I've had the sake kitkat in Haneda airport - they did nail the aroma of sake for me, but although I really love sake, I didn't like the kitkat that much lol. Tokyo Banana is where it's at for me.
"I was wrong" just killed me, that was so on point. Also, i've had tried over 30 flavours of kitkats (and always searching for more, which isn't easy when Japan is basically on the other side of the world) and i've gotta say milk tea, apple pie are some of my favourites. Few of the more interesting ones would also be sparkling wine with strawberry, mont blanc or pistachio.
Loved the video Norm, as always. For the ruby: Ruby is a certain type of chocolate. The color (Pink) and taste (Berry like) are coming from the cacaobeans they used in it. I like the flavor a lot myself, but can see how not everybody will be a fan :)
I’ve tried the Ruby before. I think sweet and pink is an apt description. Nondescript. Confusing. Not bad. But not good enough to warrant buying again.
They taste wonderful, but make my pre-existing chocolate allergy (the darker the worse) act up even worse than dark chocolate. So while its tasty its also so hard to breathe afterwards for an hour or so TAT (And its really expensive for essentially fruity pink chocolate with worse effects than pitch black 100% cacao chocolate)
I brought a variety of Kit Kat flavors for my office colleagues from my first trip to Japan in 2019. They really liked matcha, sweet potato and black tea flavor. I personally also liked umeshu and Tokyo Banana flavor. There were still gazillion other flavors which I did not buy, but suitcase space is very valuable when returning from Japan. I really would love to visit again someday. And try more Kit Kats for sure 😄
The way you described the whole grain biscuit one a "good kind of plain" made me think of Calorie Mate, my go-to iron ration whenever I'm in Japan - I wish there were as many flavors of those!
Cassis (pronounced like: ka-cease) is a French town and also the french word for blackcurrant. Blackcurrant is a popular fruit flavour in a lot of Europe (idk about other European countries but in the UK you can't readily buy blackcurrants as a fruit, but blackcurrant flavoured sweets/drinks are very common). It's not popular in the US because blackcurrant trees carried a disease that was harmful to native trees so the trees were all got rid of a long time ago.
The accuracy of the red apple flavor is genuinely uncanny. If not for the texture I would swear I was taking a bite out of a crisp red apple. Even more so with the aftertaste.
I literally did giving and receiving“you can pass”written KitKat before university entrance exams in my high school age and it’s been always great memory! Now as an adult I still enjoy finding interesting KitKat wherever I travel. Didn’t know that many flavors exist though! Thank you for the great challenge Norm, hope you still like KitKat!😆
whaaaat? I appreciate that you always share some of your own Japanese experiences on the videos each time!! Thank you for that, and keep up the great work!!
Awesome! I did this about 6 years ago on a trip. My favourite was the melon Kit Kats, made with melon and mascarpone cheese. I also went to the chocolatier at the bottom of the big Shinjuku station shopping centre and got a custom made one with fruit and nuts. Japan is the best!
Hi Norm! Fun fact, I actually wrote a research paper on KitKats in Japan, for my Japanese Marketing class at a Japanese University. Including a separate section for the KitKat Chocolatory that you visited in Osaka. The Ruby KitKat is actually its own unique type of chocolate. To me it had a faint strawberry taste. My favorite flavor of KitKat in Japan is sakura kinako!
Thank you for the sharing the abundance of Kit Kat flavors Japan has to offer. It is always mind-blowing how many unique and creative flavors they have come up with. On a side note, if you can, please have some warm Japanese / Chinese green tea to help with your stomach. It always does wonders for me when i dont feel too good inside.
Norm, thanks for doing this in the pursuit of the best KitKat for all of us. Your facial expressions at some of the questionable ones and the aside comments were laugh out loud moments. Great video in time for Christmas, I will see if some of those flavors might be at my local international shops for stocking stuffers. BTW did you ever figure out what the Lemon one reminded you of? Best wishes for Christmas to you and yours!
Ruby Chocolate is fantastic. As far as I know, Ruby chocolate is made from a different kind of cocoa bean. For a while you could get Ruby Kit Kats in the UK and they were my favourite (next to Peanut Butter).
