I couldn't agree more - except I do mind Wendy. Aside from Morris Hayes, Dez was the greatest sideman Prince ever had. He was also the greatest Prince guitarist. I got to see this band live 3 times - once on the Controversy tour and twice on the 1999 tour. I will never forget it.
@@christophertracy2807 - True! However, Wendy did hold her own! She may not have been as polished as Dez, but Prince liked her! I never understood why Dez left in the first place. He had that vibe about him! Wendy brought more pussy to the band after Lisa! Pussy always gets attention! Peace.

@@zkrhmn I think they were probalby friends on a certain level, they had both been through some of the same s**t growing up, and connected on that. But they probably had to get through some things that a lot of young artists, and people in general, have to go through.
The moment the whole persona came together. Purple, guitar, funky groove for days, the charisma... Then 1999 opened him up to the MTV living room... Then Purple Rain put him in front of the whole world. This right here is the birth of a supernova.
Hello! I did not comment on this masterpiece because of the spiritual aspect. PRINCE became a supernova because of his firm belief. No one can touch his funky side. I will never forget his energy and skills as a musician. The PURPLE LOVE ASSISTANT
“Controversy,” much like Prince himself, refuses to be pigeonholed into one category: it’s a timeless dance classic, a psychological confession (“People call me rude / I wish we all were nude / I wish there was no black and white / I wish there were no rules”), and an unflinching social critique all in one (“I just can’t believe all the things people say… Am I black or white, am I straight or gay… Do I believe in God, do I believe in me?”). Running more than seven minutes on the album version, “Controversy” is a shining example of his soaring confidence and ambitious compositional skills.
I don't think there will ever be anyone to compare to him.....My ALL time favorite artist. Not many can flip their albums over and 99% was written, arranged, composed by (themselves)Prince. The genius that was wrapped in this one man was beyond our time.
Genius!!! He took all what people were saying about him and turned it into a song, but dig he created the curiosity and the controversy with his persona and how he dressed and want some more controversy, he said the Lord's prayer in the song.... to stir controversy.. love him.
I just can`t believe all the things people say -- Controversy Am I black or white? Am I straight or gay? -- Controversy Do I believe in God? Do I believe in me? -- Controversy Prince all day!
S. Little actually Prince Rodger Nelson was warning us years ago when I listen to the song when I was younger I didn't understand but now I have knowledge and knowledge is power to gain wisdom.. Prince was brilliant and they wanted to take everything away from him he will always be in my book one of the most valued honored human being on this Earth and especially when you tap into your spiritual...
Prince scared people with his music, and it wasn’t just the lyrics, he knew how to transfer emotions and make people feel things they never felt before. His album Purple Rain was the one that started the “explicit lyrics” sticker on the CDs back in the day because of citizens and the government complaints to his art.
Don't tell that to the Too Live Crew.... I'm sure they thought they were the reason for the sticker, what with the whole Congressional hearing and whatnot
I agree, it was Too Live Crew, but after reading this comment, I researched and found out the politician's wife who started the sticker movement also mentioned Darling Nikki. It seems it took years to get through the courts and Miss Lady's daughter apparently was listening to Darling Nikki and her mom caught her. I was surprised because I grew up then and remember all the Two Live Crew craziness. Now, I am going to listen to Two Live Crew. Have a great weekend.
“Controversy” is the song that made me a Prince fan, back in 1981. I was eleven years old and I’d never heard anything like this before. I particularly love the long version with The Lord’s Prayer that they would play on the radio. What other artist would ever think to recite a prayer in a song? Only Prince! And he was so sincere in his religion; one could tell that. When my best friend heard it on the local radio station, she said, “KFRC is getting religious!” I just wish that MTV had played this video back in 1981. We had to wait till late 1982/early 1983 before we got to see Prince on video. Prince had the most beautiful and expressive eyes. Prince’s talent and charisma was incredible! He was already a star in this video, destined for greater things in the near future.
That was around the same time I heard him for the first time. He was different than what was playing on the radio at that time. I would always get his tapes when they came out or I wore them out.He was and still is a great artist that brought a unique style that just exploded
I was 12 & I played the $#*+ out of this album!!! Along with his other albums that preceded this one. He was a creative genius. He was so many years ahead of his time.
The most gifted artist to ever walk the planet 🌍. The world 🌎 never seen anything like Prince 💜. Some actually believe he would flame 🔥 out. Dirty mind, 1999 , purple 🟣 Rain, sign of the times, etc continued. I followed Prince from his first album to his last 😢. Nobody will ever replace him. The first 5 albums produced written arranged composed and played all the instruments by Prince 💜.
What does femininity have absolutely anything to do with how beautiful a MAN Prince was? A A MAN who can embrace both his masculine and feminine side is a VERY beautiful man. Yes jenny h I LOVE this beautiful man too. I always have and always will!
Reading all the Comments shows the LOVE a lot of Us have for Prince . when you think of someone that has passed away , you are living their memories with them .
Wow!!! I grew up listening to Prince and Im ashamed and must admit I forgot how truly great he was!!!! He had a young Elvis like stage presence and charisma. He was an absolutely nuclear weapons grade talent!!
The licks on the Guitar 🎸 are amazing, he was so beyond his time and I thank God for the gift he instilled in him. I feel this song in my soul. Thank you Prince for reaching your higher calling
If he was still with us…he’d still be writing, playing, singing more of his genius music….there’s not another artist & never will be that can come close to Prince & his style, voice, dance moves, swagger, looks….what an extraordinarily talented individual…..one of the best Artists of ALL TIME indeed!!!

