It's lip sync. The biggest clue is that they fade the music out and bring the applause in to drown out the music fade - in a live performance, music doesn't fade out, it has an ending. But very obvious also is the fact that they are lip syncing over Prince's vocals. He has a very distinctive voice/sound.
I'm proud to be a Gen Xer cause we knew what funky tunes were. Sheila was so cool and smooth in this performance. I remember trying to imitate her moves.
Everyone in this video clip plays their best role. That is the reason why it's a perfect performance and I can watch it over and over again. By the way, thank you Prince and Sheila.🙌🎶
Prince vocals weren't ADDED! While Prince was heavily involved in the whole album, this is is the only track to be credited as "produced, written and arranged by Sheila E. and Prince", ergo being the only track he received credits for - but in fact, while Sheila E. sings on the track and plays percussion (recorded in Cincinnati, Ohio on 20 January 1985), all other instruments (other than saxophone by Eddie M.) are played by Prince.
Sheila E! The Queen of good solid dancemucic! Cheers from a bassplayer in Sweden! Happy New Year folks! Take good care! Jesus Christ! We are not alone - at all! A million thank's for upload Rainer Anders! Name of bassplayer please! Peace - and love! And hot damn (!) give us more! God bless!
those are my Days when Music & Prince was real ,,,....? What a beat it was...???? It sure helps with Sheila E. and those awesome Dancings.../ Only 40 Years old in three more years...
Saw them in NYC. Halfway through the set I said to a friend that this was the best backing band I’d ever seen, and that “I hope she pays them well.” Many years later I met a member of the band (the saxophone player seen here), and told him what I had said. He smiled and said “She did.” 😂 (Btw, after that phenomenal set some guy named Prince came onstage during the encore, and blew everyone away.)
The moon up above, it shines on upon our skin Whispering words that scream of outrageous sin We all want the stuff that's found in our wildest dreams It gets kinda rough in the back of our limousine That's what we are, we all want a love bizarre That's what we are, we all want a love bizarre A strawberry mind, a body that's built for two A kiss on the spine, we do things we never do Swallow the pride and joy of the ivory tower We'll dance on the roof, make love on a bed of flower That's what we are, we all want a love bizarre The moon up above, it shines on upon our skin Whispering words that scream of outrageous sin We all want the stuff that's found in our wildest dreams It gets kinda rough in the back of our limousine That's what we are, we all want a love bizarre That's what we are, we all want a love bizarre
What a fantastic lip sync performance. They didn't just go through the motions, they showed up with killer costumes and dance moves. And some really sexy audience interaction from Sheila. I guarantee those guys she touched never forgot it!
Didn't realize how much prince's voice is in this song it might as well b his whole song 💜💜💜 just knowing how great his composer skills were also writing lyrics!!!! an the a arrangement of music whole thing from dance moves 2 costumes everything was him he was a true genius 💯💜 extremely missed in the music industry (whts left of it)))) an knowing he had so much 2 leave behind as far as teaching his skills 💜💜💜❤️
Omg.. From the opening beats... Prince just drips from every note of this song.. I miss his incredible genius every day!!!! RIP PRN....you'll always be my idol💜💜💜💜💜💜
I will always love and adore you sweet n badass Prince! I seen Prince and the Revolution and Sheila E on the Purple Rain Tour in Toronto! I cried when Prince sang Little Red Corvette!! I LOVE the Minneapolis sound forever!! ❤️❤️❤️💜💜💜🔥💋🌹🌹🌹❤️❤️❤️
There's just no music like there used to be. Back in the day you had real bands with real players playing real instruments with lead singers who could actually sing with accompanying members who could sing as well. Now you just have a whatever face that fits the moment and the whole music track laid out on a computer with solo singers that don't even have to be able to carry a tune. The 70's and especially the 80's was just an explosion of talent and good music in every genre you could imagine. The world is sorely missing good music like this. Btw, I know that almost all made for tv performances are lip sync'd with recorded music.
I think we have to be really careful about having selective memories. If we're honest, there was a huge amount of junk around musically in the 80s too. I'm sure we can all think of a lot of very cynical, commercial pop that the 80s became absolutely notorious for. I do agree though that music has suffered a lot, largely because of social media. The sub cultures and scenes that produced different music and new trends have largely gone. These days, everything is on social media within 30 seconds and it's instantly ubiquitous. Young people are listening to the same stuff in America, Europe, Asia, Australia and Africa and a lot of the individuality has gone. The legendary music scenes like CBGB in New York in the 70s, The Blitz Club in London in the early 80s and later things like the Chicago House scene. They just really exist anymore. Music from the 1950s, 60s, 70s and 80s was all very distinct. You could pretty much instantly tell which decade it came from because music was constantly evolving. Pop music these days doesn't really feel like it's evolved since the late 90s / early noughties.
The 80s had some of the MOST TALENTED artists ever. Sheila E is definitely one of them !
there is almost zero talent now

EXACTLY 👍
I was seventeen. Great friends, great music, great movies, great feeling. When I die I want them to take me back to the eighties and bury me there.

