    Hey all! I made a goof in this video. I suggested that you would HAVE to have HLG to have gotten the Super Bowl in HDR this year. That's technically not true. Some services delivered it in HDR10. Sorry for the inaccuracy!

    • @ye-rochawkins5432
      @ye-rochawkins5432 4 года назад +4

      I appreciate this, bc I was shaking my head saying "no" to myself when you said this. Xfinity definitely had the Superbowl in HDR10 and I watched it on my TCL r625. I honestly think you've got another poor TCL. I know it's always the panel lottery out there, but I'd think TCL would want to make sure you got your hands on a perfect unit. Anyways, mine has great screen uniformity. No dark vingetting in the corners. Amazing black screen uniformity as well. Better than what I see in your unit from the footage. I do notice the black crush as you stated in Dolby Vision or HDR content. I think they need an update to the r625's local dimming algorithm. Might make things worse tho, and they've moved on from this TV, I'm sure. Local dimming works amazing IMO, but just goes a little too aggressive in certain scenes. Ever since I put bias lighting on the TCL, it changed the TV completely. Much, much better dark room experience, mainly due to the added perceived contrast. Still prefer to live with the black crush thought, as I use High "Local Contrast", DV or HDR mode in "Dark", and "TV Brightness" set to "Brighter". Can't really go wrong with whichever one you choose. Personally, I've had bad luck with Vizio's. A ton of bad LED's zones. Sure, it's not hard to fix, but that's why I steer clear. Hopefully that's not an issue anymore. Other reviews I've seen, put the Vizio's Local Dimming behind the TCL'S. At least as far as blooming goes. My TCL has the black bars jet black. Honestly, idk how it keeps them that dark. I rarely notice blooming. Only on certain subtitles do I actually notice.

      @@Polaflamme I'd say it depends what you want. The only thing really new is micro LED in the near future. Mini is just starting to be a thing. So it's really in what technology you want, and what suits you. And...how much you want to pay...where the TV is going...dark room only, everyday use..., etc. OLED is still probably the best tech right now. Just lacking that peak brightness, but has better PQ and viewing angles. For me personally, I steered clear of OLED due to burn in issues. (They've gotten much better) Honestly, you can't go wrong with the LG OLED. You just gotta ask yourself, is all those feature worth the extra money, and will you use it? Do you have the hardware to use the features like VRR, G-sync, etc. Will you be buying the next gen of console's...things like that.
      I'm sure you weren't asking me, but that's my two cents.

      @@Polaflamme Then I'd say stick with your choice. At least you will be able to take advantage of HDMI 2.1 features. I'm more of a casual gamer, and 60hz works fine for me....right now. The differences are very hard to tell. Some people can't tell the difference at all. It really boils down to what fps target these game developers choose to try and hit. I assume some games won't be able to even hit 120fps, but I honestly have no idea. I'm a huge movie buff as well. I think it's a great time to buy a TV. There's a ton of great choices. The only thing you'd be holding out for is micro LED to my knowledge, and that's yet to be proven better than OLED imo. There still might be something behind closed doors that's better than them all. I know they have this cool 3D looking Glass technology, but it's far from being able to display scenes tho.

      I have had the 65" R625 since early Oct and it's just an all out great TV.
      I got some HDR content that will make jaws drop.
      It never fails to get complements.
      Netflix finally has great HDR/DV and I have bought many Dolby Vision movies on Vudu. I just got tired of boxes and keeping up with physical disc... With the R625 I have gone 100% streaming, absolutely no cords for me. And it is on almost 24/7. Barely never turn it off. No streaming device, DVD, or cable boxes. Just the internal Roku for everything. And it's just truly great

    Hello, Caleb. Great review as always. And very fair-handed approach to these two televisions. In November of last year I purchased the prior year's TCL 6 series for our master bedroom. It was certainly not a bad television. But, it didn't meet my expectations. Our main set is a 65 inch LG B7 OLED which probably skewed my expectations. However, I ended returning the R613 and buying the 65 inch Vizio M8. In my estimation the Vizio provides an overall superior viewing experience which I'm more pleased with. I use a ROKU stick just as you suggested in this video. I also have a Vizio M60-C3 from 2014 that I also use with a ROKU streaming stick. The new Vizio interface is definitely improved. However, it's still vastly inferior to the ROKU. If I had to do it over though, I would spend three hundred dollars more and buy a Sony 900F or an LG 9000 series Nanocell even if I had to purchase either of them in a 55 inch size. Thanks again for another great review. Your the cream of the crop as a reviewer!

    I own the Vizio 65" M8 and do not regret it. It's an outstanding TV for the price. The color is super impressive as is the black levels and the local dimming performance. Plus, it supports all major HDR formats, HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, and HLG. I have DirecTV with the 4K channels and the HLG is surprisingly good.
    For reference, I also own a Samsung SUHD TV and the blacks and color are far superior on this Vizio.

      Not terrible but not great. I replaced a plasma with this TV which had perfect viewing angles. Our seating is fairly wide, but I personally stick with being directly in front of the TV. Move 3-4 feet over and the color washes out some.

      @@ItsameMatt well damn that's a shame. That is one of THE main things holding me back from getting a new set. My Panny plasma is still rocking, and I can't justify the cost of an OLED or even a higher ranked QLED to replace it, only to get washed out blacks, from off-viewing angles. Plasma tech got me spoiled over the years!

    • @ItsameMatt
      @ItsameMatt 4 года назад +1

      I held onto my Panasonic plasma, mainly because I love the TV and I want to save it for the 3D. It's in storage for now until I have somewhere to put it.
      I will say though that this Vizio has absurdly deep black levels for this price. I have a Samsung SUHD TV that has an excellent picture but is limited to only HDR10. This Vizio easily beats out the Samsung for blacks and color. The two things that don't compare are the peak brightness and motion. The Samsung is more capable. My Samsung probably has worse off angle viewing but it's in a much smaller room with only a centered couch for seating.

