I'll always come back to these "best teams" videos when I want to replay a game since they are really well balanced and fun. Johot is one of my favorite regions, and starting typhlosion, every run has never felt oh so satisfying, and now being a best team choice 👌. Late game I usually ran flare blitz, focus blast, shadow claw and lava plume as the move set. Man was a 1v3000 machine
I uses Cyndaquil as starter, then Heracross, Ampharos, and Dragonite for the rest of the game. The rest are HM fillers such as Lapras and Raikou, i only use Legendaries as HM fillers.
@@sepg5084 I'd love to use a Dragonite one of these days but you get it SOO late in the game. I'm not about to waste my time training up a level 15 when I'm about to fight the elite four. Do you use the day care exploit? I want to try it but I'm worried about what moves my Pokemon would end up with. And the fact that they couldn't evolve.
Just now I just won the league, thanks for the movesets, they helped me a lot! This is my current team: -Typhlosion *Sunny Day *Focus Miss *Solar Beam *Lava Plume -Crobat *Poison Fang *Confuse Ray *Fly (why not) *Pluck -Steelix *Earthquake *Iron Tail *Crunch *Curse -Heracross *Demolition *Aerial Ace *Night Slash *Rock Smash (Soon it will be megahorn) -Ampharos *Discharge *Signal Beam *Thunder Wave *Focus Miss -Kingdra *Surf *Dragon Pulse *Draco Meteor *Focus Energy (He has sniper abilitie so that's fine) Now I'm going for Kanto! Good video!
Something that needs to be said about Typhlosion in HGSS is the fact that as a Quilava, it can get Fire Blast before the third gym (!!!), by purchasing the TM at the Goldenrod Department Store. A 120BP+STAB early-game nuke (that also has fairly good accuracy at 85%) like that cannot be underestimated in any HGSS playthrough. Given Fire Blast's low PP, you will still need Ember or Flame Wheel on your moveset as your general-use STAB attack until you get Lava Plume, but Fire Blast can be used when you really need that KO.
Game corner is easy af to exploit too, since there's no repercussions for actually trying to do game corner. It's especially easy to abuse on emulators with save states, but it's possible to get unlimited amount of coins on an actual machine as well.
@@Kepin151 You can say that about anything. The thing is tho, in the older games, cheating the system wasn't easy because it was pure gambling and buying money manually was expensive, so it was really time consuming doing it that way. HG/SS has no option for purchasing coins, but doing the casino has absolutely zero repercussions, so you can do it endlessly and really rack up that cash without having anything to lose. HG/SS casinos are a joke.
this is prob super helpful for new players but i do have one note: if you use discharge on ampy (or anyone) replace thunder wave with power gem/coverage move. the reason being that discharge has a high paralyze rate, meaning you wont need to use thunder wave as much especially for casual play. on the plus side if you enjoy thunder wave, upgrade to thunderbolt over discharge for the higher base damage. edit: also for espeon you could try swift instead of psybeam. while it wont get STAB it does scale off special as well as never miss damage for those fights where annoying evasion stacking happens. id also suggest rain dance on lapras over perish song for boosted surf and thunder accuracy, specifically since you arent using sunny day on typlosion.
@@martinsolia Most people won't even try to use a Fighting type move on a Flying type Pokémon since they can easily use an Electric, Ice or Rock type move..
@@IAmTheRealKen Lol, It isn't the games that are remastered, it's this team. Mystic made another video like this, but the team was kinda bad, so he remade it, that's why it's "HG/SS Remastered".
As for the water type I feel like Quagsire is pretty underrated. The guy can take some hits and dish them out just as well. Not to mention he renders all electric attacks null and void. It along with ampharos really helped carry my team in heartgold.
For people who don't have time : Typholsion ( starter ) Lava plume Focus blast Solar beam Earthquake Ampharos (mareep in patch of grass under violet city ) Discharge Thunder wave Signal beam Focus blast Fearow ( found as spearow near azalea town and grass patches before union cave . Although I recommend picking up Kenya the fearow from the guy in goldenrod .) Fly Aerial ace Return U-Turn Heracross ( found by headbutting trees in ilex forest , rt. 33 , 42 , etc. You can teach your Pokemon headbutt by the help of the guy in ilex forest , or someone like seel or drowzee can learn headbutt by levelup . ) Brick break Megahorn Shadow claw / night slash Rock tomb Espeon ( evolves from eevee given by bill ) Psybeam Shadow ball Reflect Psychic Lapras ( found at the southernmost part of union cave on Fridays ) Surf Perish song Ice beam Thunder I still recommend watching the whole video of you can because he gives on more info about why these Pokemon make a good team and which trainers and gym leaders they are strong against . Hope this helped .
