LOCKED INSIDE? - to address the hundreds of concerned viewers: “What if someone locked you inside?” First off... this was one of the first concerns I had as I planned this out. I had planned to purchase a pad lock to lock the outside latch in the UP position. However, even with a lock on the latch, the hook can still be hooked and latched with me inside. BUT... because I parked in a city street and I had a cellular device with PLENTY of service, I took my chances. If I had become latched in there... I could have easily called for someone to let me out. I was not concerned in the least bit. I KNEW I should have included this in the video itself. Shame on me.
haha at 13:12 you read my mind lol. I was thinking the same exact thing.. I am sitting in my car, with blanket on; heater running (kid is at sports practice for 3 hours...so most of the day I am living in my van..)
Agreed on lock on latch who cares, also putting a lock around the bar that gets the curl hook works also or cheap bike cable rapped around the hook bar part, let me know if you dont get what I am saying, you never want to be locking in, if you have to ax the roof its the thinnest way to get out.., never have another you in, also use some vise grips on the inside rails, use on wheels or at top, easy to unlock to get out, and also keeps out rif raf or po po.. good luck and keep warm, get some Styrofoam 4 x 8 sheets, to make a smaller cheap room in back cheaper to heat at night less propane use, and insulates, also 2 carbon monoxide detectors please, battery powered best to be alive so we can keep seeing ya in these videos.but i have had one fail on me.. best with two.... Life Well LIve Long Live how you want.. Be Smart.. thanks for sharing and helping others learn.. :) Happy Uhauling Bro Been there done that so have lots of tips if you need them...
Dude, I've totally done this exact thing on several occasions. As a mover, I drive these trucks everyday. Some trips take me many states away and sometimes its cheaper to rent local and return it rather than out of state drop off. So, lots of trips with empty truck on way back. To save money or just to be a weirdo, I would spend the nights in the back just as you did. Full on camp style. Door open most evenings overlooking awesome scenery, other evenings in a city with the door closed. My solution to keep people from latching me in...a pad lock directly on the little cross bar where the large hook latches. It keeps anyone from even being able to latch it, let alone lock it. Ratchet strap on inside is the best. Works like a charm. Great video! New sub.
I camp in my semi every night. Needless to say I have a fridge, microwave, coffee maker, George Forman grill, a rice cooker, oh and Seattle TV and stocked cabinets. Been at it for 20 years.
King Solomon at first I thought this was some kind of jab at truckers.. I was about to light you up stating truckers definitely work more than one day a year. Then I saw his pic. I think I’m going to take away a lesson from this
I'm a trucker. I have a TV, PlayStation, microwave, refrigerator, Keurig, ECT. I've been trucking for years and...This truck isn't my home. This truck I bought is to make money. Home is where my wife and kids are. I'm comfortable on the road, but the road will never compare to being at my house.
Such a perfect example of "when life gives you lemons, make lemonade"..... I love the perspective that you chose to make an adventure out of this situation rather than slipping into anger at life and/or victimhood. We have a choice in how we respond in every situation. Thank you for modeling this and for sharing your experience with us/me.
If he'd spent the night in a motel, he couldn't have made money. By making this video, he added to his income and described a fascinating experience. Pretty cool!
Many evenings when I got off work I would just stay parked in the employee parking lot. No reason to fight rush hour traffic to go anywhere, I have everything I need right there. While everyone else is fighting traffic and getting stressed out, I was sitting back eating dinner. I'd drive where I want after rush hour was over and the streets were clear and the driving was easy. Life can be good!
And, honestly, that's all it is, stuff. The more money people make, the more stuff they buy and consequently the more stuff they have to worry about someone stealing from them. Why have it in the first place? I lived in a small box truck and converted the 12' long box into a home on wheels. I had a shower, bed, overhead cabinets, closets, lights, microwave, tv, dvd player, sink, stove, everything I needed. Propane heat, toasty in winter. I enjoyed working for minimum wage yet living like a king. It was steak most night, even Red Lobster once in awhile. I traveled all over the U.S. for 14 straight years. Never needed a motel room. I could travel for the cost of food and gas. Went north in summer and south in winter. Now I'm a wage slave renting half of a duplex. Miss the easy life. Only time I could ever save money earning minimum wage. It's not ideal if you have kids but for a single man or a couple it's great.
It's always about the money. This guy isn't paying property taxes. Cities will run him off as he's seen as a leech taking advantage of city services but not paying for them. They will pass laws saying any number of things why they don't want urban campers from risk of disease, to blocking the road, etc. They will never just come right out and say it because they still want to look like they give a shit about the homeless.
most ppl are renters... not owners. from seattle...law makers r more preoccupied letting lester the molester free... sorry.. dual income economy full of single men of all races portrayed as too masculine, criminal or dangerous. you have this world.
Nah. Check other countries. You'll see ours is pretty damn good 🙂 And nobody wants to see a naked guy shaving in the back of a uhaul or step around people to go to the doctor/grocery store/etc It's why most people are moving FROM California, not to it. 🤣 Plus, for all the socialists out there.... Can't have socialism without higher taxes. How do you get higher taxes? Nickel and dime everyone where you can!