💜Did you ever see the episode of the Dave Chappelle show were he dressed up as Prince? It was hilarious! It was loosely based on the real basketball match at Prince's house after an award show. They all played basketball in the clothes they wore to the show. Comedian Charlie Murphy told Dave Chappelle about that night and they did a skit about it. Prince/Dave jumps in the air while making a basket and slowly floats down...very slowly, lol. Prince was both extremely athletic and graceful at the same time. He could of easily had a career in dance as well.💜 SHIRTS VS BLOUSES...GAME BLOUSES.💜🏀💜🏀💜

I've essentially had the experience of a biracial kid even though I'm really not lol
@@troyelam8978Prince was even with MJ on singing and slightly behind as a dancer. But Prince also mastered 27 instruments just by teaching himself how to play them, how many has Michael mastered? MJ isn't even close to Prince's level overall
I know, right? He made it look easy, but he had to have been tremendously well practiced. His songwriting skills were IMO phenomenal. I'm happy he is now recognized for his superior skills on guitar, but I hope one day the world will recognize him for his absolutely outstanding skills as both a composer and lyricist.

I absolutely love Controversy! The first album I ever bought myself was Controversy. The lyrics to the song Controversy are so deep and still ring very true today. Prince was one of the few true visionaries ever to be in popular music.
Venancia Hopkins Yeah, the lyrics are so bold.
He saw so far ahead of everyone else,, n one will ever even come close 2 this!!!!
My first album was in 1981 Rick James Street Songs..........
price was like the pimp of music sexual sensual PRINCE was and still is a musical genius rip
Yeah, it was my first album purchase too...still play it quite a bit....
I still can't believe that he is no longer here. One of the most beautiful souls will never be forgotten. Continue to RIP, Beautiful One!
Glad I saw him many times....always the consumate entertainer.
Here's a clue. If he was alive, we wouldn't be able to hear his music on RUclips.

Prince is the reason I got into recording music. RIP to the greatest musician of all time who died on top of his game but before his time.
There will never be another Prince. Master of music. June 2020.
Prince was original. Nobody can replace him.
There is only 1 Prince, they try,but
There only 1Prince. We were blessed to have him on earth. God gave us his son so we could bring us love, ✌🏼 and most of all a message of UNITY. I was so grateful that I was there to witness his gift to our world. I will miss him every day. Goodbye but not for too long. We will see you once again, playing with Jimi Hendrix! Now that’s a Mutha F&ckin Party I don’t want to Everva Everva miss. I leave you my Prince with a kiss on your check - until we meet again......Peace Love and Soul! 🙏🏻
The real musician, incredible Artist. July 2020
@Brandon Moore Totally August 2020
Pure talent/ground breaking...MJ said in an interview if he had an idea in the middle of the night he had to get up or God would give it to Prince.
@ Eric Keating I actually heard that too Eric, where did you get that information from Eric?
Not in an interview.... he said that to Kenny Ortega, his ill-fated This Is It, concert director. MJ was having all these cool ideas and Kenny wanted MJ to calm down and that's when Mike said: but if I don't work with them now... God might give them to Prince.
@@manaratuddin1884 And Prince might utilize them better than MJ. We will never know at that stage of their careers.
@@Belburg in a biography people around Prince said he often called MJ his "hero"
@@zkrhmn I think they were probalby friends on a certain level, they had both been through some of the same s**t growing up, and connected on that. But they probably had to get through some things that a lot of young artists, and people in general, have to go through.
I'm certain Prince must of had a time machine of some kind...because the music he created in the 70's and 80's was generations ahead of it's time.
Invincible album also
So true...
Don’t think it was ahead of its time. It’s timeless.
SHOWS HOW MUCH A GENIUS HE WAS. HE WAS SOOO CREATIVE AND CLEVER WHEN IT CAME TO MUSIC. THE BEST EVER.
Shut the fuck up bitch...you are clearly desperate to score likes
Why is this so freaking Clean
The moment the whole persona came together. Purple, guitar, funky groove for days, the charisma... Then 1999 opened him up to the MTV living room... Then Purple Rain put him in front of the whole world.
This right here is the birth of a supernova.
PorterUk Never has the sight of a black trench coat warmed my ❤️ so much.
PorterUk. Love your wordage. You sir are correct..'.birth of supernova.
+PRN Love The black bikini briefs and leg warmers did it for me! 👍
PorterUk bruh!!! Could not agree with u anymore!!!
Running more than seven minutes on the album version, “Controversy” is a shining example of his soaring confidence and ambitious compositional skills.
good call chris lacey...
Spot on
I don't think there will ever be anyone to compare to him.....My ALL time favorite artist. Not many can flip their albums over and 99% was written, arranged, composed by (themselves)Prince. The genius that was wrapped in this one man was beyond our time.
Nice analysis
Gives me strength listening to this 💜
1981 was a great year for this classic album.
Went to the Controversy concert back in the 80’s and loved every minute of it. Prince was truly the G.O.A.T.
Genius!!! He took all what people were saying about him and turned it into a song, but dig he created the curiosity and the controversy with his persona and how he dressed and want some more controversy, he said the Lord's prayer in the song.... to stir controversy.. love him.
I just can`t believe all the things people say -- Controversy
Am I black or white? Am I straight or gay? -- Controversy
Do I believe in God? Do I believe in me? -- Controversy
Prince all day!
Yes indeed
Sarassie Little, Prince came on the scene at a very young age with a high level of consciousness. Party Up was another good one from his early days.
Sarassie Little 😎
Facts. Contrived world we live in.
Everything about this song is perfect!
Prince sings it best, Controversy. And very wise words too.
👼✌, R.I.P forever Prince.
Prince scared people with his music, and it wasn’t just the lyrics, he knew how to transfer emotions and make people feel things they never felt before. His album Purple Rain was the one that started the “explicit lyrics” sticker on the CDs back in the day because of citizens and the government complaints to his art.
Yeah, this comment of yours is quite insightful.
Comes close to putting into words the intangible of what is generally difficult to describe.
Don't tell that to the Too Live Crew.... I'm sure they thought they were the reason for the sticker, what with the whole Congressional hearing and whatnot
and back then it was LPs and not CDs (CD didn't really hit at all as sellable until 1987ish)
He didn't scare me 🤣 he was fine as hell
MsKim14 That song made me fan of Prince too
That was around the same time I heard him for the first time.
We rock this at the SPN on Friday nights 10 years old jamming in 81 baby
MsKim14 I was 9. Same.
The bridge is absolute magic. I could listen to it forever.
2:25 One of the Funkiest breakdowns ever like recorded, Masterpiece!! 🎸🎧🎹
Prince is a virtuoso on a 6 string but plays something so modest.
That's masterful
42 years and it is a so cool song. Prince is a genius: RIP.
2:57 I always loved that high pitch scream.
The screams are even in pitch and perfect.
True. Lol
2:08 as well, legendary
2021 -- and Prince is still timeless with Social History messages... ...and being the KING OF MUSIC.
I'm still listening to Prince Controversy late July 2021

