Icon Siam Bangkok DIY THAI STREET FOOD TOUR 🍜🌶 The BEST Thai Shopping Mall Food in Bangkok
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 21 окт 2024
- Today I headed to the second biggest mall in Bangkok, Icon Siam, on the Thonburi side of the rive to sample three incredible Thai street food dishes all under one roof. I want to help you find authentic Thai street food wherever you are staying in Bangkok by giving you these little DIY food tours in every area of the city.
So as you know I'm much happier roaming the streets (pun intended) but with Monday generally being pretty poor for street food in Bangkok due to the fact it's street cleaning day, I thought I'd give you a DIY food tour that you can do anytime, any day, whatever the weather and still get great tasting, authentic Thai street food. Icon Siam is that place!
This for me is the best food I've had in any mall in Thailand. It's a little pricier than the streets but still very reasonable by western prices!
Directions and opening times for Icon Siam:

My name’s Gary and I’ve been living in Bangkok for the past five plus years and travelling Thailand for over ten. I’m obsessed with Thai street food and it’s that obsession that led me to start this RUclips channel. I want to share my favourite hidden spots in Bangkok and the rest of Thailand so you can fall in love with authentic, local Thai food as much as I have!
I’ve never understood travelling to a town or city and not eating the local food. How else do you really connect with a place? Let’s get out and explore together and I guarantee you’ll find a whole different side to this wonderful country.
If you love seeing off the beaten path, non-touristy, local life and authentic local life in Bangkok and Thailand then this is the channel for you. If go go bars on the Sukhumvit Road are more your thing (I’m not judging) then maybe not!

Hi from the most locked down city in the world...Melbourne, Australia. We have finally started opening up to travel and I have already booked to travel to fabulous BKK. I have been following your channel for quite a few years (pre pregnancy and baby) and remember walking behind you down Charoen Krung Road a couple of years ago! I have been to Thailand over 50 times in the past 30 years and can't wait to eat street food again. I have also tried many of the places you have recommended previously and have never been disappointed. Thanks for all your interesting content over the years and I am glad to see many others are now appreciating your great work!
Wow, I’m so glad you’ve got something to look forward to Rhonda, Melbourne sounds like it’s been really miserable. Thank you for the support, I really appreciate it. Haha, you should have said hello when you saw me!

Now this is a great idea to go to a place where you can get a range of choice in Thai food from different regions of Thailand.
It’s a great place to get everything under one roof Sunny!
The food in the food courts in the shopping malls in Bangkok is very good. Great food at reasonable prices. Much better than a Shopping Mall food court in the West
Yeah it took me a while to get my head around it as I couldn’t think of anything I like less than eating in malls (shopping centres as we call them) back in the uk haha
the cheapest and best place for food courts in Bangkok is Terminal 21 ! for anyone interest. try avoid lunch hour for office worker tho....
But Icon Siam is definitely the best place for indoor street food
@@mickbotcast probably my least favorite mall to eat at in Thailand. MBK is much better, and I loved Icon Siam,. Both better options than terminal 21.
@@pouffykinkajou MBK is great too yes! An old classic But I got oversweet Pad Thai one time and trauma by it ( I'm a Thai who visit MBK more than 21 )
My most favourite foods court must be Terminal21 at Asoke
Awesome, love that floor in Icon. There was a guy who made amazing shrimp dumplings soup near the floating market, hope he's still there
It does ring a bell! I’ll check for you!
I hope you guys enjoy something off the street today!
Awsome video. Deserves 200k views! Som Tam Khao Pod is the one!!
Haha, cheers guys, much appreciated. Let’s grab a som tam khao pod soon!

