    I think I've done around 12,000 songs with vocals now and I still learned something new watching this. I'd like to see this with other instruments as well. Something I love with engineering/producing is that we are always students. Thanks for all your hard work!

    Amazing video man! No one is doing it like you. This really helps me out with how I record vocals with clients and getting that energy and feeling out of them. Thank you for this video 🙏🏼 keep doing what you’re doing!

    I'm game for more. If anything, it demonstrates something that I've always believed about being a music producer, which is it's more akin to a film director where you are there guiding a performance for a particular end result in collaboration with the music artist.

      That’s how I tend to view it. I’m sure others will have other ideas that work for them. I have the most success especially with “green” artists this way.

    Well, that’s a good little song you got going on there. I was already singing along by this second verse and this is the first time I’ve ever heard this song. That’s a great vocal performance right off the jump.

    Two things.
    I think I heard you say you wanna do BGVs for my EP and yes you’re hired.
    Can we hear the finished published product. I’ve heard your mixes and they’re huge. Congrats. I’d just like to finish the journey w you.
    Congratulations to you both.

    Great video. It’s easy to focus too much on the technical stuff when recording my own or my friends vocals. It’s nice to have a big treated room with nice microphones where people can step back and just feel it. With a less treated room and more budget oriented stuff, we do need to think about the technical aspect a little /:

    • @RecordingStudioLoser
      @RecordingStudioLoser  3 часа назад

      I don’t know I think about early city and colour records. Or any indie record where somebody locked themselves in the woods and recorded. Performance trumps sound quality everytime.
      That said I’m all for paying attention to technical stuff. That’s most of my job. It’s when it gets in the way of the performance that it becomes a problem.

    This was a great video, makes me want to work harder to get people into my "studio" to record. Question on the 3 vocal mics, maybe I missed it, but are you blending those together for the final mix or are you picking the best one at the end??

    • @RecordingStudioLoser
      @RecordingStudioLoser  6 дней назад

      I was trying out different mics. I had a few in and wasn’t sure what I would settle on with his voice. In the actual mix of the song- link in the description- the chandler mic was the one I used.

    Question: Do you set up three mics to pick one later, or do you actually blend all three in the mix? If I set up more than one, it’s to shoot them out on a verse/chorus, then we pick one and roll with it.

    • @RecordingStudioLoser
      @RecordingStudioLoser  6 дней назад +1

      I was shooting them out. And to use different one for bgv vs main vocal.
      I hadn’t worked with Preston before this so I wasn’t sure what was gonna work so I set a bunch up

    Amazing video and lots of valueable insight! I've heard before of people tracking with a bit of autotune, but I was wondering if there is a specific reason why you like to do it? Or was it something the singer requested?

    • @RecordingStudioLoser
      @RecordingStudioLoser  7 дней назад +1

      That’s something I started doing in the last couple years. I had it in my head that I hated auto tune for so long but using it in a recording context, I can really quickly tell if a vocal is close enough to be tuned manually later if the given performance is on point. I would rather have it performed well than to be perfectly in tune, but listening to auto tune live helps me hear its potential down the line.

  • @MariJu1ce

    Do people usually not cut vocals with the band anymore? Ive seen Dave cobb talk about this, that he feels its crucial to get the vocalists dymanics to interract with the band

    • @RecordingStudioLoser
      @RecordingStudioLoser  7 дней назад +3

      Scratch vocals yes. So we get the structure of the song. But that’s expensive to keep session players there waiting for your vocal