@# AYUSH BANIK 1: that wasn’t my point, it was that feraligatr wasn’t “drained with attacks that use its lower attacking stat” 2: feraligatr gets swords dance & can set up easily on Clair and Lance’s Gyarados
I think he was talking in the sense of ice type attacks. What I mean is since Lapras is a water/ice type and Feraligatr is only a water type, Lapras gets that stab element to ice attacks. Also the more powerful ice moves that are used most commonly, like ice beam and blizzard, are special type attakcs, and Lapras has a higher SpA than Feraligatr
I started a HeartGold playthrough, and I admittedly used some TMs from a Platinum Game that I wasn't enjoying (I'm being resourceful!). My team consists of Typhlosion, Ambipom, Scizor, Umbreon, Kingdra, and a newly added Gligar. I got the Metal Coat and the Dragon-Scale from a wild Magnemite and Horsea, Compound Eyes is utterly broken, and I love it.
I started a soul silver save a few days ago and my team consists of Feraligatr Ampharos Ninetails Heracross Crobat Dragonite Yes I spent 20 minutes playing the arcade to get dratini.
@@korv2330 Yeah but that's a level 15 Dratini at a point where you already have 40+- level pokémon. Also Extremespeed is not that useful in these games in regards to regular playthrough.
I seriously think that a Slowbro or the red Gyarados will be a better option. Lapras only has a high HP stat , its Sp.Atk is just 85 while slowbro's is a solid 100 which means a powerful Psychic attack even though it has no Ice STAB. Gyarados makes his own case though with his Ice Fang and massive 125 attack.
It's very hard to obtain dragonite before Elite four because of soooo much grinding. You can use it in post game by getting super rod and fishing in dragons Den to get lvl 40 Dragonair and can easily be evolved
@@parvathavardhinithirukonda4882 I had trouble with lance so I grinded all to lvl 55 and my dragonite swept the whole elite 4 and around 4 of Lance's pokemon lmao
Honestly, I watched his videos 3 straight starting from Kanto which is R & G game. Second is Sinnoh which is P, D, & Pt and lastly is this HG+SS. On that video he always mentioned the move return, which I really prefer a Hyperbeam. *Return* made me comeback 3x, maybe that's why he love it.
My team up in Pokémon league Metapod lvl 40 Weedle lvl40 Abra caught using masterball lvl 40 Kakuna lvl 40 Arceus using pokeball lvl 100 Magikarp lvl 50
As much as I love Heracross, I don't think that he's really that good pick in the 2nd Gen Pokemon games tbh. Sure, he's very strong, but he learns Megahorn at the level 55(!!!) which is almost near the end of the game (and I'm talking about the Kanto region here), making his bug type in fact pretty useless for the entire campaign. Another problem I have with Heracross is that while his fighting type comes in handy, and boosts his fighting type moves, it also leaves him more vulnerable to psychic attacks, so it's in fact a double edged sword. In my opinion, Pinsir is much better choice than Heracross, and it's in fact probably the best bug type to pick in the HG/SS games. First of all, you can catch him very early in the game, right before the 3rd gym in the Bug Catching Contest. Second of all, he will prove to be a valuable addition to your team, just right after catching him. Pinsir is a pure bug type, but he learns a lot of good fighting type moves early on such as Revenge at level 18, Brick Break at level 21 and Vital Throw at level 25, making Whitney's gym a cakewalk, and leaving her Miltank helpless (be aware of Rollout though). He also learns a powerful bug type move X-Scissor at level 30, which is not that late to be honest. Later on, he naturally learns Swords Dance at level 38, which makes him an extremely effective and terrifying physical sweeper. On top of that, add a very high attack and defense stat, great speed, two nice abilities in form of Hyper Cutter and Mold Breaker, and a great TM compatibility (Stone Edge and Earthquake can help him counter the Flying and Fire types respectively) and you will have one of the best Pokemon to pick to your team in the game. Seriously, I can't believe how underrated and overlooked this thing is. When you're looking for a good bug type to add to your team pick Pinsir. I can assure you that you won't be disappointed :) Another good and overlooked pick is Steelix. You can catch him just right after beating the 6th gym, in the Cliff Cave, on the road to Safari Zone, right behind the Cianwood City. His encounter rate is actually very low (2%), but you can easily solve that, by using repels, and putting a 23 level Pokemon in front of your party. Just prepare a lot of ultra balls because this thing is a pain to catch. Heavy balls will be an invaluable help, making the catch much easier. Steelix is a FANTASTIC physical wall thanks to his insane defense, which makes him a perfect tank and a great addition to your team, if you need one. His attack stat is also quite decent, so he can also hit the other things hard. Steelix is especially a fantastic counter against the dragons, thanks to his steel type. If you have some heart scales to spare, you can also teach Steelix all of the elemental fangs in one of the houses in the Blackthorn City. In other words, Steelix may be also a great choice for your team as well.
