Gone are the days when a band can get on stage a play live and sound good without special effects, the horns, guitar, bass, and drums all sound awesome, and then you have the vocals to top it all off....real talent is a relic
I FEEL LIKE TODAYS ARTIST ARE MORE THAN CAPABLE TO BE ABLE GO MAKE MUSIC FROM THE HEART LIE THIS BUT SADLY THAT AINT WHAT PEOPLE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOUNGINS TODAY
Those were the days! Friday nights we would watch Midnight Special on NBC and afterwards turn to CBS and watch Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert! Live bands, real music, the 70’s were awesome!
Let me tell you something, to be a teenager living in Brooklyn in the 70's with this great music was some of the happiest times of my life!! The 70's and 80's gave such great music, the kids nowadays are listening to it as well.
Usually when a singer in a big band is holding a guitar, it's mixed way down. But listen to the crucial, funky lines George is laying down while he sings!
But check the lead guitar riff with George doing vocals at the same time. I never understood how it was possible to go in two directions like that--never mind the smiling and dancing!
Summer of 1976 i was 15 years young and man the music from funk to led Zepp , it was all so freaking cool . I still listen mostly to late 60s thru 80s sweet music to my ears :)
Midnight Special & Don Kirshner's! Man I wouldn't trade my era 4 all the gold in the world, I think it was something in the water. Music was so damn good even if the artist shitted it out, I feel so blessed 2 have experience true R&B plus Pure FUNK!. If I knew that the vibes sucked so bad in the future, I would've broken my time machine after the 90's, the next chapter is when the world ended & went 2 hell.
I couldn't agree with you more. Well said. I reminisce, and then shake my head, and wondered why music as whole has degenerated. What we are left with now are the good memories of that era of music and artistic greatness, which will never be duplicated.
Today's music can't hold a candle to music from back in the day and I wasn't even born when Brothers Johnson came on the scene, but I love their music.
I saw this band back in 1977 at the old Birmingham Town Hall, which had wicked acoustics.. OMG !!! George and Louis in particular turned the Town Hall into a Funketeers Paradise. Never been so happy! My friends and I danced all the way back home. SENSATIONAL! Loved them!!!!! Real Old School, proper music. Those really were the days.
Love It, Love It, Love It!!! Thank you sooooooo much for posting this video! I fondly recall this song being played on the radio back in the mid-70's ALL the time, on the way to the pool, at the skating rink, everywhere... the incomparable, beautiful, melodic "R & B" hits of that era, my FAVORITE era, for black music: late 60's through mid to late '70's--- back when "brothers" used to play REAL instruments (guitars, HORNS, drums, keyboards...), heartfelt vocals... laying down a REAL sound!
On this day in 1976 {April 25th} "I'll Be Good To You" by the Brothers Johnson entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart at position #88; and on July 4th it peaked at #3 {for 3 weeks} and spent 17 weeks on the Top 100 {and for 7 of those 17 weeks it was on the Top 10} And on June 6th it reached #1 {for 1 week} on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart... Between 1976 and 1981 they had only six records make the Top 100, but three of them reached the Top 10 {the other two were "Strawberry Letter 23" at #5 in 1977 and "Stomp!" at #7 in 1980}...
They, made my teenage years happy.i love this group and this song is very beautiful and special to me. It's very dear to my heart. I will always love brothers Johnson.
Jane Wilson this my address 1702 Scobey ave .Donna Tx 78537 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁Do you still have their autograph maybe we can work something out they were ,are my favorite all time duo #2 is Hall & Oates much love from above John 3:16.
man we really took this era for granted. so much talent out then that this song probably didn't crack the top ten. Stevie,Barry, Isaac, E.W.F, The Ojays, Roberta Flack..... and on and on...
THIS KIND OF MUSIC MAY NEVER COME AGAIN,THERE ARE NO MORE REAL INSTRUMENTS,HARDLY A HAND FULL OF COMPOSERS LEFT IN THE GAME,SO WHAT WE HAVE HERE IS AN INDUSTRY THAT HAS SLOWED DOWN OR DIED BECAUSE OF LACK OF ARTISTRY OR IMAGINATION AS TO WHAT REAL MUSIC SHOULD SOUND LIKE.PERSONALLY I THINK THE BEST DECADE FOR MUSIC WAS THE SEVENTIES HANDS DOWN,SO WITH THAT BEING SAID, MUCH LOVE & RESPECT TO THE ARTIST OF THAT ERA,YOU CHANGED THE WORLD AND OUR LIVES WITH YOUR SONGS.
Anthony Man Cave - It is beyond beautiful! It is oh-so sexy on George, who was already too damn sexy then, but the fro made him even more sexy, if that was even possible. Listen to this beautiful man sing the first few words of this song - smoldering!
Indeed! I love that fros are back and that every other person on TV now is biracial. I was always ashamed of my ethnic frizz/curls, but now I let my freak flag fly, proudly! Hey, at 51 I'm finally feeling comfy as myself!
The Brothers Johnson...(George and Lewis) were the original rhythm section of the Great Quincy Jones...Great Funk Band...and major competition to any other Funk band of the Early, to middle 70´s...I love the sound...
Sing about love not killing!!!!I miss my era
It was a respectful generation ❤❤❤
Some of you aren't old enough to remember Midnight Special, but boy was it good
Yep I used to sneak and watch after my parents went to bed. ☺️🤭🤭🤭🤭
You ain't never lied a day in your life. All the way live.
I watched it too! 😊
Yes it was.
❤❤❤
Boys and girls, those are REAL singers, REAL instruments, and REAL afros!!
When talent was necessary!
@@snoops5581: and, FEELING - just SO much of it.....
💯 🎉
Oh I know because I was 11 years old when this came out
I'm 71 now, I can't move to any other Groove...damn! This is sweet, raw talent...
The 70s those were the times long gone, George fro was as big as a house. This was one bad band that put out some terrific sounds🥰🥰🥰
I'm 41 and I grew up on Brothers Johnson music. I'm a huge funk, jazz, soul fan espof 70s and 80s bands.
I'm 61 and still into this! 😊
This is when music was music and you had to have talent
Gone are the days when a band can get on stage a play live and sound good without special effects, the horns, guitar, bass, and drums all sound awesome, and then you have the vocals to top it all off....real talent is a relic
So true
Because Satan Is In Charge Of All Things Media/Music /News/Movies All Demonic