I was wondering why he had to hide at all. Even if someone saw him coming out of the van, no one is going to care. And if a Karen did appear, not like cops could get there fast enough to listen to her moaning. It's a camper van without the fancy stuff, so cops wouldn't even care. They'd just tell him to move on since it's not a camping zone.
God bless you sir, and I thank you most earnestly for your service ❣️ Please God, give JR all the comfort, peace and certain knowledge of Your Love, and I pray most earnestly that Jesus is your savior and you are working out your salvation with fear and trembling as the Bible tells us 🙏🏻✝️🙏🏻
When I was homeless for a year and a half(long story but my parents were Jehovah's witnesses and I wanted out). I had to live in my Honda prelude. Let me tell you that was the best time of my life. I still worked, had a car payment, and insurance. I could go to bed when I wanted, eat what I wanted, and most of all I loved the freedom. I miss my parents but that won't change.
Melissa, You are bold & courageous! Let's pray for you r family loved ones. Jehovah is real alive but He is NOT any religion. I would love to be your friend. Help.uou be family with you. Please get a Real.bible which is not connected to any religion group organization...Jesus LOVES YOU YOU ARE NEVER ALONE ❤️.keep.going I'm praying for your family--- hugs & LOVE Mama Jini
@@jinimurray4090 thank you for your positive words. I'd love to have another friend. I study my bible regularly. It was when I became homeless that I met a man. He knew I lived in my car. He hated it because he was always afraid for my safety. He lived at his grandparents house but asked if I would want to stay with his mom and dad. Come to find out his dad was a pastor. It was the countless hours of him praying for me, studying, and teaching me that I found freedom. Because of this I have been able to hear God and one day at church He stroked my hair. That man is my husband now and we both live in his father's church.
I'm also a former JW, but thankfully most of my family also left the cult so I didn't lose my entire support system. I'm so sorry you had to go through that and that you still have to live without your parents but I know actually being able to live your life and be free is worth it.
I'm sorry dear as many Christians out there that will help you I just learned about how a Jehovah witness will disown the family member that's not God's plan at all I'm a Christian I believe the church your wife and your family God never intended it to be like that I hope you're not living in a car anymore God bless
I'd rather live in my vehicle than paying rent to the landlord. I hate so much pay $2500 per month for a 1 bedroom I'm living now. I can't find any place cheaper unless if I move to Laos.
Just pure bliss. He seems like he has less stress than me. Oh, he does. It takes me 0ne and a half of hard earned checks and my life force being vampired out of me daily just to pay my rent and I haven't even eaten yet nor paid the other bills. Anyone relate?
Sad but true, this is most likely going to be my future, but seeing this man has filled me with a lot of hope and made that thought much much more bearable. Thank you so much
I have thought about learning to drive, purchasing a minivan or truck to convert it into a tiny home myself. I also considered the dangers of a single 50+ woman all alone in the middle of wherever I park. Is it safe enough, will I be able to sleep, what if? All of it creates the doubt that stops many from taking a first step towards change. I think I would feel safer in a van style home than in a shelter, on the streets or on a ferry where I spent countless nights when I had nowhere to go. Thank you for sharing your video, your positive attitude will serve as an inspiration to others.
You and I both. I can't find anywhere to reasonably rent that allows my breed of dog and I've got 3 weeks to move out of my cousins so I decided to buy a van and convert it. I'm a 23 year old carpenter and I've been doing remodeling since I was 16 so Its going to be a fun experience but getting accustomed to having my home on every job site is gonna be weird simply because of the dog aspect but we will both adapt nonetheless.
@@csnievessings get a shotgun. They are cheap and very effective. If you want to take the time and got through very useful and necessary training, get a concealed carry license and purchase a handgun. It helps you sleep better at night, not because you feel empowered and think you can just shoot anybody and everybody, but simply because you have the power, if necessary to stop a lethal threat with little hassle if properly trained and an ideal break in situation occurs. Anything can happen and if you were to get either of the weapons mentioned, practice in a practical situation with the said van you are planning to convert. Practice in your current living situation as well and never stop coming up with possible scenarios to train for, because you can never be too prepared. Don't become a person that relies solely on that weapon either, because not all situations call for it. You have to understand the power to discern and use reasonable judgment in all aspects. I feel the only thing stopping you is the what ifs. Same for me. I have no other choice tho so now I have gotten past the what ifs and its full speed ahead. Purchasing an astro in the next 2 weeks. Good luck on your journey
I loved that you turned a negative situation into a positive and made it an adventure. It's really cool to see you think outside of the box! Stay safe and positive. 👍
Just found this channel and glad I did. It's like.. defeating my depression. Giving me all sorts of amazing ideas on how to see the world, using a van! Thank you for your work.
