Huh. Quite a lot to think about there! Lots of great information, and it kinda makes me want to tug the oil pump out of my engine and tinker with it...
Also, something silly and fun to share with ya! Any time you drop something, it's a "Gravity Check!" Anytime something goes flying when you pick it up, it's a "Physics Check!" It makes those silly little mistakes we all make a bit more fun, and less frustrating. :-D

    Tony:
Funny thing, I just did this today for a 4.3 pump. I was shocked at how crappy the melling pump was!
Glad to see you back. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Building a 35c and want to "blueprint" the HV oil pump, it all makes sense but how do you remove the pressure plug and if you need to drill and pull it, where do you get the replacements? thanks for the informative videos

Damn Yankees port out the oil pump as well. You need to mention that the bypass spring MUST be removed prior to welding the pickup or the spring temper will be ruined. The anti chatter grooves give enough oil leakage past the rotors to smooth out the amount of energy needed to turn the pump. Since the oil pump is driven off the same shaft as the distributor this smooths out the motion of the distributor. Hence the anti chatter. Not a huge fan of the hv pumps anymore, On a small block ford I built for a friend I had no room for an oversized pan and ran a hv pump. At 7000 rpm it would pump the pan dry and seize the pump and "drill bit" the pump shaft! Installed a standard volume pump after rebuilding the lower end and never had that problem again.
