Young Sheldon is an American comedy television series on CBS created by Chuck Lorre and Steven Molaro. The series is a spin-off prequel to The Big Bang Theory and begins with the character Sheldon Cooper at the age of nine, living with his family in East Texas and going to high school. Iain Armitage stars as young Sheldon, alongside Zoe Perry, Lance Barber, Montana Jordan, Raegan Revord, and Annie Potts. @Nathan Taffijn but babysitting is very VERY different than having your own child and raising them. It's a different connection, that person was created with their body.

@Chellieliola I got all these homies and they've been smoking ever since vaping became a huge thing. It sucks to see them addicted, but they know the consequences. It sucks even more to see high school freshmen already have one or two years of nic addictions. And they get more annoying every year :/
@Chellieliola The word "fad" implies that it's died down. Unfortunately, it most certainly hasn't. I wish all these kids could stop vaping and smoking. It keeps on happening. Hook 'em while they're young and they're lifetime customers
@Chellieliola You're right about being 14 and feeling invincible. Preteens and teens of any each have a very powerful superiority complex. It takes a lot for a teen to overcome it at that age. And the ones who do overcome it are too late and are probably heavily addicted. I'm close to powerless from stopping my friends and peers from vaping or doing nic, no matter how close I am with them or my own prior experiences with drugs. My remarks about how bad it is are brushed off. If I take their vape from them then I'm an asshole. So I just tell them I'm there for them if they wanna quit, but they're playing stupid games and they're gonna win stupid prizes. Oh well.
8 years strong and 8 years of regret and waste of money
I wish someone had taken a megaphone out in my high school and said that. Not because I have dealt with the problem of smoking/vaping directly, but so I didn’t have to tell a teacher about two freshman in my senior year. They hated me afterwards, but my rationale will always be “if someone is walking into a wall, are you going to step in front of them or let their head bruise?” I thought if I told it would be better for them, maybe I shouldn’t have given one of their names, but at that point my mind was set on helping. So yeah.
I always thought Meemaw was this innocent old lady in a robe that baked cookies, not jaded Dolly Parton 😂
Well there is 25 years between the series and when we meet her in TBBT, maybe she mellows.....
Sheldon is oblivious. He also thinks the world revolves around him.

It's sad how Missy was overlooked due to Sheldon's brilliance when she was brilliant herself. Sheldon had high IQ while Missy has high EQ.

Did you know that people with high a EQ usually have a high IQ as well. Hers was probably just not as prominent compared to Sheldon

When the did the "Twin" study, they showed Missy and Sheldon had their own strengths. Since Sheldon is probably autistic, he has a hyper focus. She has great people skills and is quite intuitive. She has 2 brothers. She can hold her own.

Seems like a lot of women PAST THEIR EXPIRATION DATE out there.....it's sad, but eventually the compliments slowly dry up and stop completely for all of us.

In the last month, both of my kids (both adults) have told me I am/was a good mom. I don't think I've ever in my life had a compliment that made me feel better than that. :)
Amen. My grown sons' friends all individually made time to tell me what wonderful people they were at the first one's wedding. An amazing wedding, but this was the gift of a lifetime. Raising kids that are respected and enjoyed by others when they're grown. Parents' dream.

she's your typical christian mom who wants to force her believes on her kids. I can understand why she's targeted.
@@jakoby256 every parent 'forces' their beliefs on their kids. With the non-religious, it's more subtle because it's "normal". But in not teaching kids about different worldviews (including religion), these kids grow up without the opportunity to make a decision themselves, because they don't even realise that there's a choice to make.
Kids in a religious household at least know that there's a choice to make and alternatives to their upbringing.
Frosted she just wants her kids to be happier than she was at their age and not make the mistakes she made. That’s a good mom. Also, the closest I’ve seen her “force” her Jesus on her kids is praying for Sheldon in front of Sheldon. That’s just being a good parent.

@@jakoby256 I agree there are fanatical parents out there. My point is that every child forms their worldview from their upbringing. So an athetist who scoffs at the existence of a diety will bring their children up that way.
The difference is that in most Western societies, that same view is mirrored in most schools and therefore children do not even realise that they are 'forced' down a path. Children from religious families in the same society KNOW that an alternative exists. Same can be said (in reverse) for traditional religious societies (eg Middle East).

