I requested this once on WDVE and they played it. Summer of 83/84?. This song and Unchained (van Halen) were two of my favorites back then. They played both. I also remember seeing ACDC, The Frim, Honeydrippers, Van Halen, and of course MUD MUD MUD -Power Power Power Don't miss the Fun at the One. Sabado. Jimmy and Steve in the morning. Andre the Giant and Superfly Snoka. Midget Wresting. Bradshaw, ...I have to stop now... Clinton was president last time I was there. Please just tell me that it has all changed and it sucks now, don't come back. No midnight Parmanti Bros Steak and Egg sanch for you..
This song and Still of the Night by Whitesnake were the Hammerjacks anthems. That place would go nuts when these two songs came on. I miss those great old days.
Hammer fuckin Jacks, 1101 S. Howard st In Baltimore. When this song came on it was the cue for the beautiful barmaids and those luscious babes to dance on the bar tops!
The guitar solo plays homage to Charlie Parker on the alto-saxophone from a song called Donna Lee. These guys and this song influenced me so, to the point I had a tattoo which said Monkey Bars which left everyone scratching their heads and asking why, what, who, etc.. They opened up for Judas Priest November 21, 1982, Long Beach Arena
I can still see in my memories the girls getting on top of the bars and shaking their ass's to this song ,, those were the days or shall I say the nights !!
When I was 17 a bunch of us went to the cool kids house that had no parental control and a kick ass stereo! Lol!!! I grew up just fine...today's kids need to go down our paths! Lol!!! :)
I saw Coney Hatch back in the mid 80’s. They opened for someone at Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kansas. This is the only song I remember them playing and I’ve been wanting to hear it ever since then. Cool band. As far as I know, they never came back to Kansas City.
I was driving up Mt Shasta last month listening to Sirius radio and this song came on. I believe that I had never heard it before. I have replayed it here 20 times since then.
Thanks Eddie Trunk for reminding me about Coney Hatch and this song in particular he has mentioned a few times on his Radio Show. They garnered some airplay in Canada at the time but unfortunately never took off they way the should have. Easily up there with fellow Canadian Rockers Trooper, Harlequin, Streetheart, Loverboy, April Wine, Headpins, Queen City Kids, Max Webster etc... I miss those days! Feel Free to name some more.....
The guitar solo is just insane ! I remember hearing this on the Tommy Vance Rock Show, Friday nights and was blown away. Recorded it off the radio onto tape cassette and played it endlessly. I mean that solo is either just a great big mistake (literally like the guy had lost the backing through the cans and did his own thing) or it is just so damn cool to go against the grain like that. The solo in itself stands out very good either way. EEE !! EEE !!
I just learned from the comments above that it is actually a Miles Davis jazz standard written for Charlie Parker called "Donna Lee". It's amazing to learn how those fast, smooth jazz runs went from saxophone to fusion/jazz guitar (especially Holdsworth and, to a lesser extent diMeola and McLaughlin -- who actually used their pick alot so didn't have the legato style of Holdsworth) and then to rock and metal. Eddie Van Halen loved Holdsworth, and I love Chris Poland from Megadeth who also solos like this and puts in awesome insane Jan Hammer-type super-controlled bends.
@@skaldlouiscyphre2453 It is like I said. They played for 50 minutes and then took a 20 minute intermission and that is when they brought out the rolls and ham to put on it. It was at the Desert Inn ballroom in Guelph.
Remember a friend of mine covering this tune in the 80s but with bit more tempo. Dude would hang by his legs from the lighting rafters. Sadly the 80s take on rock is gone.
This was always a good ass kickin partyin song in the 80's! You oughta hear this song on a real loud car stereo system! Ha!Ha! You'll crack the fuckin windows! Oh those where the days!
Thought these guys were going to open for AC/DC in Pittsburgh in 83' (Flick of the Switch tour) and turns out Fastway was put on the bill instead. Was still an awesome show!!! This got heavy airplay on WDVE around that time.
I used to take a chance and buy albums of bands I had never heard if the members looked like rockers and the song titles were cool. This album, the Axe debut and the Iron Maiden debut were among those I discovered that way
Can't stop myself from coming back to listen to this song every couple of months. I'll hand it to Canadians, some of them really know how to rock. Some of them really don't, though.
I'm a westerner, not at all a Yank, but I do appreciate the sentiment. We do have some very bad music. I do feel that Canadians make some amazing music. Humans as a whole, though, really need to be ashamed of some of our music.
This song comes from a time when drinking and driving was a $50 fine and alittle weed could land ya in jail.,,,lol Gee how times have changed,,,,what happened to the ol Cornet...?,,lol
@Peter C thanks for the info. I've always liked Kim Mitchell I saw him as Max Webster at Mohawk College in Hamilton in the seventies great concert I've never met him but I've always been told by others who have that is a good down to earth guy and a good musician to
@Peter C David Gilmour Clapton Robert Fripp Joe Bonamassa Randy Rhoads Duane Allman among others but my favourite is David Gilmour Pink Floyd I've never met any of these
@Peter C oh Peter 2 of the greatest players I think are Roy Clark and Glen Campbell I didn't know Glen Campbell started out as a bass player for the Beach Boys in the sixties but Roy Clark is phenomenal guitar player he can play anything with strings. You should check out a video called yesterday when I was young in 2006 by Roy Clark. Oh and a girl player named Bonnie Raitt is she a great player
This is a staple on the noon lunch hour on WDVE in Pittsburgh, old dudes like me still kickin' it like it was 1983...timeless.
David P we have a winner and the secret to life
