This song has Prince's fingerprints all over it. One of my favorite songs from the 80s.
Prince wrote the song.
You don't hear his voice in the background!!!!!
The choreography in the video is all Prince too.
Yeah and he had his fingerprints over her 😜
I thought it sounded familiar and didn't know why. I played it on repeat and looking at her gestures and dance moves again, it looked even more familiar and then I went to look for the lyrics and saw that Prince wrote the song. Doooh! Now I know why 😁
The Year 1984 .We Had Michael Jackson, Sheila E ,Prince, Lionel Richie, Tina Turner ,Irene Cara ,Morris Day And The Time, Luther Vandross, Denice Williams, Cameo, The Pointer Sisters, Boy George, Hall And Oates, Debarge ,Obryan, Stevie Wonder, Too Many To Name. Great Year In Music 🎶
I was born in 84. What a great year for music.
peter wolf, billy squier steve perry
And Kool and the gang
Born 1974. This was one of my favorite songs. I miss the 80’s. 😢
Same here born 1974 and also miss the 80's we had the best music in history
Prince encouraged and promoted female musicians. Always ahead of his time 💜
I saw her & Prince live....truly unforgettable for this old person.
4out
And cha cha with them people on the street 😊🎉🎉
Yeah, promoted them right to his bed too 😂
@@LeTrashPanda Wish I saw with you Prince and Sheila E must had been amazing
this song is dam near 40 years old.
still banging
You know she doesn't need a mans touch.........
As Is Sheila Herself
Absolutely💯
Seen her a couple years ago she’s still 🥁💃
Classic
No-one gives Sheila E enough credit. She's brilliant! 5 decades!!!! 🥁🤟🎵
Saw a video of her the other day at the store with her son, looks great!!!!
This is all Prince that's why
When this song first came out, I heard it so many times on MTV and the radio it was humming in my head all day during my freshman year in high school. 😁😎
I give Shiela E Lots of credits
Prince is in Heaven
Sheila is one hell of a talented woman in her own right! And beautiful too.
Graduated college in 1983. Served in thr army as an officer 1983-1986. Lived the 80s in the prime of my life. Great song. If your feet's aren't moving, call 911.
She tore this song all the way up. Imagine being in rhe 80s and this came on in the club! My God. I know the dancers went off!
You are CORRECT!
She helped to end the Disco era ; )
Absolutely.
We sure did!!
We did!
I love this song. Shelia E. Was jamming on this song. She was the female version of Prince. They were perfect together! Rip Prince.
the finger print Prince put on music from the '80's forward was huge. And yes, i too was one of those guys with a crush on Sheila E. so thanks for that too Prince
I just thought the exact same thing. So it's true then.
@Denise Williamson You are SO correct: both Prince AND Sheila E. did great songs on their own, but when they got together, they REALLY made unforgettable music! How I wish that Prince was still with us!

LEGENDARY. That cymbal kick still gets me almost 40 years later. Pure talent and appeal. Sheila was (and still is) it, man. Incredible.
Yes Lord Shelia e
I've legitimately been stuck on watching this video for about 5 months now. She's just such a badass. And those moves with all of them simultaneously. Nice camera work. Etc. Yeah- Great video and great lyrics in my opinion.
only LEGENDARY 80's And Bad Ass 80's Vocals 💪🏿❤️👑💐
Oh Shelia 😂
And don't forget how she could bounce a stick off a drum head then catch it! ❤
Her percussion had such chaotic energy! Her and Prince together was a force to be reckoned with!!
I wholeheartedly agree. 🙂
AMEN
You should see her father, Pete Escovedo - legend.
All day Facts💯💯💯
Another prince production
The way you can hear the underlying track of Prince singing along. This is such an underappreciated song. Pure greatness.
The Glamorous Life is A VERY UNDERRATED SONG and it is A SONG ABOUT LIFE!!!
Yep, his distinct vocal is panned off-center left in the background.
Omg, thank you.
Back when you had talent, no voice alterations, filters. You sang and played and that was enough.
Well Said
Or Autotune
They did use voice alterations lol. You can actually here it 😂. However, they were definitely talented.
Prince singing wit her…y can hear it
Amen
Here in 2024…. 40 yrs later. Still 🔥🔥🔥
Me too!🌟😎
Sensuality and sex appeal absolutely poured outta Shelia E. Her eyes, mannerisms, the way she carried herself... She wasn't overt or sleezy. She kept it classy and was still sexier than a lot of others who didn't.
Classy
You couldn't be more right! She was & still is a Goddess.
Her and Prince look like they could've been brother and sister.☺💙🎶
Well said 😉
Absolutely.
I was born in 1982. I remember my mom cleaning the house dancing like the queen she is to this masterpiece. 😊
Me 85 an mama played this everyday cause I heard it one time n I was hooked I'm playing it now on repeat
Born in 80 and I do it now....miss this type of artistry

"Big thoughts.. big dreams.. and a big brown Mercedes sadaaann" I love that line ❤
The Mercedes being brown is sooo 80s luxury lol❤

She can dance
She can rock the house
And she's gorgeous
The 80s are incomparable
Damn good drummer too
great music, horrible fashion, greed took center stage as something to be celebrated & indulged in unashamedly well, look where that's gotten us
For real incomparable on all levels . Its Friday & the vibe is like a stormy monday . People are the walking lost dead now!!!!😪😪
This was before when Won they would never stepped outside & they decided that
The will never step outside looking like prostitutes
And she holds the key to Prince's Vault, too...