I hope your depression eases up for you. It’s a tough time right now & as humans we need to stick together to get thru it. Wishing you the best!! Take care.
What a brilliant idea! I always wondered what I'd do if my vehicle needed to go into the shop and I suppose that could be a deterrent to others. Renting a U-Haul even for a week is so much less expensive than getting a hotel/motel. You're a smart man.
It's really not...I rented A uhaul truck (just a truck not moving van like this) 5 days and didn't even use allowed milage and it was 480$ that 19.95 a day they advertised is a lie
I subscribed simply because of production. Hell he could have been digging a ditch for all I care. This was like watching a real life big budget reality tv show.
I love how simple you live and how happy you are with small things, if more people on earth will be so kind and simple like you.....it will be so peaceful place and happy place .... respect man ❤️
Even without a home, a person can still survive. All you need is a job that pays enough for food, phone, clothes and a van with gas. A house is only necessary if you have kids.
Or on disability. I am considering living out of my car. Doing some tent camping combined with cabin rentals combined with tent camping and car living until I can secure a jib and fund a new place to live. I am leaving an abusive husband.
@@nofindausername Good luck! It takes so much courage to leave an abusive relationship and as difficult as it will be I hope everything works out for you! You deserve better and I'm sure you've realized by now that staying is even more difficult.
Mono Burgos You got issues, man. I think you’re the only one that needs to pretend anything, currently. You fucked the same person for 27 years. Congratulations. That doesn’t make you any more special than anyone else. You haven’t figured out anything besides getting to the next day, just like the rest of us. Some of us would rather not know every day is exactly like the last. That doesn’t make us special, either. It’s just what we want to do. Personally, I like indoor plumbing, so I couldn’t do the van thing. Scrogging an old lady a couple times a week sounds just as horrible.
Mono Burgos you seem like a boomer who just learned the word incel lol. Maybe he just can’t afford a home and has fallen on hard times and hence why he’s living in a uhaul. Saving money for future marriage and children you never know just a thought
Mono Burgos lol I’m 27 I don’t think I need to ask mommy and daddy anything about who I date but to entertain that idea if someone fell on hard times and lived in their car before we got together I wouldn’t care as long as he currently was not living in said car lol bc I’m not gonna sleep in a car If I don’t have to.
I see comments like hes not homeless. But in all honesty. His home is in the shop being fixed. You could compare it to having an apt or house And having to move for major unexpected repairs etc He chose to do uhaul probably cheaper than a hotel or apt or bnb etc
I like the parking lots at hospital emergency rooms, have stayed up to 5 nights, if you move from one side of the lot to the other each day, they think you are staying with a patient.
Robert Miller There is an RV lot that's been built behind the Scott and White hospital in Temple TX. I've rented an apt 1br 1 bath and my lease expires so my rent has gone up from $650 to $909 with utilities I paid $950 this is more than a third of my income. So now I'm looking to buy a small house. If I can find a lot? I have a floor plan for a 4 car garage with 3/2 apt and I'm pricing it to be built with cinderblocks. There's a new name but I can't remember it. I'd like some acreage so I can get chickens, turkeys maybe even take a bee keeper or master gardening class. I want to raise at least 90% of what I eat. :) I've spent most of 2017 and 2018 homeless. Not fun.
Dorian Thompson I’m a few years from 50 and I love the idea of living like this. I feel like I’m a prisoner to all the crap I’ve accumulated over the years. The only thing that scares me about this is I have some medical issues and need to see doctors regularly. As I get older it will only get worse. I don’t know how I could travel around the country and still regularly see doctors.
Don't do it I've camped out in the mts i I've camped out all over and I can tell ya one thing I'm good at it call me a hick camp out on your own land and build your house if you can thàt is not living and it is not save buy land in the wood and make a home trust me
@@TheSatan222 I've lived all over the place from the keys to Maine I'm 52 you need a place to call home a place you can set up you can call your own as time go on it gets harder.and yes I still love to be on the move . But at least shoot for a price of land you can call your own .you can always travel life is short . I'm from the mts and camped out more then most people and not all for fun but because I had no were. To go and that's holding down a job GET land you can fall back on and call your own taxes are cheaper than living on the road. Trust me a rolling stone collects no Moss when you find that place that you like keep the faith and settle down good luck God bless
I LOVE your attitude! Its everything for me! I was in a simular situation 5 yrs ago (preVanLife) and instead of embracing I resisted and was miserable when my heart kept reminding me to make it magical like you did! thanks for sharing! I did get locked in for about 8 hrs and that was terrifying!!! I had to call the cops to get me out and was almost arrested for an outstanding warrant for an outstanding ticket.
Next time you can use a small tent in the back with an emergency blanket over top of it and that will keep you warm. It's also great for if the power goes out in your home and you need a back up plan
I have used my tent cot bed twice because power was out due to snow storm. I use a blanket on top and I was warm and toasty with single digit temps outside..
Right on....less space to be heated and if you have a dog or two (in a home situation) it creates good body heat that can actually get 'too' warm. I keep a 2 or 4 person tent handy.
