Okay, I'm going to gush a bit here...but truly, this was the best demo of how to do a bargello I've watched. And the fact that you made it unique and scrappy was like the icing on the cake. I really appreciate how clearly and thoughtfully you explained your thought process, any difficulties you encountered and well as the techniques you used. You took a claasic pattern, worked with what you had, and problem solved to make a wonderful, unique quilt. To me that is the mark of a creative quilter. I love your videos like this, Fallon. Very well done!
Just breathe taking! ❤ I haven’t made a Bargello quilt before but I want to now. And I love making patriotic quilts too, so thank you for your great video! 💓🇺🇸🧵🪡
I agree with mjsews this is the best demo on bargello I have ever seen! You did a wonderful job. I watched Donna Jordan demonstrating this pattern and she is good, but this was so much better. thank you Your scrappy red, white and blue quilt is amazing.
Fallon it is absolutely stunning - thank you. I'm pulling out my patriotic material now, then halloween, then Christmas and scrappy and going from there.
Thank you so much Tara! The look of the Bargello quilt certainly makes it look intimidating doesn’t it!? It is a lot of sewing, but is definitely not as complicated as I thought it would be! Go for it!
Gorgeous patriotic quilt! Yes, Donna’s patterns and tutorials are fabulous learning tools. I just finished two Trip Around The World quilts using Kaffe Fassett fabrics. They were my stepping stones to Bargello! Thanks for sharing your scrappy version, it is truly an inspiration for me to collect my nine red, white and blue fabrics and get busy. Blessings, Dawn
Fallon, This video is great. Quilting Friends I want to brag on the slide lock ruler. I teach a quilting class & cut a lot of material. Now I can actually cut 12 layers at once. It totally pays for it self right away. Especially if you when you can cut so accurately. No slips no slides. This has allowed me to cut all my precuts and has saved me so much money & time. Trust me friends it is unreal!
I haven’t made a bargello quilt, but I really like your scrappy fabrics. I like that you are happy with your choices. A pattern is wonderful,, but happy “accidents” are great.
Beautiful quilt ❤ I've made many Bargello Quilts and I use my own pattern. Sometimes I just make it up as I go 😊 It's one of my favorites to make. Loved your video! ❤
You are so good at creating your own patterns and just figuring it out as you work! No way I could do that with one of these quilts! Your quilts are always so impressive!
I am making a little more difficult Bargello Quilt. I am using all batiks except for a couple of my fabrics. I have the Accuquilt and a 2.5 inch strip cutter. That helped a lot! Mine is no where near perfect. It is alittle above my pay grade but the lady teaching the class assured me I could do it. I am really loving it so far. It is a huge King size quilt. It couldn’t be done in the way yours is with the tube you unpick, so I am having to keep mine in a number order and go by numbers. It is called Cosmic Twist. I would love to try the Jordon’s fabrics one next. It looks easier. Especially since you can break it down into squares. I love your scrappy , patriotic quilt. It is beautiful! I am sure you will be the only person to see any mistakes. I decided to live with some of my seams not perfectly matching and I don’t think anyone else will notice. It isn’t a competition quilt. Just for me and I love it!
Oh batiks would be beautiful in a bargello! I think that is what Donna Jordan used in her video. I have been eyeing the accuquilt 2.5" strip cutter! It sounds like it was helpful for your bargello! I have only made one king size quilt and it was a lot to manage! A bargello would be a lot to keep track of king sized! If you are making it through your pattern then you will love the Donna Jordan Pattern! It is really nice having it in small manageable squares for sure!
@@sewbeitquilts I bet it is a lot easier! This King size is a lot to handle. Donna Jordon also did one with a panel. It was gorgeous! It was a beach scene. I would like to try that one.
Great tutorial. I started making a baby bargello years ago using a pattern and RUclips episode of the Midnight Quilt Show with Angela Walters. At the time I was having major health issues and constant doctor appointments and tests that within 3 months resulted in news that I have 5 different Autoimmune diseases. The terror of the unknowing and the terrifying symptoms had me so stressed and I ended up taking all that was sewn already and making them into 10” blocks. I added here and there with strips that were cut but not yet sewn. I just needed to sew with no thinking to relieve the tension. What I did was a good save but far from the bargello I was going for. It was scrappy and in some beautiful sunset colors. They baby will be 8 soon and still drags that quilt around. I’m not sure if I will ever try again. Maybe I will just enjoy watching yours.
Oh Destry I can't imagine how stressful that was! I think it is wonderful that you found a way to adjust the pattern so you could sew and relieve some of your stress. I just love that the child you gifted the quilt to still loves it!
Your quilt has contrast, pattern for your eye to wander and so it is lovely. Bravo! I hate random scrappy mess so planning your fabric is a boon. After diving deep into color theory' I used to look at the most expensive quilts and the cheap abandoned quilt tops and figure out why one was prized and one unloved. Then I would try to figure out how to cut and reuse the quilt top to fix what's missing. Organisation with a pattern and some eye resting places with a background or solid and new fabric with contrast. White or black on a monocromatic quilt, lights or mediam tone added to a dark quilt, etc. When you are trying to follow a pattern but have mixed fabrics as in scrap I have found, using the 'lets get it done' tip of taking a black and white photo of your candidate fabric, is super helpful. Also once you chose a fabric for a specific roll in you quilt stay consistant. In this case that would eliminate the same print next to each other such as where you switched a prints location in the color transition. Tone errors I find can be very obvious. Overall your eye still follows the basic pattern so no big deal. Love it!
I've never made a bargello, but I will be trying it soon. I have made a lot of trip around the world quilts. That was my first quilt made many years ago and it is my go-to pattern. They all turn out unique because I exchange &place some fussy cut material for fun.

