I think Morphy - Schulten 1857 would be worth a cover, as Morphy has a similar broken kingside as Paulsen does in this game, yet again strangles his opponent's development like the master he is and wins with a lovely queen sacrifice.
Qd3 also appears in a well known "grandmaster draw" line in the exchange Ruy: 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 a6 4.Bxc6 dxc6 5.O-O Bg4 6.h3 h5 7.c3 Qd3 8.hxg4 hxg4 9.Nxe5 Bd6 10.Nxd3 Bh2+
I love these immortal games! I used to run through them on an old chess program, admiring the artistry. Thanks for responding so quickly with your offer of uploading more material like this from your previous video. Also, my Oh No My Queen hoodie arrived... it will get a lot of wear.
My favorite Morphy game is Bird - Morphy, 1857 where he unleashes the beautiful Rxf2!!, Bxf2 Qa3!! and just destroys his opponent immediately. Fantastic geometry involved in that sequence.
I just saw a TED Ed video today entitled "A Brief History of Chess" which was published on RUclips three years ago. I think it referenced this exact game as a major turning point in chess strategy.
I knew this game because of the Qd3 move, but I'm glad you took your time to explain the Stafford style idea, never seen anybody pick up on that idea and explaining it.
Yes please Eric! More in this series would be welcome. [smile] In particular show; "The gold coin game" & the queen sac followed by 2 knights forcing the king across the board ending in a rook sac followed by whites king stepping out of the way to allow the other rook to mate. Sorry for the long description, I don't know the players or the names of those games. [lol &a grin]
What makes a game classical, is it the amount of time they have? I thought it was when they played the game but Eric said he played a classical tournament so that's not it lol
I think it's right that in those days they didn't have chess clocks. Morphy taking 12 minutes for the big move sounds a lot, but I think Paulsen was terrible for taking hours over some of his moves, and that was partly what gave rise to time controls being brought in. I can't remember my source for any of that! - but I think it's right.
love the chess games that everyone should know! Popular streamers sometimes sway too far to entertainment and not enough instruction. I love your channel for the instruction! AND the quacks :)
legendary games are the coolest content. learning from tal about crazy sacrifices and absolutely dubious attacks for Marianczello got me to 1200 basically
This is a fantastic series. If I might make a suggestion: I'd love to see you cover Robert Byrne vs Bobby Fischer (1963). After the Game of the Century, this is probably my favourite Fischer game, because the sacrifice is so deep.
Definitely keep this series going, I'm really excited to see what more games you will be showing in the next few videos. Keep up the amazing content Eric!
I’d love to see a ‘classics’ series. Maybe Petrosian, Alekhine, Fischer, or Karpov. Going through and explaining like you have for this game and the zugzwang game. I enjoy ur seeing ur thought process and love that ur not screaming at the top of ur lungs haha
Morphy was so far ahead of his time he is definitely my #1 favorite. It’s too bad he didn’t take chess as serious as players do today and really unfortunate he was born in the 1800’s 😅. People underestimate his strength just because most if not all of his opponents were just average players and that’s not really his fault.
Anderssen, Paulsen, Staunton were definitely not average players, just as example. Although Morphy did not play with Staunton, there were many very strong opponents.
Morphy also had a really good score against Anderssen and Paulsen. I think Anderssen was actually a good player so he is one of the few players that I think shows Morphy’s true strength. That’s why I said most in my comment because some players were good back then, just nobody strong enough to have Morphy be recognized as one of the strongest players of all time (I’d argue at least top 5).
Eric I Love this exact type of coverage and commentary .. EXCELLENT! I play over all the Classics and it's what gave birth to my Lifelong fascination with the game. PLEASE DO continue this very type of content, I'll be on the edge of my seat awaiting them. HUGE THUMBS UP AND SHARED TO MY ENTIRE EMAIL CONTACTS LIST. Bless YA, .. Mike.
What about that game Kasparov versus Karpov with the octopus knight? I know that it's a mainstream, but I would like to see an analysis of this game from your perspective
Eric! I would love to see you make videos on games everyone should know. But keep this in mind. Nobody shows the whole game first. Show the whole game quickly... then get into the analysis and what ifs! I can't be the only one who gets lost at times with... shoulda, woulda, coulda then Agodmator or gothom or whoever it is says. But what was really played in the game was... Or they don't even tell you the structure of moves they're talking about is hypothetical in the first place. Show the whole game first. You'll stand out among everyone else showing classic games.
Instead of Ra2, Qa6 a move earlier than was played would force the back queen away from d3 although black would still be much better. In this game white, starting with Bf3 instead of c3, always played the right move one move too late when it became a bad move.
Rumor has it Paul Morphy made the move and said, “chat, oh no, my queen” followed by “gah”
🤣
And then "somebody call an ambulance..."
I think it's a mouse slip
"...checkmate" *laughs*
@@biharek7595 damn, i can hear the "hehehe" clearly in my mind lol.
Agadmator's Morphy saga is the reason I got into chess.
His coverage of Morphy's games against Mr. Barnes is peak chess content.
We are blessed to live in a world where people like Eric can casually share their passion and knowledge like that
I think Morphy - Schulten 1857 would be worth a cover, as Morphy has a similar broken kingside as Paulsen does in this game, yet again strangles his opponent's development like the master he is and wins with a lovely queen sacrifice.
This is a classic ONMQ game! Thanks for reviewing it!
it’s also nice when you let the viewer try and guess the move
This game analysis is what I've missed from this channel. I discovered Eric long ago from his STL-CC lectures on games and positional tactics.
Qd3 also appears in a well known "grandmaster draw" line in the exchange Ruy: 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 a6 4.Bxc6 dxc6 5.O-O Bg4 6.h3 h5 7.c3 Qd3 8.hxg4 hxg4 9.Nxe5 Bd6 10.Nxd3 Bh2+