Innovative and intelligent! Just a thought: I've been in a situation where I had to camp in uninsulated, very cold surroundings; if you can put one of those metallic 'survival' thermal blankets below your mattress you'll do yourself a lot of good-- all that heat that the metal is stealing away will instead be reflected right back to you, and it can raise the temp of your sleeping situation several degrees. That doesn't sound like much, but there's a big difference between, say, 35F and 40F. If you can find a large one and actually bring the edges up around you (think "partially wrapped baked potato") it'll work even better. You do lose a lot of heat upwards, but the ground/floor below you will leach it out in no time; a reflective surface really helps. Another trick, one which has saved my butt (or at least my comfort level and my health) while camping outdoors: hot water bottles! You know, the cheap rubber ones you can get from Walmart or CVS or wherever? Make some fleece covers for them (or use old sweatshirts, though the fleece is better), heat up some water on your campstove (not to boiling; boiling will kill the rubber), fill them and tuck them into the foot and middle of your sleeping bag or whatever. Cover them up *thoroughly* and leave them in there for half an hour or so, and when you crawl in you'll be toasty. Forget heating-packs, forget butane hand-warmers... these are safe, simple, reusable and wonderful. Just be sure you tighten the stoppers well!
Yes, those "tin foil" blankets work wonders, they have sleeping bags and entire tents made from that material, I was out in cold weather and used the tin foil sleeping bag inside of a regular sleeping bag (I believe it was a minus 120 degree sleeping bag) and I actually got hot, so that material absolutely works and could save lives.
Not by choice, I lived in a van for 2 years. After adjusting, it was nice having the freedom of just driving to another place to park/boondock. I found that some places the people were more accepting to boondockers than others.
I don’t know anyone who can turn a bad situation into quite the adventure The way Chad did. And who gets excited over a bowel of cereal? Chad you the Man!
@@iannamico thats what im saying, i think the conclusion i came to is that unless you have an online job, your best bet is probably to work a job for some years and save hella money, and kinda save towards ur own "pension", to cover stuff like gas, food, etc. And then maybe after retiring you can do side hustles cause you have backup money
Duh...but he has none of the joys of raising children and having a family.. It looks like a miserable and shallow existence when you boil away the "scenery"... He tries to make this lifestyle look appealing but at the end of his day he has nothing but a cold Uhaul/van and a beer...
You are living the simple life!! With everything costly these days, you are not wanting for nothing being content is the most practical way to live. We need to really place our priorities in order.. I mean really! What's important in life right now is being at peace, contentment, being frugal in your finances, living below your means, trusting God. I love videos of these capacity. It's an eye opener. Thank you 😊
I'm pretty sure he's having a fantastic time, but I have to admit I enjoy my homestead, and all the amenities and toys that comes with it. But before anyone says something, I do know how to survive off the grid. I'm a war vet of 24yrs, and unfortunately I spent two years homeless because I defended myself against someone who tried to rob me (in Virginia). This was literally about a month and a half after I retired, and I was convicted with assault with a deadly weapon. I served 10 months in a private jail, and during that time ended up losing everything. 6yrs later I was able to purchase a 4200qft home with just under a acre of land, a 2020 LT Trail Boss 6.2L, 2019 Impala Premier, and last Wednesday I bought a 2021 Slingshot SL. Life is good.
That's kool...but did you notice that the gov has it'$ hand out every yr for taxes on every thing you mentioned. So in addition to "owning" those things...you get to pay "rent" once a yr to the gov. Own anything long enough and you might as well have bought it twice...seems like to me! I never thought about it before now ...but it sure makes me wanna run away from home and "join the circus". Don't worry tho...you're just another slow learner like me... Almost 76 ...and just figured it out! There's light at the end of the tunnel ! Just go to the light! But, before you do...make sure you designate who you want to leave it to...(all yer stuff!). So, the gov can once again help you out of another chunk 'o change. Leave it to them to figure out how to wrangle a tax payment outta your cold dead body!
@@daisydriver5877 there's ways to leave your stuff to people upon death without having it taxed. It all depends on how you do it so it's best to talk to someone that knows this stuff either attorney or somebody who has been through it. After losing both my parents in the last 3 years I've learned a lot that I'd wished I knew before.
I'm so sorry you experienced that hellish bs and I completely understand as my partner was in a similar situation and it pretty much caused hell in our lives for several years including severe mental health issues and we're still copping the effects but we're no longer homeless but in saying that nowhere near where we were. So fingers crossed we can rebuild our lives as you did. You are an inspiration thanks for sharing xo
I lived in a moving truck for almost a year way back before it was “cool”… I’m too old for adventures now though, I can barely walk after sleeping on an actual bed and that’s a good day.
Living The Van Life thanks man! Crazy neighbour says hi! Heads up, you will probably get put on “e-alert” I did... someone supposedly took it off but I don’t plan to rent there again haha. All the best, maybe we meet up in rented vans one day for a good urban camp out. Cheers and hunker down!