He's so pretty in this video you can't take your eyes off of him.
I know..I think he is the sexiest in this video I never tire of watching him ...the ultimate performer...RIP BEAUTIFUL SOUL
He sure is, a gorgeous man, like you said, so much so you can say pretty too. Miss him so much
He looks like a smurf. If he would sell underwear on a street market, you would not even look at him!
@@DJDanceClassic U are disgusting! How dare U say something so nasty of someone who is deceased? Apparently never heard the saying "do not speak ill of the dead". Jerk
And also one of the greatest talents of our time; look at the incredible way HE played guitar, sang, but his writing of songs not only for himself but for many others will remain a feat no one can ever reach. Why did we have to lose Prince?! I know he had hip bone issues, thus the need for pain meds, I wish he would have gone to the Mayo Clinic not far from him to address the whole issue, he may have been here now :'(
After scrolling through the comments, I can't believe how no one is talking about how he practically floated off that tall ass speaker and landed all perfect with his guitar...in basically heels LOL! This guys was amazing to watch
Doing things like that are what ultimately lead to his death.
Unfortunate it was those heels that killed him. Pain killers.
@@bobfrost4134 Spot on.
It sucks now cause those acrobatics are what put him on painkillers and led to his accidental death.
"am i black or white? am i straight or gay?" one of the best lines ever.
thevoid99 Prince is killing it.
Yes! Especially for the year this song came out which was 1981 I believe 😎💜🎼🎸🎤
Yes!!!!!
thevoid99 well we knew he wasn't white.
Derrick Barnett Nobody knew what he was lol. Definitely not 100% black (no one is) but visibly different. I can relate. Even if you aren't half and half, people will still call you mixed if your skin is golden ish and your hair is slightly curly (looking the part). I get it all the time even though I'm 1/4 white. I've essentially had the experience of a biracial kid even though I'm really not lol

The title goes to Michael, Prince is properly named for his position.
@@troyelam8978Prince was even with MJ on singing and slightly behind as a dancer. But Prince also mastered 27 instruments just by teaching himself how to play them, how many has Michael mastered? MJ isn't even close to Prince's level overall
@@cranjismcbasketball1638 “slightly behind” Michael Jackson on dancing?? You’re either white or 12.
Ahhh that backbeat.....such a fantastic song, and boy did he ever work this one out live!
The magic of all of Prince pop songs is that the melody hooks you in the first 15 seconds....Pure Genius
I m 50 now. I was 8 years and completely fan and still I m. Everything on vinyl. Prince is a real Artist!❤❤❤❤
