It is criminal.....CRIMINAL!...that this video isn't getting the views it truly deserves. The quality is off the charts. The explanations are off the charts. The camera shots are off the charts. Probably the best how-to video I've ever seen on RUclips, seriously. Major props, and best of luck on your channel!
What's criminal is him advising do it yourselfers to wrap a hot battery terminal in a shop rag and setting it aside in the engine bay... You should edit that part out and start with step 1 DISCONNECT THE BATTERY!!!!
So many clips, wires, parts & more parts to remove & secure out the way to staunch your oil leakage which is endemic to the e38’s valve covers that you almost say the hell with it… but don’t because low and behold we have this yTube video which shows you exactly what to do… and not to do… I am truly grateful.
AR you are an extraordinary mechanic, a fabulous, well verse, eloquent and intelligent (thinking and speaking) instructor-speaker, clean and organized. I love your video. I will work on my car 200 BMW M-740i. today June 10th, 2021, you have deeply inspired me. I would like to know if you have, by a chance a video on hoe to replace my starter. Thank you so much. keep showing us your passion for this field. Eduardo
Hi from New Zealand. I'm about to have this done (with me assisting I hope) on my 97 540i and have watched a couple of other videos. Thanks for this, this is by far the clearest video. Really appreciate the detail and attention you provided.
Man thank you so much, it gives me a great feeling to know you are getting so much benefit from my video! Consider leaving a "Super Thanks" tip and stay tuned for more e38 videos!
the most detailed and thorough process video. I was struggling with the electrical boxes on top. Got frustrated. But your video is superb. Your videos should have mega million viewers.
Well you know, it is what it is, maybe one day when the algorithm notices my channel I'll blow up and then everyone will say I was an "overnight success". Joke is on them, I've been a success for a while now 💪🏾
Good video. I hate those little connector clips but your point about taking it slow was great. It got me through it, no problem. I did the driver side without removing the injector box but had to do it on the passenger side. Thanks for posting this!
Great vid, this is my next project on mine next few weeks. Off subject but I just installed a new updated lower timing chain tensioner, old one was weak not much spring to it. Very easy to do (15 min diy, one bolt) Hugh upgrade for longevity of timing chain components.
I'm doing an M60 today and jammed up with the brake fluid reservoir in the way as well as the power steering reservoir. I've got to figure out how rmto move them aside.
Sir thank you so much for a great diy tutorial. I watched a few and I love how in depth your detailing was. Thank you very much for the time you took out to help us help our E38's ❤
Great content, probably one of the better and detailed explanation on m62 VCGs i have came across so far. Any chance you might be coming out with a upper timing case gasket video soon?
Hello Ar, thanks for taking time to make all these videos to help us. I'm on the east coast Maryland and I have a 2000 E38 740il (100K miles original owner) with an oil leak from the timing chain covers. I love to work on my cars but I don't know if this is should be left to the experts. Any advice will be welcome. Thanks (Mauricio)
I lost the square piece for the positive termimal on top of the valve cover opposite side of the oil cap what do I do can i just tap off the end of the postitve wire to move the car around
Just subscribed. Good video! The purist M62TU owners would like a video on repairing the self leveling components (ride height valve etc( located on the rear axle. This is found on cars with EDC/SLS.
Great video. Here’s a weird question for you, or anyone who might know. I’m mid way through doing the job on my 1998 E31 840Ci Sport. I have owned this car for nearly 20 years and it only has 27K miles on the clock. I’m pretty sure no one has been into this engine before. I have made a weird discovery! On every single one of my Oil Spray bars there is only ONE nut holding the down. On every single one this is the very FRONT nut. The other studs that the bars sit on have no nuts! So they can lift a bit with just your finger. I had figured this must be ‘normal’ and how they are meant to, given the above. However, I then saw in your video that your four spray bars have nuts on EVERY single threaded post holding the spray bars down. You have 16 nuts, whereas I only have 4…..I don’t think my engine has been opened before. I’m totally confused! Any ideas? TIA
@@ARPerez I contacted a shop and the guy told me that replacing the valve cover gaskets would be “putting a bandaid” on the problem and that what I should do is replace the timing chains for $6k instead…That doesn’t sound right to me.
Maybe this news will be surprising - but in Europe they drive on the same side as in the US. 🤣 Only in the UK do they have the steering wheel on the opposite side.
There's no special trick my frustrated friend, with that one you have to feel it, like Luke with the "Force". But seriously, it's patience and perseverance. I suggest a good flashlight, some sort of mirror and a magnet along with a thin 90degree pick tool or hook tool. May the Force be with you.
@@ARPerez yo I got it. the window to even see what you're doing or get a pick in is teeny tiny cuz of that wire conduit to the fuse box and it didn't help that apparently my clip was rusted to the injector collar so even when i had it it would not budge. i was SUPREMELY frustrated in the dark trying to do this at like 11pm lol but thank you. also my torque wrench only goes down to 120in•lbs (13.6nm) so I just used the ugga dugga scale. gave her about 3/4 of an ugga dugga or 1.5 uggas seems good enough to squish all the grommets but didn't strip anything. Not all the beans, maybe just one lil bean..

