Hi Glen. Your dream is very similar to mine but your execution is spectacular. We found 2.6 hectares in ZdN and negotiated a great price. Filled with coconut trees which produce a modest income and we'll put in a lot of fruit trees. Just finished putting up a temporary bamboo house, and have completed plans for dream home... BUT... turned out we have to scale the house way back because they cannot bring in heavy equipment over the connecting bridge. You and your wife have done an absolutely beautiful home.
This is one of the most inspiring videos of the Philippines that I have watched. I want to live up in the mountains where it is cooler for sure. I am a builder and I must say that Glen's vision and planning is very impressive!
What an incredible interview! Glen is truly inspiring. Managing his healthcare needs while completing his dream home must be quite the balancing act, but he seems to have it figured out. He’s definitely a man full of tenacity!

Glenn and Ruby's story is truly inspiring, especially for those pursuing dreams later in life, embracing the opportunities granted by God. It also highlights the importance of finding a genuine, committed woman who stands by you until the end of the journey, uncorrupted by the modern world. Many of us touched by their story live as shepherds, not mere consumers, and it is uplifting to know there is a place where wisdom and life experience are valued by women like Ruby, with the 'breadwinner' character Glenn so lovingly described. Hello watching here from Iloilo City my Paradise ...I am leaving here in Àrevalo, Iloilo City alongside the beach. THEY call it Villa Beach before...For me I was raised in a farm and being as a a farmland girl ...I used to live in having enjoying making a vegetable garden..an flower garden...Yes you have to emerge life in the local people... You will really appreciate a life ...its a Paradise here living in the Iloillo City.
I wish to have a husband like him. He manage all the construction and knows a lot. I have land but I dream only alone. But I don’t want also to retired at my 60’s as I live abroad. So I go home to plant my farm every year as I can. Kudos for a Filipina she is very serious on her relationship and very caring. She know a lot for farming and very passionate ❤
The house is big and nice, but I hope the kids will grow to appreciate more the garden and gardening, and just everything and anything that they're able to enjoy doing, or the things that are available to them outside of their house and just within their property. Again, the house is surely going to look stunning both inside and outside. But I think even the most beautiful house that eyes can see will be quickly forgotten with just a simple glimpse outside through the window, it's just stunning, stunning.
Get that gardening girl several cases of mason jars and a book on how to put up fruits vegetables and even meat.. you would never run out of fresh vegetables and always have them at your fingertips of any kind that you wanted when you wanted them for your meals..😊
I’m with you on canning vegetables, however, I don’t know if it would be necessary as there may be a good growing season most of the year, or perhaps all year long being in the tropics.
What a great interview...Such value-content as always. You guys shared so much candid conversation, I feel like I'm a part of the family...lol We are praying for your guest to have a full recovery, as we need him around to continue creating awesomely amazing sustainable environments...We love you all, stay well, and may the MOST HIGH YAH continue to keep and bless you in all your endeavors. 1-💜to you and your family-tree. 💯% 🙏🏽
Great video for me to run across. I live near Dumaguete up in the mountains (at 2400 feet in elevation) between Dauin and Zamboanguita. These two are telling almost my exact story except for location. One difference is that I do have bars on the windows of our house for two reasons. One we sleep with our screened windows open at night and two because when you leave especially for several days or weeks someone might be tempted to steal your junk. In an area like this people do not have stoves, refrigerators, indoor plumbing or even water. safety is NOT an issue even at the end of the road 11 kilometers from the highway. Its very quiet and sometimes I get a little bored up here, 5 miles away from the closest foreigner. I just go into town for a coffee and pretty soon most of the foreigners remind me why i love the quiet of the mountain. Once your house and property is paid for you will struggle to spend $1000.00 per month for a wonderful life eating anything you desire. I also don't drink or chase the little girls (the two activities that drive your monthly spending way up). If you rent a nice western style house like ours it will add $600 - $700 a month easily to your budget. Crazy how close to our set up this couple has.😲
"so much better than living in a City" I agree Chrissy. I love what Glenn and Ruby are creating. The idea of a sustainable house and garden matches my dream. Using worm poop to create fabulous soil. Their house is way bigger than I would like, and I would prefer a bungalow style, but the big ideas are all the same. So, the question is, was Glenn serious about being adopted into the tribe to be able to access forest land? I would love to know more about that process, understanding that you don't own the land outright, at least for a period of time.
Hi Paul, thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Yes, both Glenn and Ruby were adopted into the tribe. I have another friend who also purchased land many years ago and by good fortune they built a road right along his land. He was also adopted into the indigenous tribe for that different try, possibly in future video we could talk more about it
@@FlyMeToThePhilippines thanks! I made my formal request to the company this past week to either just go remote, or to go remote and set up the company's first office in Asia. I expect it will take a while before I get an answer. Fingers crossed!

