  • definitely not what i usually post about, but i feel like i've seen comments requesting this for years. so here we are. tips on running from ur local track & cross country team mom. ↓↓↓
today's video is all about how to get into running and become a lifelong runner. we're starting with the most basic advice for beginner runners & walkers, including essential supplies and how to choose a running route and avoid death. jk you won't die i promise. i think the most important part though is the section on staying motivated and committing to making exercise and health a lifelong habit. this is different from my usual content, but as a long distance athlete who strongly believes in the power of improvement, i just wanted to share this for anyone out there who wants to work on themselves and needs encouragement. :)
and just to clarify - i do not run D1 at UCLA. i was recruited by several D3 schools, but i prioritized my academics with my college choice. i am NOT fast nor committed enough to this sport to run NCAA D1 lol.

Hey just letting you know, if somebody is judging you for how fast you can or cannot run or how you look while running or anything really, rather than feeling sorry for yourself feel sorry for them. So let me get this straight: This girl got a 1580 the very first time she took the SAT, got into UCLA, got a 169 on the LSAT *WITHOUT STUDYING* AND WITHOUT EVEN WANTING TO BECOME A LAWYER! Now, she is talking about how she became a fit recruited distance runner in three years....

    • @cookiesarelikecream
      @cookiesarelikecream 2 года назад +381

Her SAT score came from a lot of studying though and she’s always been very diligent about school. I find that a lot of people aren’t as diligent about school when it comes to a study schedule and just aim to get the homework done, which is why they may have to retake the SAT. Her entire channel is about giving us study tips. She got into UCLA because she never stopped working hard and committed to many different extra curriculars, not just track. Her high LSAT score makes sense because she is very intelligent and the LSAT is more about scenarios and reasoning rather than memorizing facts. She’s done so well for herself but I do think that these are things that anyone can achieve if they put their mind to it and stick to a schedule.

I just did my walk this week and set a personal best of 1.66 miles. I know that's a very small distance, but I'm proud of myself. I had to stop because I had recurring knee dislocations on one of my knees ( found out that the grove of where my knee cap fits is flat on both of my knees and had to get surgery one one of them)my doctor doesn’t recommend me to run anymore to prevent more injury .I still miss running and whenever I see people running I cheer them on. I first started cross country because I didn't want to play baseball that year and I thought to myself: oh, I run a lot at practice..
I knew the coach and he recommended me to start, so I did. I started in the middle of the season like two weeks before the first race.
    ..I couldn't run a mile..
Did that demotivate me? Not at all. It was a learning experience and I loved it. It was something I could improve on. The people I met also encouraged me and so, I encouraged myself. The first few practices were really REALLLY bad.
The greatest piece of advice my coach gave me was to never stop running. It didn't matter if you were going really slow, as long as you kept going. Soon enough I managed from a 10 minute mile to a 6 minute mile.
I recommend running to everybody and it's truly changed my life and I can't wait for it next year.

Running is high impact sport so always be careful if you start running as exercise. Running also a patient sport so always be patient when start running, start slow never immediately run fast, even you have start with fast walking if you never have running exercise before. Start with fast walking regularly then mix fast walking with slow running. In time reduce the walking and increase the running. Then after getting better in run you can running without walking or even stop longer than before

i’ve been playing volleyball for two years and i was always the first one to ask to sit down and take a break first since i can be considered the least athletic among the team since i have very VERY low stamina, after watching the video, i’m really motivated to start run again :)

i have extremely bad stamina but im the most athletic amongst my friends who can do long distance
i dont think stamina depends on how athletic you are, or maybe it does since the more you run, the more it will increase.
idk , maybe its just me cause half of my movement is running
i get rlly bad cramps and chest and side pain when i run for a long time, 2 mins is the longest i can run

Oh my word, this was such a comfortable and approachable video!! I honestly hadn't even thought about the fact that I might feel awkward starting to run in public but I 100% will and I loved your little tip :) Thank you so much!!

Once I had an epiphany - I can actually run in the evening/ night! And it worked for me) I feel amazing during that time of day and in the beginning it helped that it's dark and less crowded outside. But you gotta feel really safe in the neighborhood for that!

I hate running so much, I took up a sport where running isn't even used much for conditioning. I still want all the secrets!

Thank you for mentioning the people judging thing, that’s always been an issue for me and I really appreciate hearing that it’s not just me and that it’s truly not that scary!
