Hi folks,
the melody of a jazz standard is the key to good improvisation. No matter what your level of playing: never lose touch with the melody! It's not easy, so here are 5 examples of how to play and vary the melody with a good jazz phrasing. "All the things you are" is great for that. All the best for your playing and keep on practicing!

You have demonstrated very well how to develop a great melodic solo. I find octaves easy, so I would consider placing them on level 2 , but maybe thats just me.

It depends, for the most players octaves are a challenge

So glad that you chose to do this song. Just wondering, when you taught the solos for Sunny and for autumn leaves, you did it using arpeggios and scales and then we were able to build leads with your help off of those, do you have this type of thing anywhere for this song.? The reason I ask is this is probably my favorite song that I worked on all the time. Also, I want to thank you for your teaching method. I think it’s fantastic. You’re playing has really increased my interest in jazz guitar, now I’m listening to Joe Pass and Wes Montgomery and others.