Steve Wallis hahaha. I know. My comments are blowing up about it. “They are going to Black List you like they did Steve.... as if it is a privilege to rent from Uhaul. I can always spend my money elsewhere. Cheers brother. Let’s meet up. I love Canada. I’m in Bellingham Washington.
For “locking” the uhaul door from the inside, get a pair of welding clamps. They are big jaw vise grips and clamp them on the rail where the door rollers ride. Works like a charm
I love this guy , he takes. A situation that would take most people in the panic mode and possibly therapy afterwards, And he,s making a fort 👍👏you got to love that .
Thank you I needed a laugh today!! I love Chris Farley. Oh and on a serious note don’t think for one second that any of us could be homeless. Be grateful and thankful for everything that God has blessed us with.
Lol I started reading your comment and thinking gee that name and story sounds familiar has this guy made videos? Lol then it dawned on me...duh. RIP Chris Farley
Just happen to come across your channel so decided to give it a shot. I’m a (young) retired 60 year old and have been thinking about the nomad van life ....at least to give it a try. How you did the u-haul stealth camping just made it seem so simple and uncomplicated. It just showed how simple we can live if we choose to so thanks soooo very much! I’ve. Watched numerous “how to” videos on the nomadic life style, what to live in, how to build it out or what not to do, what you absolutely do or do not need (depending on the clog presenter),etc. and they all have some points of validity in their own way. But you actually SHOWED how simple we can do things - even if it’s only temporary. So thanks so much again for an honest look at this life you live. And FYI - I damn near started salivating watching you eat that delicious steak! Peace to you my new friend......
Hi Bonnie. I agree. I've watched a LOT of videos too but I've never seen one like this. Very good! Talking about how simply you can get started, have you watched "VanCity Van Life" channel? You might enjoy it. He started with a bare extended cargo van, just threw in the basics and took off. He added things as he needed and could afford them. He didn't even have electricity or insulation for months! He kept expenses low and stayed close to his home (Vancouver) so he could pay off $20k of debt quickly. Vancover is beautiful and I feel like he's been my tour guide. Beautiful videos. And he is sooo positive, excited and inspiring! He's been doing this for over 2 years now and has traveled across Canada. I've been binge-watching his videos from the beginning.. Here's the link: ruclips.net/p/PLzjkjqEYjKpaX-y6GiHXPmlQP4UdMSNcl But you might want to start with his video on how he "built out" his van in 1 day. Here's that link: ruclips.net/channel/UC85rJiWmYQV8Shk3QWXT8MQ That's what got me interested in his channel. Then, you can watch from the beginning if you want to. He's convinced me! But first I have to clean out my house (that I've lived in for 20 yrs!), my office and 2 storage units. I can't buy a "nomad" vehicle until I can sell my house and get the equity out. I wish you luck!
you took the fear away of stealth parking because just got back from a four day/four night in rainy Lincoln City Coast weather a no=build build in my 2002 Honda Odessy as a 77 yr young new widow of two months . WHAT aN ADVENTURE!!! Wish I HAD video taped it, because lots of challenges with the 20 degree weather...like getting FROZEN into the van, unable to get out..LOL! But, warming it up solved that. Was able like you to keep warm except feet, so looking forward to getting the wool socks! WONDERFUL thing was meeting some amazing folks who, couple had or were homeless, and learning ways to overcome as well. So we exchanged emails and going to keep in touch Blessings to you on showing the "mansion" U-haul that can stand up in, because want to do an ambulance or u-haul tiny nomad cheap living home and YOU were an inspiration that the first thing going to do is INSULATE...maybe with left-over cheap rolls at a Restore Store. For some comic relief...look up the family friendly clean comedian...Michael Jr on youtube and then check out his two movies of MORE THAT FUNNY- Michael Jr and DIGITAL DAD...hilarious with a powerful msg. Also, if haven't seen the Season I of CHOSEN that livestreamed free during COVID...REALLY recommend it. SO many paid it forward, that millions of dollars and millions of people watched worldwide. So that now...Season II is available either on youtube/on app/or DVD. Keep up the good work and thanks for having a pioneering/NW adventurous spirit to keep us older chicks clucking. Hope to see you as a neighbor in heaven next to the real mansion my carpenter hubby is helping Jesus finish up.
@Michael Pulliam food and necessities are a must in any living situation. I was just calling out the bills nobody thinks about. Maintenance, gas, shower facilities, how you gonna cook, where are you gonna poop when your on a back country road, what are you gonna do if you get a flat, van breaks down out of nowhere, it’s not all fun and games. You need to be able to survive if anything was to happen. You always need a back up plan. My back up plan is to have a home base. Never just go full time van life unless you have experience being stranded for a lengthy amount of time. Being homeless is not fun no matter what the situation is. This guy is making lemonade out the lemons he has been dealt with. He seems to have been living this way for a while and is used to surviving these scenarios. For someone starting out. It’s gonna take some trial runs before you go full on van living. Sorry if I seem like a Debbie downer. But it’s the reality of the life.
