I used to be the person saying: "Is anyone else watching this even though they are not in highschool yet". -- I am now entering my first year of college and can not get over how quickly it happened.
me too it's insane how fast HS was
I was about to comment that but wow. Time is a scary yet amazing thing
No cause I’m literally in shambles thinking about how I still remember sitting in elementary school saying that college was so far 🤡 bout to start my first year in like 2 weeks
@@penelopebarajas1245 I still remember when I thought how far away HIGH SCHOOL is back in elementary schools lol
I remember watching college videos in early 8th grade. I'm a junior in HS now-
wait what??-
" i want us to be the most financially literate generation of young adults to ever exist " - will keep this in mind for motivation
Unfortunately, very little if any of that literacy is taught in school.
@@thechairman74 completely true but there are numerous helpful youtube videos for college students. They've been extremely helpful to mr personally;)
@@katiasapoznikova4067 yeah i feel like we’re lucky to have this information readily available at our finger tips.
@@thechairman74 some schools are finally recognizing the importance of it! I’m going to be a freshman in high school this coming year, and my high school just started requiring a personal finance for their main program this year!
@@katiasapoznikova4067 Thankfully, some schools are starting to see the importance of financial literacy by learning the importance of financial literacy the hard way. Last year my school started to require a personal finance and economic science class. Before the classes were required, I already knew some of the material due to the fact that I literally had to teach myself how to handle money because NOBODY was teaching me, and I was sick and tired of constantly being broke and out of money.
*if you’re a freshman in college, it’s okay to be stressed at first but remember that you will get through EVERYTHING no matter how easy or hard it may be*
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Random but do you know if AP exams are the same difficulty as college exams?
@@geewoni i do know and they are not the same difficulty actually! i believe AP exams are designed more for more questions but not necessarily harder :)
@@EXENED ahh wait so college exams are harder? And thanks for the reply :)))
I’ll come back to this comment next year, after my first year is over
Advice about studying (and this one might hurt): stop highlighting, stop making aesthetic notes, and stop rereading. There are lots of people on RUclips who have talked about the scientific literature surrounding active recall, but the two best methods are spaced repetition (like anki) and self testing (practice problems and practice tests). This is especially true if you’re doing any sort of science or analytically minded classes. Your recall and problem solving need to be on point to do well on some exams that can go quite fast.
Very true. I lost so much time doing these things, because that's what worked for me in highschool. But at uni, you do not have the time to do these things anymore. Active recalling, test quizzes and loads of practice questions are the only things that will make you pass an exam.
@@kazakukog that’s exactly where i learned all this
I even stopped using highlighters on the last sem of high school mostly because it was consuming too much time (we didn't have exams lol)
cannot stress this enough!! it’s such a waste of time! on tests there are rarely super minute details that you need to remember, it’s much more big picture
as an upcoming freshman with a declared science major, thank you!!!
single exception to the textbook rule: if it's a workbook that the school/professor has designed, buy that early because you're probably gonna need in class/get homework from it
agreed lol, i think it's some sort of money scheme to make everyone buy their book but they will require it haha
The worst is if they changed textbooks are versions. Then you are forced to buy the new one.
"You are there because you are qualified to be there."
Thank you! I recently got accepted into one of the top universities in my country and I know I worked so hard to get in (tears were involved). When I got in, everyone seemed so talented and has achieved so much more in life than me, even though we're around the same age. But I know I'll get through the insecurity and learn from them.
That quote of hers really relates to me as well .. considering my case is a bit different than yours, I am in comm undergrad , going to my 3rd year now , and I actually trying to switch my major and uni as well .. going to a stem degree , because I have always wanted to be in a stem field .. so I am going to sacrifice two tears in order to start a new , and that major and uni , I applied to it and surprisingly , I got accepted !! But not the final approval yet but got in :) so I hope things go well for me and you and trust me , college life really isn't as hard as people say and just as we said , we got accepted because we are qualified to be there 😊😊
ive been in your exact position before and looking back on it I’ve found that everyone else feels the same, they just hide it.
@@norealleehab2043 do u know something.
When most we can see is swimming pool, it is no wonder ocean isn't scary.
There's a lot to explore and we are all swimming pools in ocean.