The good thing is the foreigner was have a lot of knowledge about businesses and good investment. The most important thing is a woman who has also a knowledge about good investment too. And, sadly to some foreigners that spending their money in the Philippines for leisure, fun and different women. Or, a foriegner that have a bad addiction to drigs and alcohol. No wonder some foriegner ends up broke in the Philippines. You really have to think wisely not only for investment, but also for choosing a woman beside you.
Tell this gentleman please about the RUclips channel “Natures Always Right”. That guy, Stephen, filmed 3 years in San Diego proving sustainability of making your own inputs and creating sustainable urban garden. And then he also fell in love with and learned and implemented Korean Natural Farming and moved to Tennessee in the USA and farmed sustainably there. Now he’s traveling the world (on a new channel under his personal name) interviewing sustainable farms. His wife is Korean. I think you’d love him bec he’s all about sustainability and sharing the knowledge and developing the systems so they are replicate-able, please tell this gentleman and Ruby abt that channel. I think they would love him. Also Stephen is a Believer.

$2000 a month to live comfortably... I wish.. I live quite decently on $1320 a month. Sure I could live better on $2000 but what you're putting out is subjective. We don't all need Rib Eyes and 6 hectares of land.
Hi from Oregon. Im about the same age, and had Afib heart problem. I think it happened from the heat in Leyte. I think I had heat stroke. Out of rhythm until I went to the er in Oregon. Hard to see a cardiologist for 3 months. Had heart failure at 30 percent. After 6 months of meds now back to normal. Don't have to see the cardiologist again. Use the Kardia mobile to check ekg. Nice property. Good way to go, don't have to depend on government, etc
often the healthy can have a major health issue and not be aware or accepting the clues. Fortunately, he has a good situation. I get a quarterly blood test and EKG to monitor my life lines. It cost less than 100 bucks for the check up. The home looks fabulous, obviously he is his own contractor and he has US construction and agriculture experience.
He is talking about Ejection fraction. Key is getting it back to the 50% range. Until then your essentially still in heart failure... Been there myself 3 years back, had angiogram, no stents required, meds for life.(blood thinners, etc) ..
You can pay extra to the hollow block maker to add more cement otherwise they’re pretty crumbly don’t skimp on the rebar either they like to use number nine which is like a pencil get half inch and three-quarter inch
Only thing missing to make it easy access for that new house would had been an elevator. Stairs are not friendly when getting older. I understand that he will have a bedroom on the main floor which is a good option. 😊 thanks for showing your setup of gardening and the construction of that beautiful house. 😅
Wow 😊, very interesting interview and hats off to Glen . He is definitely a creative and optimistic adventurer . I deliberately didnt call him a dreamer even though he has a creative vision that has been driving him to build his paradise on the hill. I admire his positive vibes but I am a bit worried about how he will cope with the steps and the incline as he gets older, because he stated that in his current state of health ,he isnt able to do much . I am wondering if a property on a flatter ground and a house without steps wouldn't be more suitable for him in the future? Ruby is a very lucky woman and I couldn't help but thinking that Glen must have a LOT of trust in her because technically foreigners cant legally own land in the Philippines and i have heard of so many horrow stories about foreigners building houses and then getting kicked out of them. But I suppose Ruby is a honest woman of integrity with a good conscience and high moral standards. What Glen is building is something that I wish i could do too, but on a smaller scale. I dont have half a million bucks to play with or 3K to live on monthly, but