Because Mary has ignored her daughter and fawned all over Sheldon so Missy has had to learn to take care of herself. Mary Cooper is a horrible parent!

Shes not the most amazing mom but shes also not completely horrible, terrible moms look different. Theres no abuse going on, she doesn’t use emotional abuse (constant yelling etc.) she provides and tries her best but bc Sheldon has so much Special needs she overlooks the others often but so does the dad - Georgie & Missy get overlooed so often and Till the later seasons George Senior also neglects Missy.. like she says so herself in the EQ expirememt „Nobodys on my Team - Meemaw & Mom fuss over Sheldon, Dad plays Baseball with Georgie and shes alone“

I agree. And the fact that the young Sheldon is sometimes portrayed as an actual pain in the ass is quite amazing. (I know it's just a show, but the acting is so well done I find myself wanting to give Sheldon a good "smack" now and then...🤣)

I was a twin but me, not my sister, was the one who almost didn't make it. I was in fetal distress and my Mom had to have a C-section, six weeks premature.
Also, in the first episode where Mary visited Sheldon in Pasadena, she told Penny that "When I was your age, you could have me for a car ride and a bottle of strawberry wine," so she was definitely a bit of a wild child.
These two help make this a great show. The whole ensemble is wonderful. The only sitcom I watch any more.
It's called Young Sheldon, but I'm not watching for him.

I love all characters, the producers, actors, writers etc are doing an amazing job at keeping all the characters well balanced with very interesting personalities and traits. I like Georgie in particular, but really they're all great, including Sheldon

Mee maw telling Mary she's a good mother is very important. We should all tell our family and friends that they're a good mother, often. Somedays you really need to hear that. Sometimes you just need to hear you're a good wife, mother, and person. Sometimes someone else really needs to hear that too.
Remember sometimes your husband needs to hear that he's a good husband, father, and person too, don't forget him too.

I feel like Annie Potts and the "Young Sheldon" writers are influenced by the three characters for Meemaw.
FYI: My dream would be a "Designing Women"-like reunion on "Young Sheldon" with guest stars Delta Burke and Jean Smart in a Meemaw plot or subplot. Their characters would make tongue in cheek comments about "Designing Women" later in the episode's closing scene.

yes, I knew all those details......because it is my favorite show and probably the only one I look forward to watching. Cast is fantastic! Story line is fun to follow after watching Big Bang for so long.
Missy's childhood is generally how childhood should be. It is just that neither the school that she went to, nor her parents, had enough knowledge to impart her with a good enough education to be able to do much in her life. And then the death of the patriarch. This is actually a story of a lot of people in this country.
Missy has very nice eyes. She looks smart . Bright eyes bright mind. I think she is the star of the show her and Mee-maw

I do it at random times but I always hug my mom and tell her she’s the best mom ever. We both nearly died together when she went into labor with me. My dad described it as the most scary thing he’s ever had to go thru in his life. 25 years later she’s making me pancakes while I cook the bacon 💕
What the wonders of the show is .. the storyline happens in the 20th century and there's no sexist remarks or bad stereotyping and such stuffs unlike the existing 21st century world🤗...Kudos to the writers

I had a male friend whose marriage crumbled because when he met the woman who would become his wife, she had spent her 20s being a wild child, and he was kind of looking forward to a little of that in the marriage. But she saw him as a stable rock she could build a family around and became pious, devout and wholesome. They never could resolve that.
Every time I watch this show I think they based Meemaw after my own grandma and it just makes me all happy & nostalgic

Mary's protectiveness of Sheldon would actually make some SENSE if it HAD been SHELDON who had had the problem though.
But Mary is biased and doesn't fuss over her other kids trying to integrate them into careers. True Sheldon has needs and lacks social abilities but everybody has their own strengths. Missy and George have shown time and again their street smart- ness and have risen to their situations. They aren't dimwits and deserve more invested parents.
If you think about it she got what she wanted. Her kid was healthy now onto the next one instead of investing in all three.

If she’d taken the time to invest in all 3, then all 3 children would’ve been more successful. Sheldon wouldn’t seen a genius scientist either way, Georgie would’ve started up his company sooner and Missy could’ve actually gotten somewhere.