I’ve tried most of these ordered from the US, started trying them in 2014 and a big part of being able to try multiple kinds at once is to buy the east and west japan variety pack, it lets you 12 different flavors total and then you can work up from there, I’m gonna take a wild guess and say I’ve maybe tried 48 or so? over the past 9 years lol
It's really amazing, to see the brand that was once a British, made by a Quaker, bought by a Swiss company, yet had signature products in Japan that couldn't be found in another place in the world.
I'm liking this video solely for the dedication and the risk of a bad stomach ache from eating so much chocolate in one go.😂 Also it's super interesting that Japan's obsession with Kit Kat is because of a wordplay, I guess it's really fitting since they do enjoy wordplay and puns over there a lot.
I keep finding more wierd KitKat flavors here in Colorado, and some of them I refuse to buy as they are only in full-size bars. I’m already not a fan of blueberry, so when they made blueberry muffin, I avoided it. They had a chocolate strawberry that was just wierd. Honestly, the only ones I really like (so far anyway) are original, dark chocoalte, and dark chocolate mint. I think I tried the “mocha” flavored one, but it was just meh.
Awesome video! Been obsessed with Kitkats for the past year. Got a whole desk drawer filled with different flavors from all over the world. The Japanese varieties are definitely my favorite and I was really surprised by how much I like the fruit flavors like peach and melon. Also, totally agree with the assessment of the whole grain flavor, very simple but still very good. Can't wait to visit Japan and try so many more flavors.
Hi Norm, long time fan of the channel, thanks for helping with our regular Japan fix 😅 When we went to Japan we spent way to much money in kit kat and brought 20 different varieties as well. We even did small care packages for the family and close friends with one small kit kat if each flavour. I remember our favourite was one that is slightly bigger single piece with nuts or dried fruit on top. Keep up the good work. Merry Xmas.
KitKats are one of my favorite chocolate candies! This was very interesting to watch, and I thank you for taking the time and stomachache to taste test all of those for us. Ruby chocolate is definitely an acquired taste. To some it just seems like a fancy colored chocolate while others can tell you the difference in taste immediately. I’m kind of shocked there weren’t more duo types, like mocha (which is amazing) or the mint chocolate. Hope your stomach feels better soon!
The lemon salt ones reminded me of the lemon frosted Girl Scout cookies! That's probably what you remember in taste. To me, the sake one is nothing to write home about.
Casis - black currant The white one with black speck - either "stracciatella" or "cookies and creme" Ruby- a mutation of the cacao bean. The pink color is natural and it tends to have a "fruity" taste
I did this last year, but over a month, thanks, amazon. Props to you to try it it all in one sitting. I even brought some in to work for a team meeting and they loved them all, even the wasabi!
I really enjoy the wasabi ones. My favorites are the sake and the lemon ones. Can't wait to go to Japan and try more (that didn't show up in my Tokyo Treat box). Love your videos, Norm. Keep it up!!
I just returned from a month-long vacation in Japan and my omiyage obligations were met with lots of KIT-KATS. One of the flavors I brought back that wasn't part of your haul was PEACH. It was pretty popular, as was STRAWBERRY and UJI MATCHA. The Matcha was my favorite. I also brought back both sake flavors and my reaction was the same as yours for both; the umeshu was surprisingly nice.
Norm putting himself on the line for us doing important work. I salute you sir. I love Kit Kats and didn’t know Japan was crazy for them…Another reason I must go visit Japan now.
I was getting full myself just watching the video. It's nice to see you dabble in things other than your conventional content so we can see a different side of you Norm. I think my favourite flavour would have been the matcha ones. Great job, Norm.
I got a blood sugar peak just watching you haha Hope this hasn't disgusted you from eating kitkats ^^ I think I'll get some of these as omiyage during my next trip to Japan :D Hope your liver recovers swiftly from all that!
My favorite part of getting the Tokyo Treat box was the kit kats. My fave were peach, melon, Cafe au last, orange chocolate and the japan sake. Japan seemed to use more white chocolate than milk chocolate. I think if they used milk chocolate some of the ones you didn't like would have been better.
Hi Norm, That was a fun journey through the varied world of Nestle Kit Kat flavor samples. We came across a Vanilla Ice Cream flavor that we picked up at a Don Quixote near Kyoto Station this past November (nothing special at all). However, if you haven't experienced the Halloween themed Apple Pie flavored Kit Kat, you owe it to yourself to hunt one down during the month of October. It is unique and very layered. Our favorite to date. Thanks again for the fun time (even though it was provided at your discomfort). Cheers!
