close to over the top, in my opinion. Anyway, great video! I've seen John Cudia, Hugh Panaro, and Howard McGillin live. It's very hard to choose a favorite
I suppose everyone has their favorite Phantom and that's okay, it's a matter of who appeals to you more. this is not a contest people i think everyone's favorite is correct and a matter of opinion. all gentlemen played the role well, so i'll share my opinion in the spirit of good sportsmanship. I have to say that in body and hand jesters and voice my favorite is Ramin Karimloo,Then my second choice is Colm Wilkinson. in the role of Raoul Hadley Fraser and Michael Ball. Christine sierra Boggess.
Personally, John Owen-Jones is my all-time favorite Phantom. But I consider Hugh Parano to be his American counterpart, even though they have totally different voices. I love Ramin to death, but I liked him as Raoul more. Then we have Anthony Warlow: PHENOMENAL. I love everything about his voice. Michael is the original, but I don't really feel like his voice is fit for the role. JOJ wins my vote. Always.
I've always adored the way Anthony Warlow sings that particular line and compared to all all the others I liked his take on it the best. It's just so sensual.
Also in the 2004 movie Gerard Butler nave sang this line which in my opinion is the best line in the main title song POTO. Which is one of my biggest gripes about that movie. So we really cant compare it to the others. And Michael is by far the best phantom on this list.
@keeny2006 haha i think voice is amazinggg my favorite phantom, i gotta admire him lol. makes me sad sometimes to be a bass baritone :P ... ramin is a honorable mention too... and juan carlos point of no return is cool too :)
I personally like both Ramin and Colm, but their vocal styles are completely different, so I can understand why someone might like one but not the other.

+Thaheera Althaf That's ramin!!!

who is that at 5:15? He's my favorite in this video.
Ramin Karmiloo
5:15 ♥
All phantoms have their merits, but Ramin is my angel of music
Instead of comparing phantoms, i think michael crawford and sarah brightman's voices blends the best...
God I love this character. You can interpret the phantom in so many different ways, no actor plays this character quite the same. I love "batsh*t insane barely keeping it together under the suave exterior" phantoms.
Sierra for Christine and either Michael or Anthony for Phantom.
no one had the conviction in their voice like Colm Wilkinson did and had the seduction like Rebecca did. Rebecca's voice was just amazing! Even her ending on Think of Me was one of the best I've ever heard. These were the people I saw in Toronto when I first saw the play and was mesmerized ever since!
Yeah, I always felt the seductiveness in theirs, which is interesting considering all the unfortunate drama.
when I heard Colm Wilkinson all I could picture was Jean valJean as phantom ^_^
Michael Crawford all the way for me. Can't really get better than the original. The others are great, but Crawford's voice seems more Ghostly.
+++
I totally agree with you 100%
I agree, Michael is, as I've said before, the quintessential Phantom!
1. Michael Crawford.
2. Ramin Karimloo
3. JOJ
Anthony Warlow is the greatest Phantom. Not only is his voice miraculous, but his movements, gestures and stage presence are unbeatable. God it's sad I immediately knew which one is Ramin
No it isn't! IT'S AWESOME!!!
Me too yikes
omg me too
It's not hard
same lol

Excellent video. I must say though... Gary Mauer should have been a part of this :)
Ooh, I saw Gary Mauer live with his wife opposite him.
That dynamic was absolutely incredible!
My Sarah Brightman and my Michael Crawford 😍😍😘😘
out of all of them, i definetily have to say, Crawfrod and Sarah. the best.
No contest;
MIchael Crawford. Best tone, legato and vibrato.
2 favorite Phantoms: Ramin and JOJ
2 favorite Christines: Sierra and Gina Beck
Colm & Rebecca... by far the best. All the rest sound the same to me. Colm has that sexy strong manly voice. I absolutely LOVE it...!!!
yesss colm is amazing
Ramon! No question.
Michael is by far my favorite
Where did the video of Ramin and Gina come from?! I wish they made a movie with them in it. Ramin and Gina are by far the best in my opinion. Sierra is a very close second

Michael Crawford :)
I like Ramin, his beautiful voice and great acting make him the best phantom. In the 25th anniversary he was amazing, there's no comparison possible.
ramin and sierra 25th
Gimme a break
sawadee It was an awesome performance with chemistry unseen anywhere else. Forgive us for liking it.
Panaro and McGillin in my opinion were the best. I loved Panaro's strong voice. To me, the Phantom's voice should be more dominant and forceful than Christine's and I feel they did that.
my favorite phantom is gerard butler my 2d is ben lewis and my favorite christine is emmy rossum
Colm and Rebecca