this has definitely given me a vision and an insight of what I could have in the future. I need to do some research, because I also would love to have a place in the Philippines with about 3 acres of land with a river running through the land and a nice house too( but not as big as Glen's) I retire in 5 years time from the UK and have never been to the Philippines, but I have spoken to a LOT of the wrong type of Filipinas on Cupid Filipina dating app. Unfortunately, I got scammed a few times, but now I have a much better idea of how many of the scams work and the mentality of the wrong type of Filipinas . I am going to start looking at fares and going to take the plunge. I am going to take a trip, rent a car and drive around and see what I find , learn and discover. I am not sure if there are trains or metros that can take me from Manila Airport to other Cities or towns..so if anyone reading this can tell me how to get around from the Airport, I would appreciate it. I saw in a video where the traffic is crazy like New York and that the taxi drivers can really try to rip you off. Seen a few videos of people taking boats to get to places , but I like trains and driving cars ( not fond of mopeds ) as ways of getting around. I am happy for a chat if anyone wants to chat . My WhatsApp is+447947657542 and I am on Facebook as Mark Con Smith, you can send me a message in messenger in there. Please dont send me a friend request without a message because I get a lot of friend request all the time, but I wont accept a friend request from someone that I haven't met in person unless they send me a message,so I knoe who they really are and why they are friend requesting me. Dont let that put you off though, i am a really friendly and chatty guy with a good sense of humour ans and I love meeting people, so I hope to hopefully hear from someone soon and if anyone knows of a honest, cute, intelligent Filipina without children, but wants kids in the future and loves farming and healthy living , I would love to hear about them. Thanks in advance 😊🙏🏾😊
Thanks for watching and taking time to share your thoughts. Flights are very inexpensive and the best way to get from point to be they do have fairies from Cebu City that go to many places and don’t take too long. The fairies from Manilla can take a long time.
For those of us that don't know, what are you referring to when you say land use rights? Is that private land you are leasing? Is it government owned land? What are the requirements to keep the land?
In most areas of Luzon the prices mentioned are ridiculous low. 30USD/sqm of farmland in Lipa are considered ok. In developed areas close to Manila we are talking about a lot more
@@telcslightingdesign2215 agreed. So many parts in Central Luzon they are asking 30,000Php /sm. That adds up quick and is not so different than California prices for the land.
@@factsmatter1262 the best thing to compare it to is the old USA homesteading laws. You purchase the right to use the land. If you continue you can acquire the title
Praying for you to get well. I have watched you for about a year. I married a Russian woman but she left me after her green card arrived. I got her out of Russia once war started.
I have the same plan but in Siquijor. Already have title. Hired a lawyer for all due diligence. Everything went smooth. But I’m still in LOs Angeles. Where are you?
@@dare2bda137 make sure you do your due diligence. You never know if they have relatives that can claim the title later. Cover all your bases. What annoys me is the notary. What a scam that is. Notary here is like $30 or something like that. It’s just a stamp. There they charge what 5 percent of the contract/ sale price. What a rip off.
You mentioned land use rights and the cost thereof. Wat is unclear to me is the length of time of the land use rights. Here in Thailand we have a similar system with the length of time being thirty years with a right of renewal for another thirty years.
As I understand it occasionally after many years, you have to file paperwork with the government offices, but not with the person who sold you the land

Sounds great!