@@yashaswikulshreshtha1588 that's definetly true , I agree😊
Update : I backed out from switching in the end but .. I was able to discover many things about myself and trying to figure out my career choices and foing what I love later on , I discovered I have a passion for learning languages ☺ so I am thinking of pursuing another bachelors in a foreign language , so even though I did back out (due to financial reasons and stuff) , I was able to see that it was an eye opener for me to experience thongs I didn't think I would experience , if I hadn't backed out
The difficulty jump from high school to college in classes like chem and calculus and phyiscs is BIG. Maybe not for humanities/social science classes, but for STEM classes, absolutely beware T.T
Thanks for scaring me! I start my stem degree in 2 weeks. 😳
I'm scared af
Though it depends on your highschool. Mine had a pretty rigorous stem program, so the college stem classes were a pretty smooth transition. I personally felt that the workload, although a bit heavier, was easier to manage since you only have 5 classes, rather than the 9 everyday.
Yeah, my school has a prep program in the 2 weeks leading up to the fall semester specifically because of high failure rates in entry math/science classes, so it's definitely something to be aware of! As long as you take some time to preview the content and flesh out an organization system though, you'll be fine!
I’m about to start engineering 😰
i just graduated from high school and i’m scared that i’m actually much dumber than i think i am lol

another tip: make friends both in your major and outside of your major. having friends with the same major has helped me immensely with career-related and academic advice, and it's really amazing to see so many people who have the same interests and aspirations that you do. however, i've found that socializing primarily in my major (since it's compsci) sometimes creates a level of pressure and imposter syndrome, since a lot of compsci majors don't have a lot of time or interests outside of their field. i think this would apply with premed as well, since i know a lot of the study community is from there and it requires a lot of dedication. (props and big respect to y'all tho, it's super hard and important work.) anyway, it's important to socialize outside of your major so that you have an aspect of your life that isn't tied to your future at all. it's really easy for your studies to take over your life and it's easy to forget to have fun, and having friends outside of your major helps a lot with that. college will be hard at times, but u got this!
as someone who's gonna go to college this fall as a freshman, thank you so much for this !!! this makes me feel a little better about college. :) ❤️
good luck this fall!
I’m going this fall too😭
same! binging these college videos rn haha
@@britneynguyen718 same, it's literally 3.30am😂
Hey! Me too! Starting my college this year😆 i am so excited😁
And also remember that a lot of people are overly qualified for certain non-“elite” universities and colleges. Just because you weren’t accepted to those “elite” colleges doesn’t mean you’re not qualified for them.
“if you got all 5’s on your AP exams you should be fine”
me with my 2’s this year bc my AP teachers didn’t help us much during the pandemic 😭
Literally
I took 7 aps and didn’t pass a single one (all 2’s) but I took actual college classes during high school and got A’s so I think we’re okay 😭
@@ashleyperez196 Think of it this way. If/when you have to take those classes in college, the content should at least be semi-familiar, and you'll know how to better study for it compared to last time. Don't stress, you got this!
Here’s the thing about that, as much as it sucks that you technically wasted money paying for that test, the college education you get will be farrrr better than your high school AP test. I thought of it like, I would MUCH rather learn this stuff in college with a much more qualified professor than pass this in HS and forget the information immediately.
what’s AP
the fact that I used to to binge watch “things you need to know before high school” and now I’m watching this video about to enter university is crazyyyy
I hate communal bathrooms however drying off in the shower will prevent most of the puddling and wearing shower shoes will help transiting those wet spaces. As for shower shoes, I prefer something with some stability like Okabashi or Crocs, the regular flip-flops I would use as a last resort or backups.
this!! but don’t leave your crocs wet because they will start to smell
Why not regular flip flops?
I actually bought "shower flip flops". They're like regular flip flops but they have holes in the bottom so that the water doesn't puddle or feel uncomfortable while you're wearing them. They were probably one of the best things that I got for school 😂
@@serenalizinnqui8474 They tend to slip off your feet too easily in the shower because they act like a suction cup when wet.
@@JohnFourtyTwo Ohhhhhh, gotcha
The biggest difference for highschool vs college from my personal experience was that there's less classwork and more homework depending on the class. I didn't know was going to happen when I started college, class time was mostly used for lecture and taking notes and all of my assignments were worked on outside of class.