Happy 4th of July. One of my first ever quilting classes at my LNS was a huge picture bargello quilt. I didn’t know half of what I know now about quilting and mine turned out so beautifully! Thank you also for the extra showing of your use of your new “ruler”. I’ve had mine for a few days and really appreciate seeing it in use. It helps to make extremely accurate cuts and does NOT slip on me…amazing new ruler and I love it!!! Great job Falon!!!😊
The ruler of Fallen’s is absolutely wonderful! It is a total game changer. You can not imagine the difference it makes with accurate cuts no slipping, no worries about cutting your fingers. The lightest pressure I have ever put on a ruler and it helps with my back pain.
I have to agree that my cuts are more accurate too! This quilt, even with all the seams and small pieces, is really laying nice and flat and even! That doesn't always happen for me!
You should! They are a lot of sewing, but it is really fun watching it come together. I also think this pattern from Jordan Fabrics makes it very manageable since it comes together in blocks. You can make just one at a time and keep your strip sets stored away until you want to sew.
I love a patriotic color theme and I think you've done a fabulous job with this pattern. I feel confident that I can make a bargello quilt following your instructions. Thanks for a wonderful tutorial ❤️
You can do it! Donna also gave some wonderful tips if you haven't watched her video! It is so fun watching the design come together. Its a lot of sewing, but very rewarding!
Great tutorial n good save! Sometimes we do need to step back a day or two. I loved each of you blocks; and as with many quilts, I was wondering how it would come together. WoW 🤩🤩🤩
Thank you! I know what you mean! I was so worried about it coming together until I had a few blocks up on the design board! I don’t know why it didn’t click in my head that I wouldn’t have enough of each fabric to complete a full row of each wave! 🤦🏼♀️ Thankfully it worked out!

Your quilt is beautiful. I’ve been wanting to make a quilt like that also and I already downloaded the pattern and you have given me inspiration to get it done after I get about four or five other quilt pops done. Thank you so much and happy new year.
I love it! It is beautifu! I love the organized scrappiness of your quilt.. I’ve watched the video from Jordan Fabrics, but have never made one, yet. Have a Happy 4th!🎉🎆🎇
Her video is so good! Such an inspiration! I believe that it is shown in two different color layouts too. I always find that so helpful. It may be the actual pattern that is in different colors.
Not sure yet! I don't have the talent to quilt this one yet, I might have to hand this one over to a long armer to work their magic! Any suggestions on what pattern I should ask about?
@@sewbeitquilts I always wanted to make one of these, but they always seem so complicated. The way you explained it made. It seem a lot easier to do so I’m going to try it. And no, I don’t have any ideas for a quilting pattern. I was thinking if I do it, I might do waves? I’m not very good on my long arm and that is simple and it won’t fight with the pattern of the quilt
I have one in progress using Eileen Wright's book.... Eileen wrote a number of Bargello quilt books and patterns Just heard that Eileen just passed away due to surgery complications.
I have her books too. I had heard she was having health trouble and had moved from Vancouver Island to ( I think ) Alberta. Very unfortunate that she has passed away. Such a talented quilter.
When I was editing this video I noticed I used different ones throughout! 😂 I wanted to try a few of them a little more to see if I changed my mind after using it for more than just one cut. My old rotary cutter is still my favorite! Lol
I love this quilt. Thank you for providing color options. However, I caution everyone to be cognizant of giving a patriotic quilt (any patriotic quilt) with too much going on to a veteran who has PTSD. I am not saying this one will, just sharing as I am married to a veteran with PTSD.
It wouldn't save me time since I gave up on seams matching after awhile. (I didnt feel like it really changed the look of the wave if the seams were off a little). But if someone needs to see them match it just might save time. I can't say for sure though since I never pinned.

Her video is so good! Such an inspiration! I believe that it is shown in two different color layouts too. I always find that so helpful. It may be the actual pattern that is in different colors.
Great video! Thanks
It turned out great. Gorgeous! Have not attempted a barbells. Woukd like to though. When I get brave enough to try it😊
It is a lot of sewing, but not as complicated as I thought it would be! You will have fun!
You did a gorgeous job. The only one who could have done it better is Jesus, and He does everything perfect.
Fallon it turned out gorgeous!! I love it!! What pattern to quilt it?
Eileen wrote a number of Bargello quilt books and patterns
Just heard that Eileen just passed away due to surgery complications.
Oh I am so sad to hear that! I will need to look for one of her books! Thank you.
I have her books too. I had heard she was having health trouble and had moved from Vancouver Island to ( I think ) Alberta. Very unfortunate that she has passed away. Such a talented quilter.
That is so sad. When did she pass away? I had not heard this. 😢
Now I keep noticing which rotary cutter you’re using haha…is that her favorite?
When I was editing this video I noticed I used different ones throughout! 😂
I wanted to try a few of them a little more to see if I changed my mind after using it for more than just one cut. My old rotary cutter is still my favorite! Lol
❤
Where did you get the yellow ruler/straight edge with the handle?? I love the way your quilt turned out. Nice work.
❤❤❤
What is the name is the quilt behind you? 😊
I love this quilt. Thank you for providing color options. However, I caution everyone to be cognizant of giving a patriotic quilt (any patriotic quilt) with too much going on to a veteran who has PTSD. I am not saying this one will, just sharing as I am married to a veteran with PTSD.
Did you mean Donna Jordan of Jordan Fabrics?
There is a lot to remember when the camera is on 🤷🏼♀️

Pinning a bargello doesn't save time. It takes forever!
It wouldn't save me time since I gave up on seams matching after awhile. (I didnt feel like it really changed the look of the wave if the seams were off a little). But if someone needs to see them match it just might save time. I can't say for sure though since I never pinned.
Beautiful!!
Thank you! 😊
