    Seems like every time you turn around there is something else but you have the right idea as far as I am concerned - do it right! Isn't God good, He supplies us with what we need in our life. I watched your Porch Time where you explained how the RV was a challenge for you and we can see how this is helping. I have applied this to my life. Praying for you and Wanda. Thank you and God bless.

    The way those RV's are thrown together it is a wonder they stay together as long as they do. You will have a stable safe RV by the time your finished rebuilding this one.

    The one thing you did not do which I am going to do when I remodel mine is run conduit for all of your wiring. It makes it so much easier to work on, maintain, replace, and repair in the future if all the wiring is run through conduit. You can get pretty light duty PVC conduit to use for all your wiring and you can hide it all inside the wall

    Hi Danny: Like your replacement of the staples with pocket screws; they will give 1,000 times the shear and holding strength of 20 gauge staples. Where you need to introduce attachment between your new frame and the polyester exterior shell you might consider what I use in repairs on my 50' wooden boat. I have to use epoxy as polyester resin will not bond to wood if there is more than 6% moisture in it. I use woven fiber glass tape. You could sand the shell adjacent to the framing; to remove the wax that forms on the surface when resin cures. Then cut 2-3" lengths of the woven fiber glass tape, coat the 3/4" surface of the framing with resin where you are attaching the tape secure with staples until it cures. Then lift up the tape flap, coat the sanded area with resin where the tape will contact the shell. Now saturate the tape with resin. When cured you will have a strong point of attachment between your new framing and the shell. Simpler but not as strong; use a bead PL Premium between the shell and your new framing. In time though the bond between the PL premium and the shell will fail. It gets brittle with age and there is no chemical bond between the fiberglass resin and the adhesive. Bert

    Wow. That's some shoddy work and for the price they charge. I can hear the frustration in your voice. You are like my husband. If you can't do it right don't bother. If it takes you 10 min or 2 hrs do it correct. By the time you get done you can sell this thing for a good price New paint job on the out side in updated colors better than factory. Have fun with it. Hope this finds you both felling better. Love to you both. Cheryl from TN

    I am wanting to install a new window (12 X 42 inches) in my 2019 Class C rear wall. The window will be attached to only the interior and exterior wall paneling (not framing) it is 1-1/2 inches thick with the rigid foam in between. I believe the in and out (window) framing will be sufficient. Since the foam is glued to the inside and out, I really did not want to disturb it and cause a possible delamination. What are your thoughts??

This is a GOOD project for you Danny, and it is going to be GREAT when you are finished! rv is traveling down a dirt road 4.5 earthquake your rv must flex to keep from breaking so make sure to tighten it up but not make it to tight or it will just shake it into pieces and yes those cabinets are part of the wall structures also its an rv not a house

  • @nol1379
    @nol1379 7 лет назад

    Not only does it look better but its so much stronger. I don't see how RVs holds together driving down a road with no better than they are built. I fear trailer homes are built the same way.

    • @xanatunes1
      @xanatunes1 7 лет назад +1

      Mobile homes are built with 6" outside walls and stiff building codes, much like a house, if not the same. Hey, notice those staples holding the wood together? Well, that's to ensure that the structure will be 'flexible' as it's going down the road! Lol You know, so it won't break? ;)

    • @pms1953
      @pms1953 7 лет назад

      Glenokla that's what I was thinking also. It has to flex some while driving down the road

    • @pms1953
      @pms1953 7 лет назад

      When you put the sub floor down make sure you pull it away from the outside walls just a little bit so if it leaks the water will run down and out instead of soaking in the sub flooring wood

  • @southernladywithmanyhats7428
    @southernladywithmanyhats7428 7 лет назад

    LOL I had to chuckle when you said that's just not me. A friend of ours wears suspenders and his belt loop broke since only one is used in the back. He brought the pants to me to sew the belt loop back on at the bottom. I was like um this needs an upholstery machine because these pants are like the Carhart brand and MEGA thick and then you have all the thickness from the belt loop to. So he tells me, oh you don't have to fold the raw edge of the belt loop down and I'm like oh dear THAT goes against my grain to have a raw edge shining! :P BUT no way for me to fix it unless I did it that way! When I got it fixed though it wasn't THAT noticeable because I sewed it in a box shape and then an X inside that since there is a whole lot of stress on that one belt loop. But I can see where you are coming from.....lol I'd hate to see the guts of our camper, I am sure it's the same way as yours. Any trailer they just throw together. Seems no one takes pride in their work anymore. :(

  • @xanatunes1
    @xanatunes1 7 лет назад

    It may be a bit heavier with the extra bracing, etc., but your awesome building skills and ethics to do it right will ensure that it most likely won't fall apart with normal use or even heavy use. The manufacturer sure did want to make sure that RV would not only bend, but bend and definitely fall apart, lol. Wow, I hope my Gulfstream TT isn't build like that. It may be that some manufacturer's build better than others.

  • @bjlove259
    @bjlove259 6 лет назад

    The same happen to me during my rv tear down. I couldn't believe the amount of staples, they used to put this thing together. I have a 25ft jayco eagle. And I'm not pulling it across the country held together with staples. The only screws found in the camper, was those that held the structure walls in place. So completely rebuild the back, left side, and front wall with screws, the insulation was crap. For one any type of melt produces condensation, and to place pink panther insulation without a backing, is like wait, what the fuck are you doing!!!! The insulation absorb the water that's inside on the inner aluminum walls. Which creates a problem down the road, as in wood roit. So what I've done was, went and picked up behr water proof wood decking, applied that on inside and out to protected the wood framing. Even on my roof and flooring, studs and plywood. Most wouldn't believe me when I say this but 50% of your wood roit doesn't come from a leaking roof. But is due to poor insulation selection and by not protecting the wood framing. And I can't believe people go out and spend thousands on these things. Wow what a waste of hard earn energy.

    Any advice on insulating the front cab area. Under the captains seats and the floor boards l, all the carpet and carpet pad has to come out of my 77 clipper and I want it insulated for heat/cold and sound. The doors also need to be sealed ... Recommendations? Will spray foam work? And what about overhead? New to this and I'm all ears! Thank you

    • @DeepSouthHomestead

      They sell the aluminum faced insulation for automobiles on Amazon. I would use that to control sound and temperatures.

  • @kennethsouthard6042
    @kennethsouthard6042 7 лет назад

    While the workmanship was shoddy, I think the American Clipper was actually one of the better RVs for it's day, given that from the outside it is pretty well intact attests to that. I am guessing it had a lot to do with the fiberglass shell that pretty much kept the water out.

    @essemsween818 7 лет назад

    Not to rain on your parade, but apart from the shoddy, makeshift 70's workmanship (it's a flippin miracle it lasted 40 odd yrs) is the wood & pipe used a weight issue? and will your sturdier frame, insulation (that wasn't available to them) & schedule 40 pipe going to increase the weight the engine has to carry? Will you be running silicon or similar between the window & your wood so the water coming through the fibreglass doesn't rot your wood?