I'm stuck in bed flat on my back (it's broken at L3) so I love watching someone do something I can't do. Great Fun this kept me from feeling sorry for myself tonight.
Friend, I hope you are doing well. My late hubs had micro-fractures through his spine from a military parachute accident. He was, over time, mostly paralyzed, but still an Ooh-rah Marine. Blessings to you, now and in the future!
The absolute dedication that vloggers do. Having to go out, setup the camera(and hope nobody steals it), go back in, open the “door”, reset the camera in another position, walk around, I’m already tired of just writing this Also… WOAH! This is my first video watching him and for some reason I did not expect his head of no hair
From someone who spent 7 months living every other week in the back of my car during the first covid lockdown (shift worked week on week off) this video really hit home for me. Had a few occasions where it was 0 degrees during the night, I had a mattress and army sleeping bag, then when it got a little warmer moved to duvet and some blankets. The worst part was finding places to wash and stay clean (originally had planned on using the gym each day but they shut down because of covid), and also getting a hot meal. I worked on chemical sites so couldn’t have combustibles in the car for cooking or keeping warm etc. Great site loving watching the videos.
Travel America, pilots, loves they have showers. But when I was in the army in the field I used the mre to heat water and food in a basin and was able to freshen up while there, brush teeth everything. The hot logic and the 12v hot pot if I don’t want to use an open flame. Hot logic is like an oven u can put a glass container in it and put the food in the container and warm it up or the hot pot can cook, and boil water and cook stuff.
When i worked on a carnival a few years agoWe took an old 24' uhaul and converted it into a camper complete with stove fridge shower.... all the convenience of home
Thank you so much for your time and effort providing us with everything you used, I will definitely follow your adventures, stay safe and God bless you🙏😁🙏
You could also use a pair of vice grips to clamp down on any spot of the door track to keep the door rollers from moving within the track. I work at Uhaul repairing trucks and trailers - this is our preferred method of keeping the door in any given spot. Or if you really want, you could use a 3/16" wrench to loosen the 2 bolts holding tension on the torsion spring, allowing the door to drop like a guillotine instead of springing up
As a single woman home owner, I'm living precariously through you . I have this sense of longing when i see the way you live. I also enjoy watching Elsa Rhae on RUclips, where her and her significant other live out of a Scamp Trailer. Thank you so much for your Channel. I love your approach on how you present your adventure
Great video, steak looked awesome. One thing I wanted to say was that I never go to sleep with anything burning for heat. No heater or Mr. Buddys. But I do have heat when sleeping with nothing running or using any power. What I've been doing is heating up three or four - aprox 8"×6"×3" River Rocks, on the burners prior to going to bed. You can even use a few bricks but I find river rock holds the heat the longest. I heat them on low temp for minimum of at least 20 to 30 minutes or till the tops are very hot to the touch, then shut the burner or burners down and let the rocks cool for about twenty minutes, then on one side of my bed I place a 7"in× 3'ft strip of luan wood and two thick towels over the top of the wood then I place the rocks lined in a row length wise on top of the towels that are over the top of the wood and wrap them over with the rest of the towel and tuck them in real nice. Btw the towels will get lightly scorched so use the same towels for this. Then I lay my quilt over top of the wrapped hot rocks to let the bed warm up for 10 - 15 min then I just climb into bed with the hot rocks for a warm cozy night sleep, with no heat except for the, "well I call'em" hot rocks wrapped up in towels. The rocks will still be warm when you wake up in the morning. Its like sleeping next to a warm body all night long. I find myself literally hugging the rocks in the middle of the night when they really start to cool down plus they keep your hands nice and toasty for hours. I guess an electric blanket will do fine if you have the extra power. Caution! Please, Please if you try this, use caution when handling hot rocks you can be severely burned if your not taking extreme caution. I use one thick oven mit to handle them but much safer with 2 oven mits. This method seems to be working fine for me in very cold weather, its been an addiction to me in cold weather. Its seems like extra work but to me it's worth it. I need to stay warm and safe when I sleep. What's your take on this method???
That shelf in the back perfect for a microwave and small mini fridge. Cartridge toilet in the corner. The wood edges perfect for mounting some power-strips attached to a roof solar power source and battery bank with inverter. Bed on a pallet frame or metal elevated memory foam base bolted down. I am getting ideas!
I love your life the fact that you certainly take good care of yourself, You have such a passion for life, and the meals that you prepared for yourself ,They have people that inside the take the time to prepare excellent meals like that for themselves, so I definitely commend you keep on living, because life is good.Peace
Ok, I REALLY hope you read this. Here’s how to keep yourself locked in from the inside, w/o being locked in from the outside. 1)outside, using zip ties, stabilize the locking mechanism open so it can’t be latched. 2) padlock the bar that the latch assimilates to on the outside of the van, it prevents the latch from being engaged. 3) if you don’t have the tie down strap, zip tie the wheel tracks so the wheels can’t move.