This was the "Golden Age" of funk music !!
It wouldn't have been the summer of '76 without this song.
RIP Louis Johnson. Thank you for sharing your gift of music with all of us.
🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
...and what a gift it was
ABSOLUTELY!
Those were the days! Friday nights we would watch Midnight Special on NBC and afterwards turn to CBS and watch Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert! Live bands, real music, the 70’s were awesome!

THIS IS A GOOD SONG TO LISTEN WHEN YOU’RE DOWN. BARS! 😀😀
Let me tell you something, to be a teenager living in Brooklyn in the 70's with this great music was some of the happiest times of my life!! The 70's and 80's gave such great music, the kids nowadays are listening to it as well.
I’m a 93 baby and I’m here
One of the great FUNK/JAZZ fusion bands of all time. Real music played by real musicians.
and Rock
Me too. My fav is Strawberry Letter 23. LOVE IT!!!!
Wasn't into soul, (Zeppelin, KISS, Elton, GFR) but I loved this song, and Strawberry Letter 23 were my favorites.
Thunder thumbs and Lightening Licks. Baddest bass player I ever saw in concert! St Louis 1980.
Often imitated, underrated, yet never duplicated, thank you Brothers Johnson !
R.I.P. Louis. Thank you for the music.
The 70s afros funk and good weed can't beat it
Every time I hear this song, I’m 5 yrs old and it’s my family reunion in Syracuse NY
1 of my favorite bands growin up as a pup n Dat time 😊👍
One of the best of that era and all time!!! Love this song.
One of the most under rated bands. Loved them.
Back in the old days good music ❤❤
fantastic brothers johnson
This is the most underrated R&B act ever.
THEY WENT INTERNATIONAL. THE LEAD MAN" Louis Johnson " ON BASE PLAYED ON A LOT OF ALBUMS. STUDIO PLAYER AS WELL.
Paul Hogue

I agree

Pure old school funk. When artists knew how to sing and play.
And used real drums and bass
Usually when a singer in a big band is holding a guitar, it's mixed way down. But listen to the crucial, funky lines George is laying down while he sings!
The bass line holds it all together, and leads the melody.
But check the lead guitar riff with George doing vocals at the same time. I never understood how it was possible to go in two directions like that--never mind the smiling and dancing!
i miss that music
Loved the Brothers Johnson ... had a crush on Louis the originator of the thumping bass playing. I'm so sorry he passed on.
Larry Graham did it shortly before he did and Stanley Clarke adapted it around the same time
How Badassssss they were! Miss them...
Talented group! Everyone actually playing their instruments, with lyrics that you can actually understand.... Priceless! Unlike today...... Lol
70s R&B is the best music freaking EVER!
EVER!
Oh YEAHHHH!!
RIP Louis Johnson.
One of my all time faves from the 70’s! 🤗
Those are freaking men demonstrating true soul and musicianship. Not a punk in the group.
I hear you, those brothers looked good, poised, and happy.
Summer of 1976 i was 15 years young and man the music from funk to led Zepp , it was all so freaking cool . I still listen mostly to late 60s thru 80s sweet music to my ears :)
I LOVED this song when it came out in 76. One of the most awesome bass lines to ever open a song.
Midnight Special & Don Kirshner's! Man I wouldn't trade my era 4 all the gold in the world, I think it was something in the water. Love The Brothers Johnson!
I couldn't agree with you more. Well said. I reminisce, and then shake my head, and wondered why music as whole has degenerated. What we are left with now are the good memories of that era of music and artistic greatness, which will never be duplicated.

My brothers were so beautiful and soulful back then. Whatever happened to that?
We were leaner too.
What ever happened to Al Green?
He's a minister.
Music was deliberately corrupted, that's one reason why the Brother's Johnson got out of the game..
Rap
Remember when my stepmom bought this song for us ❤❤
OMFG...I soooooo LOVE them!!..
i;m a white Irish dude form the southside of chicago and i love this

Thunder Thumbs and Lighting Licks debut hit! What a duo they were.
I love this song
They bounce together like a funk band should. Groove personified!
They're probably keeping time like that.
...and we do the same, watching at. ADMIT IT ! :)
That’s because everything is on the 1.
THAT'S just how we (black people) groove.
There is nothing like old skool music 😍😍😍😍😍
RIP Louis "Thunder Thumbs" Johnson - you will always be remembered
🌟AWESOME 🌟
Oh the memories !! The Brothers Johnson's music really got me through some rough times.
音楽、テンポ、ノリ、服、髪型、時代感、すべてがいい!