@@mattycraig2938 Yes, that's true. But the main problem with Heracross is that he learns a bug type move at the level 55, which is basically near the end of the Kanto story (unless you don't mind grinding a lot), making his bug-type useless for almost the entire game. Still a very powerful Pokemon though. Personally, I like Heracross more than Pinsir, but in my opinion Pinsir is a better choice for the main story.
Just out of context . U do realize that u don't have cut whirlpool flash(not that flash matters) so u logically would never be able (if u had this team after bugsy) to ever reach goldenrod in the first place
this is one of those cases in which having one type is actually a good thing, all you need to do is have a typhlosion w/ solar beam and then your good, but also get sunny day, just so that you attack the first, not second, turn.
For real my team was mostly Ho-oh, Lapras, Alakazam, Heracross, Steelix and Ampharos and I can't say how many times I was saved by Ampharos. Ampharos was unexpectedly the true hero my whole playthrough, what a lad.
Four of those I agree with. -Espeon isn’t my game. Yeah, it’s strong, but I already have three special attackers on be team, and I like to be balanced. I go with Tauros instead, because it has the same speed stat and possesses a wider movepool, such as Zen Headbutt, Earthquake, and Rock Climb (sorry, Phlose, but you’ll have to settle for Hyper Beam) - Fearow is kind of like Caterpie in Viridian Forest: it just can’t hack it. Crobat matches its Attack stats, and outclasses it in every single other stat. Anything Fearow can do, Crobat does it better, and it can actually stand its ground in competitive play.
@@wartermelon If we use an hm slave then i don't think we can talk about the beast possible team, but for the "5 best pokemon and the Furret (or whterver you will use as a slave)"

Yes! I've used Exeggutor in a few Crystal runs and it's not bad at all! Aside from having low speed, Exeggutor really gets the job done for a playthrough.
Problem is that Stones are pretty annoying to get. Slowbro is better since it combines Water and Psychic STAB into one, and still gets Ice Beam for coverage alongside other options such as Shadow Ball or Flamethrower
Hey Mystic, since Fearow is the best Flyer in Johto, do you think it’s a good idea to wait until Goldenrod City to be given Kenya the Spearow as opposed to catching a Spearow at the beginning? It joins the team at LV 20, plus it’s considered an outsider, so it will Level up faster.
Just out of curiosity, will you do HG/SS Best Teams for the other two starters? Yeah, the physical/special split does hurt Feraligatr some, but it still has great physical coverage moves. Besides, there are plenty of other options for Surfers. Edit: And now, over a year later, you have. Thanks! 😁

And it also gets flamethrower if you want to do the game corner
Game corner is easy af to exploit too, since there's no repercussions for actually trying to do game corner. It's especially easy to abuse on emulators with save states, but it's possible to get unlimited amount of coins on an actual machine as well.
@@smaragdchaos or u can just use max coin cheat if u want even easier way
Wait what!
Mystic: Lists off his picks for the best HGSS Team
Literally all of Erika's team like tenfold: *Chuckles; I'm in danger!*
this is prob super helpful for new players but i do have one note: if you use discharge on ampy (or anyone) replace thunder wave with power gem/coverage move. the reason being that discharge has a high paralyze rate, meaning you wont need to use thunder wave as much especially for casual play. on the plus side if you enjoy thunder wave, upgrade to thunderbolt over discharge for the higher base damage.
edit: also for espeon you could try swift instead of psybeam. while it wont get STAB it does scale off special as well as never miss damage for those fights where annoying evasion stacking happens. id also suggest rain dance on lapras over perish song for boosted surf and thunder accuracy, specifically since you arent using sunny day on typlosion.

1: that wasn’t my point, it was that feraligatr wasn’t “drained with attacks that use its lower attacking stat”
2: feraligatr gets swords dance & can set up easily on Clair and Lance’s Gyarados

Lapras only has a high HP stat , its Sp.Atk is just 85 while slowbro's is a solid 100 which means a powerful Psychic attack even though it has no Ice STAB. Gyarados makes his own case though with his Ice Fang and massive 125 attack.

lol yes
I can assure you that you won't be disappointed :)
Another good and overlooked pick is Steelix.
Heracross can be caught after the 2nd gym
@@mattycraig2938 Yes, that's true. But the main problem with Heracross is that he learns a bug type move at the level 55, which is basically near the end of the Kanto story (unless you don't mind grinding a lot), making his bug-type useless for almost the entire game. Still a very powerful Pokemon though. Personally, I like Heracross more than Pinsir, but in my opinion Pinsir is a better choice for the main story.