Thank you, very good details on the injectors clips, and the studs and nuts differences
Yep, often overlooked
Superb video!!!! Instantly subscribed... a little bit of courage added to work on my e38 ;)
That is awesome to hear, that is why I make these videos. You got this bro!
Nice job boss . Will do mine this Wednesday - feel a lot more confident after watching this - thank you !

Get ‘er done!
Exceptional good video! Finally tackled this job on my '96 735i.
Thank you for this great tutorial!
Thanks for the kind words, please subscribe as this helps me out a ton
Nice and professional job bro

Good job with the video Mr Perez.
Appreciate you wholeheartedly my friend. Thanks! 🙏🏽
can you push the injectors back on with the 4 clips already on? thanks, great video
Great video! I was wondering if you could make a video on how to tighten the handbrake on the e38?
great video man thank you :)
So glad it helped you out! That's why I do this, to be of service to the BMW community
Amazing video, I learned some details and tricks that helped, thank you🙏🏽💯

Oh thanks man, if I get around to it I will
great video, can you push the injectors back in with the 4 clips already on
Yes absolutely!
Just in case someone finds this, it's good to tighten up all the oil rail bolts and they are 10nm torque spec per the Bentley Manual.

I’m not comfortable with anything timing chain so I leave that to the experts

Yeah that should work
😊thanks you for it am going to be doing my 740il soon ❤
Muy buen vídeo, enhorabuena
Great video my man. 🙌
Appreciate it!
AR, any suggestions for getting the rear passenger side clip off, i can't even see it! thanks
Sometimes a quick firm pull on the entire electrical box can do the trick, but do at your own risk
Just subscribed. Good video! The purist M62TU owners would like a video on repairing the self leveling components (ride height valve etc( located on the rear axle. This is found on cars with EDC/SLS.
Yeah mine is not equipped with that...
Thank you very much
Tip: Do the upper timing cover gaskets while you are in there. They will fail at almost the same time as the valve cover gaskets. Ask me how I know ;)
Any videos on this job?
Great video!
THANKS!
do they sell just the injector clips?? i might as well buy all of them and just replace
If they don't sell them you can always go to a junk yard and pull them from any motor
super fantastic
Thanks!!!! 😊
Where does the metal ground wire goes under or top of the coil not the brown ground wire I know that goes on top of the coils I just dont remember
Under
How long to complete the job being to end?
Depends, when I film these videos it takes longer, so I do it over 2 days. You can get it done in a few hours
Thank you
Excellent video! Even though I might have my shop, do it instead of me.
You can do it! It’s all just patience and hand coordination
Sometimes you got to take the gloves off I heard that. Nice work my friend.
If you know you know

That's is weird, BMW QC department must have gone to get schnitzels and beer early that day.
This video turned me into a mechanic
You and me both
I was going to attempt this, but now I’m not so sure.
I get it, go at your own pace
@@ARPerez I contacted a shop and the guy told me that replacing the valve cover gaskets would be “putting a bandaid” on the problem and that what I should do is replace the timing chains for $6k instead…That doesn’t sound right to me.
Well what’s the problem? Oil leak?
@@ARPerez Yeah. From old, compromised valve gasket cover seals I’m assuming. Worst on passenger side.
I would say if your chains are not making noise take it to another shop. A simple valve cover gasket is not an excuse to do the chains
