I passed my engineering exam after listening to these amazing jazz solo pieces. I could literally hear some melodies in my mind as I wrote the exams, the music calmed my mind down. Thank you sir Andy Brown.
This is also a players dream audience...ALL of these folk were there to Listen which is RARE. Usually there is someone with the Flu sitting in the front row coughing and clearing their throat thru your set...wow!
folks don't respect artistry....great live music is so accessible now that it is taken for granted - usually these are folks that never tried to learn an instrument harder than their cell phone.
Jazz is pure and this why I'm here. Pure music is very hard to play especially for guitarist. You don't see a jazz guitarist yelling around he is a guitar hero. They just put their head down, play and humble.
You don't see them yell around they are a guitar hero because they're not showmen. Most jazz musician gets too absorbed in their playing. That's why a lot of people who can't understand jazz don't go to see jazz musicians. Whereas in music like in rock, a lot of people go to see rock bands even if they don't know how to play guitar or know music theory because in rock music -specially in live rock music, a big part is the performer to audience connection. Jazz musicians play for themselves and the music, "guitar heroes" play for the people.
Not always true. Many are jumping, squatting, making dumb faces, staring off into space, looking at the other players with that smug, self-ingratiating look as it to say ~ "did you see how great that was?" No, am not a fan of many of the antics prevalent today. Just play with authenticity, humbleness, and correct notes in meter.
This is the level of playing that makes me want to both practice forever and quit for good. Flawless but completely warm and natural. A tasty listen, the type of recording that should be sent into space for aliens to hear the very best humanity has to offer.
If you get a chance check out some of my jazz guitar videos on my page and subscribe! I have some really good stuff on there. Let me know what you think!
This is guitar mastery at its highest level. He's definitely taken a page out of the Joe Pass school of guitar and I love it. This guy is a rare talent and I'm so glad I stumbled across this video. I will be looking for more of his stuff to add to my collection.
Not metal core, nor speed metal, nor flamenco, nor even classic guitar can reach the level of beautifulness, class, complexity, feeling and flavor that Jazz can bring to a guitar.
so true. there are technical guitarists and no slight to them but then there is those amazing ones that every note is a personal connection and they feel more then play. he is one of them.
My comment was not meant to take away from any great player who is using a pick; I play both ways and greatly admire any guitar artist no matter their method. I still maintain that to just sit down with nothing more than ones fingers and play so artfully is sheer joy to behold, thank you. Sorry you missed the point of my comment!
I'm a blues/classic rock lover/player who dabbles in jazz. Smooth jazz has an ability to show off the beauty of guitar notes unlike any other music. Very cool!

I am still a terrible guitar player, however since I have started playing it has given me a whole new perspective and appreciation on all genre's of music and the technicality that it entails. Jazz being the prime example.
As a Brazilian I can tell you guys Andy really knows what he is doing when he plays Brazilian standards. He really has the “gingado”. This is how we call the swing feel of Brazilian music. Awesome rendition!
Andy is an endless flow of musical notes and repertoire. Just amazing. Lots of hard work and practice but tons of talent too. I could practice 10K hours and never sound like that! Such fun to hear.
Master guitarist right there. Thing I love most of all is the guitar speaks to me. All the little incidental squeaks & buzz of the frets and the tone. It's just part of the instrument and the way it wants to play. Pay attention to the perfect timing on everything Andy plays. That's some unbelievable playing right there. It's from the heart & it's evident in his playing. Superb.
@@babinm I do when there are no effects to hide behind. I have played for many years myself and I can tell you that to my ear, it's just his guitar plugged straight into the amp, mixed with a mic directly in front of his guitar. (actually just confirmed that in the description) Perhaps a tiny bit of reverb but that's about it.
I thought a lot of guitarists, especially classical, work hard to avoid the squeak sounds which turn off a lot of listeners. Btw I don’t hear them here but when you said “what I live most” I had to ask why. Isn’t the squeaky sound of fingers over round wound strings the reason that string makers made flat ones. I bought a set of flatwound strings for my classical guitar and I’m hoping I can reduce my squeak sound.
I should say every aspiring Chord Melody learner would like to understudy and get a playing that makes sense around Martin Taylor legendry. Andy shall talk for himself as one of the most advanced player in this genre. What a good articulation and generosity of displaying chord melody style to the world wide guitar enthusiasts.
Watching and listening to this is absolutely unbelievable as a guitar player. How much time, effort, talent and wisdom to play like this is almost unbelievable. You sir are a genius! What an absolute pleasure to witness. Thank you.

From an interview with Andy: I usually play through a Peavy Bandit - it seems to give me a warm, rich sound that I can't get out of a tube amp of the same size. A Vibrolux I sometimes use seems to distort at too quiet a volume for me... I've tried Evans, Polytone - they're great, but the Peavy gives me the most tube-like sound, with the extra headroom... plus it's only worth like $60 so I can keep it in the trunk of my car which actually makes a big difference.

Well done! Another example of how jazz music is still alive, inspiring people in all possible ways.
I get to hear Andy fairly often and am always blown away. You should hear him accompany a singer. To me that demands the most of the guitarist.
This is also a players dream audience...ALL of these folk were there to Listen which is RARE. Usually there is someone with the Flu sitting in the front row coughing and clearing their throat thru your set...wow!
I keep this on in the background (too good) - there're not coughing because it's a "whiskey" lounge.
GOOD ONE! but they weren't drunk, whistling and screaming FREE BIRD either...can you tell I live in the south?
he would have done a great version of Free Bird!!!!
Yeah, around here they scream Free Bird during String Quartets...Bartok would've had a version!
