Oh my goodness!! I can relate. It was so strange a feeling being a Prince fan in my heart as a kid in the early 80s, I couldn't be really open about it because of how Prince was.... Strange thing how on the one hand Prince taught me everything I needed to know about sex and sexuality, but yet I lived in a repressed environment of Catholic home and school. It got better when Prince became a household word when *Purple Rain* was released... But even still, those were some repressed times....i just wish I learned to be more open and speak up and not be so shy and timid all the time. Being that way really did go against me in life. I always applaud people who speak up even when everybody and everything else tells 'em to sit down.

This is the one song that turned me into a life time Prince. I stayed up late in 1981, watching this video. His early stuff was wayyyyyyyy better than after purple rain. Y'all just don't know. Man, I went to high school deep in the hood. It spoke volumes to be blasting Prince's music on your boombox, drawing attention to yourself. I didn't give a fug!
Sure did. I loved Prince back then. It was decades before you could have such lyrics in music without offending everybody. Dirty Mind album was so rebellious for its time, I loved it
lauren 100% agree, sometimes Princes tremendous talent was overshadowed by his bigger ego. Its a shame it took his death to really appreciate his genius on RUclips.
W Lee His videos weren't on RUclips because he didn't want them there. No one could get Prince's music for free. He was extremely intelligent. As much as I love that I can watch these videos Now, I know he wouldn't have wanted these videos on here.
Prince at 22 years old. Already on his 3rd album where he has written and played all the instruments on all 3. He set a standard that will never be matched.
YAAAAAAAS! He was so ahead of his time. Created a totally new genre of music, too. You can really see the punk/new wave influence here. Really liked that he pushed all the boundaries in his earlier music.
Man! This is one of my all-time favorite videos and songs by Prince. He was so raw, funky, and nasty back in the controversy era. This is the underground artist during a time when he was breaking all the rules as a black performer. I had never seen anyone like this before or after this awesome video. New wave, rock n' roll, and funk are all here! This man was so full of life and drive.
@Dunbar F I agree with you, however, I have duality with your comment. Yes, PRINCE was heavily influenced by the great Little Richard which was one of the originators of rock n' roll, a brilliant showman, as well as a performer that broke the rules in terms of sexuality. However, Richard was gay, and PRINCE made it very clear that he was all about loving the females in a very romantic, yet lustful way. I didn't dig PRINCE'S outfits back in those days, but that cat was so damn funky and driven that it was hard to deny him! He came at the funk with the same masculine in your face type of force as James Brown and Jimi Hendrix! So he made it possible to get away with all of that shit!!!
And I really get tired of all the Michael Jackson fans that try to put him in the same orbit as Prince. Prince was so much more than just a pop singer and “dancer.” During this era Prince was a New Wave Soul singer, he changed into more of a Rock guy next. Then he morphed into a blend of Pop/Rock. You never got the same thing from him and that was something that we had never seen before, and still haven’t seen.
Thank you to the Prince family and Estate for unleashing these classics on RUclips! Now a new generation can finally understand what we already knew; Prince was the GREATEST!

@KOMET MARTIN Really? The last time I remember seeing/hearing it broadcast (in the 80's) was on Night Flight back in 86'. That music video show loved them some Prince!

