      Amen. There is no doubt in my mind the greatest Super Bowl halftime moment was Prince singing Purple Rain....in the rain. Gives me goosebumps thinking about what a perfect moment in time it was. The show producers were so afraid and explained to Prince that it would definitely be raining during the halftime show. They asked him if there was anything they could do for him. His response, "Can you make it rain harder?" The ultimate professional. He left us way too soon and is sorely missed.

    Lovely to see Prince just humbly playing rhythm guitar behind the majestic Stevie

    • @PhillipLandmeier
      @PhillipLandmeier 3 года назад +31

      Prince was a consummate guitarist and musical genius. The song calls for rhythm guitar so that's what he plays. It's surprising how many guitarists that play very well are clueless when it comes to playing rhythm.

    • @LukeMcCormick-cellear
      @LukeMcCormick-cellear 3 года назад +1

      I don’t think the guitar ever actually worked, at least not before the video ends. Too bad, I’m sure Prince wanted to play a blazing solo, and I’d have loved to have seen it.

    • @PhillipLandmeier
      @PhillipLandmeier 3 года назад +29

      @@LukeMcCormick-cellear Yeah, it's in there the whole time after the tech replaced the dead cable. Prince is just playing a little bright sounding chuck chuck chuck-a-chuck rhythm. Check around 4:14-4:16 there's a moment where it stands out clearly.
      He's not trying to steal the show, just be a member of the band. I think it's great.

    • @aquamarine99911
      @aquamarine99911 3 года назад +8

      @@PhillipLandmeier Yes, Prince throws in a few fills. Unfortunately, Stevie completely drowns out the last one when he calls for the crowd to scream. They wouldn't have had a whole pedal board ready for Prince to make his typical lead sounds. But the rhythm "chucks" are classic Prince funk, and add to the song, making it dirtier and more danceable.

    I was at a Santana concert in Miami, early 90’s…Prince showed up at the end of the concert, more than half the people left, I stayed cause I was coming down from shrooms. Santana came out & tried to get everyone to come back in the concert cause Prince showed up & wanted to jam a little. It was me, my best friend & a handful of people left in the audience…and Prince & Santana on stage…pure magic. What a gift.

      I'm a mid 60's hard rock/metal head. Growing up my parents taught to appreciate music. I've always loved Prince since Let's go Crazy and that melting guitar solo at the end. Many were crowning him the new Hendrix. He would have non of that. He wanted only to be himself and share what he loved doing most with the world. That he did as good as any artist ever could. RIP Mr. Prince. You're very much missed.

      This isn't a world without Prince that what makes Prince and just a very few others so special and rare. They are forever an impact on the things that follow their short time here on Earth. He was so many things to the music world. He brought his music to us without a true genre attached. His mastery and showmanship on the guitar was Jimmi 21st century, his voice was limitless in range and tone, he brought a touch of funk into a popish dance style, his on stage dance style was off the charts, Purple Rain crossed into a realm of Metal that was an anthem for the times that will have a forever appeal, and he brought with all the talent a personality that was mysterious and shy but it also left us captivated because we knew he was only going to allow us subtle hints as to what he had going on in his mind. Ten generations from now he will be just as appreciated and Interested in musically as he was ten yrs ago.

I couldn't agree more with your comments as it was an incredible show! One thing I will never forget when Master Blaster (Jammin) started playing I realized as we were were sitting in the center of the arena on the first level that directly behind us in the stands was a huge array of sub woofers. With the band in the round and the subs behind us it was an unforgettable, amazing experience!

      Possibly the most innovative genius in soul and pop music at the time… I don’t blame him at all for avoiding Stevie, as difficult as that sounds.
      I hardly listen to new music anymore. I always get too compulsive with scribbling notes and opening browser tabs, burdening myself with responsibility to evangelize lovely vibes to others. The upside is that I have a little more space to develop and share _my own_ musical vibes… I hope.

    • @Charleybones
      @Charleybones 3 года назад +3

      This sounds like BS. Prince would be kidding himself to think that he could avoid Stevie's influence simply by forbidding his music during recording. Stevie's music has been in the airwave since the mid-60's, and Prince grew up with constantly on the radio. Once it's in your brain, you can't just get rid of it by not playing it around you.