I had a Tokyo Treat Box subscription for almost two years, almost every box came with a different flavour of Kit Kat, i ended up saving one from each package until i finished my subscription and basically did what you are doing in this video, yeah its really easy to underestimate how much there is to eat and how bad you will feel afterwards. props to you Norm.
I've gotten onto the habit of clearing the notifications on my phone, without really looking at them. And in the split second I see the thumbnail, I somehow can always tell if a notification is for one of your videos, and I always get excited. Also, I can only eat one or two candies at a time. Anymore and I feel sick. I'd hate to have to eat all of that candy. Thank you for your sacrifice.
Norm, you are living (and regretting) the dream! I saw that there were different flavour kit kats a few years back while going to the store World Market in the US. (One of the 1st times I remember wanting to go to Japan, just for the candy alone. And ever since then, RUclips Japan has been my go to info for my future trip.) And those kit kats DID NOT disappoint. I went at a different time and they had a different variety of Kit Kat and I regret that I don't remember the flavour. I ate the whole bag in like two days, they were so good. I've seen more variety in the US at the Uwajima grocery store, but they are pricey and I feel I will regret the buy. I thought that Ruby referred to the Ruby Grapefruit. But I love Strawberry Cheesecake, so I would like to try those. And the lemon/lime ones. I just about put Lemon and salt in everything I eat, so the combo with chocolate would be an experience.
I’ve eaten many of those, my favorites are still the Uji Matcha one, the Orange and Chocolate, the Ume Sake and the dark 72% Chocolate. Will definitely try to find more flavors.
Thank you Norm...not only another interesting video...but a mouth watering one as well. Time to write that book about different Kit-Kat varieties around the world!!!
8:13 shinshu apple is my absolute favourite out of all the Kit Kat flavours and they are so hard to find overseas! I was surprised to see you rated it 10/10 because it has such a unique taste and I don’t know anyone else who likes this!
14:25 more recently a 4th kind of chocolate was introduced known as “ruby” chocolate. I believe that’s what they are using on this Kit Kat :) Also typically flavors like citrus pair the best with white chocolate, and passion fruit is a great match with it too.
This was a fun video to watch. I knew there were many flavors I haven’t seen before, but I had no idea there were this many. Thank you for your sacrifice, and I hope you had a quick recovery! 😊
The Kit Kats lets go! I've only tried a handful of the flavors they have there from the Tokyo Treat boxes I've picked up. Milk tea and chestnut were two of my favorites!
Did you know? They've been releasing flavored KitKat in the States for a couple years now. The best (imho) have been blueberry muffin and cinnamon horchata. The horchata one is such a banger!!!
I love Kit Kats but I’m diabetic. I always wonder what the different Kit Kats taste like. I had no idea there were so much interesting flavors. I really enjoy your channel. Thank you very much for sharing.
Flashback to when a friend and I did this with all the Japanese kitkats we could get our hands on from HMart, Mitsuwa, Daiso, and other Asian markets near us. Fun video!
Hi Norm (@TokyoLens) , just a note for the "Shinshuu" Apple ones (10/10). Those are Nagano prefecture apple flavor. Shinshuu is an old term for Nagano prefecture, which is where I lived for several years. Glad you like the apples which they are famous for!
Green Matcha is my jam. It's the most exotic flavour I was ever able to get, but boy, was it always a treat. I'd love to try more flavours, though. If I ever go to Japan, that's definitely on the list.
I still have so many kitkats I got from Japan! My favorite has to be the apple ones I got from the snow monkey village! I also had the sake one..wasn't a fan either lol and I LOVE sake and chocolate..just not together apparently. Lol I need to go back and get them all 😅😅 Much love from Arizona 💜💜
Milk Chocolate + wafer + catchy name = instant classic. Infinite potential for variations in flavoring. Greater mystery is that why aren't other countries experimenting as much with flavors?
Glad to know that Norm is also part of the red and white raglan mafia. It's just a sort of kinship that you can only understand if you have specifically owned a red and white raglan shirt.😂 As of writing this (12/18/23) I was also wearing a red and white raglan, and this served as the motivation for my comment.
