      Maja Batorczyk It's a matter of health, actually. Having a proper breakfast is healthier than putting on makeup. Food is fuel for the body. It's not that your priorities are different, it's just that you are stubborn and don't like people telling you what you should do, even if they're right.

    • @azurabun0
      @azurabun0 6 лет назад +82

      Poppy Blue I know it's often pushed that breakfast is the "most important meal of the day" but that's not actually the case. it's okay to skip breakfast or have something small if you don't have time or if you don't get hungry in the mornings (I don't).

    • @ohwellwhateverr
      @ohwellwhateverr 6 лет назад +71

      @@poppyblue1512 Actually it's healthier for your metabolism if you don't have breakfast. The whole "breakfast is the most important meal of the day" idea is a very successful marketing campaign by Kellogg's cereal company.

    Brilliant Paige! I loved your vlog.
    I took Math & Physics at Cambridge - 50 years ago! It is so interesting to see what has changed and what is still very much the same.
    We did not receive handouts (I wish we had) so we had to take notes by hand. Dr Smithies (linear algebra) made that really easy. He essentially wrote a textbook on the board, including numbered sections, subsections,.. However, another lecturer (who I will not name) was the opposite. He wrote the maths, derivations and proofs, at furious speed with his right hand, while his left hand had a board eraser following about 6 feet behind!
    Social life was a little limited. We had to be back in college before the gates were locked at 11pm and we had to wear gowns when we went out at night, as well as for lectures and dining in hall. All the colleges were single sex, with about 20 men’s colleges and only 3 women’s colleges. Fortunately, there were also the teacher training college, Homerton, and the trainee nurses from Addenbooke’s hospital. 😊
    But so much in your video was very familiar. The colleges and parks look just the same, of course, and the system of lectures and supervisions seems the same. Oh, the workload is the same too! 😄
    Finally, you look great in those glasses, both intelligent and beautiful.

    For anyone wondering what this would look like as a humanities student: pretty much the same but time spent in lectures/seminars here will be spent in the library mindlessly staring at a laptop screen and/or book, willing yourself to write something. Whereas here you see work actively being completed, be prepared to spend no more than 20% of your time doing something productive and leave the other 80% to existential thoughts and deleting sentences you have just written.

    • @AA-tb3zz
      @AA-tb3zz 2 года назад

    • @flaviadeluce8141
      @flaviadeluce8141 2 года назад +1

      @@AA-tb3zz As a physics student with a looot of extra maths lectures I can say: math is only straighforward if you have the solution. If you try a prove a mathematical statement, you easily sit there for hours with five different approaches, spending your time deleting your first tries and really doubting your intelligence and everything you know. The same goes for theoretical physics which is basically the same, whilst in experimentalphysics you don't even know what you should do because it's all so messy. I'd say: existential crisis everywhere :D

    Now, this is a realistic day in a college, and now I see what it is like for all of my friends that really work and give everything to studying. I'm not one of them so I admire them.
    I would probably just end the homework the same day or probably the day before I drink some energy drinks and do it in a rush. It's not healthy hehe...

    I like the fact that we actually got to see some of the campus and you actually studying rather than your skin care routine/yoga/gym/going out of the campus to a party etc. Very satisfying to finally find a video where the student actually shows their student life. Great job. The only thing I missed is clips of some lectures, that would've been awesome, but I totally get if you're not supposed to film there.

    I wish I could be as hard-working and productive as you... I didn't accomplish enough on my first year, I didn't make any friends, I got severe anxiety and depression, I'm also a perfectionist which makes studying really hard and slow for me 😐 and still after all this time I tend to think that my studies are more important than my mental health...

    • @MatthewTaylor86
      @MatthewTaylor86 5 лет назад +31

      You shouldn't compare yourself to others - aspirational studytube is great but not if it makes you feel bad. Compare your today to your yesterday. Even if you do 5 minutes more study or social interaction than yesterday, you've accomplished something! Also, perfection doesn't exist. Don't worry about being even close to perfect. Doing anything is better than nothing! All the best

      I am a medical student and when I started my first year I had extremely high expectations from myself (I was a good student my whole life, but omg I was not prepared for the reality), so obviously it didn't work out as I planned. I got a few low grades and I was so upset that I decided to go and raise 2 of my grades at the end of the year, and even tho I was so scared I still did it and it worked out in the end (ngl, looking back now I can't believe I was so bold in my way of thinking - I basically believed I couldn't possibly fail). Then, in my second year I actually failed an important exam and that really broke me, because I knew what dissapointment was (from my previous year), but I didn't really know what failure meant, until that point. After that, I failed another big exam, twice, and I had to retake in the summer. I passed all of them fortunately, but omg I cried soooo muuuch, I was beating myself up & comparing myself to others constantly, which is very unhealthy (it also didn't help that my teacher for that exam I failed twice made fun of me for basically failing exams, and point blank asked me if I want to continue medicine bc looking at my grades it sure doesn't look like it - and that affected me more than anything). So then and there, I decided to just stop studying for grades, even tho the system & a lot of people tend to encourage that. Sorry for my random rant, but I wanted to tell you, whoever you are reading this, that it actually, truly, really gets better. I LOVED mg 3rd year. I studied bc I wanted to know more, I helped patients in the hosptital, I learned more efficiently. A month ago I started my 4th year and I am definitely in a better place mentally. Huh, after all this essay I am motivated to go and do my ortho homework haha

    I've watched the video one day at Harvard by Sienna(can't remember last name) and it was basically she doing her yoga, explaining her diet, making her bed and I was like Jeez how you got into Harvard and do you guys learn something? It was so unrealistic because I can bet that Harvard students have really busy schedules and everything they do is about school, school and only school. I mean which college student has time for yOgA? C'mon. This is more realistic and you are such an inspiration. Keep working hard.😉😎😎
