Hi everybody, now's the time for the good old times, where all things were simpler, the guitar jazz also . . . I think everyone knows this tune. It's an old song from Jimmy Cox written in 1923 performed by the great blues singer Bessie Smith back in the 30ties of the last century and also played by Eric Clapton and many other great blues guitarists. Now here is my jazz version of this tune. It's not very hard to play, so I think it's a good start for blues players to check some jazz sounds for new ideas. Now grab your guitar and start practicing! All the best, where ever you are, best regards from Germany

Oh my gosh, Achim, you've delivered a very fine piece of work. Blues guitar playing is still mostly a mystery to me. I need to work the frets... Thanks for the music.

Thanks for the upload, Achim... and my next stop is your shop to download the TABs and jam track! 😁 Like you say, perhaps not the 'hardest' in terms of technical skill... but blues is all about expression and, on the guitar, 'the touch' - and THAT'S the skill to learn from this lesson. You've delivered a great 'jazz-flavoured' rendition of a blues classic (almost a century old, of course)!!!
Btw, likin' your new guitar - looks like a '63-based 335 in figured? Very nice - sound and look. I was going to get a similar one last year... but ended up preferring a 345 when in the shop (2022 model, with no vari-tone) and ended up pulling the trigger on that instead. This will be a good piece to get under my chops for my new 345. 👍

Hi Nigel, it's only a figured 335 iced tea burst, nothing special, but the sound is better than from those custom shop reiussue models. Back in the 80ties I was a big fan of Larry Carlton, that's why I choose this guitar with the block inlays, perfect for blues, light distortion sounds and it has a very long sustain also. All the best from Germany

@@AchimKohl-JazzGuitar "Nothing Special..." 😆 - Well, ANY figured 335 is special (especially with block inlay)... but I agree that the Gibson USAs can often out-perform the Custom Shops. I played a couple of £5000+GBP Custom Shop 335s last year... and was extremely underwhelmed (at their build quality, sound and playability); they could NOT justify their price at all. The ES-345 I eventually bought was less than half their price and way better! The sound you have from yours is nectar - especially for this Jimmy Cox piece. If the 'film noir' theme isn't a new norm, I'm looking forward to seeing your new 335 iced-tea burst in glorious technicolour next time 😉

You're right, I always buy guitars by using my ears, but if it looks nice also, that is a match for me.😍 Okay, I only used black & white for this old school video only, it seemed the right choice to me.😎

So it’s handsomely reached 100 years, or is it older than that still?

Wikipedia says 100 hundred years, I hope this is correct, but anyway still a good piece of music.
