This is the least fuss setting up process that I have seen for the ELRS yet. Everyone else seems to be all about connect this, flash that, get configurators... as you say, all a bit nurdy and full of gotchas. My set up is on the way.... and I will look forward to your flying demo vid. Cheers!
Lora really does spell the end for conventional rc control, the benefits far outweigh any minor cost difference. I only wish ELRS devs would do an S-Bus version with at least 10 working channels, currently I use Siyi for the same Lora long range performance (to 250mW level) and having S-Bus opens up virtually any FC or converter module for up to 16 channel PPM. 5 Channels PWM is ok for basic planes, but outside certain FC protocols just doesn't give enough for things like camera switches, pan and tilt or submode switches that long range builds really need. Still, it's early days, so maybe sometime soon it will happen. Cheers, and thanks for posting.
There are a few ELRS Rx's that offer 4-6 PWM outputs. Matek is only one that I know offers option for more, up to 10 PWM channels. Take a look for Matek CRSF (crossfire) to PWM converter. Note: CRSF is the protocol that both Crossfire (900 MHz) and ELRS (ExpressLRS) use, so the converter adaptor board works with either. Popularity, and the Chinese New Year may mean a bit of wait if just ordering.
@@StefanNaewe I use different flight controllers for fixed wing that don't support CRSF, and have no problems with signal inversion, they just use straight normal S-Bus, in that sense it's perfect, plug & play with 16 channels giving RSSI, speed, better failsafe and full channel spread resolution as standard. Inverted S-bus always seems to be a quad FC problem including it's fixed wing sub derivatives.
Nice coverage of ELRS Andrew, great to see you supporting a project that was originally born here in AUS. 💪 Keen to see how you get on with it in the air. Feel free to contact me if you have any specific questions or issues, would be happy to help. Also FYI - the LBT functionality was recently merged to the mainline branch, and should be in the next major release for those in the EU 😀
Sweet, thanks for the info Wezley. Steep learning curve at the moment. Can you tell me if AUX1 stays as 2 pos (for arming) with both wide and hybrid modes? It didn't seem to change for me.
@@AndrewNewton AUX1 is always 2 position, yep. It is also highly advisable to use this channel for arm if you are using switch arming, as it is sent in every packet.
That's great to hear @Wezley Varty My only real issues with ELRS are frequency non-compliance and not having LBT. It's good to hear the project is looking to change this. After that, I'd just want 3 more full resolution channels, for pan, tilt, and flaps. But is sounds like progress is being made.
@@MrD I’m not sure what your needs are (you may very well need full res channels), but check out CapnBry’s (Bryan Maryland) video on wide switch mode. It’s near-indistinguishable to full res channels unless you have very decent servos on your pan/tilt, and would also likely do for flaps. Still not full res though, so as I said, it may not cover every use case.
@@WezleyVarty I have seen that video, and could see the difference on the pan demo. But also, that pan demo was just using a standard 120 degree servo. If, like a lot of people, you go 180 degrees plus on the pan, that resolution will only get worse. Not to mention geared setups with 360 degrees of view. Also with flaps, if they’re part of a crow braking setup, they need to be as smooth and reactive as the ailerons. You quite often see pilots constantly changing the crow, to get the plane down exactly where they want it. The wide mode is an improvement. But it’s not were it needs to be. To be honest, I’d be quiet happy loosing a bit of latency to have full res channels. The stupid fast latency is only really needed for racers. For long rang or planes in general, it’s not important. All major RC links, especially the LoRa systems, have perfectly good latency.
I started using this with quadcopters because I was so sick of the FrSky XM+ firmware issues. If I have to pull them to update firmware, I might as well pull them and replace with something better. I flash them with binding phrase, which was initially a little confusing but easy once you do a couple. They're so cheap that I bought a few of each type, powered and flashed them. They're all on the workbench ready to go. Bye FrSky!
Will this receiver bind to the radiomaster micro module? Bought 4 of them and can't get them to bind , don't know too much about erls got some micro receiver bind no problem
I dont usually get onboard with stuff like this, but I just got a TX and Rx cos they are cheap. Well Stunning doesnt even begin to cover it. But Elrs is not for everybody, its for quads or long range with an FC mainly. I fly out to 4km and in between and it never goes below 100% packets at 100mw. And telemetry never drops out.
Andrew: I just stumbled onto this video. Missed it initially. You did another GREAT job illustrating the steps to install! Your views of the TX16S are very clear and easy to follow. I hope you install this or another of the PWM Express LRS receivers into the Eachine Flying Fish and evaluate this plane and receiver type for sloping and other purposes. So are you sold on the Express LRS solutions or not? Jim
Love ELRS / INAV for long range with the Zorro ELRS radio. The PWM Rx is fine for any LOS model and I did test it on the Razor sloping. But I still prefer normal FrSKY setups for most

Hey Andrew, if you select “Wide” switch mode on the LUA, you get a lot better resolution on the AUX channels. Still not full resolution, but plenty for most applications.
QX7 needs the same “inverter mod” that crossfire needed to work correctly at 400k baud. You can set the baud to 115k as suggested, or flash EdgeTX to the QX7 which has “one bit” mode that works around the low-spec inverter on QX7.

Yes, all ELRS gear should work with other brands.

Andy. I was ironing my shirt while watching this. It looks like the gear is plug and play, you didn't have to flash anything, is that right?
It worked out of the box as a 5ch PWM setup, but I may have to flash CRSF firmware to the receiver to use with a flight control board.

I think it should ! My QX7 is a early ACCST version

It fits and sort of works. No telemetry and Lua Script cant connect, dont know why yet. Might be something to do with QX7 bauds.
Telemetry and Lua working now. Had to change the QX7 Baud to 115200 as in this page www.expresslrs.org/2.0/quick-start/transmitters/tx-prep/

Do I need the Lua script to use the ELRS system in my T16 radio?
Can get by just using the OLED screen, but the Lua gives more options, and is essential with other ELRS modules.

Maybe twice the range but I have never gone far enough to test it.
