Oh boy - you missed a whole life-changing experience, IMO. I saw the Controversy Tour with Prince, Vanity 6, and The Time (Prince produced and wrote most of their music). It was an all-time memorable performance for me and I still remember it as such - even though I was about ~15 and now I'm 54, LOL. IMO, Prince was THE most talented musician in almost the whole history of Rock - but was never at all just limited to only Rock - as he knocked it out of the park with Funk and Soul too.....
On December 31, 1999 I was working with my colleagues, keeping an eye on IT systems in case of any crazy unexpected Y2K issues. There were none of course. Not quite the party I was imagining back in the 80s when this song first came out, but hey it was still a memorable night with food, non alcoholic drink and good friends. Thank you Prince for all the great music. You were one of a kind.
Amen to that ... and I remember that night, because while you were watching the computers, I was at a huge house party, getting sh-tfa-ed .... so the following day was Not a fun day for me... and I never drank again. Music is best enjoyed sober! ;-)
@@groofoot For some, for others it's enjoyed in good company with a drink in hand. I don't like getting shitfaced, I like getting to a comfortable stage.
I listen to a little bit of everything, but the pop, rock, alternative scene of the 80s was the greatest. Sadly most of the performers that made it great are no longer with us, and that's genre general. I'm a huge fan of the Outlaw movement in country music of that same time frame and outside of Willie Nelson, Hank Jr, and David Allen Coe they have all left this world behind. Jones said it best, "Still I wonder, who's gonna fill their shoes?" Prince, the Van Zants of Lynnyrd Skynnyrd, Freddie Mercury,Tina Turner, Michael Jackson, Waylon, Haggard and countless others who not only gave us music, but the soundtrack to our lives.
We have lost all time greats after all time greats RIP to all of them I wasnt that expose to Prince before his death because his music was hard to find but now that I have I see what the guy was all about a genius in his own lane
Today is 21 April 2018 and I'm enjoying a self-imposed Prince Day. I am jamming in as much of Prince, his music and interviews as I can fit into 24 hours. I'm also enjoying the flood of generous and loving comments posted all over the net - Prince is truly loved, adored and appreciated by millions of people who recognised his god given talent, creativity and ability to evolve as the musical creative genius that he was and the man that he became. Prince was one of greatest humans that graced this earth, he is a shining example of how to live your purpose by living your passion and being the very best version of yourself and at the same time supporting others to do the same. It is said that we are as close to each other as our thoughts, Prince you may not be here in the physical but know that we all feel the beauty of your omni-presence. We are drawn to you like moths to a flame and bath in your warm purple essence that constantly pervades our days.
The guy was a god in the 80s, so so good. His guitar skills were something else & his colourful personality is something most singers these days haven't got. RIP to the legend
@@TheSecurityCamChannel Prince's most iconic songs all come from the time when he was with the revolution. No shade to the NPG but the revolution came up with prince and helped him build his legacy.
I listen to Prince practically everyday. His music is an integral part of my life. Last November, I stumbled upon his album LotusFlower. I LOVE it. It was only released selectively so that is why I missed when it initially came out. IT IS FANTASTIC.
Far from it. His songwriting I way overrated. This song is not a good one. Neither are purple rain, where doves cry or raspberry beret. Red corvette and manic Monday are great, glamorous life is very good and nothing compares is good. Tell me some other very good songs he has written. McCartney, Lennon, Simon, Joel, Springsteen, petty, Jeff Lynne have way more talent.
@@GuitarMan1117a Way more talent?! Utter nonsense. For a start, none are as chameleonic or multifaceted. As a live act, Prince goes to toe-to-toe with ANYONE and as an instrumentalist he's on par or superior to everyone you listed. While he was guilty of rushing material and phoning in lyrics a touch too often, to suggest he only has a handful of decent songs (hits or otherwise) smacks of conjecture. Your comment in general reeks of stale, rockist snobbery... anymore rote picks from the classic rock cannon you'd care to share?!
sperrotta91 McCartney, Lennon, Joel, and Simon have much more songwriting talent and much more singing talent than Prince. So tell me some other excellent songs from the purple rain album. You thing PR, where doves, raspberry, 1999 and let's go crazy are examples of good or very good songwriting? 1999 and where doves have mediocre verses and they really don't even have bridges or choruses.
I will always love this awesome song. My daughter played this song on her record player until it was almost worn out. One of the greatest songs from Prince. He will always be in our hearts forever.❤🎸🎶🎶
Completely subjective, there's so many good artists and bands that it's not even possibly to say who's the most talented 'cause every single one of them are the most talented in some aspect.
I will never forget being almost 14yrs old on new years eve of 1999, we played this song at our neighborhood party over and over that night, it was beautiful. There was this fear in the air of y2k, but none of us really cared, we were dancing the night away. Prince, my purple one, thank you for all that you gave! I love you forever and I know you weren't ready to leave this world.
i worked tech support for an internet provider. two of us were actually scheduled for the phones in case of y2k trouble. the entire crew was there tho, and we were all pretty blitzed. was not the only song that got played, (both us and the street party outside), but it did get cranked probably a dozen times on either side of midnight. no fear vibe. people were kind of excited about the 2000s (so long as the computers were indeed fixed); more like "the 80s/90s will go on forever" feel, at least in my world. anybody: know that whenever people think good times will roll forever, that's when you start watching the horizon at lot

There are certain 80’s songs that give me an overwhelmingly painful and bittersweet sense of nostalgia. This is definitely one of them.