Ashley White Prince music back then was considered to ex rated for the youth of my generation back the. You had to be 17 yrs old if you wanted to see him in concert & when the movie purple rain came you has to be 17.
If you listen to Prince in 1981 such as his 'controversy' album and even 'The Time' I feel this wass him at his most authentic self. You can hear his 'mature' sound from 1999 onwards but also he had that cynical and street edge he had from before. *Controversially* I think this was his best year in music creatively and this song epitomizes it best. The rhythm guitar, the funky bassline, the slapping drum beat and the rough yet tasteful synth textures. A product of a genius which is a hurricane moving at a *100 mph* that moved on as quickly as it arrived. If he just held off one more year, released 1999 in 1983 and did an 'inbetween' album as an incremental improvement on this style we'd be talking about a hallmark album which was the perfect blend of funk/new wave/post punk/indie. Ultimately Prince had a little to give for everyone and that was his best quality. RIP to arguably the GOAT.
The first time that I saw Prince was in this video of "Sexuality" and when I heard that scream of guitar after "Mama, are you listening?" I remember to have said "hey, what Hendrix's got to do with a dance song?", it was genius and soon he became my absolute idol. 💜
Been with his Royal Badness since 1978 when I was a junior in high school!! I can STILL my mama saying cut that shit down!!! Miss him much!!!💯🔥🔥🔥🎸🥁💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
PRINCE- innovator, musical genius , lyrics phenominal, this punk -funk fusion was one of the 1st songs i ever bumped in my 67 mustang coupe back in 81.i miss that era.
Powerful message and performance. The truth and boldness in his statements and their delivery. This track epitomizes Prince, especially during his rise. Unstoppable.
Lived in Minnesota my whole life I was a teen when prince was up and coming in junior high we had all his music and high school purple rain hit best times ever !!!!!! So fortunate to grow up with prince 💜
Prince really put his all into this!! & Just look at those moves, & just listen to that voice!! No one could ever compare!! &, Of course, Prince was so gorgeous & sexy!! The words in the song made some good points!! I love this song!! Prince, from the start of the song, gets you really excited & into it!! Thank-you, Prince, for having given us so much, & for being the forever one & only true Master!! We'll always remember you, miss you, love you, & charish you!! May you always shine in heaven like you shined on this earth!!
Lol it's so obvious how Prince was the ultimate live performer. He laid down his tracks in the studio but when he performed live you couldn't predict how he might change a verse, sing it in a different key or tempo. It was obviously a struggle for him to lip sync his own song exactly as it had been recorded in the studio lol.
+Vaughn ONeal Totally agree, but it was also what frustrated me most about him. He would reimagine the song and perform a much better live version so then I started to like less the studio version. Dammit, Prince! 😁
My brother taught our pet parrot to do the Prince screams you hear to open this song. Everytime I hear this song I think about both Prince and the parrot, which too is sadly gone. But it still brings a smile to my face. Song still kicks, too.
Prince showed me/ gave me permission to own and celebrate , discover, explore ...and OWN... my version /beliefs of MY sexuality. R.I.P wise one......miss you.
So ahead of his time...rock it Prince and the band. Pocket camera haaaa - cell phones now. He's always been so deep and in tune to Life and got his message across loud and clear with no fear!
Pammy - Prince was a White boy with Black blood in him. Lol How do I know because I looked like him or so I've been told for most of my adult life. In the 80s when I was young that's all people would say, one time I dated a Black chick who said I looked like a White guy trying to be Black. Lol Another said I looked like the guy in the movie Soul Man. Smh-Lol It would irritate the hell out of me that people could be so idiotic and racist, but what the hell are you gonna do. I can't beat them up or go around beating them up because then..... But I realized that as I became older that people like myself and Prince are mixed with a lot of White blood in us which is why we look the way that we look. So, to me, Prince with his music could have easily gone the Rock route if he had wanted to because this song here demonstrates that ability, but he wanted to prove his Blackness as I did early on in our lives. So, he played more R&B type of music, but I wish he had played much more Rock music. Sorry, didn't mean to write all of this.

This was my idol I wore this out fit to school and the girls dressed like Vanity 6 this was the best era of music 👏👏👏
Go Ahead Prince !!
U Bad As You Wanna Be !!💯✨✨
The nerve, brillance and courage to pull of music and style like this! You a bad mother Prince.
It's impossible to categorize Prince as an artist. He broke boundaries and made a gumbo with his music
Years ahead of his time. Priceless footage.
Preach 🙌 the message to parents and politicians 🙌
The first time that I saw Prince was in this video of "Sexuality" and when I heard that scream of guitar after "Mama, are you listening?" I remember to have said "hey, what Hendrix's got to do with a dance song?", it was genius and soon he became my absolute idol. 💜
This is What They call VINTAGE PRINCE!
4-21-2NEVER! The beginning of his Genius.. Love you for Life💜
Prince is a Gemini. Classic Gemini's twin. Love him, miss him but he is with us everyday.