Such a simple concept, and yet one of the most fun videos to watch!! I've been busy trying to catch up on your content that I'd missed, and this definitely amped me up to watch more! Hope you had a great Christmas, Norm! 🎄 ~ Amy🍁
The Dark Chocolate Raspberry Kitkats are amazing. I recall trying a number of them when I visited back in 2015. Between those and the 72% dark chocolate, they are a nice treat. The Dark Chocolate Raspberry ones I had were the premium ones from the same store in Osaka.
I've tried about a third of these. I really wish some of the more common flavours were available in the UK. Especially milk tea and salt lemon. Nom nom.
I’ve had a number of those here in the States. The chocolate orange blew my mind/tastebuds. Might be my all time favorite. I’ve never had the sake ones, but would like to try them. It usually takes me a few weeks to get through a package of 10 KitKats. I can’t imagine doing 30+ in one sitting.
Hi Norm - great vid! I always leave Japan with a big bag of various Kit Kats and Curry Pan - everyone at home is always amazed when I tell them about the Japanese obsession with Kit Kats. BTW Cassis is pronounced Kaa Sees. It’s French. Have a great Christmas and a wonderful New Year!
Hey Norm. My favourite Japanese KitKat flavours are: Milk Tea, A version of the strawberry, and the Salt Lemon. Yum! I wasn't so keen on the alcohol flavoured ones, and in our Japan Crate years back, I wasn't keen on the Sweet Potato flavour either. Still many more I want to try.
next up, all the Strong Zero flavors in a year! Their peach mango is still very memorable for me, that's the only chuhai that gave me the munchies XD I'm sending this video to anyone going to Japan so they don't have to do the good ol' spray-n-pray Kitkat buying spree at Don Quijote and run out of budget for the good stuff like traditional/regional snacks that you can only usually get by going to the place or at the airport (if you're lucky; NGO had a very sad duty-free section when I passed by March 2023)
I love Kit Kats but I don't think I would have the stomach to try every flavor. My favourite is actually the Match otona no amasa flavor because to me the normal matcha is too sweet ^^ I hope this much sugar didn't make you feel sick!
I would like to try the strawberry, milk tea, whole grain, and hojicha. Classic green tea Kit Kats are always a treat for me. Oh, and maybe the passion fruit , ruby, and apple, just cuz I’m curious.
I heard that there are more than 300 varieties but during ny recent visit, I could hardly pickup some 5-6 varieties only. Sadly they don't have all at one place. People would pay extra to get everything at one place as this avoids lot of costly search in terms of time and travel expenses.
@@TokyoLensalmost 😂... I love how the bites keep getting smaller and the sights and pauses before the bites, longer and longer 😂😂 At some point I would love to try the dark chocolate ones (and probably the "for coffee") but right now I have sympathy indigestion 🤢🥲
I bought a few when I went this fall, and wasabi is easily my favorite! Sweet, gently spicy, a little floral, just pleasant to have with a cup of tea. The Hiroshima Momoji ones were also a favorite :)
I tried 40 something of the Japanese Kit Kat over the years. My fav is still the passionfruit one, which was available back in 2013. I still keep a list of the flavours I tried, but a lot of them aren't that good.

Came here to say this, happy there are other chocolate lovers out here to explain some of the lesser known chocolates to people ^___^
I’ve tried the Ruby before.
The packaging is what I really like. The amount of effort they place on presenting it.
Morning Norm! Thanks for sacrificing yourself in the name of research. Always blows my mind on how many varieties of Kit-Kat Japan has.
hahaha and a sacrifice it was ~
@@TokyoLens As someone who needs to watch their blood sugar, this is a much appreciated sacrifice, haha. Thank you Norm!

8:13 shinshu apple is my absolute favourite out of all the Kit Kat flavours and they are so hard to find overseas! I was surprised to see you rated it 10/10 because it has such a unique taste and I don’t know anyone else who likes this!
Your reaction on the raspberry flavour is hilarious😂. Thanks for the sacrifice 💯! you should have done this together with sherry😆
"Mis-estimated" has now been added to my vocabulary. I need to get my hands on some of those special Kit Kats at the end!
14:25 more recently a 4th kind of chocolate was introduced known as “ruby” chocolate. I believe that’s what they are using on this Kit Kat :)
Also typically flavors like citrus pair the best with white chocolate, and passion fruit is a great match with it too.