This line is about a cm thick, and it is made up of a previous frozen frame. By this, I mean that the line is like a little strip of picture if you were to pause the video. It changes every so often. Hey, Caleb, I have a question. The only brand I've owned with local dimming zones, is Vizio. Yes, the local dimming zones do help with the picture... But, there's a sort of "Side Effect"... You can see the local dimming zones causing light and shadow spots moving around on screen. It looks like image retention lines moving around the screen, with a constant morphing dirty screen effect. I've noticed this on all Vizio sets, using local dimming, up to the 2018 models. I haven't seen the 2019 or 2020 models. Is this something that has been improved, or is it just an unfortunate effect of local dimming? Because it really takes the ability of trying to enjoy the picture.

    I'm thinking on preparing for PS5. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the TCL delivers 60Hz at 4k and 120Hz at FullHD, while Vizio reaches 60Hz either way. Is that correct?
    Either way, for PS5 I would be looking for 120Hz at 4k, right?

    There are a lot of things to compare. Both TVs are great in their own ways. But Now assuming all are nearly the same greatness, I would rank them in this order: Vizio Pqx > Hicense h9f > TCL 6 625 > TCL 6 615 > Vizio M overall for highest image quality, features, and price. So no single TV is the best of all worlds but that's how I would rank the budget TVs. I have heard the UPSCALING of the TCL 6 625 is better than Vizio M, and overall Nits brightness is nearly double on the TCL 6, so those are strengths for the TCL 6. When Caleb is looking at image quality he is disappointed with TCL 6 625 because the local dimming High software algorithm is crushing the blacks more than he wishes in dark scenes---I too find that disappointing, but try turn it down to Medium on those scenes or adjust Gamma to 2.0 or try other settings. If it wasn't for that effect then I bet TCL 6 would have been better for him. But even Rttings rates Vizio M very slightly better than TCL 6s 8.2 vs 8.1/8.0 & the scores for "movies and HDR movies" rating is better on Vizio M by 0.1. So I think Vizio M really could be a very very slightly better image based on professionals for watching movies in the dark - "by a hair" (but most of us shouldn't really care 98% of the time --and just be happy with both TV sets!----we should only care if these budget sets have DSE or breaks down and become glitchy...none of us want our hard earned money to be wasted on a broken tv within a couple of years. So be happy if you have a "reliable" tv.).

Sometime, very fast motion is an issue & scenes that are panning to the left or right.. there is some kind of slow response studder on tcl6 (not sure if Vizio m8 is better). But most times I am not bothered by this effect. The image quality is outstanding especially on static scenery. I think it may sometimes be caused by a slow internet streaming connection. But a faster response time tv like Sony and surprisingly Hicense h9f may do better for the same scenes.

But the professionals seem to like grazing hairs and nitpicking tvs to death to see any small differences--and they all seem to like the Vizio M more than TCL 6 for Movies in the dark and HDR by 0.1 rating. ...check rttings 8.2 vs 8.1. I also own the TCL 625 (and have owned the 615) and thought they were both great (and good enough for me since I got a reasonable price 65" $590). But I guess this is the first video that shows more love for Vizio M. (just this week a deal came for Vizio M @ $650 with dell $200 so that makes it a better deal on paper). I'm happy with the TCL6 as long as I don't notice any DSE (which mine is hardly visible at all) and it doesn't break down. --My only other minor issue with panel lottery on this tv is I have a couple stuck grey Pixels (one tiny one in the middle and another one on the very bottom left side..But fortunately I can only see them 4 feet away or less. & I mostly sit 6 to 9 feet away where I cannot see them.)

    • @tonedone490

      @@lamarsmith5310 Sometimes brightness is important in a room with lots of light, and for the greater pop in HDR highlights like bright headlights of a car, , or sparks & explosions in sci-fi films. The TCL 6 2018 non-quantum has 1100 nits so has this advantage much more than Vizio M quantum dot and slightly more than TCL 6 2019 quantum dot. hicense h9f also belongs with this group. All the higher priced TVs $1300+ have nits brightness well past 1000 nits around 1400nits to 2000nits from eg. Vizio pqx, TCL 8, Sony x950g, Samsung q90r. But yes , brightness is not as important in a dark room , which is why Vizio M8 still rates very good (with the help of its black uniformity, contrast, color space & good local dimming.) it's a win for everyone looking at all these budget tvs.

    Is these TVs the latest just release 2020 tcl 6 series and Visio m series???? Or is it last year TVs?

      They are both 2019 TV's. But they have both only been on the market since summer of 2019, so only 9months new.

      New 2020 will probably be out in the summer for around $1000 and probably won't t drop to $800 or less until Sept 2020, assuming Corona virus doesn't drastically affect the world trade and life by that time.

      I could be wrong about price drops...We may not see $750 to $900 until later in the fall or Black Friday...If we r lucky then maybe $600ish.

    It's about as good as my h8 f actually it's just under my H9F. Is it 60 hrtz or 120 hrtZ? TCL has also historically had issues with dark spots in their screens have they fixed this quality control issue.

    Looking to replace a Vizio 2013 or 14 model non hdr , I am assuming anything from this or last will be a dramatic improvement , I would like to get a 75” , but don’t want to spend 1000$ , I assume even a large tv for for not a lot money would still be a drastic improvement. Thanks for your time and keep up the videos.

      Yeah the 65" deals are much lower in price between $600 and $800. The 75" are always around $1000. The lowest deal I've ever seen was a Sams store display model of a Vizio 75"pqx with more discounts from a sale in Jan or Feb for $940.