Brahmacharya
Aman hit it on the head 😊
A typical Prince song, you hear him in the back vocals. It's lip sinc but who cares? I was twenty at '85😭! And now i am a old lady👩🦳🦯😭
How can you tell if it's lip syncing
Do you think it is live? Perfect lip sinc is not easy! You will present a perfect act to buy your song.

Old guy here, agreeing with being old in general. 🙂
I was 19 in '85 and I'm still a young lady 😂

Straight out of Prince’s closet.
I'm proud to be a Gen Xer cause we knew what funky tunes were. Sheila was so cool and smooth in this performance. I remember trying to imitate her moves.
Can we all just appreciate how amazing this song is.
Sheila was so damn fire 🔥

Everyone in this video clip plays their best role. That is the reason why it's a perfect performance and I can watch it over and over again. By the way, thank you Prince and Sheila.🙌🎶

Prince vocals weren't ADDED!

Yeah, we know.
And sung for a great deal by Prince…
those are my Days when Music & Prince was real ,,,....? What a beat it was...???? It sure helps with Sheila E. and those awesome Dancings.../ Only 40 Years old in three more years...
Yep. It was awesome to dance to these new tunes in the 80s even in SW CT. Kripton's, Red Velvet, Backstage, Chrystal's.
You know and I know that white boy isn't singing those parts. Prince has a very distinctive voice and style. 🤣 Still a fun performance.
Prince was a genius and unique writer ✍️ nobody today has his style!
My Sophomore year in High School, soooo much fun, best music, parties and no shooting each other over foolery! I hate that I grew up, Dayum!!! 💿🏆💯
Shiela just oozes of beauty and talent..to this very day..I absolutely miss this era..the 80’s were the best
Absolutely 😊
I wholeheartedly do agree.
Saw them in NYC. Back when we figured out what lip syncing was but we didn't care who did it and why. We just enjoyed the performance. 😂😂
My mom and l love to groove to this while we clean house.🎉❤😊
10 year old me laying on the shag carpet playing with Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes watching Solid Gold and jammin' out

Sheila e est toujours là elle nous aide à supporter la douleur occasionnée par la disparition de PRINCE 🌺
Sheila can move !!!
She used to break dance in addition to playing percussion when she toured with Lionel Ritchie in the early 1980s.

What a fantastic lip sync performance. They didn't just go through the motions, they showed up with killer costumes and dance moves. And some really sexy audience interaction from Sheila. I guarantee those guys she touched never forgot it!
You're right about that. She was smoking hot and as sexy as they come.
Yep. singing to the camera w/o being cheesy. And she didn't need to show skin for sexy.
That guy she touched was vocalist Al Jarresu noted
Background is the only Prince💜
Great song 🎵 thanks hun
KRUSH GROOVE brought me here!!
Divine and exquisite extremely talented woman!
Indeed so Michelle! Cheers from Sweden - and take good care!

I used to love Solid Gold as a kid.
The 80s and early 90s were the best. I do not know what is going on now. Radio Gaga.

Nothing but foul language and noise now! Yuck!🤢
Prince's backing voice for this song was dope

I miss these days. I remember being a kid and having a big crush on her 😂
My first crush!! Omg I still get those tingles now!
0:49 I gotta keep rewind, two of the coolest 😎 white boys I've ever seen. Loved it when I was a young boy. Their moves are effortless
Another masterpiece from Prince 👍👍👏👏

What a hair !!!!
Yeah! She looks fantastic
OMG! I love Dionne Warwick!
Das war meine Zeit 😅 das Lied kann man immer hören. Man fühlt Prince in dem Lied…
i’ll bet you the young black male fan in the audience went home after that and never forgot that Sheila E. came over to him!!!
It’s got Prince all over it.
And in it.
Princes backing vocals almost overwhelm Sheila's
But unfortunately this was playback
I love the 80s❤
Never be another decade like it.
What is the guitar player there for ? 😆
Lol the white dude miming to the Prince words