I remember my mom used to always tell me if you have a car you'll never be homeless, you can always make a bad situation into a positive situation. With today's technology I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to live in a car or a U-Haul for that matter, many inventions have been made, stay safe
Thats entirely correct. Living in a car beats paying 1550 on a shitty apartment. I admire this guys uhal setup, but a car really isnt that bad & its way easier to park anywhere
Here in the UK, that shape of van is called a Luton. They’re becoming very popular as a van to convert for living or as a Motorhome. Lots of space and nice and square, height is ace.
@Land Shads I moved from California to Colorado in a Penske truck and that door from the front to the back sure helped comfort in the front because I drove with 2 kids, cooler for snacks, and activity kits for the kids. So to be able to store and reach stuff there made the drive a lot easier. I was thinking about that truck while watching this video. It would sure make me feel safer.
Be blessed, young man. Towatch you be so positive and grateful in such difficult circumstances was a wake up call for me to count my blessing in life. I wish you a joyful heart no matter what you encounter in life. You are beautiful!
The next people that rented that Uhaul kept craving dry aged steak, brussel sprouts, and broccolini after they returned their truck. Thanks for putting some good mojo into a Uhaul.
OMG! I used to hide between the clothes racks all the time as a kid. One time, the store had to page me over the speaker and let me know my mom was waiting for me at the counter.
I’m surprised that I used over 36min. Of my time. It was entertaining and practical. It reminded me of my Brocken down van wnen I took my younger brothers and cousins camping. I should have rented a Uhaul and continued the camping. Next time for sure.
we missing you man , i was hope you'll be fine and in good situation , so keep going and be safe , i support you and i love what you doing Have a nice life
🌟Im stoked to subscribe🌟☺️ Born & raised in Jackson County (Medford) -Back in 1997 I stayed in a cute quant little motel with a pool for several months in Bend, Oregon. I remember one lush green big park I would go to. Been so long I cant remember the names anymore😂 What a beautiful part of the country to be in. I know this video was several years ago but I loved the idea👍 Sweet steak🤙 Grass finished at all? Glad U Haul didnt charge you an "overnight stay" charge🤣 Glad the VW is up and at it again... say, how does it run now that a few years have gone by since this video? Take care my new friend😊

One of the best summers of my 60+ years was in 2016 when we lived off grid in a 5th-wheel. Of course I had all the comforts of home, but we had to fill our own water and empty our tanks by ourselves while maintaining an "environmentally friendly" and cost effective lifestyle. You made me smile good sir, and for that I thank you mightily! 👌
It's the simplest thing in the 🌎to understand why u were happier than any other time. That experience showed you true freedom. You lost much of that to conform to society. Conforming to society as it exists today is a certain path to misery at least if you have any complex thoughts. I suppose that 75% of people are right as rain conformed as anything more complicated than their next breath is beyond their mental capacity.
As a single mother, I lived in a 14-foot moving van for a week while traveling with my 7-year-old daughter, two dogs, a bird, and two green water dragons. There was an opening between the cab and the back, so I could lock the rear on the outside with a padlock, and lock the truck from the inside. In Oregon, I managed to pick up a couple of giant slugs to feed to my dragons - greatly impressing tourists from southern California. "Is THAT a SLUG?" Not like the little garden slugs back home.
Shame on me.
lol that was my thought through the whole video...
haha at 13:12 you read my mind lol.
New sub.
Great that you added this, as I'd thought that t/o the VID...Gonna try this while my vehicle's down...👍
I camp in my semi every night. Needless to say I have a fridge, microwave, coffee maker, George Forman grill, a rice cooker, oh and Seattle TV and stocked cabinets. Been at it for 20 years.
ROFL🤣🤣🤣
King Solomon at first I thought this was some kind of jab at truckers.. I was about to light you up stating truckers definitely work more than one day a year. Then I saw his pic. I think I’m going to take away a lesson from this
Thank you sir. More and more I envy what you're people do. It seems rough but much more rewarding than being in one place every night.
King Solomon 😂😂😂😂
He was quiet, clean and respectful of his surroundings. Great video!
Most people couldn't afford to fix their van-home, let alone rent a uhaul for temporary housing. I'm glad you were able to
Living in a U-haul and still eating better than most people with a full kitchen! Bravo 👏 my friend! 🥩🥦🥒🍺
Happiness is a choice. When you said "life is good" as you hung out in a u-haul, I realized I've been stressing to much about dumb stuff.

Its so messed up that we are in a society that someone living in a car needs to hide do to fear of incrimination. Our laws are so upside down
It's always about the money.
@@Twitch760 Absolutely.

Nah. Check other countries. You'll see ours is pretty damn good 🙂
And nobody wants to see a naked guy shaving in the back of a uhaul or step around people to go to the doctor/grocery store/etc
It's why most people are moving FROM California, not to it. 🤣
Plus, for all the socialists out there....

