I don't understand why more people don't talk about Doyle Bramhall. That guy is extremely underrated. Can play the hell outta some rock & blues and does it all on an upside-down guitar.
Omg did you see Doyle & John Mayer playing Change It at Crossroads Fest? Both playing 12 string acoustics like unworldly fast and absolutely mind blowing.
Thank You Joe for encouraging The younger crowd. I've been playing for over 50 years, I've taught over 100 people to play , Mostly kids and I NEVER charged a dime. I watch you very close and every time I watch you play I learn something. I Love Your music and EVERYTHING You Do. May God Bless YOU Man.
3 Greats all together. Joe & Doyle are great players and with Norm do so many great things to help people less fortunate than they are, Thanks guys for all you do!
Joe is so on point. It's so incredibly cool to see young people getting into real instrumtation. A few years ago, I gave my nephew a cheap Strat clone. Since then, at birthdays and Christmases, he's asked for picks.....and straps.....and amps.....and more guitars.....That gives me such a charge as a music fan. My latest gift was an Epiphone Tele clone that I picked cheap and personally modified with a 4-way switch mod and Fender Mexican Tele pickups. He loves it (VERY expressive about it, which is RARE in a 15 year old) and I love the fact that I gave him a gift that I built with my own 2 hands.
I love Norman. I called Normans Rare guitars last week because I had some questions and to my surprise Norman answered the phone. He spent 15 to 20 minutes with me and I must say he is the most warmest kindest individual. He didn't snub me like many other music store employees have done to me in the past. We'll be making our six hour journey soon to Norman's
Norm and all of the staff at Norman’s Rare Guitars are great! Norm has been guiding me and acting as my investment consultant for many, many years and has never let me down.
I've got to put that on my bucket list to go hang out at Norman's rare guitars.... Obviously some great and down to Earth guitar players in Norman is a great host.
Doyle, when I met you, had to be about 20 years ago, at the Saxxon Pub in Austin. You were in the pool room putting new strings on a Strat before playing with the late, great Rusty Wier. Those were some good times at the Saxxon Pub. Rusty played there every Thursday night. He was a great guy. I hope you remember to mention him in the future when someone asks who you used to play with. Rock on, Doyle!
If it's a odd thing seeing Doyle play an upside down Strat, strung right handed;Imagine playing a Strat on your LAP!The way Jeff Healy did.He would sometimes stand up,still playing, jumping around etc.And he was Blind! He would BEND those strings, and had a wicked vibrato!Healy was/is another great/legend.
Can’t wrap my head around how Doyle plays a left handed guitar, strung right - on purpose. His dad must have had these right hand guitars in the house and he obviously did it on his own. Can’t even imagine playing a basic G cord upside down ... little e, big E. Guys a legend
Lefty me in 1966, snatching big brother's righty guitar, and watching from the 2nd story window for him to come back in from baseball practice so I could put it back quick. Till he caught me, and gave me a couple of 'helpful karate lessons' (ouch) before finally showing me some stuff. The premise in lefty upside-down is same for much of righty, in finding that sound you hear or imagine, to do WHATEVER it takes to get (or approximate) that sound. Finger-friendly things differ righty to lefty and I 'try' to moderate the descending scale riffs or fills which tend to come easier. Any two right-handers might play and sound differently, and it all works out as one's own art.. Same wonderful canvas... lefty-ups just get some weird paint. :)
how many times would you say he played over and over again until everything started to make sense of the sounds in his head.. musical vocabulary impressive…
I really enjoy watching your videos. It shows the real side of a person. These are guys and gals that you can sit down and have coffee with. I hope that I will be able one day to walk into your store. Thanks for the videos.
Hi Norm! I'm a 75 year old lefty Guitar player. When I played right hand Strats. in the '60s I would replace the knobs with old fashioned, beveled rubber Faucet washers so I wouldn't turn the knobs while I was playing. Thought you'd enjoy this little tidbit. Love your videos!
Didn't know of Doyle until Arc Angels. Loved that but happy to see EC in '07 with Doyle. Heck, they played "Outside Woman Blues" the DG classic he said to be the first solo he ever learned! Maybe upside down then too. Also a killer vocalist! Problem Child from Smokestack rips.
I love Joe B. Incredible & very technical guitar player and great voice. However if Doyle & Joe were playing the same night across the street from one one another......I would pick.............I would pick......what rhymes with boil??
