  • Today I joined up with Hidden Bangkok Boat to check out the wonderful Taling Chan canals in west Bangkok to celebrate hitting 6000 Subscribers (I was at 3000 when I made the video) so thank you for the support guys!
    The highlight of our tour was stopping at Pa Tang's for some canal side 'prison fried rice'. Her restaurant is hidden right on the canal at Bang Ramat and there is no way I would have found this place on my own.
    Next up we headed to Khlong Lat Mayom Floating Market, which is one of my favourite food markets in Bangkok usually. It was so sad to see so many of my favourite stalls shut and the market looking so quiet.
    What we ate:
    Pa Tang's
    Prison fried rice - ข้าวผัดเรือนจำ
    Pad Kaprao - ผัดกะเพรา
    Pad See Ew - ผัดซีอิ๊ว
    Khlong Lat Mayom:
    Koong Ob Woon Sen - กุ้งอบวุ้นเส้น
    Directions to Pa Tang's: goo.gl/maps/NG...
    Directions to Khlong Lat Mayom Floating Market: g.page/taladna...

    My name’s Gary and I’ve been living in Bangkok for the past five plus years and travelling Thailand for over ten. I’m obsessed with Thai street food and it’s that obsession that led me to start this RUclips channel. I want to share my favourite hidden spots in Bangkok and the rest of Thailand so you can fall in love with authentic, local Thai food as much as I have!
    I’ve never understood travelling to a town or city and not eating the local food. How else do you really connect with a place? Let’s get out and explore together and I guarantee you’ll find a whole different side to this wonderful country.
    If you love seeing off the beaten path, non-touristy, local life and authentic local life in Bangkok and Thailand then this is the channel for you. If go go bars on the Sukhumvit Road are more your thing (I’m not judging) then maybe not!

      I left living in Thailand in 2015. Moved back to the UK and had to start again. I've visited once or twice a year since, usually for about a month each time. I'm due back on Jan 1st for 3 months. Can't wait! Will give the old Vlogging a go myself. I've spent a lot of time in rural Isan and some off the beaten track type places in the south. Chumphon being one of them hence the Paddy connection. He wasn't a bad little footballer believe it or not!

    Hi Gary, I hope some of your new subscribers came over from Thai Silk In France (in Thai language), And from Isaan Denmark channels as well. I have suggested your channel to their subs, as to watch A Farang's point of view regarding to Thai Food, and that you speak Thai quite well, and they could learn a little English while watching, as a bonus. I hope they like and share. I think you have good, friendly, enthusiastic, and likeable personality (just like Paddy), so, that make people enjoy watching your channel.☺️. I do hope it grows exponentially in no time. BTW, I watched you and Brian from Bangkok Musings, ummm...Brian needs to be a bit less laid back, so, someone watching won't fall asleep 😉. You and I are so similar when it comes to food. We have similar pallets. A lot of stuff you love I love and stuff you don’t I also don’t. Like I don’t like sweet I don’t like mayo. Love pad krapow moo Kai dao mai sook and all most wet noodle dishes. Also I love getting off the beaten path I like looking for places where I’m the only farang! Where my wife and I live there’s barely any farang. Only once in awhile I’ll see some!
    When I was still in Alamogordo, NM USA. We had a Thai restaurant that was amazing. She is original from Thailand and he was a Vietnam veteran they met during the war. She made most Thai food and it was amazing. Her pad kee mao was amazing and she made a basil fried rice that was beyond amazing it can’t be described with words!!

    Traveling the canals in the Bangkok area is one of my favorite experiences in Thailand. You put out many good shows in one week so I am lagging behind catching up besides dealing with my own channel and finally putting together a plan to return home to Thailand after one year, ten months, and fourteen days. Being an Italian I agree about the corn in fried rice and pineapple on pizza. Please explain to your audience why do Thais covered a perfectly good pizza in ketchup? Khao San and Nana once was enough never again.

    • @theroamingcook
      @theroamingcook  2 года назад

      Yes it’s definitely my favourite experience as well. I won’t be offended if you don’t watch them all don’t worry, it’s a lot! There are some amazing pizzas in Bangkok these days but they’re not cheap. I’m fussier with pizza than with Thai food so no ketchup for me!

    Totally agree, Lat Mayom floating market is normally crazy busy. I've been 4 times previously and what a brilliant place to go to. I never saw many farangs there which is an added bonus to me. It's just a shame it's so far from BK, BTS & Taxi ride takes about 1 hour. Have you been to the Train Market by Seacon Square? It would be great to do a video down there on a Saturday night, also go into Paradise Park and film the Siri market, it will make great content ;-) I used to work in Thailand for 4 years, miss it so much...waiting to come back in 2 weeks if we get our QR codes in time.

    • @theroamingcook
      @theroamingcook  2 года назад

      Yeah, no farangs is always nice 555. I’ve never been to the original train market, that’s well over an hour for me…it’s like going on holiday. There’s a famous roti stall in Paradise which is great. I’ll get over there soon and do a video. I’m really glad you’re enjoying the videos and I’ll be keeping your fingers crossed your qr code comes in time 🤞

    I follow a bunch of expat RUclipsrs in Thailand and Your one of my favourites. Cheers to Paddy for sending me here.
    Regarding the restaurant stops on tours in Thailand I always am afraid that the guide or driver stops at his friend or family business (which is fine) just to sell average and over priced food. I don’t mind that it is his friend or family. What do You think about that?

      So he wasn't pushing it on us and that's the great thing about Ohm's tours, he knows everyone so it's more authentic. But yeah, it can be a problem for sure. I've have some bad experiences!

    • @theroamingcook
      @theroamingcook  2 года назад

      Not weird at all Brian. Everything would be included in your tour price but please bear in mind that if you book through a tour company a lot of them pay their guides a meagre wage so they rely on tips. If you book through Airbnb as an experience, the host gets everything minus the fees. A tip always go a long way 😃
