Honestly it likely came down more to MKLeo's conditioning rather than Prodigy being anywhere near his skill level. MKLeo has a ton of matchup experience with Marios who play the exact same. Prodigy does have an unorthodox style compared to players like Dark W., Masta, Zenyou, etc. Leo was too conditioned to the typical mario style and didnt adapt quick enough.
If they ever face eachother again, no doubt Leo won't make the mistake of expecting the exact same Mario stuff he gets against Wizzy

Yeah, people don't understand how upsets work. Just because you 3-0 the best player in the world doesn't mean you're in favor of beating someone who is probably top 20-30. I actually get mad when upsets happen because that means we're going to get a shittier next set because chances are, they're going to get destroyed.

Matty's ledge game actually is the shit though. Throughout the whole game a lot of his stocks were just good edge guards or using the ledge to his advantage

What I noticed is that Prodigy is really good at chasing people, and what Matty seemed to do is just not run away and Prodigy didn't manage to adapt to that playstyle in time.
Officially a fan of MattyG now (partly because I'm a Chrom main and also because of his amazing performance). Oh, and he got 13th at Frostbite 2020, not too shabby.
Well he beat Leo in a manner no one else has before him so he’s still got something to be very proud of. On a side note if Leo turns it around and places first he will be an official god.

i think leo's ego made him play like he plays, but everyone else learned prodigy's way to play and went against that, that's why leo swallowed every combo and lost 3-0 but no one else did

The pichu was nietono man's 27th on the pgr no surprise that he lost there pichu is effectively better Mario and I haven't heard of this chrom before, but he got 14th so he's really good as well also swords vs Mario is tough and the dudes 15 probs burned out after getting this far

Absolute bullshit game jank. He was 100% way past the range chroms recovery hitboxes are suppose to have. Literally none of those hits even touched Mario except the very last one when he's sucked in despite all the hits not making contact.
the last hit of the spin is the one that sucks you in and down, so it's just you not having good knowledge about Chrom's hitboxes. Also, hitboxes usually exist outside of the attack animations as well to ensure they hit smaller hurtboxes. Just look at the hitbox visualisations by UFD

First of all, the last hit being the one that sucks you in is irrelevant, he was out of range from the beginning and none of the hits leading up to it should have happened. Here is a link of this exact fight on the frame of impact, with an overlay of Chrom's hitboxes scaled to size and rotated, to show just how far in the hitbox would reach. The Mario was well outside of the range it was suppose to be able to reach.

@J Minor He beat MKLeo with his "one trick" so obviously he's doing something right. The saying "I don't fear the man who practices ten thousand kicks one time, I fear the man who practices one kick ten thousand times" holds very true with how well this kid does with Mario.
@J Minor well considering he's still one of the best Marios out there I'd say that's still pretty good, and not really a "one hit wonder" by any stretch. He's consistently done well. I'd say that's a pretty great claim to fame in the Smash world. What's yours?

Mario can kill Chrom at 0% if he floods SS, but MattyG noticed that Prodigy miss-spaced flood (probably miss-spaced due to lack of MU experience since there are no strong Chrom players in norcal - Prodigy's region) and so MattyG held in at the arch of his SS in order to clip Prodigy and drag him down to hell with him. Not luck

I've been trying that mario combo @ 0:52 , I put the damage @ 26% on Chrom and I can't up air him in time before he lands on the ground. Can anyone else do this combo? I don't get why he can do it but I can't. I'm doing instant short hop up air and it doesn't hit and doesn't seem possible until 31%

Combo only works between 30-40%. He was at 26% and he knew downthrow would put then into that range so he could get the combo. Any percent after that up-air sends them to high to true combo it. It’ll take some time to get the timing right :)
Make sure to buffer short hop up-air as soon as they hit the ground btw

People underestimate their speed and you can surprise em with their dash attack. Currently playing Chrom and loving how much speed and range he has. Hits like a truck too.

@@AbeDorf18 I agree. However, as I was saying people get surprised by the speed sometimes from their dash attack, much faster than Lucina/Marth.
R Rodriguez no chrom and roys dash attack is exactly the same speed as marth and lucinas at 13 frames.
@@AbeDorf18 maybe we're having a miscommunication here, I am referring to their speed as well, which causes their dash attack to feel different than Marth/Lucina. Roy and Chrom are slightly faster runners.
