Thank you for suppoting Toyama,Norm! Many places in Toyama are losing customers even though they didn't get damaged heavily by the earthquake. But your video helps their tourism. It makes us want to go there😊✨🙏
Having visited many temples, I’m always attracted by the uniqueness of each temple. This temple is a great mixture of good old days such as the retro cooking stove and beautiful details of architecture and moderns such as the comfortable bed room and the co-working space. Enjoyed watching Norm getting lost in the huge maze temple as well! Thank you for sharing the very rare experience😆
Have you ever had the chance to stay at one? I think you should try it!! I would love to see the experience from the point of view of a Native Japanese person That maze was...... something else though lol
My temple stay was honestly one of my most memorable moments while I was in Japan. It was absolutely beautiful, being able to pray with the monks and witness their fire ceremony is something I will remember forever. The temple I stayed at was in Koyasan, their 1000 year old temple. We got to go through their graveyard at night and it was absolutely breathtaking! I can't wait to come back! Much love from Arizona 💜💜
Been having a rough couple of days and this immediately brought a smile to my face. Thanks for being there Norm, your adventures are always an amazing experience and I look forward to each and every one of them. This was truly awesome to watch, could practically feel the magic in the air through the screen.
0:56 anything east of Vancouver, they use something much worse than just Salt. They use calcium chloride, rock salt, and magnesium chloride. The South Coast, they use Salt water from the ocean, with crushed rock salt to bring up the salinity levels
@@TokyoLens I'm an island boy.. Vancouver Island that is.. Thankfully our winters are incredibly short. Its the salt that is in the air from the wind storms that rusts everything here.
Oh, wow! I literally gasped when you opened the window and showed the garden view and the mountains covered with snow. What a lovely image. Thank you so much always for such beautiful thoughtful videos. I will definitely put down this place for next time in Japan.
My first trip to Japan was a study tour where we stayed with a host family in Toyama. Toyama and that area will always hold a special place in my heart. Thankyou for showing some of Toyama's beauty to the world ^_^
this actually made me sentimental, the amount of beauty of each room and attention to detail is amazing, thank you for showing us the temple, and I am definitely adding this, to my to do list when I visit Japan!
As someone whose winter boots only last two years because of Toronto's love of salt, I'm all for sidewalk watering. This temple looks amazing, I would absolutely love to stay there next time I visit Japan.
Sorry for my ignorance as an Australian, but would the salt act basically like salt water on your shoes? Salt water on shoes occasionally won't do much, but every day, the salt crystals themselves as well as other chemicals in the water dissolved with the salt break down fibres in the shoes. Does the salt even wear away at the soles of proper, thick walking/hiking boots?
@@rogerramjetox142pa you've pretty much got it! The soles don't wear down as much, but any leather starts to crack and split, and any fabric will rot through. You can counteract the damage by diluting vinegar and wiping your shoes down with it every day, but it still shortens the lifespan. Salt doesn't work if temperatures drop below (I believe) -30C so colder provinces and cities use sand which is a little better. Toronto is just too afraid of lawsuits, hence the sidewalks being coated in salt for four months
That tour was absolutely lovely. I felt extremely humbled and honored to be able to take a glimpse into an actual temple service - almost guilty like a kid who's not suppose to be there. Japan is so mysterious, full of wonder and treasures. I truly hope to visit one day. Thanks for teaching so many of us about this mystical and fascinating place. ❤️
What a beautiful space to stay in! I'm so jealous of that bath. I miss the bath we had in Japan. The mountains and snow are stunning. I can imagine how freezing the morning air was after our stay at Hakuba, waking up to -6⁰C! I'd love to stay there, but it wouldn't be ideal for my family. My child is so loud and she'd be deliberately skidding down the halls. We'd get kicked out 😅😂 But I'd love be to visit the area. I loved the video of the statues that you did previously. It's one of my favourites. 😊