Happy to hear you still love God so many people have religion and not God its sad

This is what my life has come to... watching some dude eat steak until completion in the back of a uhaul. I'm OK with this
Notice how he keeps calling it "our food", "our dinner", "our steak"?

I'd rather live in my vehicle than paying rent to the landlord. I hate so much pay $2500 per month for a 1 bedroom I'm living now. I can't find any place cheaper unless if I move to Laos.
@Mountain Man well it can but this is just a rental, so it's basically a VRBO
Excellent point !
Just pure bliss. He seems like he has less stress than me. Oh, he does. It takes me 0ne and a half of hard earned checks and my life force being vampired out of me daily just to pay my rent and I haven't even eaten yet nor paid the other bills. Anyone relate?
Ye. most of the ppl are just the wage slaves.
I can relate.
Why do we have to pay to live on the Earth we we're born on? Stupid system!!!!
Im hungry.
Tell me about it,1350 for a 1 bedroom in california.seriously thinking about taking life on the road.
What a brilliant idea! I always wondered what I'd do if my vehicle needed to go into the shop and I suppose that could be a deterrent to others. Renting a U-Haul even for a week is so much less expensive than getting a hotel/motel. You're a smart man.
I can't because I don't have a credit card

Mono Burgos You got issues, man. I think you’re the only one that needs to pretend anything, currently. You fucked the same person for 27 years. Congratulations. That doesn’t make you any more special than anyone else. You haven’t figured out anything besides getting to the next day, just like the rest of us. Some of us would rather not know every day is exactly like the last. That doesn’t make us special, either. It’s just what we want to do. Personally, I like indoor plumbing, so I couldn’t do the van thing. Scrogging an old lady a couple times a week sounds just as horrible.
Mono Burgos can I use the car next weekend?
Mono Burgos you seem like a boomer who just learned the word incel lol. Maybe he just can’t afford a home and has fallen on hard times and hence why he’s living in a uhaul. Saving money for future marriage and children you never know just a thought
Mono Burgos lol I’m 27 I don’t think I need to ask mommy and daddy anything about who I date but to entertain that idea if someone fell on hard times and lived in their car before we got together I wouldn’t care as long as he currently was not living in said car lol bc I’m not gonna sleep in a car If I don’t have to.

I think that's great advice!
Great idea.
That would be safer.

That water bottle 💡is genius yo

@@vernellguillory whats is your plan to make money?
@@iannamico thats what im saying, i think the conclusion i came to is that unless you have an online job, your best bet is probably to work a job for some years and save hella money, and kinda save towards ur own "pension", to cover stuff like gas, food, etc. And then maybe after retiring you can do side hustles cause you have backup money

It looks like a miserable and shallow existence when you boil away the "scenery"... He tries to make this lifestyle look appealing but at the end of his day he has nothing but a cold Uhaul/van and a beer...
Why does he say homeless though when he has a roof over his head?
You are living the simple life!! With everything costly these days, you are not wanting for nothing being content is the most practical way to live. We need to really place our priorities in order..
So you try to defend yourself and YOU get sent to prison. That sucks!!!
@@daisydriver5877 there's ways to leave your stuff to people upon death without having it taxed.
Here's the link: ruclips.net/p/PLzjkjqEYjKpaX-y6GiHXPmlQP4UdMSNcl
But you might want to start with his video on how he "built out" his van in 1 day. Here's that link: ruclips.net/channel/UC85rJiWmYQV8Shk3QWXT8MQ
That's what got me interested in his channel. Then, you can watch from the beginning if you want to.
He's convinced me! But first I have to clean out my house (that I've lived in for 20 yrs!), my office and 2 storage units. I can't buy a "nomad" vehicle until I can sell my house and get the equity out.
I wish you luck!

Is nice to be free of bill, no rent no electric bill go anywhere you want and have happy life
Nice but no companion or family around. Its a lonely life with single serving friends however some people prefer that
It cost almost just as much money for vehicle maintenance and gas. It’s not as cheap as you think.

Honestly, that Uhaul looks comfy
I did this for a while in my car and it was cool af, i was all over the place and felt free for once in a long time.
Dawmmm that cereal breakfast view from inside the U haul track made it all worth the adventure. Loved the ending.
I love your life the fact that you certainly take good care of yourself, You have such a passion for life, and the meals that you prepared for yourself ,They have people that inside the take the time to prepare excellent meals like that for themselves, so I definitely commend you keep on living, because life is good.Peace
The way everything is beautifully in sequence is so enjoyable and satisfying. Really Great job
Or you can just plug the latch holes

As a single mother, I lived in a 14-foot moving van for a week while traveling with my 7-year-old daughter, two dogs, a bird, and two green water dragons. There was an opening between the cab and the back, so I could lock the rear on the outside with a padlock, and lock the truck from the inside.
In Oregon, I managed to pick up a couple of giant slugs to feed to my dragons - greatly impressing tourists from southern California. "Is THAT a SLUG?" Not like the little garden slugs back home.
