I carry the G48 with the SA 15 round mags daily. Hands down the best combination of shootability/capacity/comfortable carry of any gun I have ever had. I had a Kydex holster custom made that lets the gun ride a bit higher on my waist. This enables me to bend over without the muzzle digging into my groin and also get an easy grip without my belt betting into the way of my fingers. With the Holosun 507K sight, it is an optimal EDC package. In my opinion anyway.

    I just upgraded to a G48 from a 42.

Try before you buy is absolutely the best advice for choosing your carry pistol. I'm quite happy that the classic subcompacts fit me perfectly; the 43, 48, Hellcat and 365 are just too small for me. This gives me a large list of compatibility options in holsters and magazines.

We live in the golden times for conceal carry choices as well as holster choices. Having carried a g19 for the better part of two decades with a very small stature, I prefer the hellcat for summer carry. The 48 is the same size as a g19 just thinner. The advice to shoot before buy is a good one, but most people won’t have that option. Another thing to remember is that conceal carry guns aren’t going to be as comfortable or accurate as a bigger target or duty size gun and that is what a lot of people fail to remember when picking a conceal carry gun. They want full size comfortable shooting in the smallest package possible.

Wish I had waited a little; I found a 48 MOS and bought it (when you see a Unicorn, take action). Somehow discovered John at Phlster about the same time. Ordered a Phlster Pro for the 48/43X. Wow. With a little tweaking, either gun disappears. It's hard to tell the difference between the two in the holster, when with the 43X & LAS, I had problems with grip tip over. I actually like shooting the 43X a little more than the 48....maybe because I've had it longer.

I cannot recommend the G43, have 8 round mags for it(+2 extension,) but would highly recommend the G43x or the G48 first & foremost. All handgun makers are going to higher capacity magazines for their smaller handguns. Have carried the G43 for a couple years, including a lot of action pistol shootings, and too many hours to count dry firing. The stock G43 magazine is a bit of concern to me when loading the mag. Dry fire some & you'll notice the last bullet not fitting perfectly in the magazine. Though all my action shooting events, I never had a malfunction. And the stock G43 trigger has much to be desired, as well. I own several Johnny Glock triggers, and they make all my Glock's a pleasure to shoot. Don't forget to be patient to purchase the Shield Arm (out of stock now) 15 round magazines for your G43x & your G48. Also, red dot & a weapon lights are musts to have in today's times for all personal protection weapons.

Yes, this is true. I believe the P365 XL runs short at 6 additional mags and nothing more.

Went to a Shoot Point Blank and rented a bunch of 9mm pistols
Based on my exhaustive research I was leaning heavily towards buying a CZ P-10c But when I shot it the trigger pinched my finger badly essentially every shot
Ended up shooting the P320 absolutely the best and now the P320 is my primary full sized handgun
Excellent advice I feel it is if at all humanly possible mandatory to first shoot any handgun before you buy it. Even if it requires you drive 2-3 hours round trip as that's far less costly than buying a $500-$600+ HG you then find out you don't like or enjoy shooting as after all your primary reason for buying the gun is to God forbid you must use it to defend the lives of your loved ones or yourself
I ended up buying three and selling two other concealed carry specific handguns before I ended up with what I carry and most prefer.

In my decision of the 43X vs 48 I was first decided on the 48 but later considered the 43X more appropriate. The 48 slide and barrel hang out over the frame considerably. My concern was that overhang may cause the 48 to be pushed out of battery during a close range situation that may actually be a hands on struggle. I also think that at close range a short barrel gun is faster. The short barrel clears the holster and clothing barriers faster. Thecshort sight radius also give the perception that sights are lined up faster because they are closer together. Anyway I hope you enjoy your 48 and I hope it serves you well.

Finding the right holster for your body type and carry position is, in my humble opinion, just as important as selecting which firearm to carry. One thing I learned in my trials is buy quality holster. The cheapo $20-$50 just don’t fit it for me in most applications. Right now I’ve got a $200 Axis Elite with my P365X with a TLR-6 at 12 o’clock and I don’t hardly notice it. Carrying the same setup in my $80 Tulster Oath or $90 vedder tuck was very uncomfortable, didn’t conceal well, or provide a good enough grip from the draw. Some good high end companies to look at are Tier 1, Tenicore, and TXC. Good luck! 👍🏻

Great video. You are right about that there are many other considerations besides concealabilty and magazine capacity. I picked up the 365 back in 2018 and after carrying it for 2 years I wanted something with a longer grip because if I ever have to draw it, a larger grip feels more natural to me especially when the stress level is high and adrenaline is pumping up also. Now don't get me wrong, I have trained extensively on my 365 but a larger grip just feels better in those situations. Now I picked up the G48 because I couldn't find a 365xl then. But I did also get a 365xl later. And my son owns the hellcat. Of these firearms I do favor the G48 more. I shoot them all extremely well and yes the Hellcat does have more recoil. Best advice for anything. Try before you buy. Its shocking to me in this day and age when people don't try and/or do research. My cousin bought 2 cars without test driving. He HATES maybe even Loathes one of them. I told him ever hear of enterprise rent a car. A weeks worth of rent is cheaper than a bad mistake. He had it 5 years & got lucky (rarely drove it) selling it with this whole car shortage and only lost 1 grand. If he'd sold it before he'd have lost 6 grand from purchase price. Anyway guns are the same way especially with being accurate enough and palm fit feel.

