Exactly! The "Golden Era" of R&B. The instrumental music always set the mood and emotions even before the first vocal was sung. Prime examples, The Spinners" song, "How Could I Let You Get Away", and Billy Paul's " How Could I Let You Get Away". Check it Out! Ciao!!!
I am an old white lady who was married to a black man for 30 years and 2 days. These were the words he said to me when we separated when we signed divorce papers. We were bestfriends the last couple years of his life. I still miss the sound of his voice.
The harmony is just so incredible. There will never be music made like this again. We were so blessed to have been exposed to the best. Happy Friday 🥳 Thank you for sharing! 💖 Happy Holidays! 🎄✨️🎁🦌🎅🤶🧑🎄
@Stephanie_Jeanne You seem to be so fan of special midnight as much as I do! Always commenting. Really the midnight is very good! I hope you and your family have a Merry Christmas! Michel, RS, Brazil
Imagine a band with 7 Top 10 hits, of which 6 of those were Top 5 with a #1 hit, selling over and yet, you never hear much about their contribution to the Rock era. Grew up loving every one of their hits.
The last surviving member passed away February 7 at age 85 a bit sad, but so many great songs back in the day could it be I’m falling in love is a personal favorite
This takes me back to being a kid. The 70's baby were alive. You can listen to any station on your radio and there would be a hit playing. Today i turned 60 and rejoice in my childhood and the music of the era.
This proves it. Life was better in 1973 -- way way way better better better. All were happier! And nobody was staring at phones back then either. We were living it up!!!!!
The great Louis Shelton on guitar! He played on Valerie and Last Train to Clarksville by the Monkees, all the Seals and Crofts hits (because he also produced them), Lowdown by Boz Scaggs and Hello by Lionel Richie, just to name a few.
Incorrect. That's Norman Harris on lead guitar (SIP). Possibly Bobby Eli on rhythm guitar (SIP). Thom Bell (SIP) exclusively used MFSB on the recordings. Now the road band it could vary.
An all time favorite group and song for me. Every decade in music had its greatness, but there was something magical happening in the 70’s in my opinion.
I’ve always loved this song. It’s nearly perfect. I’ll bet that Phillip Bailey was a big fan of “The Spinners.” I saw Earth, Wind and Fire a couple times and I think Phillip performed the first time. But the second concert, on the pier in Seattle (?) he was retired but in the crowd. But it was like Phillip took what the Spinners did and ran with it, and added that incredible falsetto. But when Bailey retired it was a sad day.
Did you hear it?!?! There’s either an extra note in the “I’ll be around” harmonies or it’s just more forward in this mix.. but WOW! It’s like the flatted seventh or the upper octave.. or something! Whatever it is, I am awake now and will be listening to this at least a thousand more times today! 🎶 One of my all time favorites just got better! Thank you Midnight Special!!
By “musicians” I’m guessing you’re referring to the singers? The lush backing track with strings and harpsichord is most likely a pre-recorded track from the original sessions or a special version (less likely in this instance) recorded for this and other television appearances. According to Wikipedia, this iteration of The Spinners included: Henry Famborough - baritone Pervis Jackson - bass Billy Henderson - tenor/baritone Philipeé Wynne - lead tenor Bobby Smith - co-lead tenor with the lead singer in this performance being Bobby (aka Bobbie) Smith (born Robert Steel Smith, April 10, 1936) Credits on recordings by Philadelphia producers like Thom Bell and Gamble & Huff can be difficult to pinpoint as often some producers preferred to work with the same voices in the studio and credits would later be arbitrarily assigned to the touring musicians, hired only to perform the songs. Not sure if that’s what you were looking for. This combination clearly was capable of producing magnificent melodies and heavenly harmonies!
@@kevin6667 Singers are singers and musicians play instruments The musicians on that album were known as Mother Father Sister Brother. Studio musicians from Sigma Sound. The backbone to every Gamble Huff hits of the 70’s. Look them up if you want to know who they were individually I knew a couple of them. Great guys.
@@RetroMusicMan369 where were you when I was working in a CD store, fielding questions from people with zero musical knowledge to grammy winning artists - asking questions like “I’m looking for the song by the singer who sings like the wind?” and in that time I learned not to be too judgmental about the specific terms they used as everyone was coming from their own history of musical education. While I appreciate you pointing out the difference between musicians and singers, in my personal case it’s unnecessary. It’s great that you know that the recording they were performing to was recorded at Sigma and they certainly had an impressive roster on hand in the early 70s. After watching documentaries like Standing in The Shadows of Motown, The Wrecking Crew and the very recent Immediate Family and others, often times the musicians themselves don’t necessarily have 100% accurate recall as to who was who or where on particular sessions.
Nothing like this, to make me feel GOOD and put a smile in my Soul. A time when singers Could and actually Would SING LIVE on a tv show! Now it’s all lip-syncing, and autotune garbage. Nothing currently on the charts, will ever be as good, or have the lasting power this song has had. 💜😉
Sigo st 2024 escuchando mi bella calidad de musica q fue es y sera parte de mi vida lo q mas amo mis hijos mis nietos mi bisnieto y mi musica muchas gracias x compartir

If you ask members of R+B groups like the Spinners what took them off the radio, they will often say it was DISCO. So, there you have at least one good reason to hate Disco!
As an angst teenager of the 70’s used to have a t-shirt that said Disco Sucks in yellow letters. Lmao. My mom hated that t-shirt along with my Black Sabbath album Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. She thought I was going down the wrong run. Now we can laugh about them days as I’ve turned into a respectable citizen. 😂
Naw not me, the only time I listened to Disco was at the skating rink cause they piped it in over the PA system and that’s been forty five Donna Summer years.
There isn't much better than late 60's to mid 70's American R & B.
Amen

We need a time machine, to go back to the 60s, my childhood, was the greatest. Westside of Chicago, during the early 70s. Lol.
This may be the one of the greatest live versions of this song, Bobby Smith at his peak on vocals and dancing steeps.
Love is too-fantastic choreography, they move so smooothly and the “ voice’s “ oh my… am feeling “things” with this performance.
Such a timeless of real soul music whos watching in 2024....

Once in a lifetime. So precious! Looking back, those that were there and experienced the '70s first hand know what an incredible time it was.
Amen, to that!😉
Started in the 60’s, then 🚀!! 🎶❤️💃
Rest in peace to all of them 😢…
They are all gone! Wow! 😞

By most people's standards, this isn't rock music. In the 70s when it came out, it'd be a soul tune or pop tune.
@@flazjsg "Hot punk, cool funk....even if it's old junk, it's still rock & roll to me" - Billy Joel
They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame earlier this year.🎉
Luckily one of the original Spinners, was able to acknowledge for the late members their entry into the Rock and Roll Hall of fame.
Saw them at Disneyland back in the day 💜🎵😁
It's always nice to know that The Midnight Special will be forever around to deliver quality content like this.
We never new how good we had it. Wish we could go back 3:37

I suppose we all "bowed out gracefully" a few times along the way.