Abilities, natures, held items, tag team battles, fun substitutes, Stab move emphasis (briefly covered👍) HM holders and especially respectable shout outs: Red Gyarados, Lugia or Ho oh (why because you'll get either regardless and they're both flying types so off fearow), Dragonite(again, off fearow:)), Rhydon, hitmonchan (bred iron fists, impish nature, Drain punch, fire punch, thunder punch, ice punch) Umbreon, Ursaring (HMs).......... Late game: Garchomp, Salamence, !!TYRANITAR!! even Metagross (They're late game... But they're game.)
Solos or doubles I know my team stands the test, here's why:
Typhlosion, lv 50, kings rock
Focus punch (focus blast)
Flamethrower (lava plume for doubles)
Rollout (solar beam)
Earthquake (hits all) (dig for doubles (avoid damage, even own team like surf)
(Red) Gyarados, lv 54, NeverMeltIce
Waterfall
Dragon dance
Ice fang (Outrage)
Avalanche (Bounce)
Lugia, lv50, light clay
Punishment
Fly
Extrasensory
Safeguard
Rhydon, lv52, lightning rod, quick claw
Hammer arm
Rock slide (stone edge)
Rock polish (sandstorm -50% special damage received, effects hail in doubles...)
Earthquake
(Truly the backbone to my team and for great reason, to avoid all electric damage so far as she survives. Whether by swapping out or being present in doubles with lightning rod, very sleeped on pokemon (don't earthquake TM!! lol)
Ampheros, lv48, leftovers
Thunder wave
Signal beam (Reflect, if possible??)
Charge beam
Charge
Lapras, lv 47, shell armour, shell bell
Surf
Hail
Thunderbolt (shock wave)
Blizzard
Subs:
Ursaring for HMs, lv 33, guts
Strength
Cut. (All stab too so usable )
Rock smash
Dig (rock climb)
Hitmonchan as affirmentioned...
Snorlax lv50
Umbreon lv40
Beedrill lv30
Haunter lv47
It's difficult to type all details, such as the team progression from say where they were at capture to now, their exact move upgrades and the teams progression...
By four gym badges I had Onix, Beedrill (heracross though👍👍👍), quillava, haunter, Gyarados, flaafy (togetic for fly)
By gym 8 hadn't yet caught Rhyhorn or lugia...
Let me know what you thing, bro😁
Exeggutor may also be a good Psychic type option if Happiness grinding isn't something you want to do.
@@smaragdchaos Slowpoke doesn't evolve until level 37, and is very weak until it turns into Slowbro.
Btw when hunting for the spearow/fearow; *make sure u hunt during the daytime or morning, DO NOT TRY AT NIGHT TIME, past 8pm.* Wasted an hour man
Lapras is so good in hgss, it’s over leveled in my team now.
When he shows haracoss's moves, he said brick brick
Hey Mystic, since Fearow is the best Flyer in Johto, do you think it’s a good idea to wait until Goldenrod City to be given Kenya the Spearow as opposed to catching a Spearow at the beginning? It joins the team at LV 20, plus it’s considered an outsider, so it will Level up faster.
not really. it'll be a pain not to have flying moves untill Goldenrod. i'd say just catch one.
Aerial Ace
Accuracy: Infinite
I remember with typhlosion i earthquaked and used eruption most of my way through Red’s team. That’s how it felt anyways
Damn Lacey, this took a turn. Proud and grateful that you took a stand and used an opportunity to educate.
Not sure why he's so stuck on the acronym.
Thanks! 😁
My Soulsilver Team
-Typhlosion: Flamethrower, Iron Tail, Solar Beam/Thunder Punch, Earthquake
-Ampharos: Thunder Punch/Discharge/Thunderbolt, Focus Blast, Thunder Wave/ Power Gem, Signal Beam
-Crobat: Cross Poison, Fly, U-turn/X-Scissor, Bite/Steel Wing
-Heracross: Night Slash/Megahorn, Brick Break, Rock Tomb/Rock Slide, Shadow Claw
-Umbreon: Dark Pulse, Payback/Psychic, Assurance, Confuse Ray
-Quagsire: Surf, Earthquake, Ice Beam, Waterfall
Totodile will always be my favorite for my nostalgia and bias alone, but I do have to respect Cyndaquil. I even have to respect Chikorita quite a bit.
Chikorita is useless
@@uknown4710 It’s not necessarily Chikorita that’s bad; it’s more so the fact that Grass is a terrible type in Johto. I’ve always thought that the Grass starter would be the worst in Johto no matter how good the Pokémon itself was. I could be wrong, though.
You're forgetting the MANDATORY SHINY level THIRTY Gyarados at the lake of rage who's physical attack shreds everything and when It gets Aqua tail you will turn what's left of your opponents into molecular bits.
Why bother with Aqua Tail? You're better off using Waterfall. It's slightly weaker but it has 100% accuracy and a chance to Flinch
@@ChampionElCid You get aqua tail by level up, and you're only 5 levels away from it. You don't get waterfall until ice path.
Basically if you need a TM go to goldenrod department store