I suffer from imposter syndrome bad and it’s kind of interfering with my ability to get excited about the school I’m going to. I really appreciate the advice in this video and the reassurance during that part, it’s really nerve-wracking but watching videos like this makes me feel more prepared :)
literally counting down the days until classes start for me and as a freshman I am mildly terrified so thank you for this
me too
update ??? i start college next month 😭
same😅
ips
same i hope it’s going well for you😭 i have 24 days until i move in
The realization that I have to survive as a college student in less than a month just hit me, but this made me feel so much better about it, thank you!!
18:57 I love her point about this. One story I heard that really helped drive the point is "I learned quickly into the industry that i hated being a lawyer. but I thought I should continue because I spent so much money and time in law school. I continued being a lawyer for another miserable 50 years. I wasted 50 years doing something I hated when I could have stopped right then."
side note for pre-meds, the part of zero memorization doesn't really apply in your case :,)
PLS😭
Oh okay :'D
Going into my second year of college I’d definitely say don’t believe what high school teachers say a lot of the time we where told your college teacher won’t except this when in reality most are super laid back and late a lot of the time in my experience
anyone else not going to college any time soon but going to watch the whole thing anyway?
Heheh ofc
me sis dont worry 🙋♀️
absolutely.

Here because I’m graduating in May and I’m scared shitless
I'm so nervous, I'm gonna be a freshman this school year:")
Don't worry, you'll be great

It will be an exiting year 🥺🥰
As a TA I can confirm I tend to be more understanding towards students who I see more often 😆😆 also I’m 100% with jasmine on the personal finance camp PLEASE do yourself a favor and learn the basics
Get a planner! I'm not in college yet, but I'm homeschooled, so I still structure my own days. I've been using a planner for five years, and it helps organize things and it's really nice to be able to cross off the things you've accomplished.
This, I feel like this is an advantage for us online school & homeschoolers. Unlike regular students we don’t have irl teachers looking over us to do our work. We teacher ourselves to do it & become independent/responsible.
As an online student, I totally feel this! Extremely important for self motivation, so you don't get overwhelmed
This also depends on what kind of school you go to, in the larger state schools professors won’t be as leniently as they deal with hundreds of students. In smaller schools with a much better teacher student ratio it’ll be much better
I’m starting med school in a few months now. Watching this to prepare myself! Thank you for the tips.💕
Oooo Same !
congrats on going to med school, you're gonna kill it :)

@@studyquill could you make a video all about your major if you haven’t already? I would LOVE that!
@@studyquill thanks love!💗
I remember watching these kinds of videos for high school freshmen, now here I am about to start college :,)
I used to watch these videos all the time as a junior in high school before I even applied now I’m a senior about to graduate and go to college which I can’t wait for
lol same
Yes to the boundaries!! College gets overhyped with all the parties and you should not feel pressured by "friends" to participate if you don't want to!! Know your boundaries and know that you're not alone! :)
UCLA students! (and possibly other college students as well if you have it) if you've ever had a counselor recommend to you to run an audit for you major, I highly recommend! The audit shows you exactly what classes you need to take for your major and what requirements you've already met, as well as how many units you've completed/have left to complete!
I start as a freshman in August and even though I'll be living at home for the first year, this was super helpful!
same! but i think for us the making friends part is going to be harder compared to those who will live on campus so i’m glad she mentioned ways to make friends that don’t involve dorms 😅
This'll be my second year in college, and it's safe to say, I'm a person who lacks SERIOUS motivation.
I've done things that'll hopefully help me through out my second year, and this also helps, thank you.
me, a seventh grader going into eight grade: ah yes, this is exactly what I need
just for future purposes...
man do i miss seventh grade
@@warmblanketlover me too- im only in 10th, but i wish i did so much more with myself
@@beatrice1089 okay I’m going into my softmore year in college and I wish that I did more with myself in tenth grade too.
But DO NOT WORRY you still have time okay! So if you want to do something like Idk whatever you want to do that you’ve wanted to do. Go ahead because time will flyyy and before you know it you’re a senior!
SAMEEE
The bit at the end about seniors being the only people who have spent a full year on campus hit really hard realizing how much time in college Covid has changed 😭
You really should not buy books before checking with your professors. I've done my first semester now, and for all my courses my teacher either provided a full digital copy of the book or made scans of the readings we had to do.