i can't wait to get back to Thailand!!! loving your videos!!!
Thanks buddy, hope you can get back soon
Seems like all that was missing from this episode are the sounds of passing motor bikes. Congrats on surpassing your sub goal, great content!
Thank youuuuu, much appreciated. I can’t believe how many people have subbed! Don’t worry, I’ll be back on the streets with more street videos soon!
Great movie cheers Gary. We're staying at the Millennium Hilton in April so it's a perfect food vlog for us 😁
Yeah this is great especially if it’s raining! You have to check this place out too ruclips.net/video/MkDKuXXDaFM/видео.html
Wowww- definitely a place to take my friends from San Francisco who haven’t been to a southeastern Asian country before 🤩 They look amazing but I do get what you mean about the street noise….not the same! One gotta experience it😉 Thanks again for sharing this wonderful video Gary😊
BTW Gary- how did you learn how to speak Thai exactly? My husband who is from England has a hard time remembering some of the everyday phrases I teach him😱 So impressed with your Thai! Keep your wonderful video coming 😬
Yes it’s a great place for first timers Marietta 😎 but yeah I love the smells and sounds of the streets! I learnt my Thai by repetition and practising at markets. It’s hard to get it to stick unless you’re using it daily for us farang 😂 it sounds a bit weird but check a course out called learnthaifromawhiteguy
Hi Gary 🖐️, good to see new clip again 😁. I enjoy listening to you speaking Thai with vendors, and you do it in such respectful manners, so endearing to your vendors and to your viewers as well.😁. Have a wonderful day!
Awww thank you Panna, you are the best 🙏❤️ I know I didn’t say everything correctly though, you are being kind I’m sure 😅
@@theroamingcook You are doing great! It's the effort that counts. Practice makes perfect. Oh, btw, have you ever eaten Kanom Krok? You can have them on the savory side, or on the sweet side (they are not too sweet anyhow), either way, they are "delish." I am quite sure even Helen will like them too.
Really enjoying your channel! Thanks Paddy for sending me over!!
Brilliant ,I'm bookmarking the Dishes you eat so i don't forget .More importantly for me ,i'm going to spend a few days in BKK rather than rushing off to my Holiday destination which iv'e done apart from once in years .Thanks Gary 🙏
That’s a great idea Geno. We used to rush off after a day or two but we love it now as you can see 🇹🇭❤️
Excellent channel you got here. Deserves to be massive! I’m going to Thailand next year and going to try as many as your recommendations as I can! Keep the videos coming!
Thanks mate, much appreciated. I hope you enjoy them!
Didn’t realize that Icon Siam had that much to offer! Food looks legit too
For a mall it’s unreal!
Love yer channel mate keep up the great work yer doing on the Thai food scene your the best out there
Cheers mate, I really appreciate the support!
💖 You just a food lover and always make my mouth watering. This Icon - Siam is a must to visit right !. But you put so much chilies 🌶 in your foods, I felt burning in my tummy.
Hahaha, yeah I had some burning in my tummy as well Sheila 😅
I love this location. Lots of my favorites food.
It’s a great spot
Your Thai is really really good!!
Thank you kub 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Hi Gary,
I am a new subscriber and it is very interesting the meals you are showing us. Is there any way you can write the name of the dishes as you say them to us. That would be so helpful. I will be traveling to Thailand in December and I can't wait to try all the food that Thailand has to offer. Keep up the great work and thank you for sharing.
Hey Jose, I had been doing it on my last probably ten videos apart from this one for some reason! Usually everything I eat is written in the description as well. I’ll update the description of this one so you know what to get. Welcome to the channel, I hope you enjoy the rest of the videos
@@theroamingcook I am new to your channel and I am enjoying the different foods and the scenery of Thailand. I will be looking at your previous videos on what I have been missing. Keep up the good work.... :o)
I can totally relate Gary!!!
Money flew out of pocket uncontrollably!
It's semi-impulsive buying.... hilariously!
Haha, it’s too hard to control 😂
@@theroamingcook one silly question Gary, have you find the best place for 'Boat Noodles'?
Haha, too many for me to say best but one near Wat Arun called Lung is amazing. Only problem is no liver! I take these noodles in a boat to eat in Sunday’s video 😃 another one in Bang Waek where they sell amazing Tom yum nam tok 🤤
@@theroamingcook yummy!!!
I remembered trying the Khao kha moo the last time I was there because it looked so good (was not planning to get any food) 😆
Hahaha, yeah it’s impossible to walk past and not eat it 😅
Man your videos are smashing out of the park! I love going to the street food section in icon siam. Glad you covered the khao Soi place, I saw that on my way out last time, didn’t know it was famous, great to know it’s not the real deal. (Or not as good as Daradalay or Huan Lumphun) There’s another Hang Lay place in there I didn’t get to eat at last time. I’ve had the Khao Kha moo, excellent. Also glad you had the sweetcorn som tam. I’m not a som tam fan but wanted to try the sweetcorn version for a while. Also I like how you pick each Ingredient out of the dish for us. If there’s a link to the ‘share the love fund’ I’ll stick some in so you can spread it about to the locals and show us some more awesome dishes.
Looks like my last comment got deleted from RUclips for mentioning the full name of the coffee channel. Anyway my contribution is over there.
Cheers mate, much appreciated! I was maybe a bit harsh on the Khao soi place, I've got a Thai friend from the north that eats there exclusively. For me the otherstall is better but I couldn't find it! Yeah I reckon you'd prefer the sweetcorn one mate. Glad you're enjoying the videos mate and I'll set that fund up this weekend!
Ah mate, you legend! I'll make sure I putvitvto good use. Thank you so much 🍻
@@theroamingcook I know you will dude. I just sent a PM or a DM on Twitter. Didn’t know how else to contact you.