I'd say prince is the greatest artist ever followed by michael.
Both Prince and Michael were messengers. Your here now so you think the earth was destroyed January 1, 2000. Well it was. Soul separated from body (Giving up the ghosts) Listen to the song by Immature (giving up the ghost.) You plugged to a matrix and the earth is no more.

Sheila Barringer. I love all of Prince song's they take me back to when music was music they don't make music like they used to
My only regret is that i never got to see the GOAT most talented musical artist live in person. RIP Prince!
I saw him twice, including the Purple Rain Tour. Unbelievable live performer.
Me either! So very dumb of me, glad you all did though!! 🎉
Happy heavenly birthday Uncle Prince
On December 31, 1999 I was working with my colleagues, keeping an eye on IT systems in case of any crazy unexpected Y2K issues. There were none of course. Not quite the party I was imagining back in the 80s when this song first came out, but hey it was still a memorable night with food, non alcoholic drink and good friends. Thank you Prince for all the great music. You were one of a kind.
Amen to that ... and I remember that night, because while you were watching the computers, I was at a huge house party, getting sh-tfa-ed .... so the following day was Not a fun day for me... and I never drank again. Music is best enjoyed sober! ;-)

Prince, Michael Jackson, David Bowie, Leonard Cohen and more... sadly, all gone. May their music live on for ever. I thank them all.
George Michael, Whitney Houston and Michael Hutchance (singer of INXS)

Hey you forgot Tom Petty!
I'll never forget Dec. 31 , 1999. Biggest party of my life at the Steele Pier. Mr. X
We were all waiting to see if all the computers were going to shut down due to Y2K.
I played this song on my car radio New Years 1999 ..full blast at Midnight…brilliant song

Classic song
Prince good singer and performer very underrated like a few other artists.
1999 still a party anthems and still rocking now 2024.
What do you think "underrated" means?
It does not mean "Universal Godlike Status"
Undoubtedly the most complete entertainer that has ever been existed.
Idk man Freddy and Micheal are forerunners for sure. These types of artists are in their own sort of echelon, incredible stage presence.
I'm not getting dragged into a debate with a Fisher Price rock fan who listens to nothing but...

The year 2020 has brought new meaning to the phrase "Party Like it's 1999".
It's been 36yrs since this album dropped. Without argument the most influential artists of the 80s.
No Argument!

Ranked up there with the greats to me.
Even Greater than Michael Jackson or Elvis. He stood up against itunes etc, what makes him a Legend anyways.

Panda Pantz I’m only 23 and I wish I was there fr long time ago was the music
Aww I’m in love with that memory
i worked tech support for an internet provider. two of us were actually scheduled for the phones in case of y2k trouble. the entire crew was there tho, and we were all pretty blitzed. was not the only song that got played, (both us and the street party outside), but it did get cranked probably a dozen times on either side of midnight.
no fear vibe. people were kind of excited about the 2000s (so long as the computers were indeed fixed); more like "the 80s/90s will go on forever" feel, at least in my world.

I’m listening to Prince 1999 2/4/2024

I was dreamin' when I wrote this
Forgive me if it goes astray
But when I woke up this mornin'
Could've sworn it was judgment day
The sky was all purple
There were people runnin' everywhere
Tryin' to run from the destruction
You know I didn't even care
Say, say, 2000-00, party over
Oops, out of time
So tonight I'm gonna party like it's 1999
I was dreaming' when I wrote this
So sue me if I go too fast
Life is just a party
And parties weren't meant to last
War is all around us
My mind says prepare to fight
So if I gotta die
I'm gonna listen to my body tonight, yeah
They say, 2000-00, party over
Oops, out of time
So tonight I'm gonna party like it's 1999
Yeah, yeah
Let me tell ya something
If you didn't come to party
Don't bother knockin' on my door
I got a lion in my pocket
And, baby, he's ready to roar
Yeah, yeah
Everybody's got a bomb
We could all die any day, aw
But before I'll let that happen
I'll dance my life away, oh-oh-oh
They say, 2000-00, party over
Oops, out of time
We're runnin' outta time
So tonight we gonna party like it's 1999
Say it one more time
2000-00, party over
Oops, out of time, no, no
So, tonight we gonna, we gonna, whoa!
Alright, it's 1999
You say it, 1999
1999
Oh, 1999
Don't stop, don't stop, say it one more time
2000-00, party over
Oops, out of time
Yeah-yeah
So tonight, I'm gonna party like it's 1999 (we gonna, whoa)
1999
Don'tcha wanna go (1999)
Don'tcha wanna go, oh (1999)
We could all die any day (1999)
I don't wanna die
I'd rather dance my life away (1999)
Listen to what I'm tryin' to say
Everybody, everybody said party
C'mon now, you said party
That's right, everybody say (party)
You can't run from the revelation, no (party)
Sing it for your nation, y'all (party)
Dreamin' when youu're singin', baby say (party)
Telephone's a-ringin', mama now (party)
C'mon, c'mon, you say (party)
Everybody, do tell me (party)
Work it down to the ground
I say (party)
Thank you!
thank you for this, because i'm always heard
"2000-22, body odor is out of time"

I love the fact Prince was only 5'3". I swear he was 6 foot tall. He was so big on the stage, and it turns out he was one of the hardest working performers out there. He worked hard, he was bad ass!
So far he remains the most talented musician in modern music. The man played almost 30 instruments. He could sing, dance, and was a hell of a songwriter and a producer. Nobody to this day even comes close to the breadth of his talent.
