The B16B in the Civic Type R ek9 was 1.6L and 185hp, it made ~116hp/liter in the 90s and revved to a redline of 8,400rpm and rev limiter of 9,000. I personally enjoy the B series more than the K series, just off of how the engines look and sound, I also think they are more fun to drive. While the K20 is a fantastic engine it only made 221hp in its top trim (naturally aspirated) which is only ~111hp/L. I think this list is good, and does have all of the best engines (although I would have loved you to talk about the D16 dohc engines in the 1st gen integra as well(D16A1, ZC dohc), I firmly stand that B is better than K.
The F-series has a wide technology spread, from SOHC to DOHC from 81 to 97 mm stroke. The high performance derivate is ONLY the F20C. The F22C1 is a compromise for the USDM, which does not earn the high in the performance ;).
No one has any info on the v tec version of the c35 , it came in the 1991 FS-x concept . No one can find any info or even pictures of this engine. I’ve been driving my 3.5 swapped legend as a daily for 27 years and I would love it if Honda built this
The F20C engine has some really nice technology: friction reducing fibre reinforced metal sleeves, finger rollers, over-quadratic bore-stroke with an long rod setup for low friction at high revvs, very good cylinder head ports and a quite stiff crankshaft in a regride block. It has basically an SULEV emission capable combustion process design, which explains some of the OE-Alternation of load part designs and the ECU calibration. BUT for me it is not the best of these 5 engines, - as the FRM liners are not as reliable as the K-series steel inlay'd alu liners - it has no cam phasing technology - aftermarket of the K-series is really huge The K-series is for any FWD, RWD in front, mid or tail position the more performant and more reliable engine.
I’ve had most of the Honda engines throughout the 90’s to now. The J35 is very impressive, as is the B series DOHC VTEC motors, but K series is the best of the best!
@@slgpph K is the way or sure. They just respond so well to mods. It takes a good bit of internal work to get a b20vtec to 220whp but a k20 with a couple bolton's makes that
being this is titled "best honda engines of all time" I strongly have to dissagree the most important and legendary honda engine of all time is probably the Honda g* series small engines they are world reknowned for quality ,reliability, low noise and performance and im sure more of these have been built and sold in numbers way beyond your top 5 powering everything from mowers to generators and beyond.
A - Thanks for sharing your opinion. As it states in the description, this is OUR opinion. The G series engines were also great, but we wouldn't put it over the F20C. Also, we didn't base this ranking off of volume and we're solely focusing on automotive.
So true! Had my S2K for 15 years now 😍
D - Love a good S2K!
Honorable mention to the H22 and C30.
V - True!

Te s2000 made more hp per liter and rev higher to 9000
Great review! F20 F22 best Honda engine ever for sure
S - Thanks for the feedback! We think so too.

Great info ! Currently running a b20v setup and it’s still a blast even in 2024
J - Thanks for sharing your experience! We love a good B20 setup.

R - Interesting. We'll have to look into this

I think the k24 is the best honda engine and the B16a is the most influential
2 - Thanks for sharing. We could see that!
Without a B16a or B18c they would be no legendary K series
G - Good point!
I'm done working on d's b's f's h's r's and stuck on K series!!!!
J - Nice.
F20C❤
T - Couldn't agree more!
What about the KA7?
W - Certainly almost made the list!

@@8020Media fair enough , thank you
I’m glad you mentioned the g series very slept on
the H22 engine gets no love in this video lol
D - This is our opinion, but another great engine!