I love moo ping i had it a couple years ago when i was staying in the Sathorn area at the Marvin hotel near some schools and a man was grilling it in front of his house.. best thing on a stick true that.. L.A Rob ( even better with my Thai Iced Tea....)
Ah Rob, now you’re talking! Moo ping washed down with a Thai tea…heaven!

Hey bro, been following you for a while now and loving the content. I fly into Bangkok on the 18th Nov, and was wondering if you'd consider giving me a little food tour? It would be great to get shown some spots. All the best
Hello Jamie mate, so glad to hear you’re coming over. I’d love to fine you a tour. Are you on Instagram?
Hey, I'll be traveling to Thailand for the first time this Friday and I'll stay for a couple of months. I would love to join you guys on a food tour if that's alright :D
Thanks Gary for very informative video. Actually its very comfortable eat sometimes in air con places. I like also these food courts in shopping malls. Cheap and good food. Khao kha moo looks sooo goood. Icon Siam is also place to visit. Waiting for next video🙏🙏🙏👍
My pleasure Jouni, I’m glad you liked it. I prefer hitting the streets as you know but sometimes you just need that icy aircon!

Cheers mate, yeah I’m a lucky man 🙏🙏
Your Thai language is good my friend.👍👍👍
Thank you my friend. I need to work on it!
Went Icon Siam in Aug 2019. Very huge and nice mall with plenty of street food in aircon. lol
You’ve described it perfectly Lin 👌😃
Good idea this. Sometimes you just wanna be able to get off a BTS And walk into air con and eat. The food halls you get in the shopping centres would also be interesting one. The one at terminal 21 is quite good or the food hall in MBK. When I first went to Thailand I found them more intimidating than normal street vendors as it’s always pretty busy and there ain’t much time to learn. The locals working in the city don’t get much time for their breaks and don’t need farangs struggling around them
Haha, I know what you mean mate. Pressure is on in the food courts at lunchtime 😅 always end up ordering something rubbish because I can’t decide quickly enough! Doing Terminal 21 next week. I might do a shopping centre every Monday!
@@theroamingcook awesome!!
@@theroamingcook be great aswell to do a bit of lingo for tourists coming over. Something easy for them to use when ordering food. I.e want 1. Or how to ask for spicy or no spicy. Useful stuff.
I would be more than happy to help random tourist I found.
but only 2 case so far in my life orz...
one time direct one farang couple to Siam before they end up lost to the opposite direction another time point out a group of Indian to Erawan shine
I believe there a lot of people that will help around so please do so !
Haha Gary, I tell you what, I am those who eat street food in the mall during day time 😆😆it's too hot outside and I don't want to sweat all over 😂😂
Can't wait for your Taling Chan video. I hope to know more🤜🤛
Haha, nothing wrong with that! I like to sweat in the street 😅
I’m hoping the Taling Chan video will be up on Sunday 🙏🙏🙏
Oh!!! I miss Bangkok.