At the end of the day, both guys are doing their thing playing the music they love for a living. Personally. I prefer DBII for a lot of reasons, but I wouldn't argue Joe's technical virtuosity. I guess what I think is harder to pull off as a guitarist and an artist is to have your own style and unmistakable sound. Like it or not, he has a sound and style all his own that makes him instantly recognizable.
Awesome thanks Norm!! I love when i can find more great guitarists that play lefthanded guitar strung right handed like i play. Of course the great Albert King and Eric Gales are right up there on my list of favorites including JP Cervonni. Jimi Hendrix to a degree but he normally played a right handed guitar upside down but strung lefthanded. But i have read he was able to play either way which isnt surprising with jimi's ability. I myself started on my grandmothers righthanded heritage cherry Aria SG copy guitar flipped upside down for a few years then got my first lefthanded guitar a Hohner stratocaster sunburst brand new from my grandparents when i was young and i took a years worth of lessons that way. I then sold my lefty two years later and i bought another righty a beautiful white stratocaster and 20 years later i have been playing a righty flipped upside down and i have even purchased a few lefties a lemon drop les paul and a strat and changed the nut and strung them right handed like you see here with Doyle Bramhalls strat. It feels more natural to me upside down than the politically correct way lol. I always say keep playing guitar no matter which way you hold it or what people think as long as it feels right to you and it sounds good!! Keep em' comin Norm and Rock on !!
Great couple of legends here. Joe looks so baby faced and clean. Doyle looks like he just stopped in a guitar shop before going to a methadone clinic. Joe holding a Gretsch looks so weird. Seeing him playing what could be Eric Gales guitar was really cool
what does Norm say at 8:25 ? it's -------- ? Joe says the Strat is lite. DBII has said elsewhere he likes his lite 1964 Strat, so without the serial # - what is the wood type? cheers.
I remember being in Norm's on Vanowen, and one of the guys working there was talking about how Elliot came in and had all of these guitars that had been given to him by various manufacturers, and I guess Norm, or maybe someone else there said...." how much do you want for them?" and Elliot said, nothing, man, I just want to get rid of them, I don't want them and they are in my way.... please just let me give them to you.... classic California story!
Got one of those Seafoam Green teles hanging on the wall righthand side. Really fab guitars - american standard special run (looks like mine anyway). If you want a cool tele, get this one!!!
@8:26 Joe's says, "it's light." Then Norm comments, Doyle agrees and Joe looks at the back of the guitar and nods. What was that all about? Dating the guitar?
Jacob Reece good luck playing Frances farmer will get her revenge on Seattle or pretty much any nirvana song with a hollow body man. Dig your profile thing. Nirvana rocks
Anyone else notice Doyle plays a left handed guitar with it strung right handed but he plays left handed!? edit: i just got to the end of the video as they talk about it.
I don't understand why more people don't talk about Doyle Bramhall. That guy is extremely underrated. Can play the hell outta some rock & blues and does it all on an upside-down guitar.
Omg did you see Doyle & John Mayer playing Change It at Crossroads Fest? Both playing 12 string acoustics like unworldly fast and absolutely mind blowing.
yap
Lots of people talk about underrated but Doyle is definitely underrated. He really has great feel and makes wonderfully unusual note choices.
He's great
Thank You Joe for encouraging The younger crowd.
Doyle and Joe wih Norm just chilling out on the couch is priceless, thanks guys.
sometimes my shirt collar feels too stretched out but it's all relative i guess
funny
I can see him with a pair of scissors before the interview. "I will be cool"
I've heard that ol' Doyle turns green when people make him angry, but people say the zaniest stuff...
Hahaha
Luke Gosselin and he is
God damn i love see great guitarist sit around and talk.
Two of my absolute favorite spectacular players.
2 of my favorites also. These 2 in the store at the same time....EPIC.
Joe is so on point. It's so incredibly cool to see young people getting into real instrumtation. A few years ago, I gave my nephew a cheap Strat clone. I really appreciate all these videos, All of them!. Thank you Norm.
I love Norman.
I called Normans Rare guitars last week because I had some questions and to my surprise Norman answered the phone. He spent 15 to 20 minutes with me and I must say he is the most warmest kindest individual. He didn't snub me like many other music store employees have done to me in the past.