Yes, big time now it just sucks. Yes, I will admit it I have this song on my IPOD.
And we were all smoking dope.

I was in the 10th grade when this song came out. Smooth nights at a friend's house, going skating, or being at movies will always remind me that I grew up as a teenager in the best decade!💪💯
Cherish those memories of having fun!!
No Doubt about that indeed! I can definitely relate to that. Lol, those were DEFINITELY the "good ole days", as they say. Lol!!!
Another BAD ASS FUNKY ASS JAM From Back In The Day That Still Stands Up IN 2024!!!
I had forgotten how good this jam was. She can really play those drums. Really big sound. She kicks that cymbal like "Bam!" Too hot!🔥
She was even better live, IMO. As good as this video was, it doesn't fully do her drumming and dancing skills justice.
Ok popp0000000pp
A
Hot Babe!!!
"She wears a long fur coat of mink, even in the summer time." The 80s had its own cool.
The golddigger who this song reminds me of did, in fact, wear a long fur mink coat in the summertime in Manhattan. She was 18, grew up poor, he was a millionaire.
@@raygordonteacheschess5501 Wanting a better life doesn't make you a gold digger. It's make you smart. Poverty is its own destruction.
Own cool, for the old school! 😁💃
@@raygordonteacheschess5501 you we're speakin on this here person like she was digging gold out of you. Nonetheless, what made her a gold digger? I'm sure he was askin for sexual favors, considerin her age. So, in turn she was askin for material things-This, seem to be the narrative.
@@imnetworking2k12 You just described a gold digger. It's not a the end of the world to call what you described for what it is. Going out with a person just for money is gold digging. lol narrative?
this song doesn't need any more cowbell. It's perfect.

💯
I always loved her
We didn't. Hopefully she will be appreciated more in the modern era, I'll never forget seeing her play with Prince in concert.
I saw her live at the Howard Theatre in Washington, DC, 4 weeks ago. Trust me, she's only gotten better, & the band she tours with is incredible, too. She evolved her sound into a jazz dynamo but she still lives & loves the soul & rock.
I did 😂one of the hottest acts ever !
I love the eighties music! The videos! The clothing, the hairstyles, the dance! It was so perfectly entertainy! Key word: Creativity!
The '80s were so awesome!
Thank you Prince for Sheila E.
YEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Thank Sheila's father who was a musician the renowned Pete Escovedo! Prince had nothing to do with her talent other than knowing her!
@vincespell You sound crazy as hell..Prince is the one who got her the record deal and wrote and produced her biggest damn song ..Thats what he means. If it wasn't for Prince Sheila E. would have just been a session musician
I love how Prince's fingerprints are all over this song, the wardrobe, the visuals, etc. He really was a trendsetter. You knew if someone was associated with Prince or was trying to imitate...lol!
Listen to the Prince Originals CD
First thing that came to mind!
After all he did write the song
Ready for the world, oh shelia……definitely trying to mimic prince
That's not the only place his finger prints were !
The best era of all time 💯
Shelia E is the female version of Prince, her drumming is amazing.
LONG before Prince entered Shelia's life. she was already a fantastic musician. Shelia comes from a TOP musical/musician family.
Sheila Her Family Dad ok her music abilities . Pete Awesome Dad Ok .
When saw her episode of Unsung, I never realized how much a toll drumming took on her, but yet she STILL PLAYED...she only stopped bc she was on the brink of paralysis from her spine being messed up (drumming long hours plus the high heels)....now THAT'S dedication 😊
@@rosejones9978 Phil Collins, too.
"She saw him standing in the section marked :If You Have To Ask,You Can't Afford It" Lingere".Who else would write something like that? What a legend! I am 45 so I was able to see MTV in its prime.I miss him!
Does anyone understand how talented this woman is...the beauty is just a plus. How many ppl do u know who can tear up drumsticks like this, sing, throw them in the air and stay on beat? They don't appreciate men and women like her enough and it's sad. Instead they have these manufactured, studio chicks like Beyonce. Look at this woman...just look at her! God gifted.
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I so agree with you and am double pleased that you called out the main example of popularity over-hype.
Talent over packaging and promotion.
So true
I was seriously to young to have a crush on her when I first seen Crush groove at the age of 10
Was loving your comment until you fell into the same ol tired Beyonce hater bandwagon. When are y’all gonna learn you can praise an artist without having to compare them to another, esp Beyoncé. Are they not good enough to stand on their own merit?
She just killed it on AGT!!!! She is an ICON
Vanity was gorgeous but Sheila was right there with her. Beautiful.
That "CLAP!" on the backing drum just does it for me.
Yep. That CLASSIC Linn Drum sound that Prince made all his own back in the '80s.

Daaaannnng Sheila E was baad back in the day, reeeealll music.Thats right.
Prince's harmony on the song is subtle, but it's there if you really listen. They performed this together on one of the Latin award shows and it was extremely well-received.

Sheila's talent and beauty are unquestionable... But the amazing thing about her is how precise she is in her choreography in this video! She commands her physical space. Wildly underrated as an entertainer ❤️
+1 I am mesmerized by her stage presence. I've watched her live in other videos, the same is true in live performances. Also didn't realize her dad/brother/ were the Escovdeos. Her uncle is Tito Puente, hence the killer drumming.
She does all that, while keeping rhythm and in heels.