One of my favorite food spots in BKK is EMQuartier... not "street food" but the selection, variety and quality of food is awesome.
EmQuartier definitely has a great selection 👍
It's really fun to watch the cooking process of local Thai foods.😀👍👍

Another good one mate. What's the story are you and the Mrs going back to UK indefinitely? Or will the content continue?
We went back home for a few months but we’ve been back in Bangkok for a couple now and we’ll be here for the foreseeable future Blair 🙏
Wow, your Thai speaking is very good. clearer than the real Thai people
Hahah, thank you but no way 😅 I’m trying though
@@theroamingcook she means Thai people in Bangkok came from different parts of Thailand and of course their are a lot of accents. But when you speak your accent's very clear like middle Thai accent or Bangkok accent, Thai people from another province have their own rhythm and sound and when they speak it's up and down in different way from Bangkok people even they say the same word as you, probably you listen and talk with a lot of people in Bangkok so now you have Bangkok accent. Lol
Great spot for street food in airconditioned comfort - nice vid mate!
Cheers fella, I can think of worse places to get stuck
I want a try that som dtam bro. Love a normal som dtam thai but that is an interesting spin on it. See ot in one of your other vids too.
Yeah mate I’m all over it. Let’s get one on Tuesday!
I had seen your videos in past too but was not subscriber, paddy asked to do so and so here am i again on your channel as a subscriber, my request to you is show us some best vegetarian thai street food options too as many of thailand visitors are vegetarian or some even vegan. I hope you will make such full long video someday in near future.
Consider it done Kashyap 🙏🙏
@@theroamingcook thanks a lot for your positive response, will definitely ask friends to subscribe channel, today i have seen mynamar cafe video from phuket and also krabi video of malay thai food fusion, all videos are amazing, in love with your content.
Many of the food courts in Bangkok have some great Thai food and often the prices are not that much more expensive than off the streets.
That’s true. I’d still prefer to be outside as I’m sure you would but it’s nice to take a break sometimes and know you can still get decent food. Albeit with zero atmosphere
@@theroamingcook Anything in a Thai shopping mall is better compared to the very limited crap Thai food in America. I have eaten at about forty restaurants in the Seattle area. In two I was able to finish my meal. It was that bad. The last time it was take out I could not finish it and had to toss it in the trash. Maybe next time I will order Fried Rice and see if they can screw that up.
Excited to see this on August 27, 2022. 😊😊😊
Enjoy 😀🇹🇭

You can pay everywhere with cash in Thailand Stewie, it's just better for me to use QR as I loose all my cash whenever I have it!
Not sure if you've heard of Ying's Thai Cooking Home on Koh Samui but she's fantastic, has a great spirit and truly underrated. I would love to see a collaboration with her and a genuine assessment of her food. Just a thought. She has half the subs as you do and I think you both would be a hit. Eat ON!!!
I LOVE Yings’s channel, I watch it all the time. I would absolutely love to do a video with her and one day I’ll try (if she wants to) but it’s just getting to Koh Samui that’s the problem!
Never been to the malls there, looks great! Question, did you go back to England to get vaccinated? Cheers!
I still prefer to be out and about but it makes for a nice Pitt stop! And, yes we went back and got our vaccines

Alright duchess? Bang up job again today! Was a bit apprehensive about the luxury mall concept but you pulled it off. I often have kao ka moo in other food courts for the reason you said about gaeng kiew waan, I don't know that it deteriorates much in these pots vs the street equipment? Not looking to request a video cos I know it's a bit niche, but are you able to provide a couple links to places in BKK where I could get a proper kao kluk gapi? Usually only see it in the food courts and they skimp on the gapi so much, it's criminal! Done a search on your 151 vids but don't see it, although I confess I don't have time to watch them all to double check. So if you covered it before, please just point me in the right direction and I shall feast me old peepers on it.
Cheers me old mukka, glad you enjoyed it! You know I love the smells and sound of the streets but got a request for this and thankfully it didn’t go down in flames! I’ll get that kluk kapi video done for ya fella, consider it done. I have no idea why I’ve never done one before!

you probably should have expected exorbitantly high prices in the most upscale mall in Asia. where else can you shop for a Porsche, Mercedes and a Rolls Royce
I definitely wouldn’t call the prices of food exorbitantly expensive, there’s so much here under 50 baht but I see your point about the cars 😬🏎

Usually prices are in the description. I’ll try to put them in the video too