While I truly appreciate your perspective of giving advice to shot a pistol before a purchase is what I heard every firearm instructor say repeatedly. The reality is that a significant amount of ranges have all of the old Glock and M&P pistols to rent out. The newest pistols are behind the counter for new sales and they never see the inside of the rental counter. If you have a friend in AZ that will let us try all of the latest pistols then send her our way. Your recommendation is based off sound judgement but not based on practically and the reality of the situation that a great majority of us have to deal with. That is why we look to people like yourself to give us a unique perspective of firearms that we will never be given the opportunity to shot unless we buy it. Not that I’m being hard on you but this recommendation gets repeated often but rarely challenged.

    • @tessahbooth

Thanks for pointing that out. That's not a challenge I have had to face, although that is not because I have a friend that can hook me up. Every gun I shot in this video was on the rental counter. Anyone could have walked into Shooters World in Peoria, AZ, and had the same experience as I did. I have lived in three states over the last three years, some of those areas being quite small towns. Although each town is different, this includes the Pacific Northwest, the Southeast, and Southwest. I haven't had any issues finding ranges that will allow me to rent guns and shoot them within an hours drive, so long as they had ammunition to offer.
These are tough times for ammunition, and guns can be hard to come by, but that doesn't change the fact that IF you have the option to rent a gun before you purchase it then that would be ideal. If not, many beginners can benefit from at least handling guns before they buy them.

Great presentation. I chose the 48 as well. Only I purchased a lot of others along the way...CC seemed to always be an issue. I was either giving up capacity or concealment. I carried a G43 for quite some time with an extended mag. When the 48 came across my radar, with the Franken gun option and the SA mags, I was sold. With the extra length, it has calmed some of the muzzle flip.
Last point. I purchased a fat guy holster by JX Tactical. No, I'm not a fat guy but was sold on the fact that it sits a little lower in the pants line. I can easily wear a thin tank top shirt and shorts and the gun is invisible. The only alteration I made was I bought a wedge for comfort.

I’m kind of the other way. I buy a gun I’m interested in at a really good price online and shoot/carry it for a while and if I don’t like it I can usually sell it for about what I paid for it. You can only learn so much about a gun from shooting it at the range. You really need multiple range sessions and to carry it for a few weeks to decide if it’s right for you.

    • @tessahbooth
      @tessahbooth  3 года назад +1

Being able to shoot it multiple times, and potentially carry it would definitely give someone a better "feel", but that's certainly not a practical method for most people :)

I think the carry portion of picking out a carry gun is just as important. We “carry” the guns 99% of the time. If the only thing we cared about was how it shot while standing on a static firing range we’d all be carrying full size double stacks 😅 I buy online and sell off what I don’t like. If a lose a few bucks it’s just the price of learning what I do or don’t like. But I think the knowledge gained is worth the price when choosing your primary self defense carry gun.

I bought the Hellcat OSP in FDE color as my first firearm and edc. The name, design of the gun and features just sold me..also that FDE color. I'll say the Hellcat was not a fun range gun first time around. It chewed my fingers up trying to manually load the rounds in the mags since the springs were so tough. I didn't know how to use the mag loader then 🙄. The slide release was nearly impossible to push down on. I got a blister on my pinky from the mag and on my middle finger from the trigger guard after 100 rds. My hands are just soft girly hands I guess 😆 Ive bought some gloves and I'm using the mag loader to make to make the range experience better. I practice some with no gloves of course cuz this will be my ccw. It was rough the first time but it's getting better! Also is it just me or does cleaning a gun feel therapeutic? 😄

I have owned dozens of pistols over the years (early 70's on) and REALLY tried to like golcks but could never overcome the reason you described. In my early 60's S&W came out with the MP9 4" compact which worked out pretty well and I ended up with three of them. THEN, glock came out with the 48/43X and I bought both and absolutly love them both. The grip angle just seems to work, the slimness of the pistol (especially the grip) works with my small hands. With the Shield 15 rd mags, glock really has a winner in these pistols. Try one at the range and see what you think.

What is insane is to see from die-hard Glock loyalists calling "Glock clones" the newly developed striker-fired polymer frame modern handguns. Those people cannot understand that once the Glock patent expired, other reputable gun manufacturers went into redesigning their own platforms, in many cases improving and modifying the Glock model for the betterment of the pistol. It is a matter of fact, indisputable, that Walther Arms, Hecker & Koch, Canik Firearms, CZ Handguns, FNH, and others, improved their pistols triggers making them noticeably better than the Glock's.
With that said, I am not trashing out Glock, we all know Gaston Glock was an uber genius, who revolutionized the design of traditional handguns. Glocks are great pistols, no question about that. However, "out of the box" Glocks require additional accessories and gunsmith work to make them par with the new models out there from different firearms makers. Let us accept positive changes and evolution, and don't get stuck in "only Glock" is good and the rest are "inferior or imitation" guns.
