    Planning ahead is so so important if you’re studying alongside doing any
    type of work. The end of semester can creep up fast and suddenly everything is due at the same time 😅I got into the habit of finishing my assessments 1 week before they were due ( happened accidentally one time as I thought the due date was a week earlier 😫) & it’s the best thing I ever did.
    Loved these tips ♥️

    Oh my gosh... back in 1982 I took Chinese history as well. There must be something about professors that teach this class. I fell in love as well. Politics aside China has always been one of those places in the world I've wanted visit. Mr Mann was the nicest kindest professor I had in college. On nice days we'd have class outside. Thank you for being back such a wonderful memory.

    I wished I saw this video before I started uni. However, I don’t regret what I’ve learnt and experienced throughout my 4 years of uni. I was completely online before Covid 19. I was completely used to being fed the information we needed to know as well as doing my own research. So it was a bit of a shock when lecturers placed emphasis on our own readings and came to class asking questions based on what we’ve read instead of feeding us information. That’s why the acceptance letter said “read for your degree” 😂. So definitely the point about readings as well as knowing you’re own reading and note taking technique is crucial. Thanks for this Macerly!
    All the best on your future endeavors !

    I'm also going to a foreign public university in Europe for my masters. First thing that I did was opt for the local language course since English is only spoken at university and local language and culture dominates the everyday life. Also its better to have a formal approach for peer interactions and then become informal when people know each other properly. I have also chosen university housing since finding accomodation for foreign students can be a daunting task and focus on academic pursuit will be diverted.

    This is my 4th year in university. I have no social life. I am drowning in homework, all I do is study. I work only 1-2 day a week to provide for the bare necessities and live a crappy quality of life. I take the least amount of classes possible to receive scholarships and grants. At the rate I am going, I still have 2-3 years left. I don’t understand what I am doing wrong. My professors care a lot, but can be so critical and logical, and I feel as if I have worn their empathy thin. I have gone to them for help so many times, but now I feel so burned by them that I can’t bring myself in front of them again because it just hurts too much.

      @@AHalfDeadDuckee what do you want to do with your degree? You have to have a balanced life. Meaning time block some time for socializing. You are at an age where you need to learn to navigate social situations so they aren't all new to you in the workplace.

    • @abbylynn8872
      @abbylynn8872 Год назад +3

      @@AHalfDeadDuckee you also need to take advantage of campus counseling to take about how you are feeling.
      Unfortunately you've chosen a degree and minor that requires a lot of critical thinking, reading and writing as opposed to actively doing or performing a task to learn the concepts.

    • @abbylynn8872
      @abbylynn8872 Год назад +3

      @@AHalfDeadDuckee for study and balance look up time blocking. I had my student employees do this. 7 days a week for every hour tell me what you are doing. Am schedule, travel to classes, classes, break, snacks, lunch, dinner, study time, grocery shop, work, work break, travel home, group study, research time..... then are you making the most of your study time or is it a disorganized mess?
      There is a free Coursera by Barbara Oakley on Learning how to learn. Plus a video here on RUclips. Stop and take the time to listen and review the course. It will definitely help redirect you from the traditional way we think of learning. The holidays are here so you should be able to do this over your break.

    My first term at uni has honestly been a bit of a mess. I understand that I only have to pass my first year, however I’m not used to not getting top grades, especially in a subject I’m so passionate about. I’m finding it hard to reach out to both academic advisors and people on my course just to make friends. It’s very lonely and a huge leap in expectations/standards, so I just really hope things get better in my second term.