Excellent mini-series and really nice couple. Great that the two of you got out of CDO and went walkabout 🙂
Glad you enjoyed it
Rob, great series and enjoyed. Hope very much that Glenn beats the odds and he is around for a long time to enjoy the place he is building.
Thanks for the positive feedback and I agree with the sentiment totally
Wow, that place is going to be humongous when it is done! Happy for them. ❤️ thnx for great video
So nice of you
The house is big and nice, but I hope the kids will grow to appreciate more the garden and gardening, and just everything and anything that they're able to enjoy doing, or the things that are available to them outside of their house and just within their property.
Again, the house is surely going to look stunning both inside and outside. But I think even the most beautiful house that eyes can see will be quickly forgotten with just a simple glimpse outside through the window, it's just stunning, stunning.
❤️👍
That was very interesting
Thank you, George

Get that gardening girl several cases of mason jars and a book on how to put up fruits vegetables and even meat.. you would never run out of fresh vegetables and always have them at your fingertips of any kind that you wanted when you wanted them for your meals..😊

I’m with you on canning vegetables, however, I don’t know if it would be necessary as there may be a good growing season most of the year, or perhaps all year long being in the tropics.

Hello👋🏻 Watching from Mindanao . Another beautiful story of Glenn and Ruby . Such an amazing series of interviews . What a lovely couple😊
Thanks for watching!
It's just amazing how this couple has this lovely home well planned and sustainable, too! My question is, how safe is it up there?
We discussed this during the video
@@Busy_as_a_Bea very safe after President Dueturte He made a big difference in the safety and security of Mindanao
amazing story
Many many thanks
that look real nice. do they have a plan or a break down of what they did and how they did it?
I’m sure they do. I just felt it might be a little intrusive to have them share more than they may be comfortable with.
Crazy how close to our set up this couple has.😲
Thanks for sharing Earl
Fingers crossed!

this is similar to what Marydel and I looked at in Malaybalay. 1 Hectare about 2500' and and amazing view. Although it's in a hill. We are taking to the owners for the last couple weeks. I'll send you a video of the view
that sounds fabulous. I would love to find something similar in Pampanga, Bataan or Benguet provinces.
Now I know what the video you sent me is up thank you
The good thing is the foreigner was have a lot of knowledge about businesses and good investment.
Thanks for watching and thanks for the good advice
A Modern ,organic, environmental friendly farm. Every retirees dreams. Hope there is no typhone
Not too much of a concern for this location
The brickwork is different than other PH houses, smaller denser bricks it looked like.
Yes, I believe he mentioned he had a friend that produced the bricks. It was a really nice look.

Take Hawthorn berries extract. And take 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne pepper daily. That’s what I do for my heart.

Hawthorne works to correct high and low BP also.
Barbara O'Neill recommends cayenne over warfin. I think the dosage is 2 tsp 3x daily.
@@RayH- I take 1 teaspoon daily of the cayenne pepper.
He is talking about Ejection fraction. Key is getting it back to the 50% range. Until then your essentially still in heart failure... Been there myself 3 years back, had angiogram, no stents required, meds for life.(blood thinners, etc) ..

Great interview guys. I love his vision for the place. What type of hollow blocks did they use here ?
Not sure perhaps Glenn will chime in
You can pay extra to the hollow block maker to add more cement otherwise they’re pretty crumbly don’t skimp on the rebar either they like to use number nine which is like a pencil get half inch and three-quarter inch
We used a brick made to fit together like Legos
Only thing missing to make it easy access for that new house would had been an elevator. Stairs are not friendly when getting older. I understand that he will have a bedroom on the main floor which is a good option. 😊 thanks for showing your setup of gardening and the construction of that beautiful house. 😅
Good point!
Glen you need to put the land into a company llc then put a lien against it from another llc offshore . Asap
Thanks for the suggestion and thank you for watching our video
I need to do some research, because I also would love to have a place in the Philippines with about 3 acres of land with a river running through the land and a nice house too( but not as big as Glen's)
I retire in 5 years time from the UK and have never been to the Philippines, but I have spoken to a LOT of the wrong type of Filipinas on Cupid Filipina dating app.
The fairies from Manilla can take a long time.

nice place. is this part of Ilo ilo?
45 minutes in the mountains from Cdo
For those of us that don't know, what are you referring to when you say land use rights? Is that private land you are leasing? Is it government owned land? What are the requirements to keep the land?
You buy the use rights from indigenous peoples- individuals- you need to improve the land, farm, and occupy as in guest house etc
