  • Alex Murdaugh's brother, John Marvin Murdaugh, described cleaning up the gruesome crime scene at the Murdaugh's family home a day after the murders. "I felt like I owed him and I started cleaning," he said. "I couldn’t stop. I just had to do it for Paul.”

I’ve never heard of allowing a family member to clean up a crime scene 10-14 hours after murders have occurred. On scene forensics were not even completed. It is crystal clear, the Murdaugh’s had law enforcement in their back pockets. Even loaning the Sheriff money for years. Any law enforcement, who had ties to the Murdaugh’s should have been recused from any type of investigation or handling a crime scene.
Additionally, I hope the prosecutors office will do a full investigation into all law enforcement involved.

Yet the Murdaugh family was allowed to move the boat in that case, AND allowed to trample all over the Paul and Maggie crime scene. Also telling that AM was all over that hospital trying to do damage control after the boat crash. Yet his son and wife are murdered, and he doesn't seem concerned about finding the perpetrators. Doesn't seem worried that they could still be out there wanting to do harm to his family. Funny that.

I honestly believe this man's emotions. I don't know anything about his relationship with his nephew, but I can tell you that I totally understand how he felt the need to do what he did. I would feel exactly the same way if it had been my nephew. I have had similar experiences. When you are in shock and grieving, people do things that seem strange to the rest of us. Don't judge if you have never had this experience. I pray most of you have not, and I pray you never have to experience it. No matter how twisted this family is, Paul and Maggie did not deserve to suffer and die in this manner. And the brother of Alex will NEVER forget what he saw. It will haunt him for the rest of his life. Alex ruined so many lives for years. Now he can rot in prison remembering all that he has done. I hope he has a vivid memory, and sees these images forever. May Maggie and Paul rest in peace. Horrible!!

I’m so glad the jury was able to see through Alex’s lies and get justice for Maggie and Paul. My heart was sad for Alex’s brother, John Marvin, when he testified. I feel his testimony was from his heart, and true. I just don’t understand why he had to clean the crime scene. I would never imagine that a family member would be left to clean up any of the crime scene. Is that how it normally works? I just can’t imagine how horrific this would be for a family member. Also, I have to say I’m still hoping for justice for Mallory Beach.

No I don’t think it’s normal but I feel like he was distraught and just did not know what else to do. I feel he wasn’t a lawyer he was an Uncle who wanted to respect the portion of his nephews remains and the only way was to pick them up. I don’t know if it was malicious. If they had the nerve and the guts to see their Brother get disbarred for the stolen money then I don’t think they would cover up the murder of their own family members. I could be way off but he seems like a sensitive person and sometimes when we are shocked, saddened, confused and feeling helpless you do the unthinkable but your just trying to give dignity to what was left of your loved one. I cannot judge this man unless you were in the same situation at that moment. I see this as an act of kindness and love for a nephew not as helping to conspire or help aid his brother for something he may have done. Maybe he left the house because he couldn’t stand to be near his brother. I know if I had any feeling at all that my sibling or in-law harmed my nieces or nephews I wouldn’t be able to take it with people coming over and saying how sorry they were to the one who may have done it. I would want to get away and then I might think by doing this would show my love and adoration for my loved one. I just don’t know. The more I see of the lives ruined and the tragedy caused it’s heartbreaking for everyone including the victims. That is just sad beyond words.

Dr. Kinsey addressed the clean up issue today in his testimony. I said somewhere down thread that I thought it was bizarre that a family member cleaned up the crime scene. Some didn't agree and said they would do the same thing given the same situation. Some said family members have to pay for a professional service to clean it up. Dr. Kinsey said he believed there is money for this in every jurisdiction, so John didn't have to do this. I still think it's beyond weird.
