    Hi Norm! Here's a story...I seriously flew to Chicago, (from Phoenix Az) helped pack up a 2 storied house, (in the rain) drove the Moving Van from Illinois to Phoenix, (took 4 days)and then unloaded it into a storage unit (in 107°f heat)
    I volunteered to do all this because you and your friends have INSPIRED me to go out and "DO SOMETHING!" ...So I DID!!! Very proud of myself 💪😎

    OMG!!! My husband would have gone crazy in both of the stores.. I have to admit I probably would have too. I am surprised Alexzander didn’t get more stuff. I would have gotten the playing cards. I know we would have spent hours in the store just looking and deciding what to buy. I love all the great places you go to. My list of places to see in Tokyo is getting longer and longer... As always YOU ROCK NORM!!!!

  • @BathoryBat
    @BathoryBat 6 лет назад +2

    That pile of gamecubes gives me all the squishy nostalgia feelings. I miss mine. And the Windwaker soundtrack! Alexander, you are a man after my own heart. I wrote so many papers in University while listening to that soundtrack. Windwaker was the game that actually made me want to get a gamecube in the first place when I was little. I wound up not getting it for a long time because nintendo games just stay the same price for years. Super Monkey Ball 2 and Crazy Taxi got a lot of play time before I was able to get Zelda. And Pikmin. Pikmin is my other favorite from the gamecube.

  • @NoshAbroad
    @NoshAbroad 6 лет назад +21

    I'm so glad you two made it to Friends and even more excited that they allowed you to film. Friends is probably the last Mom & Pop retro game shop in Tokyo if not all Japan. Super Potato is awesome and a feast for the eyes (more museum than store) as you mentioned the best things are not for sale and everything else is WAY over priced! I think their popularity stems from the fact they are the only place that lets you film without a hassle. *For anyone else wanting to actually collect and buy old games, consider the following*: I personally found the best variety & pricing at Retro Games Camp (Retro game camp has two spaces. One in a basement a few doors down from the main shop on ground level.) Surugaya Specialty Store has a huge collection but most of the games available are pretty common. Honorable mention to beep, that while filled to the ceiling with rare and esoteric gaming & computing hardware... there's probably not much the average console gamer would want to buy. Those willing to venture further should go to Nakano Broadway. Big Mario and Mandrake have a great collection of retro games that haven't been picked over by all the tourists in Akihabara.

    • @TokyoLens
      @TokyoLens  6 лет назад +2

      NOSH! thanks so much for the tip on the Friends shop eh!!
      the additional tips are also fantastic

    • @alessiman
      @alessiman 6 лет назад +2

      Akihabara is only good to window shop. Remember there is a Super Potato in Ikebukuro which has a far better range and "local" pricing as so few tourist make the trip there.
      Best bargains are the hard offs on the fringes of Tokyo. Prices there are 50 to 66% off what you would pay in Akiharaba. But... You need to trave at least 50min (each way) and walk another 20 mins. Well worth it though

    • @NoshAbroad
      @NoshAbroad 6 лет назад +1

      +Henry Louey the biggest problem I had with the other recycle shops is selection. Although a good deal can be had, they have a much smaller section especially for the rarest of games. I was specifically seeking rare PC Engine Games.

      A warning to anyone wanting to collect those old Nintendo disks. They are re-writable and the game on the label may NOT in fact be the game that is actually on the disk. Probably not a issue for someone who just want's a keep sake, but when you go into these shops to buy a retro disk system and games be sure and ask the staff if it was tested to in fact be the game on the label.

    Super Potato looks really cool, I would definitly get some older games since they are usually quiet expensive here (even though they're not new) ^_^.

    I've been once in Den-Den Town. The equivalent of Akihabara in Oosaka. I could literally spend a month there and still not be bored... I have a question, due to my limited time didn't manage to find them. Do they also have old jigsaw puzzles or second-hand jigsaw puzzles in some shops? I did after research find new ones, but not old stuff, that only would have a reason for me to travel there again. Although to tell you the truth, there are many more reasons to travel to Japan again...

    Great video as always. Super Potato is not somewhere I've been in Akihabara as, well, I'm not into games at all (due to being extremely bad at them). But that's ok as I normally spend way to much in all the other stores there, and elsewhere in Tokyo ... and elsewhere in whatever city I'm in (DenDen Town in Osaka is good too), so I couldn't afford to buy games stuff on top of all the CDs/DVDs/BDs/Books. I already have a shopping list for new things being released when I'm out there next month (let alone things to look for in Book Off etc ....)
    And damn that food looked good ...

    I am glad you and your brother are ok. Poor people in Osaka. They got hit by Typhoon Jebi so hard. 1.9million households without power, vehicles being flipped over from the wind, and buildings falling down. Gosh mother nature can be so brutal.
