- PRR and N&W action around Coshocton taken from the mid 60s on (I don't think they were all taken at the same time). Not all locations are known.
0:00 - Morgan Run tower (outside Coshocton)
3:47 - Gnaddenhutten?
4:20 - not sure, but possibly Coshocton
5:55 - not sure
7:00 - Dresden
8:55 - Coshocton
9:32 - Harmon?
14:50 - Baltic
18:04 - Coshocton
21:01 - Coshocton
3:47 I believe is the bridge at 40.20764° N, 81.87856° W over the Muskingum river west of Coshocton. You can see in the video the bridge in the video is three truss lengths whereas the Gnaddenhutten one is only one truss length, and what is currently Township Road 129 curving off to the left.
I love seeing what railroads use to be especially railroads in my area. I was involved in a minor derailment at Pearl, OH, oh about twenty some years ago. I was chasing the Ohio Central south, when a loaded cement cars lead axle jumped the track. Rip up some 8 miles of ties. By the times it had stopped the wheel was glowing a deep red.
Like seeing the old TOFCs! Thanks for sharing!
The PRR claimed it was The Standard Railroad of the World, but the weird train consists and diesel lashups in these film clips show a different story. Thank you so much for sharing this archival material. Cheers from Wisconsin!
One of my favorite things in the world is seeing early high hood Geeps pulling full-length freights at track speed. I'm so used to them just being used for switching or low-speed excursions.
Brings back memories of '60s railroading! I did a lot of train watching back then along the PRR NEC in Baltimore when in my teens. Miss seeing the GG1, E44, Alco, E8, and Baldwin engines pulling passenger and freight trains along the mainline, Northern Central, and local branches.
ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC! THANK YOU for posting! -From a native of SE Ohio.
