Welcome to “Legends of Lancaster,” a video series where we go in depth into the lore and legends of Lancaster County. These mini-documentaries will touch on everything from intriguing history, to colorful myths, to various tall tales that have been passed down through generations.
In this episode, LancasterOnline videographer Tyler Huber takes a look at the Buzzard Gang, which terrorized the Welsh Mountain region of Lancaster County in the late 1800s and early 1900s.
"Legends of Lancaster" features stories that are mysterious or unexplained, but this topic is very real. Local newspapers were flooded with stories from this infamous band of criminals and a few members became known nationally. Huber talked to a leading Buzzard Gang researcher and dug through a trove of newspaper articles to tell this intriguing tale of the Buzzard’s life of true crime.