I vote for Howard McGillin. He was amazing on Broadway.
Hugh and Ramin are my favorites

Ramin and JOJ !!!
Always loved Little/Raab together. Great Chemistry and vocal blend.
9 - THE BEST OF ALL!!!!!!! HIS VOICE IS SOOOO AMAZING!!! o.o
Howard's is at about 4:15. He's still my favorite, but there are a couple of good other Phantoms, too.
I love Sierra's hair, so beautiful ^_^
Ramin Karimloo ❤️
Crawford has that ghostly voice, hugh with that sexiness, while Ramin with his powerful voice, Norm is v deep so it kinda describes the phantom's mysterious background, and Ben crawford for his backstage goofiness. I also like Ben Lewis ^^
JOJ's singing and acting are amazing.
@AlcoFan2010 Personally I love Ramin Karimloo!
1. John Owen Jones 💗2. Ramin Karimloo 💖3. Colm Wilkinson (his voice gives me chills when he sings this part) ❤
My favorite Phantoms: Michael Crawford, and Ramin Karimloo. (JOJ is starting to grow on me though I haven't heard him much.)

@Melissayshiya I think 2005.
You should see it on Broadway! The current phantom (Hugh Panaro) really does the role justice :)
Ramin wins in my mind. His voice is so powerful and perfect. When he hits certain notes it make me want to cry because of how beautiful it is.
Hugh Panaro is by far my favorite
i love the emotion in his voice
he always seems near tears while singing
Anthony Warlow, John Owen Jones, John Cudia and Hugh Panaro put me into a trance every single time! (Sighs with happiness)
Enjoyed this video! All the best!!
I love Hugh because he was my first Phantom and i saw him with Sierra twice including the 25th Broadway production. They are my favorites overall but i adore Ramin also with Sierra. I also like Hugh and Trista because she was Christine the first two times i saw it. :)
1st phantom RK,2nd JOJ,3rd MC1st Christine RC,2nd Ssrah 3rd Gina/sierra1st couple RK&GB 2nd JOJ&sierra 3rd MC&sarah
JOJ and Hugh panaro are captivating! Love them, and sierra & Sandra are the best christines :D
I'm gonna go with JOJ as the absolute best. I love Ramin and Hugh, but JOJ has something that none of the others do.
Where did you get that footage of Ramin and Gina?
It's from the 2009 London trailer
That's from the 2008 London trailer
IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER:
My favorite phantoms are Michael Crawford, Ramin Karimloo, and John Owen Johns.

You know what? I think it’s time for a “Part 2!”
Ramin and Hugh are my favorite
I have 3 fave phantoms ramin karimiloo, john owen jones, earl carpenter and I also have 3 christines which are gina beck, sarah brightman, and marni raab
I've always adored the way Anthony Warlow sings that particular line and compared to all all the others I liked his take on it the best. It's just so sensual.
where were sierra and JOJ performing? that wasn't the Las Vegas production, was it?
Ramen is at 5:20 right? Hah if I was right then yeah I still like Ben Lewis and Gerard Butlers' voices better though
Hugh!Wait....Ramin!!! NYEH I LOVE YOU BOTH! STUFF IT! LOL
Ramin karimloo blows this competition out of the water. Instantly grabs your attention and keeps it.
I enjoyed all of these. I could also guess many of them before I looked into the description.
Michael the original Phantom is still the best. His voice is so seductive and mysterious yet still powerful.
@kijames3228 The third Phantom to sing is Anthony Warlow (my personal favourite ;D )
Also in the 2004 movie Gerard Butler nave sang this line which in my opinion is the best line in the main title song POTO. Which is one of my biggest gripes about that movie. So we really cant compare it to the others.
And Michael is by far the best phantom on this list.
@keeny2006 haha i think voice is amazinggg my favorite phantom, i gotta admire him lol. makes me sad sometimes to be a bass baritone :P ... ramin is a honorable mention too... and juan carlos point of no return is cool too :)
does the gerald butler version delete this line, yes?
I personally like both Ramin and Colm, but their vocal styles are completely different, so I can understand why someone might like one but not the other.
Colm and Rebecca were by far the best!
2:18 Idk who that is