Yep me to I was jamming private joy
One of his most underrated jams ever!
THAT SPLIT ! YESSSSS!!!
One of my favorite tracks from the Controversy album! Thanks for putting this up!
"Controversy" was the Best Selling Album by Prince from 1981 via Warner Brothers Records.
Mine's too. I always wanna get up and jam to this.
PRINCE- innovator, musical genius , lyrics phenominal, this punk -funk fusion was one of the 1st songs i ever bumped in my 67 mustang coupe back in 81.i miss that era.
Happy 66th Birthday Prince🎂🎈
Prince introduced us to a new revolution of music.. he was brilliant
To all my peoples, y'all know Prince was early!! A man ahead of his time, (musical legend)
That split was everything! So good :)
Revolution of a new breed STAND UP ORGANIZE!!!! I'm in heaven with these videos!
Powerful message and performance. The truth and boldness in his statements and their delivery. This track epitomizes Prince, especially during his rise. Unstoppable.
Keep the videos coming! Cant get enough Prince!
Everytime I hear this song, I see bit of this video, especially Prince's little shimmy in the beginning.
I love you Prince ♥
Rest in peace
One of my favorite songs ♥
Lived in Minnesota my whole life I was a teen when prince was up and coming in junior high we had all his music and high school purple rain hit best times ever !!!!!! So fortunate to grow up with prince 💜
This dude was an *absolute champ* in dancing in heels, and pulls off to steal girls hearts easily at the *same damn time.*
*this album is so good.. If you like pop rock and punk and funk this for you*
"1981"my favorite! Prince album and cover💜
The rhythm guitar playing on this track; killing.
New Wave combined with Funk!

AWESUM!!!!
My brother taught our pet parrot to do the Prince screams you hear to open this song. Everytime I hear this song I think about both Prince and the parrot, which too is sadly gone. But it still brings a smile to my face. Song still kicks, too.
Somehow I can actually picture that! Sounds really cool! 😁

Phantom Shadow I can actually picture that! Sounds really cool! 😁
These Lyrics are soooo Prophetic!!!!
Classic!
I love his screams! That's when you can that he's getting into his work as a musician. Too serious!
My LP faves by him (all masterpieces imo) Dirty Mind, Controversy, 1999..
When you started to feel we got a real bad ass on our hands…a JB/Jimi hybrid, the one and only Prince!
All these years later, the lyrics are still 💯.
Prince is killing it.
long gone but never 4gotten but this song and video rite here, is the very reason why Prince was a musical genius. Wow!
I played this track more than any of the others from Controversy...( With the exception of Private Joy )
this song was SO GOOD that I wanted it to keep going after it faded and the drums came back in.
I'm being overwhelmed!
So electric and at the same time raw and funky ! no one can do this but Prince.
Prince showed me/ gave me permission to own and celebrate , discover, explore ...and OWN... my version /beliefs of MY sexuality. R.I.P wise one......miss you.
Me to I use to play his music to get in the mood
So ahead of his time...rock it Prince and the band. Pocket camera haaaa - cell phones now. He's always been so deep and in tune to Life and got his message across loud and clear with no fear!

Whut?
No flash, again?!?
@@Einnor084 We need a new breed, stand up organize! Fuck it, sexuality is all I'll ever need!

I look VERY SO CALLED black & I LOVE da side of Prince, dat iz Rock & Roll.
Itz 2 bad we haveta b obssessed wit color.
Itz a double whammy, dat typez of muzak, have color/ethnicity, attached. If I am nspired by sum Reggaeton, I should b able 2 use it, & a countryboy, mite like how I used it, without having 2 b lambasted 4 likin sum of dat R&B trash. Perhapz, DUH peephole, who r runnin DUH scamz, don't want us comin 2gether, bcause then it'll b 99% against 1%. Gotta dvide, then we CONquer.
I'ma b free wit my muzak! I don't care if a green gurl iz sangin. If da beeyatch got soul, I'm up n here, like EF Hutton! Ya heard?!?
@@tubucoco I really enjoyed 3rdEyeGirl, I think that he was his most authentic. He was full on Rocking it with the women in the band at some point I mean jamming hard! Not funk, rock. I wish I'd not passed up on tix to see that show here to this day. A friend said the guitars were non stop so tells me he was rocking/rolling.
Good analogy, he was many different people....😉✌💜and many sides to the Purple One.
Prince spoke truth to power
I have followed this beautiful man all over the world 🌍 i have every blessed album of his and memorized every blessed lyric to every blessed song❤i must confess that everytime i listen to this song...i have nasty thoughts
Gotta love his trademark sound
I LOVE COMING BACK TO THE OLD JAMS!! PRINCE YOU WERE/ARE THE MOST ORIGINAL, IDGAF ARTIST, THAT NO ONE WILL EVER COME CLOSE TO ALL OF THE TALENT YOU HAD STORED IN YOUR GORGEOUS HEAD!!!!