Spooby lmaooooooo
I regret that I have but one 'like' to give. :)
When I want to feel good about life I come to Norm’s channel and listen to his guests.
Saw Joe open for Peter Frampton, and saw Doyle play with Clapton on the Me and Mr Johnson Tour…. Great players!
Love both these guys!
"Just a little bit or reverb" is certainly and understatement, or Norman's store is the batcave

Doyle rules, period.
coolest Norms Video ever, made my day, absolut fantastic.
All I know is, Doyle is THE Tone Master and Joe is THE Technical Master of blues guitar today. That's it, that's all, 'nuff said...

I teched for him once. Incredibly difficult!
how many times would you say he played over and over again until everything started to make sense of the sounds in his head.. musical vocabulary impressive…
DBII is a good guitarist, for sure, but a total ahole wanker
Austin Hanks plays a right handed guitar... he just flips it over and lays it left. Craziness
Defiantly 2 of my biggest guitar hero's!
Two of my favorites, you too Norm,no playing, but some great conversation which is cool, love your videos Norm
I really enjoy watching your videos. It shows the real side of a person. These are guys and gals that you can sit down and have coffee with. I hope that I will be able one day to walk into your store. Thanks for the videos.
And to think, I sat right on that couch with Norman in March. It was a great experience being in that shop.
Great Pickers. Joe just goes to town on Doyles Guitar. Amazing.
So cool to listen to these guys.
Big Doyle Bramhall fan. Love his new record too. Why no jam fellas???

Wow that was so Awesome !!!! Thanx
You know this is an outstanding education on entertainment,,. *Thank You*

Oh no it stopped too early, love both guys!
2 great guitar players here. thanks. good story.
I love Joe B. Incredible & very technical guitar player and great voice. However if Doyle & Joe were playing the same night across the street from one one another......I would pick.............I would pick......what rhymes with boil??
100%.
Why does everyone on RUclips turn beautiful, creative artistry into a competition?
These guys do not feel that they compete with each other.
@@StratMatt777 exactly! There is no competition…Doyle is WAAAAY better than little joey.
I would buy a tickets for each and keep going backwards and forwards. {seen jb twice fyi}

Both great players!
Love both....
Doyle opened for someone can't remember
I really liked his music

Awesome thanks Norm!! I love when i can find more great guitarists that play lefthanded guitar strung right handed like i play. what does Norm say to Joe just after Joe comments that it's very light?
what does Norm say at 8:25 ? it's -------- ? Joe says the Strat is lite.
DBII has said elsewhere he likes his lite 1964 Strat, so without the serial # - what is the wood type? cheers.
he says its ash. if you slow the video down you can hear it clearly
Yes the guitar exchange!!

Doyle is too cool man 😎
Where I live it's all 80's hair band music, I wish there were blues people, here.
Norm....@ 8:26, what do you say about Doyle's Strat after Joe says 'That's Light'??
This is fantastic!
Cool interview
Would love to see Joe and Doyle TOGETHER
Joe's thinking 🤔 "these bass strings ain't popping, just getting a fucking left handed guitar!"
This was just COOL...
I seen Doyle with Roger Waters awesome!!
You saw Doyle. Not seen. Should have paid attention in school.
Hey guys it's Joe Bonamanaramamomma at norms rare guitars!
Joe needs to have Doyle on his podcast.
Got one of those Seafoam Green teles hanging on the wall righthand side. Really fab guitars - american standard special run (looks like mine anyway). If you want a cool tele, get this one!!!

Great Video!
Very fun
Hi Joe & Doyle & Norm & EVERYONE! GOOD TO SEE YOU!!!
2 badass guitar players.
so whats up with the back of the falcon? i think its a protection for bucklerash?
@8:26 Joe's says, "it's light." Then Norm comments, Doyle agrees and Joe looks at the back of the guitar and nods. What was that all about? Dating the guitar?
Why is it that I always miss the chance to see guitar idols like Doyle Bramhall II and JB? I go in and there is never a famous guitarist. DANG!!!!
6:47 - all EQs at noon i guess
stipeur and a fucking swimming pool full of reverb
All Kinds I believe they call that, "Reverb set to surf".🏄
How to play arpeggios
Hands off that White Falcon Joe. It's mine.
Jacob Reece good luck playing Frances farmer will get her revenge on Seattle or pretty much any nirvana song with a hollow body man. Dig your profile thing. Nirvana rocks
Jaden Clarke I got the Jaguar. I want to expand upon my playing styles, and thanks Nirvana is my favorite band.
The hollow bodies feedback would be perfect for Radio Friendly Unit Shifter.
2 Ass Kicking and taking names Great Guitar players!!
Damn, Norm does know everybody, and has sold a guitar to most of them.
Dang, luv the resonance,
on that hunk of wood!
Other guitar is gorgeous,
sure wish they would have played 'em tho!!!
Still makes my brain crank that For plays a left handed guitar strung upside down
Just like Albert King
Anyone else notice Doyle plays a left handed guitar with it strung right handed but he plays left handed!?
edit: i just got to the end of the video as they talk about it.
🤪
Epic!!!
