Very good question and my guess is, if he was that far gone then...he didn't feel a thing, or shut it off, even. He could have fought the school policy (or his own)--he was the adult in the room.
My drum teacher (a man) and me (a girl) would only teach me during his lunch period. He'd eat, have long conversations with other adults who came into the room, and taught me next to nothing--seriously. It has taken me until now, age 54, for me to get comfortable with my percussion instruments. With the help of a great cassette tape (ironically, for children) that goes from simple rhythms to more and more complex ones, it's made drumming almost as easy as pie.

The Bay Area's musical lineage is blessed with the Escovedo blood and when Prince moved to Marin, he was taken in by their family and introduced to a whole world of Latin rhythm and groove. I remember this concert and the amazing victory tour vibe. Every night he brought local music legends like Sheila E. and Carlos Santana out to share the stage with him. He played so long that but for Oakland and Alameda County ordinances, I thought he'd never stop. (He literally broke the law by playing so long into the night) It was incredible and infectious. i love the chemistry that her and PRince always had together! both loved the same kind of music, both were genuine artists who loved those old fashioned jam sessions together, and the fact that they remained close all these years says something of the unique character of both. you almost cant separate the two sometimes. for when I think of Prince, one of the first people that comes to mind is Sheila! she must be feeling that loss of her kindred spirit so deep, more so than many because she knew him well and for so long! i would love it if she could help keep his memory alive and help direct this mess of a legacy he left behind! but Sheila, my friend, as a musician, you stand in your own right! a true musician! would love it if you wrote a memoir about your years with Prince and the tour of Purple Rain!

Sheila E. was such an important band mate , and even more a friend through thick, and thin, and ups and downs for Prince....They had a very unique, and respect filled complex, but beautiful friendship....My heart goes out to you Sheila for the loss of your dear friend....We all hurt over this ....

I know!!! Everybody was saying they wish he married Sheila, Im glad they didn't because they prob wouldn't have been friends till the end like they were. The love they had for one another was bar none. When Sheila heard of his passing she was on the first thing smoking to Minneapolis.

I just wish thoughts of Prince were not invoked by the stage design in this video. He was (sort of) cool for like ten minutes during the 1980's, and he always has talent. But his typical Minnesota narcissism, passive-aggressiveness and anti-social behavior just gets unbearable after a while. Even white, Christian accountants with bucked teeth and no creative skills are just as full of themselves as Prince is, in Minnesota (especially Minneapolis). It really gets tedious after a while. Sheila's such a spectacular talent on her own, she doesn't need that guy's creepy ego dragging her into that silly and pretentious world again and again and again.

Was the best concert I have ever been to, very talented and very glad I got to go with my friend♡ We have since tried to see him again but every single show sold out! Within seconds, so this show will be the last memory of our concert days♡

+Felicia Barlow Clar I remember her in the mid 80's when she opened for Prince in Indianapolis. They turned off the lights and she played with glow sticks of different colors. To say she killed it is a gross understatement. When she finished bashing those drums, I was the one out of breath.