Eric is the new Agadmator
Murphy vs Le Carpentier 1849 is also worth a look. Love the vids Eric
Agadmator said that, you have to run engine in a very high depth for it to find the queen sac.
Yes please Eric! More in this series would be welcome. [smile] In particular show; "The gold coin game" & the queen sac followed by 2 knights forcing the king across the board ending in a rook sac followed by whites king stepping out of the way to allow the other rook to mate. Hey Eric, glad to see you doing these types of videos. Always a delight to see your content :)
loving this series
I am SO EXCITED for this and for any other classical games you share! Thanks so much for all your hard work on your awesome content!
What makes a game classical, is it the amount of time they have? I thought it was when they played the game but Eric said he played a classical tournament so that's not it lol
Best analysis I've seen in ages! Wow, you are a great teacher.

I like this series a LOT
love the chess games that everyone should know! Popular streamers sometimes sway too far to entertainment and not enough instruction. I love your channel for the instruction! AND the quacks :)
also, quack
2:25 is very reminiscent of stafford gambit!
Edit: oh, you pointed this out later lol
More videos like this please! Love your minis lecture on St. Louis Chess Club too!

Even if ppl know the game, we would still love your take on it Eric! Thanks!!
I love this type of content from you!
Please continue to add these in 🙏
Morphy vs Bird in the Philidor Counter-gambit! Sacrifices the Rook for a pawn and then the Queen, although Bird didn't accept
Since Zugzwang is a german and I‘m german I love how English natives pronounce Zugzwang😂
Managed to find the move, didnt calculate well enough till the end tho.
These videos r nice. A series would be epic
Loved this video! Would love to see more classic games!
This is a good series idea
am loving it.
loving the series, keep up the great work!
Definitely keep this series going, I'm really excited to see what more games you will be showing in the next few videos. Keep up the amazing content Eric!

Thank you Eric, great video!
Made a game gift of this to share to my chess club, thank you so much for sharing sidelines and such it really helps with understanding 💖💖
Fabulous game. Thanks for this content, Eric!
Loved the new series idea!!
imagine playing a game that's so good that it's still discussed 150 years later
thank you Eric, this is very helpful , some games that contains standard plans and ideas on how to continue after the opening
Wow what a coincidence... I found this game looking for Morphy's best games, and the next day we have this video uploaded on RUclips
Morphy was so far ahead of his time he is definitely my #1 favorite. It’s too bad he didn’t take chess as serious as players do today and really unfortunate he was born in the 1800’s 😅. Thanks for this series! I need to know these games
Looking forward to this series!
Great series! Looking forward to learning more games!
Oh yes, my chess history lessons!

I heard Eric is dating both of the Botez sisters at the same time
They wish
Great instruction, thank you Rosen for your great content!
After Bh3 there is Qd3 giving black nothing. Please cover thid line
This series is premium content, thank you!
Eric I Love this exact type of coverage and commentary .. EXCELLENT! I play over all the Classics and it's what gave birth to my Lifelong fascination with the game. I see Paul Morphy I click
Paul Morphy's games never grow old.
"Oh no my queen" from the annuls of history version
What about that game Kasparov versus Karpov with the octopus knight? I know that it's a mainstream, but I would like to see an analysis of this game from your perspective
Great idea. Looks like there will be more Eric Rosen in my life soon. :)
Morphy's Opera game would be great !
Paul morphy came out as gay after this game, he sacrificed his queen to win himself a king
Soild video. Learned new tactics.
I haven’t even watched this video yet and I already want to say: this is superb content, thank you.
Yeah, Morphy was ahead of his time. Thanks for the video.
Is there a historical stafford gambit you can cover??
YES to the new series
Keep these videos coming
I never comment on youtube videos, but I'd like to say that a series of games everyone should know would be great to see!
Yes keep doing these vidoes! I love it!

Awesome new series
please make more videos about famous chess games
Queen d3 is the original duck chess move
I’m not an expert but I think Morphys best queen sac happened in an opera house
interesting that d4 was the last move white made in the game
So basically Tal is Morphy on steroids
Eric, please do more content like this. If you can please do the Emory tate vs yudasin game. Its wildddd and the name will get clicks to your channel
requesting Morphy v Schulten. I think its the only time somebody tried the Falkbeer against him
It's where it all started...
Instead of Ra2, Qa6 a move earlier than was played would force the back queen away from d3 although black would still be much better. In this game white, starting with Bf3 instead of c3, always played the right move one move too late when it became a bad move.
Eric, I think a cooler move is bg2+ after the attempted rg1 defense.
Great title change
Love this content!
And then he sacrifices THE KNIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can you do a video about Nezhmetdinov or Morozevich games ? Really under appreciated
Great content as always :) can you make a video on how to analyze and learn on your own from the classical games
What a game!
Morphy vs Scrufer, I made an animated video of it for kids for my old company as a chess coach.
Yesss!! Great videos!!
Love the content!
his name is Louis Paulsen! his name is Louis Paulsen!
Can you review the beautiful Paul Morphy Opera Game?
Someone call an ambulance but not for Morphy.
