I always liked the raw edge and simplicity of Andy'Currans songs. They blend real good with their 'normal' AOR approach and sound. And that sound -productionwise- is GREAT I think that if they would have sticked to the sound of their first two albums, they would have made it BIG. ( just like Y&T) To feel the feeling again is one of the greatest ballads imo.
@ebonyepi It is really an outside solo...and beautifully phrased I may add. If melodic pentatonic solos are what you are used to, this solo may sound quite unusual. Holdsworth, Zappa, and many others were masters at this type of solo. Check out a tune by Joe Satriani called "Not Of This Earth" and you will notice the same type of "outside" vibe to it. These are the type of solos that tend to grow on you over time.
I believe most of the solo is based on a jazz song called "Donna Lee." Check out the youtube video of Joe Pass and NHOP doing it....if you are into jazz it's pretty incredible.
You're a legend in your own mind Arthur. The Wikepedia article needs to be corrected if that's what it states. The solo is nowhere near note for note. Your sadly mistaken. The joke is back on you, as you are likely tone deaf. Sad, so very sad.
@ebonyepi one of the greatest solos ever . totally appropriate, ironic, statirical. and yet still rocks your face off. By the way its a direct lift af a Charlie Parker horn line. very difficult to play for most "rock guys", and yet when it resolves, it makes it's point. Shelski was very underrated.
LMAO!!! More comedy please! Although the solo borrows from the style, the solo is NOT from Donna Lee! Elixir's assessment was accurate. It appears you're tone deaf! Too funny!
The solo doesn’t fit the song, if they where trying to achieve something ,out of key and unorthodox they did it...Kim Mitchell let this be the final product, surprising he allowed this...
01/18/2021 and I'm still listening to "Monkey Bars". My God I was 19 when it came out and I still love it.
If you like "Monkey Bars" you might also like "Waterline" by Max Webster , these 2 tunes are very similar . Rock on !
Thanks for posting this! I cant get enough of this song.....
Awesome band from canada
man what amazing memories .. cheers !!!!
i heard this song on the radio today for the first time, I was like "it's Donna Lee!!"

Stick to commenting on Maroon 5 Simon......yet another troll.
Lol, solo?! This is the melody from the old jazz standard "Donna Lee". He just borrowed it from Miles Davis and Charlie Parker.
i hear charlie parker was pretty good too check out "donna lee"

It was intentional. Rumour has it, it’s Kim playing it. Certainly sounds like him. Brilliant.
Love the solo myself-kinda comes from left field but I think it works. A crazy solo from a band named for a lunatic asylum seems rather apropos.
