The average annual income in China is still much lower compared to developed countries. While the country itself has become wealthy, most citizens, except for a select few, remain poor. So politically correct, ironically, to say anti-China sentiments due to capitalism, but how come other capitalist country doesn't have this problem? To me, there's a dose of racism from mainly the Anglo-Saxon world, plus European and White people in general. Just read some history and you'll know anti-China is not a current trend and is all started during the colonial time when the West started to feel invincible and entitled.

Yes! My first few visits to China about 2 decades ago, the workers & fruit sellers / hawkers were literally wearing suits! Which was very surprising! But then China is really a country full of surprises. One needs to go there to see for himself / herself. Dun ever depend on hearsay. Seeing is believing.
I remember thinking, how amazing, even peanut sellers, squatting, wore suits or dresses, decked in fake baubles. It showed me how much respect they have for themselves. It really helped me to think differently.
@ysw8291 , Dun get me wrong. Coming from an ASEAN country, it's not normal to wear suit. Unless we are attending function or meeting. Also becoz of the hot humid weather, it's not comfortable to wear suit to work. Even in aircon office.
Climbing Huangshan over a decade ago, decked out in hiking gear, seeing people breeze by me up and down all those steps in their leather shoes or high heels.... my friends and i were completely in shock.
Hehe, that’s a misunderstanding actually. The suits they were wearing are called ‘Zhongshan suits’, those were very few if not the only kind of clothes that were widely produced by state owned factories back in Mao’s era. (The intention promoting the suits nation-wide back in the times is for having more ‘civilized’ citizens though). As a worker, you always get those kind of suits from the company, and that could be viewed as a benefit because you get free clothes. So the fact is that most workers didn’t have much clothes to choose from. Nowadays people are rich and have abundant clothes to choose from, so you will see them less often.

Somehow somewhat as a Singaporean I feel a need to dispute on the line, but yet it’s uncannily true, on some points. Such as infrastructure wise, both governments took a serious stance to push for public infrastructures to bring about greater convenience. That’s why both countries are way ahead in terms of connectivity and modern amenities aplenty. Difference at first instance is language. A typical Singaporean can converse in 2 languages at least, whereas most Chinese only knew mandarin, despite English is being taught in schools. And those whom are able to speak English has poor comprehension and command of the language. Of course there are still people whom are comfortable in the language. Language wise, Singapore would make foreign visitors easy to navigate.
@@vennsim71 yes everything is accurate, i think Singapore is a bit more similar or even more similar to HK or maybe shanghai for being an old western hub.
@@JC.72 that one about HK I beg to differ. HK other than the CBD is dilapidated and crumbling. Public infrastructures are not well maintained. You get glitzy malls and once you stepped out it’s a different world altogether. People tend to be pretty aloof and snappy… and are poor in the grasp in English, which tends to be not very helpful to foreign visitors. Shanghai infrastructures wise would be more akin to Singapore, well-maintained and clean. Public infrastructures and amenities are plentiful. And has a good mix of modern and historical buildings, all well-maintained.

Having spent 30 years of his life in China/Asia, he must have adapted very well into Chinese/Asian society, to not want to go back to the West. I like his optimism.
Great interview and very valuable insight. Especially for me who is a Chinese raised in the west looking to move back to Asia. Would love to hear more similar content, especially from a businessman perspective on how to go about with things.
Yup! What the West do in the name of "National Security".... like e.g. nationwide surveillance to counter terrorism, efficient way to locate and to apprehend criminals, etc... they rephrased that to "government control, authoritarian, dictatorship, etc." when that is practiced in China to protect their citizen which resulted in very little crimes.
@ , nationalism cant work in a condition where there have alot of different ethnicians and have multiculturism like in china, but in the west in some country it might work where there have more a unipolar culture.

I've been to many dinners and have been exposed to the Gumbai war. I was drinking 3 or 4 times more than everyone one else on one particular gathering. It was hilarious but they definitely underestimated my drinking experience. Being Australia, I had many heavy drinking sessions back in the day with my mates. I'm not proud of it but that was the life we grew up in. I'm not a big drinker now but still enjoy a social tipple now and again. Anyway, back to this particular dinner where at least 4 Chinese blokes kind of challenge me to this arm wresting competition of down the hatch. You could see that they were very confident and keen to see me tipple over. Having said that however, they were very friendly and I was sure that if I need a hand to walk they would all be right there by my side. We all got plasted and they started realising that they were up against a seasoned pisshead and that I didn't need to be carried back to my hotel. They had to back off and everyone ended up having a great time. We all staggered out together with big smiles on our faces. It's the most enjoyable booze battle to have been in. The Chinese girls weren't so impressed but saw the unique comradeship that developed. I don't even speak Mandarin but it wouldn't made much difference in the state we were in.

@ Chinese hospitality = Chinese espionage. He doesn’t understand the eating and drinking culture of Chinese. I doubt if he can socialize with them well. Also Chinese out there to compete against the US? The Chinese will learn a few things from the west because they are practical people and they are fast learners but they are not out there to purposely to aggressively dominate the US. They always thought the world is big enough for all of humanity. The Chinese looks at things holistically at a macro level, they do not become nationalist just because they get together in a group. And he doesn’t understand that. Like all East Asians they are good at cooperation and work in unison but its not nationalistic. It’s the US whose trying to aggressively dominate others. He understand Chinese from a western perspective. Perhaps he’s been too hard at work all these years in China running his factory and not have paid too much attention to being Chinese. There’s a Russian guy who is also married to a Chinese and lives in China for just a few years, he runs a Chinese Car parallel import biz into Russia. You might have an interest in his videos since you are Russian. His Chinese is not that good(not this guy in your video is much better from the sounds of it) but he knows better about Chinese culture than this guy.
He doesn’t know how to make full use of Chinese hospitality for a win-win he’s treating it as an espionage. In addition, he mistaken the holistic approach of the Chinese being nationalistic. After over 30 years in China he still looks at China with western lens.

On the first day of elementary school, some older kids told me that we, the younger grade students, were fortunate because the school now provided chairs for us. In contrast, when they were in the first grade, they had to carry their wooden stools from home to school. Therefore, in my opinion, the economic growth began in the 1980s rather than the 2000s. However, I am uncertain if this optimistic outlook still exists in China after Xi Jinping seized power.

Yellow Peril you mean? Yea, the racism and xenophobia is in the roots of the Anglo Saxon world and it dates way back.

@ysw8291 ,
Dun get me wrong.
不知道你二十年去的哪个城市,这样的情况其实非常罕见的。但20年过去了,现在中国已经今非昔比,来了会让你更为惊讶

Singapore is a little China
China is a big Singapore
Although these two countries hv different political system, but they hv many similarities
Lee Kwan Yew is Han Chinese himself
1 of the four dragons

We Chinese people love China and our own government. We really don’t understand why Western countries insist on forcibly imposing on us the values and political systems they believe are correct. Don’t we have the freedom to choose?
The west believes only their view is ever correct. No other view is considered, particularly if it's a view held by non western countries.
Because they want to remain dominant. To remain dominant you have to oppress other countries from taking over. The west uses oppression to stay ahead.

There were honest and neutral British opinions under guidence and skill of the interviewer. It was a good interview.