Fun video!
Oh nice!
I really liked the key lime ones we had in the States a couple years ago. The Fruity Pebbles ones weren't too bad either.
Green Matcha is my jam. It's the most exotic flavour I was ever able to get, but boy, was it always a treat.
I'd love to try more flavours, though. If I ever go to Japan, that's definitely on the list.
You had my EXACT reaction to the apple kit kat. It's amazing!
I still have so many kitkats I got from Japan! My favorite has to be the apple ones I got from the snow monkey village! I also had the sake one..wasn't a fan either lol and I LOVE sake and chocolate..just not together apparently. Lol I need to go back and get them all 😅😅
Much love from Arizona 💜💜
This man out here sacrificing his stomach for science. We salute you Norm.
I like this video because it’s no bs. Bro just chugging KitKats and gives quick opinions.
Milk Chocolate + wafer + catchy name = instant classic. Infinite potential for variations in flavoring. Greater mystery is that why aren't other countries experimenting as much with flavors?
Glad to know that Norm is also part of the red and white raglan mafia. It's just a sort of kinship that you can only understand if you have specifically owned a red and white raglan shirt.😂
As of writing this (12/18/23) I was also wearing a red and white raglan, and this served as the motivation for my comment.
Such a simple concept, and yet one of the most fun videos to watch!! I've been busy trying to catch up on your content that I'd missed, and this definitely amped me up to watch more! Hope you had a great Christmas, Norm! 🎄

I knew Japan had a lot of kitkat flavors but not this much. I’d love to try some of those they look yummy!
This video was a riot XD. I loved your ratings for the kit-kats! I definitely wish I had some of those right now!
Japan is really adventurous with flavours. There’s me thinking I’m adventurous trying the mint flavour
The rum raisin and banana are really good-there are so many that it would be crazy trying to cover them all
I received the Sakura Kit-Kat as a gift and was surprised with how sweet it tasted! definitely one of the most delicious version I had!
13:00 “I don't know how I feel about that one. Good enough to go for the second half” 😄
Oh god, you must've felt soooo crappy the next day! My blood sugar spiked just watching you eat those!
The orange ones are the best tho!
I am sitting in a delayed train with my tablet, Notm and Matcha KitKat. Having a dgood time, thank you Norm 😊
REALLY appreciate you chewing with your mouth close. Better manners and review than 90% of cooking shows
Awww ☺️ too kind
Milk tea,and the crispy chocolate. White are my favorite
next up, all the Strong Zero flavors in a year! Their peach mango is still very memorable for me, that's the only chuhai that gave me the munchies XD
I'm sending this video to anyone going to Japan so they don't have to do the good ol' spray-n-pray Kitkat buying spree at Don Quijote and run out of budget for the good stuff like traditional/regional snacks that you can only usually get by going to the place or at the airport (if you're lucky; NGO had a very sad duty-free section when I passed by March 2023)
btw, 7:24 信州 is the original name of Nagano prefecture. So these would be Nagano Apple flavoured Kit Kats.
I love Kit Kats but I don't think I would have the stomach to try every flavor. My favourite is actually the Match otona no amasa flavor because to me the normal matcha is too sweet ^^ I hope this much sugar didn't make you feel sick!
I was... very sick lol
Love ya norm. Keep having fun, dude.
🤤🤤🤤... 19 min of KitKat is a lot of KitKat 😂😂
almost.... too much haha
Great video! Looked like you were having fun and enjoying yourself.
I bought a few when I went this fall, and wasabi is easily my favorite! Sweet, gently spicy, a little floral, just pleasant to have with a cup of tea. The Hiroshima Momoji ones were also a favorite :)
The Okinawan Puple sweet potato KitKat is my favorite out of all candies and sweets. I have not been able to find them again.
Great Video! I absolutely love your reviews of the myriad of flavors!
I have watched some of your videos, including this one and your videos are adventures, educational and funny.
Can't wait for the next video.
Awesome, thank you!
I love kit kat
So did I... until I did this lol
nah.....i think tim tam is better
I tried 40 something of the Japanese Kit Kat over the years. My fav is still the passionfruit one, which was available back in 2013. I still keep a list of the flavours I tried, but a lot of them aren't that good.