i can never get over the fact you are so well known and respected in japan (which is a country that either love foreigners or hate them) that you are receiving requests to visit or stay at locations and even get special permission to break norms (such as recording the sermon) im honestly jealous of you 😂love your content and i hope you keep it up
New Tokyo Lens Vid - always my favorite way to end the week! Beautiful temple, beautifully shot - couldn’t help thinking how many tiny apartments you could fit in that place! Anyone reading this and not subscribed, please do so - let’s get Norm to 1 million subs ASAP!
Whenever we go on adventures with you, Norm, they always almost feel unreal 🤩 thanks for having us along, what a beautiful (and perhaps a bit confusing) temple! Please take care of yourself and lets hope 2024 can be a better year than how it started for Japan.
I'm amaze at how they manage to remember every single room without lost in every min, such a beautiful temple!! As always thank you for sharing this with us norm!
Thank you so much, and thank you to the Temple for allowing you to show the inside of the building. Things and places that always intrigue one and now we're able to explore through you. Thank you!! Many Blessings
I love your videos. Realistically, I know that I will never physically be able to visit Japan but you make me feel like I'm there in spirit. Your knowledge of, and respect for, the culture is awesome and your enthusiasm for all your new experiences and discoveries is absolutely contagious. Much love from Iowa! ❤
Always getting the best feeling and comfort after watching your vlogs of Japan and videos of the places you go to, would love to travel with you one day just exploring unknown and old places of Japan
The temple looks so beautiful in the snow! I'll be in Japan for a few months from mid-March, but the snow should already be gone by then - I love snow and the peace that snow brings. I can't wait to be back in Japan. Thanks for these exciting videos, which definitely make the waiting a little easier!
The scenery when you were walking around at night were immaculate; just enjoying a peaceful stroll through the basckstreets while it lightly snows is such a vibe…
Absolutely loved this episode! Also really enjoyed the idea of the juxtaposition of the historic era of Samurai and modern tech. This temple was so well kept. Definitely adding to my Japan bucket list. Thanks!
That's a cool location. With seeing this, you are understanding the labyrinth houses in manga and anime. I'll do my second japan trip in September this year and I'm collecting ideas where to go, and this is now on my list.
The tactics they used to protect any high ranks and/or the temple itself is really fascinating. The seashells underneath the temple is extremely clever!
Watching this makes me feel like I'm in some exploration video game and Norm is the character I'm playing, lol. I definitely want to spend some days here. It's a unique experience for sure.
Thank you for this Norm! I ended up watching the secret video before I saw this one. What a beautiful temple. I loved the cranes on the door of one of the rooms. I love how well maintained it is, what a treasure. Congratulations on your soaring subscription numbers....I was with you back in the pre-50k era. I knew you had an amazing channel then, and the quality is still top notch. You are a wonderful person and I feel so lucky to be able to support you and your endeavors. What a beautiful (and huge!) Temple! I still hold onto the hope that I'll get to see Japan one day as it's been on my to see list for ages. Great video, Norm, thanks for showing us round - and watch your head! 😁
Thanks for the video Norm. It reminded me of my first trip to Japan (March/April 2023), where we did stay at a temple in Koyasan. Of all the places I visited, I really miss Japan, and I hope I can go back soon. Until then, I'm looking forward to your amazing videos.
I go for a couple hour walk 4 or 5 days a week, first thing in the morning. Yeah, it's cold, but it is also invigorating and gets me awake for the day.

Always appreciate your kind words!
In this episode: Norm constantly attempts to hurt himself more than he already has. Slipping, tripping, head bonks, we've got it all.
😂 the most accurate summary yet 😂
That sea shell underneath to alert of someone trying to sneak in is a cool historical fact
If there ever was such a place as a ninja proof place, this would be it.

lets all rally behind this one!
I'm trying to save money to go, but it's really hard😢
Nah, just like with Mexico. I'd rather make my area prosperous then foreign nations that don't share my ideas or beliefs.

May you be able to one day!
Definitely recommend finding a local who can help you out though!

They likely also used to house hundreds of monks, servants and special guests. Now they only hold a small handful so they seem even more empty
