This lesson is pretty good!! However since I don´t have any background in jazz music I have found that the rythm is a little bit hard for newcomers. So I´ll show how to play it by counting!! 2:40 - when Achim starts playing the Cm7 chord you´ll count from 1 to 4 with your feet and you will clap with your hands when he plays a chord so you will get something like: 1! 2 3 4 1! 2! 3 4 1! 2 3! 4 1! 2 3 4 1! 2 3 4 1! 2 3 4 1! 2! 3 4 1! 2 3! 4 1! 2 3 4 1! 2.... I could describe how this pattern works but I think everything is clear

Consulted my copy of Andy Jones' book FastFoward: Jazz Guitar Improvisation whilst watching this when Achim demonstrates the more authentic sounding Jazz scales to play over each chord and they both show the same scales for the same chords! Cm7 = C Dorian and so on. Talk about music being a universal language....! Great tutorial, Mr Kohl, thank you.

Hello Achim. Thank you for these lessons. There is a lot of learning packed into a short space. I've just started part 4 of this lesson and am wondering what to do when I've learned it. To get the most out of it should I stay with this lesson for a while, trying to make my own variations, add different licks etc, to begin improvising over the scales, arpeggios I now know? Or do you think I should move fairly soon onto basics 1-6 or perhaps the BbJazz blues lesson?
Hi Andrew, your on the right way, stay with this lesson for a while and try to improvise with scales and arpeggios you have learned. You can also try to play in a different position on the fretboard, that is also a challenge. In the end, jazz playing is about improvising and to do your own thing. All I can do is to give you the tools to find your own style, but that will take some time. Working on my basic lessons "How to improvise" is good also idea, this will sharpen your ears for the sound of the II-V-I chord progression often used in jazz standards. All the best, Achim

Very very effective; so much material in so little time.There are other Genre of teaching video using a similar approach which crosses the barrier that speaking would hinder. Thank you for the hard work which appears so effortless.
Thanks Roger, you're right, it's hard work, but there are so many positive feedbacks from guitarists around the world and some guys support my channel by buying the tabs and backing track, these are the reasons why I make these videos.
